I use ALSA but need to use a program that only supports OSS

Specifically, TeamSpeak2
It is very antiquated and as far as I can tell it will only support OSS with /dev/dsp. I read the OSS wiki and the first steps seem to make it clear that ALSA and OSS won't peacefully co-exist. Is there any simple way to get this working? I only need the sound output, not worried about mic input for now.

I put that in ~/.asoundrc and it didn't seem to work. Additionally, with that in my .asoundrc, alsamixer refuses to start and gives me a bunch of errors about invalid configuration.

Ok when you refer to "memory" that is the Random Access Memory which is temporary memory the processor (worker) uses to store stuff while it's using it. Power goes off whats in the memory is gone.
Your storage drive is where data is pernamnetly stored if the power is on/off.
So what you really mean to say is your storage drive is filled up and you need to make some room.
You have a TimeMachine drive, what this does is makes a image of your internal storage drive as a backup method, it also allows some "back in time" restoration of your previous deleted files depending how much space is on that drive. The more space, the less data you have, the more days you can go back in time to retrieve something.
Unfortunatly the TimeMachine drive is not a extra space storage drive, it automatically rotates what appears on your internal storage drive. So if you delete something from the internal drive, it eventually gets deleted from the TimeMachine drive.
So you need to make some more room on your internal drive, this is rather easy, all you need is ANOTHER external drive and connect it to the Mac. Give it a name like ExtraStorage#1 and thenyou will have to decide which of your User files you really don't need on the internal drive.
For instance the best choice would be to move some movies out of your Movies folder to another MoviesExtra folder on the ExtraStorage#1 drive.
Movies take a LOT of drive space and you can always copy them on or off, or watch them from the ExtraStorage#1 drive as well. But if your going to do this a lot, you should consider getting a Firewire 800/400, USB 3,2,1 combination drive as Firewire 800 is fastest and decently priced (Thunderbolt is very high priced and overkill at this time)
The other things like Documents are quite small, Pictures can take a lot of space if you have a lot, but if you need them on the internal drive then that's better. Music one tends to use a lot or manage playlists and such, but perhaps some music you may which to move off or "prune", I suggest always burning data DVD's of music especially for extra backups.
Once you have freed some room on the internal drive, this liitle neat program will show you what is taking the largest amount of space on your internal drive.

After a scan, right click on the big squares to "revel in Finder" to show you what's taking the largest amount of space, be warned it also opens up hidden system files and folders, which you won't be able to move. So concentrate on what's inthe Users folder.
Likely if you have a lot of Movies this is the biggest culprit on most standard internal hard drives. Also if you have something in iTunes that's auto-downloading something like PodCasts and not deleting the older ones and you forget. So go there and fix things and that can free up drive space.
If you bought a small SSD with your new Mac, then the price of that SSD has come back to haunt you with low storage space, you will have to think carefully what you can live without on the internal drive.
Once you have slimmed things down, TimeMachine will update to reflect your slimmer internal drive. What this means is there is only one copy of your data on the ExtraStorage#1 drive.
You need to maintain two copies of your data at all times on seperate hardware, so now you need ANOTHER storage drive (ExtraStorage#2) to copy everythinng of ExtraStorage#1, or else if you drop or have a mechanical problem with ES#1 all that data will be gone!

I am using Leopard but need Mountain Lion for the Mac App Store. How do I get Snow Leopard to be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion?

I am currently using Leopard but need Snow Leopard to be able to get Mountain Lion. I can see this is no longer available from Apple. How would I get it so I could then get Mountain Lion. I want the Logic 9 Mac App Store App as I don't want to have to buy the whole Logc 9 from Studio 8.

You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.

Labview isn't cheap, but it would certainly allow you to build a program (set of vi's - virtual instruments) that would do what you describe. Where would the timecode information come from? Your vi, or program, would: Start up, initialize the serial port, loop until a trigger happened, read the timecode (from where?), output that timecode out the serial port in a loop until you pressed the stop button. There is a free evaluation of Labview software available from NI - the base product itself runs about $995.

Had this problem for quite a while but found a work-a-round. I click anywhere in the text I want to delete and insert any character. I am then able to block and delete any text I want to. It's been working great.

Check out the info in the Analog Input section of the document linked below. (Ignore the part about Global Channels.) In Figure 5, notice that you can select multiple channels while holding <Ctrl> or <Shift>.

I have LabVIEW Express 7.0 Professional - SCXI-1000 Chassiss - along with SCXI-1112, and SCXI 1520/1314 - cable to the PCI-6052E is attached to the 1520 card.
MAX says it recognizes all the cards in the chassiss.

I tried to set up the system as DAQmx.
I had MAX auto-detect the set-up - and it recognized all the cards - but did not select the 1315 accessory on the 1540 card - I had to do that manually - but in the configuration section I would select the accessory and it would deselect itself. I had to get out of the set-up and then right click on the 1540 card and click on the "Accessories" tab and select the 1315 terminal block that way.
It didn't seem right that the system should behave that way, but I pressed onward.
I then tried to create a new DAQmx Task
When I create new DAQmx task and then click on Analog Input no "Position" Tab appears for me to select, all I get are:
Analog>>Voltage
Analog>>Temperature
Ana
log>>Strain
Analog>>Current
Analog>>Resistance
Analog>>Frequency
Analog>>Custom Voltage with Excitation
Do you think there might be something wrong with either my hardware or perhaps my configuration that is not allowing it to recognize the 1540/1315 in DAQmx?
I had included the system report of what programs I am using, etc. as attached file nireport.txt
After the DAQmx did not work I tried installing everything as Traditional DAQ and it did let me set-up the 1540 Card with Excitation Voltage and Frequency and gain - I then went in to the VI that I had built and tried to use the Express DAQ Assisant to read the channel that I am connected to on the 1315/1540 - when I try to use DAQ Assistant it gives me an error saying that "Device not available in NI-DAQmx. It is possible that the device is being use by traditional NI-DAQ"
Which I guess it is since both configurations are now set-up in MAX.
I would PREFER to use the DAQmx set-up, but I am confused as to WHY it won
't come up with
Analog input>>POSITION>>LVDT
When I try to create a new DAQmx task.

Ive got an apple tv, and a new hd projecter. I've now got a huge lovely picture on the wall, but I've zero sound.... The projector has no output for sound, and is conected by hdmi...which leaves me with one option. Using the optical out from apple tv, now i have no idea. Will this optical output work when hdmi is sending sound to projector ? What I need is the best option to use optical out.. I would have prefered a simple phono out, and then I can plug into a big active speaker im using in the room, I owne nothing with optical connections... So what do buy ? Ric

Ok, I will ask the question in another way... My apple tv has one hdmi, and it goes to my hd projecter.. But projecter has no speakers, and as a result I've no sound at the moment. I am looking for a clear direction to go in, to solve lack the of any sound.. My only option seems to be, using the optical out from the apple tv.. I don't have any equipment with this conecter. And I've never used optical before.. If i buy an, optical to twin phono converter and then I can plug into a large powered speaker I've got in my living room. And I will have big sound easily..?? Do I have any other reasonable options for optical enabled speakers, or AirPlay speakers or something simple I'm not aware of that will give me sound easily.. I don't want a messy 5:1 system, my house is very tidy, and I want to keep it that way. . Only having this optical out is frustrating, and I need to get my head round the options I have. Anyone understand from experience how to use the optical apple tv out. Also, not using anything but apple tv, no dvds, or tv , just apple tv and my ipad.. Is very quiet in my home right now though. I create a new image with cfimage, that already works without
any problems.
But instead of using the action="writetobrowser" I need to be
able to use the script inside a img tag:

BlendModes of parent overriding children, but need to use parenting. Help!

This is an age-old question, I know. But I am working on my first large-scale 3D flash project, which requires me (at least with the knowledge that I have) to do a lot of movieclip parenting in order to make it easy to move and rotate a large number of objects in 3D together, and around common anchor points. But the problem with this of course is that you can't have individual or different blendModes of movieclips with one or several parents. So what is my solution? I need independent blendModes, but I also need to use parents/children unless there is another way in Flash to animate a large number of movieclips around as if they were grouped together (obviously myMC.x = myOtherMC.x + 20; is not hard, my concern is having two movieclips rotate around a common point).
So my question is this. How can I have independent blendModes and be able to easily animate objects in 3D? I've searched and searched and found nothing beyond "Well don't use parents then if you need blendingModes." I have to not be the only person the planet with this problem. What's the solution? Either there is a way to force or pass-through blendModes of children, or there is a way to animate a number of movieclips together without parenting them to something (the easiest way).

Many thanks for your response! First, let me say that I've watched many of your instructional videos. They've been incredibly helpful and I'm grateful you've made them available!
Second, that pretty much is my set up! I've taken some screen shots... maybe there is another way or I am missing something obvious.
This is how I want it to look when the user clicks the main help icon:
They click on Advising or Events Management and get a list of all the documentation available:
The two topics above are in my Parent project: EXi Help Hub
which has Introduction.htm as its start page and default topic (similar to Index.htm)
I created the link to the child project by highlighting Basic Features Online Help, right-clicking, and selecting add a hyperlink, then using the file browser,
Browsed to the child project (CM) and selected its start page and default topic, which is also Introduction.htm (similar to your example above only we use just introduction as opposed to index, but if changing the name to index will remedy the issue, I'll do it in a heartbeat))
After compiling it didn't make the path relative. So I updated it to .../CM/Introduction.htm
Still didn't work...
What am I missing? Is there a better way to accomplish this? We'll need separate projects for each software component and our product is being designed for responsive design so the help needs to be as well. Part of the reason we went with the RH11 upgrade.
