I use MacBook Air. Firefox 4 is extremely slow with java apps, is it going to be fixed or should I give up this browser ?

After installinf current version of Firefox I can hardly use it with web pages that heavily use java, like chats on www.polchat.pl. Previous version worked similar to Safari or IE. Newest is extremely slow. Is it goimg to be fixed ?

If it originally shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier, click here, phone Apple, and order a replacement.
If it originally shipped with Mac OS X 10.7 or newer, restart it with the Option, Command, and R keys held down.

  • Did macbook air mid 2009 running slow with mountain lion?

did macbook air mid 2009 running slow with mountain lion?

Yours is the first computer I've heard about on these forums that is attempting to run Mavericks with only 2GB of RAM.
Indeed that is acceptable per the Mavericks requirements:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842
... but as you may know, Apple has not sold computers with as little as 2GB RAM for quite a while.
I suggest therefore you make sure you remove any applications that may be overtaxing your machine.  Examples are browsers other than Safari, Mac cleaning products (such as Mac Keeper), or any other non-Apple app that has some startup process running (such as Outlook).

  • Macbook Air internet connection painfully slow with ethernet.....

    Hi all
I am currently staying in a serviced apartment and have a Macbook Air that I have had to connect to the in-house LAN through the USB port (someone on here was kind enough to suggest this - I'm a bit of beginner at all this!). The connection is painfully slow (it claims to be connected but pages in safari don't load, iTunes won't load etc.), but the ancient IBM pc on Windows XP conencts through the same at a good speed.
I am also in a wifi environment but my Macbook Air doesn't connect to anything - it keeps timing out (even when it can recognise several unsecured networks). Can anyone advise?

Mine is slow too! The Charter tech was here for four hours today, redoing the entire building. Every other Mac and PC here are up to speed. The new Mac Pro Octo has never been up to speed. I really don't have time to put hours into what I suspect will be a dead end. Apple needs to look into this and help us out.

    Sure you can.
You don't need to activate the phone service to use the iPhone.

You don't need a serial number to set it up or use it.

The serial number is on the back, below the model name.

  • Firefox is extremely slow to shutdown

For me this a very annoying problem!
Firefox is '''extremely slow''' to shutdown, and I can't imagine what is it doing for so long after I have closed all frames and windows (note that I am '''not '''requesting to save the session).
I tried the solutions posted in older posts (https://support.mozilla.com/it/questions/809195) with no effect. The only add-ons that I have active are the Norton tools (I have Norton Internet Security 2011) and NoScript, plus sometimes Downloadhelper,
but I tried to disable everything and the problem remains, so it's something in the Firefox core.
After a short navigation the delay in closing Firefox is tolerable, but after having surfed the net for a while the delay may get huge, like 5' or even 10'! It's incredible!
The process monitor displays a firefox process taking a lot of memory (> 500 MB sometimes) and many plugin-container processes that also take a long time to close.
Before shutting down firefox requests even more memory, so that the allocated memory has a peak, then it finally drops.
Another strange thing is that if I kill the firefox process I get the memory quickly freed without any apparent damage, so what?
This problem has showed up with the latest versions of Firefox (4 and 5), I don't remember such a behavior one year ago or more.
I would appreciate very much some help and insight from someone of the developers, as well as feedback from other users, of course.

Are you using Clear Recent History to clear the <i>Cookies</i> when you close Firefox?
That can cause plugin-container processes to appear that Firefox opens to clear cookies from plugins.

  • Is it worthwhile to load windows 7 onto my MacBook Air? Will it slow down my computer?

Is it worthwhile to load windows 7 onto my MacBook Air? Will it slow down my computer? What might be the benefits of having windows and mavericks as two different operating systems side by side?

Check out this article first. It deals with BootCamp vs Parallels Desktop but there are two other products: VMWare Fusion and VirtualBox that offer the same basic features as Parallels. So your first decision is which you prefer. As I said, I chose virtualization: Parallels Desktop in particular.
You need a full retail version of Windows - If you live in the States try New Egg for the best price. This is what I bought. You'll need it whether you choose BootCamp or virtualization. Note that Win7 apparently isn't available via download from Microsoft any longer, only Win8 so you'll need access to an external optical drive or use remote dvd sharing with your Windows computer. I've not tried installing Windows using remote DVD sharing but I have installed other software that way so I'd expect it to work if you choose virtualization. If you choose BootCamp you'll need access to an external optical drive or create an ISO image of Windows on a large flash disk.

Firefox runs extremely slow on 64 bit PC it takes forever to open bookmarks and also hangs when I try to open anything within firefox I have used firefox since it started on 32 bit systems until I installed it on my 64 bit a week ago and have had this problem and others since, are we going to get a 64 bit firefox

Thanks for getting back to me Dave!
The file is about 91 MB in size, with just under 400 scanned pages.
I’ve also encountered the problem when I’ve tried to OCR one of these old books.  I’ve had to do it 50-100 pages at a time, closing and re-opening the file each time.
Based on my online search for a solution, I had concluded that the 2 GB limit for 32-bit programs was the most likely source of the problem.  But I’m wondering now if Acrobat could use 2 GB  in processing a 91 MB file.

  • Can I use macbook air for ios app development?

I would like to know if i can use macbook air for ios app development or macbook pro is only option?

Just to reinforce what shldr2thewheel says - be very sure what size memory you want if you get a Macbook Air. There is *no* way to change after purchase. My advice is to go for the 4GB option - especially if you want to do app development.
The internal storage (solid state drive) of the Air can be upgraded if required but it will probably be an expensive option. If you don't think the storage will be enough then maybe using a USB connected drive to hold non-essential files is an option.
As to deciding between the Air and Pro you are basically making a decision between portability (Air) and expandability/bigger screens (Pro). What is more important to you?

No computer can do a thing without using memory. 1.5 GB is very little. It's normal.
3 or so hours from a full charge may also be normal, for what you are doing. As batteries age, they don't last as long on a full charge as they did when they were new. All batteries eventually wear out, and are easily replaceable.
