I Use Open Sans - Web Safe Font And The Text Turns Into An Image. Why?

When I use Open Sans the text becomes an image and when I use Arial it is text. How do I save Open Sans as text?

Open Sans is available as an Edge Web font.
Which section of the Font menu did you select Open Sans from? If it was selected from the "System Fonts" section of the font menu then it will output as an image. To use the Web Font version, click "Add Web Fonts..." in the font menu then choose "Open Sans" from the available Edge Web Fonts.

  • Use of non web-safe fonts during in-browser editing

    Hello.
    I'll looking into setting up in-browser editing so allow others to update the site without me.
    However, the site uses non-web-safe fonts from my computer's font library. Can they update text that uses non-web-safe fonts that they might not own on their computers?
    Thanks,
    David

    Hi Brad.
    Thanks for your help!
    So, just to clarify...
    Even though my website uses a non-web-safe font throughout, it can still be edited in browser mode? (My concern is your mention of "editable region" as my text is saved as an image rather than as text due to the fact the font is a non-web-safe font - does this matter?)
    And lastly, you're saying even though the font won't be installed on the user's own font library, it can still recreate the edited text in the existing font? This seems surprising, but pretty amazing if true?
    Many thanks!!

    Hi Larry. I see. It is a file I have worked on previously, and the font is Myriad which I though came with the system. I just changed to Myriad Pro and the pink box disappeared. Thanks for the assistance, I know a new thing!

  • How can I use Automator to extract information from the body of an email sent from a web form.. and the import it into Highrise?

    I'm assuming that Automator is the way to go. I've never used it before but from research it seems to be the way to go. Also, I'm not good at programming at all.

    Hello
    You may try the following AppleScript script. It will ask you to choose a root folder where to start searching for *.map files and then create a CSV file named "out.csv" on desktop which you may import to Excel.
    set f to (choose folder with prompt "Choose the root folder to start searching")'s POSIX path
    if f ends with "/" then set f to f's text 1 thru -2
    do shell script "/usr/bin/perl -CSDA -w <<'EOF' - " & f's quoted form & " > ~/Desktop/out.csv
    use strict;
    use open IN => ':crlf';
    chdir $ARGV[0] or die qq($!);
    local $/ = qq(\\0);
    my @ff = map {chomp; $_} qx(find . -type f -iname '*.map' -print0);
    local $/ = qq(\\n);
    #     CSV spec
    #     - record separator is CRLF
    #     - field separator is comma
    #     - every field is quoted
    #     - text encoding is UTF-8
    local $\\ = qq(\\015\\012);    # CRLF
    local $, = qq(,);            # COMMA
    # print column header row
    my @dd = ('column 1', 'column 2', 'column 3', 'column 4', 'column 5', 'column 6');
    print map { s/\"/\"\"/og; qq(\").$_.qq(\"); } @dd;
    # print data row per each file
    while (@ff) {
        my $f = shift @ff;    # file path
        if ( ! open(IN, '<', $f) ) {
            warn qq(Failed to open $f: $!);
            next;
        $f =~ s%^.*/%%og;    # file name
        @dd = ('', $f, '', '', '', '');
        while (<IN>) {
            chomp;
            $dd[0] = \"$2/$1/$3\" if m%Link Time\\s+=\\s+([0-9]{2})/([0-9]{2})/([0-9]{4})%o;

  • Is there a list of web-safe fonts that Captivate 8 will accept or an option to include other web-safe fonts?

    The problem I've encountered is that text generated by a variable will only display as a web safe font and not always the same one across machines. Also different developers are seeing different font options. For instance on my machine,  Helvetica LT 75 Bold is listed, but no other Helvetica options. Another developer has Helvetica LT 77 Bold Condensed instead.
    My questions are:
    Is there a list of web-safe fonts that CP8 will use?
    Can this list be expanded somehow?
    Thank you,
    Kelly

    Web safe fonts really doesn't have the same meaning as something like web safe colors. While you will generally be OK with selecting a web safe font, it's only web safe in the concept of a font then defaulting to a font on the end users computer that they actually have installed. The default types are serif, sans-serif, and monotype, but then you have more distinct variations which you can see here, CSS Web Safe Fonts.
    You'll need to keep in mind that not every person has Arial or Times New Roman installed. Because of this you may have someone that has Helvetica or Times. Both fall under their same respective font families, but will look a little different depending on what the user has installed.

  • After a page loads the colors are right, then it suddenly turns light blue and the text fades to gray

    When I open google, the page immediate comes up right with a white background, and black text. Before the page finishes though, the background turns to light blue, and the text turn gray. The logos show up right framed in the white background but the rest of the page is light blue. It happens in other websites as well. There backgrounds are right, but where the text is located is like in forums the text is grayed out, and there background colors are faded too.

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • How do I export my document in SVG using web safe fonts?

    I currently have a document using text and when I try to export, I need this to be showing properly in IE. As per my reading, there is two ways I can do that:
    - Export SVG with fonts as outline: this I can't use as the file size is really too large.
    - Export SVG with fonts type set to SVG and Subsetting set to None (Use System Fonts). This option would only work if my fonts are web safe fonts like Arial (there are really only 5 true web safe fonts I believe).
    When I use the second option, the problem I get is that the font that is put in my resulting svg xml is not really the web safe font. This is what I get out of Illustrator:
    <text transform="matrix(1 0 0 1 46 50.0918)" font-family="'ArialMT'" font-size="12">Test SVG</text>
    <text transform="matrix(1 0 0 1 58.5 186.5)" font-family="'Arial-BoldMT'" font-size="12">TEST BOLD</text>
    There are two things that are weird:
    - Why does it use ArialMT when it should be Arial or Arial-BoldMT when it should be Arial with font-weight="bold"?
    - Why does it put the font inside single quotes inside the double quotes?
    If I manually replace the above by this, it works:
    <text transform="matrix(1 0 0 1 46 50.0918)" font-family="arial" font-size="12">Test SVG</text>
    <text transform="matrix(1 0 0 1 58.5 186.5)" font-family="arial" font-weight="bold" font-size="12">TEST BOLD</text>
    Can someone please help me?
    Thanks
    Seb

  • How are non iWeb sites able to use non "web-safe fonts?

    I know there is a list of "x" number of "web-safe fonts" that we should stick to. However, we all see incredible fonts all over the internet on non iWeb sites.
    What is it that makes the non-safe fonts work for them. Is there anything we can do to make those fun fonts work for us? I don't have specific examples (sorry). . .just looking for a general answer
    Thanks,
    roxpat

    The type of file compression to use for web pages is dictated by the number of colors required. Since graphics slow down a web site, your mission is to get the best overall appearance, with the smallest file sizes. The most popular forms of graphic compression are .gif and .jpg
    .gif files are limited to 256 colors which work very well for non-photo types of graphics (logo's, etc) and .gif also supports transparency, where you can actually make a graphic appear to be 'cut-out' against a different color background. Gradients do not work well with .gif files.
    .jpg files are more suitable for photo's due to the thousands or even millions of shades of colors in skin tones, vegetation, whatever. Jpg's do not support transparency or animation.
    Photoshop Elements would be a very good program to pick as an overall web and photo retouching program. The "Save For Web" feature is sweet. You can even continue to use iPhoto to manage your photo library and choose a program like Photoshop as an 'External Editor' to actually work on the pictures.
    Adobe Illustrator is probably not where you want to start. There is a learning curve to work with shapes (vectors) instead of actual dots on a page, and it's native format is not compatible with any web browsers. It's really not suitable for photo's at all. It is very powerful when working with commercial graphics that need to be sharp at all sizes, but probably more than you want to deal with.

  • Chinese Web Safe Fonts

    Hi,
    Is that correct that there is no way to use Chinese web safe fonts in Muse?
    I've been looking around and found only a few references but no solutions. It's quite surprising because it's not only a deal-breaker for me, needing Chinese fonts for a lot of my projects, but I believe also for an ever growing number of designers targeting Chinese speaking audience. And it's not like that there are no web safe Chinese fonts out there (to name just a few: Hiragino Sans GB (冬青黑体简体中文) Microsoft Yahei (微软雅黑) Simsun (宋体) Simhei (黑体)).

    Unfortunately you cannot use Chinese web safe fonts , you can try self-hosting if you  can find Chinese fonts that can be licensed for use on the web.
    Thanks,

  • Web safe fonts

    Hi. I was wondering if the Nueva Std font is a web safe font. I did some research on it and it is apparently from Adobe. I do have Adobe Photoshop Elements 8. I would like to use this font on my website if possible.
    Thanks!

    These are the Web Safe Fonts. Either use them or convert your text box to an image as Wyodor suggested. It will add "weight" to the page for loading, i.e. an additional image file, which might be an issue with Internet Explorer.

  • Need Chinese web safe fonts.

    I can't find Chinese web safe fonts in Adobe Muse even I switched to Chinese version Muse.
    Hope you can help this because we do not prefer to use the fonts located in my computer as it would exports as image.
    Thank you so much for any replies.
    And this is pretty urgent, thank you thank you !!!!

    Hi,
    Sorry, there are no "Chinese fonts" deisgnated as "web-safe" in Muse.
    Do you have some examples of Chinese fonts that are broadly available (on Chinese OS), and can be considered "web-safe"?
    Thanks,
    Abhishek

  • Web safe fonts - Baby Theme site 1.0

    Hello
    I'm using the Baby Theme template from 1.0, does anyone know why my content font is being displayed in IE in the Times New Roman font when I have specifically changed the content font to Copper Black in iWeb.
    Can I change the buttons (for blog, albums, movies) font which is defaulted to Hoefler to match the font I'm using for the content.
    Thanks

    why would Apple create template with non web safe font if my users want to view this using IE
    Probably to make things a bit nicer for Mac users, since they will have all these fonts on their machine and it will look the same for them as it does to the author. Apple doesn't always restrict its templates, either regarding fonts or other features, to what works best for Windows users.
    The basic principle is that the viewer must have the font installed on his machine in order to have it display correctly, unless you convert your text into an image (normally done by adding an invisible degree of shadow to your font).

  • Why is that some of the web safe fonts from typekit simply will not work in Muse?

    I don't get it. I am frustrated as it seems there are a NUMBER of fonts that I just grabbed from typekit that just don't work. Running latest OS on a Mac btw.
    I also don't understand why a font like Myriad Pro (which I know is a web safe font) is not included in typekit? If you check out the typekit website, they have myriad pro. However, it's not available in Muse, yet it IS available in AI. Very weird!
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thank you.

    I believe that it is only select Typekit fonts that have been allocated to be used in Muse - not all of them. If you browse the available Typekit fonts THOUGH Muse, you can see what's available to use.
    Sorry, but you might be misinformed; Myriad Pro is not a web safe font, the fact that it's in AI, ID etc is because it's common and usually bundled with a lot of Adobe software, but not " web safe". Just a common face.
