I am using PDFfactory to secure the PDF documents in my company. Despite this, users can open the document in Firefox and print, and save it locally. This is unacceptable because of the ISO standards process in my company. Please help ASAP.

I think the first course of action would be to try securing with a different authoring program (if you have access to one) and seeing if you have the same problem.
As for the downloading and printing side of it, even with a protected PDF, anyone with the intent and a little knowledge will be able to download it. Or screenshot each page in their viewer.
One way to prevent them getting a usable print is to create a solid annotation field across each page of the document. It will be invisible whilst just being viewed but when printed the annotation field will cover everything, thereby producing a blank page.
Is it fair to ask whether a pdf is the best way of presenting information that you do not want them to download and subsequently print, seeing as that is exactly the reason PDF's exist?

No web site expert here but I would suggest changing the .m4v to .mp4 and ask one of those friends if they still have problems.  .m4v is something I always associate with iTunes and don't really see it used elsewhere.

Sites w/ .pdf or .ashx documents as the full page or as an insert in the page don't load the .pdf or .ashx documents - I get an Problem Report window that says "Firefox Plugin Process quit unexpectedly" and sends the error to Apple so I have had to revert to Firefox 3 getting rid of 4. OK, I think I have this solved. After reading my post over, I decided to rethink the problem. First thing I did was download Chrome and I tried using that and IE again and surprise! I was having the same problem on those browsers as well. So now we know it wasn't Firefox. I then figured maybe a slow computer meant a virus, so I ran scans. I've had both Avast and IOBit for months now and I've never had a problem with either of them before. Then I downloaded Malwarebytes and ran a third scan. They all picked some stuff up, but nothing serious. Then I tried disabling all the antivirus stuff and that didn't solve anything. But then I decided to keep Malwarebytes and I uninstalled IOBit Security and whammo - problem solved.
I have no idea why out of the blue IOBit would be causing a problem like this so if someone knows, please let me in on the secret. Additionally, IE was working fairly well last night but not this morning. I also don't know why removing IOBit would take care of the nsAppShell issue, because supposedly, that's related to Firefox plug ins. And one more thing...when Comcast hooked my neighbor up to cable, they did it by putting a splitter on my line. They were messing about with the lines yesterday before I got on my computer last night trying to decide how to rerun them and today they did that, taking the splitter off my line and giving my neighbor his own line. That was finished about 30 minutes before I uninstalled IOBit. So....who knows?
But I ain't about to look a gift horse in the mouth. I have my Firefox back and I am so sorry for bad mouthing you last night - I love you, Firefox!

  • Even though I have LCD font smoothing disabled, Mountain Lion still uses it in PDF views, Safari's location bar, Mail's message view, and the dialogs for mounting encrypted disk images.

Even though I have LCD font smoothing disabled, Mountain Lion still uses it in PDF views, Safari’s location bar, Mail’s message view, and the dialogs for mounting encrypted disk images. Is there any solution to this problem? Also diabled the Smoothing in the SystemPrefs and also via Terminal. Font smoothing is still there. Very annoying, especially in PDF attachments in Apple Mail.

Try feeding Safari a user-defined CSS file with font-smoothing tweaks (including none). The filename and its filesystem location are arbitrary. Use your favorite coding editor.
Safari > Preferences > Advanced > Style Sheet:
Here is an example with all elements uncommented. Pick the one that works best for your Safari viewing and comment out the others:
Preview. Try Preview > Preferences > PDF > Smooth text and line art (uncheck)

  • Bettering your English, useful sites with tips and tricks

Since a lot of us, including me, are non-native English speakers we do make mistakes. Sometimes they lead to funny threads and/or amusing discussions like this one: Re: how to post a questions to forum
In this particular one I linked to the site:
    [DailyWritingTips|http://www.dailywritingtips.com/category/misused-words/]
Another of my 'favorite' typo's has to do with the word definitely. To get that right surf to:
    [d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y|http://www.d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y.com/]
Here's my question to you all:
Please contribute by adding sites to this thread so we all learn if we should use [Then or Than?|http://www.dailywritingtips.com/then-or-than/] and understand more about common mistakes made here on the forums and in our other (business) communications. Of course you may accompany them by examples of texts horribly gone wrong by simple typo's but let's not compete with the funny threads thread.
    Thanks in advance!

I think native speakers get that one wrong just as frequently as non-native speakers, if not more often. I hate seeing "definately".
But it's funny when people type "definatly" and MS Office automatically replaces this with "defiantly" ^^. I often get e-mails from colleagues saying things like "We should defiantly do this" ... yes, we should definitely put all our defiance into this .

Actually this particular mistake is made almost exclusively by native speakers (or quasi-native speakers, like people from Hong Kong or India who start learning English at 3 or so). I wondered for a long time how they could possibly confuse "have" and "of", until someone explained that they are not replacing "would have", "could have" etc. with "would of", "could of", but "would've", "could've". Additionally native speakers pronounce "of" approximately as "ev" (the o in "of" is reduced to a schwa if the "of" is not in a position where it is emphasized) ... which is exactly the same or very similar to the way the 've part of "would've", "could've" is pronounced. So for a native speaker this is almost as innocent a mistake as writing "you're" for "your" or "there" for "their".
I hate this error very much. For non-native speakers something like "would of" is extremely hard to parse, because when reading this and pronouncing the words in our heads we do not reduce the "of" to "ev", we read it kind of like "off", and cannot associate this with 've or have.

There is nothing wrong with "a lot" (when properly separated by a space). This is perfectly correct English.

    > If a group or collection is countable then use "fewer" rather than "less".
This statement is not correct. One can use "less" for both countable and uncountable nouns. The usage with uncountable nouns even predates the one with countable nouns (9th vs. 14th century). But there are guides that recommend against using "less" with countable nouns and some even claim this to be incorrect.
What I hate very much is when people use "less" when they should use "little". Only non-native speakers do this, of course. But quite often and even in official documents . I find this really cringeworthy. "There is too less time to do this or that" for example. The opposite of much is little, not less! Little cannot only mean small.
A funny mistake, also in an official document: "The information in this document is objective to change." instead of "... subject to change". I think the author must be too object-oriented .

  • How do I use LSMW with a bespoke dataload program?

Hello data migration gurus, I need your help.
I need to migrate data from a legacy system into a suite of bespoke functionality we've written within SAP CRM. We are planning to write a program to perform the load. However we would like such a program to be reusable, so it makes sense to keep the data load separate from the data formatting, which may vary between customers.
The obvious answer is to use LSMW for the data formatting, calling our load program as the last step. However in LSMW you can only choose from a list of standard dataload programs. Does anyone know how to use LSMW with a bespoke program? It looks like transaction SXDA might be involved, but it isn't too clear. If anyone has done this kind of thing elsewhere, advice would be much appreciated!
Obviously as an alternative we could just write a separate program to format the data - it would just be a lot better if we could use LSMW.

    No longer required.

  • How do I change the default PDF viewer on my iPad so I can easily see annotations?

I keeping missing annotations on PDF because the built-in iPad Mail viewer does not show annotations.  To limit the keystrokes, instead of  using "open with" on each PDF email attachment to view in a third part app, I'd like to just change the mail default viewer. Is that possible with the current iPad operating systems?

No it is not possible to change the default pdf viewer in mail.

Those links have more info on Chrom plugins and how to enable or disable them.
    From the first link:
By default, Chrome uses a built in viewer to open PDFs. If you've disabled the built-in PDF viewer, Chrome will use Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader to display PDFs. Follow the suggestions at the first link if you're having trouble viewing PDFs within Chrome, using Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
First check if the issue is specific to Chrome. Try opening PDFs in another browser on your computer, such as Firefox. If you experience similar problems viewing PDFs in another browser, the issue is likely not related to Chrome.
