I use uTorrent but it will not shut down when I quit

Any torrent program will and can destroy your computer.
You are not the first and will not be the last to learn this.
UnInstall and if your machine is capable Repair Permissions and shut your computer clear off, this allows it to reset and then restart your computer.  Be wary of anything you get from a torrent. Movie, Music, game, EVERYTHING.

  • After using PSCS5, my Mac will not shut down normally.

Whenever I open and use PS, then close it down, my Mac will not restart or shut down; it gets as far as that ‘wheel of death’ which keeps on turning, turning and turning, I presume forever.  Force quitting PS permits closing down normally.  I have uninstalled PS, reinstalled it to no avail.  Thinking that my harddrive might be the problem, I ran it through TechTool Pro and that did not help.  So I must have some file responsible for it.  No other programs, Adobe or otherwise, cause this.  Any ideas?
    Mac OS 10.6.8      PS  v.12.1

Have you reset your preferences?  A reinstall will not affect this file.
Start PS and immediately hold down Cmd + Option + Shift keys.  You should get a reset window.

  • MB Pro 13" 10.6.8 Will not shut down after force quit everythin

    MB Pro 8,1 OS 10.6.8
Computer froze while Sophos Anti-Virus was updating. I force-quit everything. Finder would not restart. Used the Shut Down command from the apple menu, everything went well until I reached the background-picture-only stage of shutdown. It froze there and the power button is inop. Shows options to shut down or restart, but will do neither.
    IDEAS?

Sometimes after an update, you may have to wait awhile for it to shut down. The other day I was about to force mine to quit after waiting around 2-3 minutes. Finally it shutdown. After rebooting, it's working fine now.
You maybe just didn't give it enough time to finish what it was doing before shutdown.

  • AcroRd32.exe will not shut down when shutting down computer.

Windows 7.   Adobe Reader XI Ver. 11.0.06
Get message that AcroRd32.exe is preventing computer from shutting down.
I think this started when the .06 upgrade was installed, but not sure.

    Thanks for the reply Pat,
Looking at the processes, when I open Acrobat reader it opens 2 ArcoRd32.exe *32.   I use Opera Browser and I noticed that it opens 2 ArcoRd32.exe *32 also.   If I close the Acrobat Reader, 2 of the ArcoRd32's drop but 2 stay open, the ones opened with the Opera Browser continue to run.
I did a search on the web and found out that this is an add-on to the browser (Internet Explorer, Opera, Firefox and Safari) and it allows you to open PDF files directly in the browser.   It also stated that there can be a problem of ArcoRd32 not closing and it instructs you to go to the Task Manager and end the process, just as you had stated.
At least I know what the problem is now and I can deal with it.
Thanks again for you assistance with this situation.   I have been VERY SATISFIED with your assistance.   You have been very professional and I really appreciate it.

  • Foxfire will not "shut down" when I close it. When I try to reopen it, it gives an error: Foxfire is currently running.

When I close Firefox, the application stops as usual. However, if within a couple of minutes (longer), I try to restart the application, it will not open. An error message appears stating the operation is open and must be closed before it can reopen. I must got into Task Master (Windows Vista-Home Premium) and end the process. The Application page is empty.

    Hello vina8sy,
After reviewing your post, it sounds like the iPhone will turn off after a sync but the iPad will not. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • IMac will not shut down or restart using the apple menu

I have an iMac running 10.7.3 that will not shut down or restart using the apple menu.  The only way to get this machine to shut down is to hold down the on/off button on the back of the computer.  This has been a problem for quite some time and may have started with Lion, but I’m not sure.  Any help is appreciated.

    Hi...
Before you shut down, make sure you "quit" all open applications. Applications are running if you see the small blue reflection under the app's name in your Dock.
If necessary, you can force quit apps... several ways to do this.  One, from your Apple menu > Force Quit or using the Activity Monitor located in /Applications/Utilities.
If it's not a question of open applications, try Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

  • Help! PowerBook G4 will not shut down using normal methods!

Recently, my PowerBook G4 Aluminum (1.5/1.67 GHz) will not shut down. It has recently started doing this. When I choose any of the shut down, restart, log out items in the  (apple) menu, it will not bring up a dialog. Same with pushing power button. I have to do sudo reboot in the Terminal to make it shut off, or otherwise I can just hold the power button. Tried resetting PRAM. Recently downloaded a few apps. Can anyone help?

It's been a long time since I've revisited this...
Reinstalled OS due to main account getting corrupted. Could not log in.
That did not resolve the corrupted account, so I booted up with command-S and issued a few commands to reset and force the Setup Assistant to run. That worked, allowed me to login and start fresh.
That did not solve the not shutting down problem.
I am able to "lock" the system (using MacLoc) and shut down from the login window.
Or if I have Fast User Switching enabled I can choose "Login Window..." from the menu, and shut down from there.
A long time ago, I edited a few .nib files inside /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow/Contents/Resources.
A reinstall replaced those files with the originals.
Still cannot shut down by pressing power button and clicking Shut Down, or choosing log out, shut down, or restart from the apple menu.
Important clue: If I press Shift-Command-Q (the log out hotkey) the window I am working with dims as if another window popped up, but no other window popped up.

  • Computer can restart but will not shut down

    Hello All,
I have an iMac 17-inch Late 2006 model which is part of a computer lab which will not shut down completely. When I select shut down from the menu the computer will get to the blue screen and a spinning gear icon will appear. After a little while it will stop moving and just sits there. I have left the computer in this state over night and it does not finish shutting off. Only by holding the power button does it ever finish shutting down. It will however sleep and restart without any problems. The restart takes a little while but it does work. All of the other computers in the lab do not demonstrate this issue.
Things I have done in an attempt to fix this problem:
    1. Reimaged computer from known good computer after zeroing the disk
    2. Repaired disk
    3. Repaired Permissions
    4. Deleted login preferences from all user folders as well as library folder
    5. Reset SMC and PRAM
As I had noted earlier this machine is part of a lab in which none of the other computers which were imaged from the same base image are showing this issue. If you have any ideas at all I would love to hear them.
Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions that you may have.

I was looking in the console logs earlier and they are a real pain to parse but here is a section. I told the computer to shutdown at 13:13 for sake of convenience with locating the associated entries. Sadly comparing the notes in its log against a computer sitting besides it has yielded basically identical notation. I posted what I believe to be the shutdown sequence. If you see something that I have missed let me know.

  • Iphone 4s will not shut down.  Constant reboot unless powered.  I have done a full restore (losing half my apps) that helped for a while but now back to the same problem

My iphone 4s will not shut down?  Please help??

Basic troubleshooting steps outlined in the user guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new device.  Try each of these steps until your problem is solved. If these steps fail to solve your issue, then you'll need to bring your phone into Apple (or an authorized service provider in your area) for evaluation.
