I've 5 captivate problems.

hi everyone,
i'm ivano and i'm here to ask you about my personal 5
captivate problems.
my english is bad..so i hope you understand what i write (but
there's anyone who speak italian i write in my language..i hope
this!!)
1. TEXT IN THE BUTTONS : when i build my pages i see the text
in the button in the right position, but when i publish i see them
in bad position..a bit moved from the original position. how can i
do?
2. BUTTONS CLICKED : when i clink on a button in my captivate
project and after a navigation i return in the page where is the
button, it is in the state DOWN as pushed. what i have to do?
3. LOOP : can i use an mp3 file (6 seconds) for my work?
there are specifically options to learn? please show me the right
way.
4. SWF LINKING : i've done a project with captivate files
(quiz, elearning, pages) and simply flash pages. i've seen that if
i link from a movie to another, it appears in my internet browser.
if i publish (in standalone..) all the files and link one another
they'll be opened in the same window..but so i have many EXE files
in my project. how can i have less files to linking? there is a
macromedia product which manages more files in the same work and
link one-another? thanks.
5. CAPTIVATE SAMPLE : i have to do e-learning slides as in
the captivate sample. which is the correct option? assesstement,
training or demonstration? and what's the differences? it's very
important for me..thanks a lot.
i hope my english was clear..
and i hope anyone answer me soon..it's very important for me.
thank you all for your patience and disponibility,
ivano

Hi Ivano,
I'll try to answer a few of your questions to the best of my
ability.
1. Text Positioning in Captions:
You can do simple formatting for text in the captions,
basically center, right, and left justify. If you change the
physical dimensions of the project file these captions will also be
changed, often they need re-positioning. If you must change the
dimensions of a project, do it early on or accept having to go back
in and re-work the captions.
Also, the distance the text is from a caption "side" can be
changed by going into the "Gallery/Captions" directory in the
"Program" directory and modifying the .fcm files with a text
editor.
2. Buttons Clicked:
I'm not certain as to what you are asking. You can change
some of the button characteristice in the timeline, provided you
are not working on a question slide (those are not easily changed).
3: MP3 Loop:
6 seconds of a loop would mean each slide has a duration of 6
seconds and have no stops. You could have a stop corresponding to
the end of a audio stream. In other worde your MP3 plays for 6
seconds and stops and waits for a user response. I'm not aware of a
way to have the loop keep playing while the slide is waiting for a
user response.
4. SWF Linking:
Again, I am not sure what you are asking. However, the swf
linking with web files is much less a problem than trying to link
exe files. Have you tried publishing web filed to a CD rather than
using EXE files?
5. Assessment, Training, or Demonstration for E-Learning:
Any of these three have their purpose in e-learning. With
each of the 3 types of scenarios you might want to have certain
things automatically added to your slides. (All of these
automatically added items are editable. It is meant as a time
saving feature for the author.) For example in a demonstration or
training, you might want to have a mouse cursor automatically
moving around, on an assessment you would not. Each one of these 3
types of e-learning scenarios can be changed by clicking the "Edit
Settings" button. It all depends on exactly what you want the end
user to see and experience. For this my advice would be to write a
"script" to follow and list the type of interactions you want to
use. Then click the Edit Settings button and see which options are
automatic, which ones aren't, then add what you need. Try a few
different combinations and see what they produce.

  • SABA CAPTIVATE PROBLEM

Hello, We have a situation here :( ; we created an E-learning
course with Macromedia Captivate 1.01 and we published it based on
    SCORM 1.2.
To load the course into SABA, we needed to modify the
    manifest.xml, deleting the tags:
    <adlcp:maxtimeallowed></adlcp:maxtimeallowed>
    <adlcp:datafromlms></adlcp:datafromlms>
    We took the following reference:
Saba LMS: Requires that the XML elements
    <maxtimeallowed>, <datafromlms>, and
<masterscore> that are left empty in the manifest of the
default course configuration from Captivate either be filled or
removed in order to load the course.
    published on
    http://192.150.14.120/devnet/captivate/articles/output_scorm_print.html
Now our problem is that we are getting
lesson_status=incomplete on the View Content Communication Log but
a “Failed” text under the Completion Status column in
the Table of Contents page when we close our course without ending
    the complete course’s quiz.
Could you please tell us why if the log marks
    lesson_status=incomplete, the web pages displays
    “Failed”?.

This is what is currently set in my course.
I will try cheking the Never Send Resume Data box and republish now. However, I have to say, that I still find Saba's decision to launch the course at a screen five screens before the endof the course odd. The first time through, neither the learner or I stopped in the middle of the test. I will try your suggestion immediately and let you know.

  • SWF import in Captivate / problem synchronizing

    Hi All,
I tried to import a SWF movie into a newly created captivate
movie. In FLASH I have a framerate of 8 ps, which means my movie
should last about 25 seconds. Now, when I import it into Captivate
the movie only lasts 6.9 seconds and my animation goes nuts. (
Tweens are not very nice when they flash by in 0.2 seconds :-) ).
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong or how I can prevent
Captivate from shortcutting my swf-movie ?

    Hi sdanckaarts
Captivate normally operates at 30 frames per second. So it's
no surprise that you are seeing what you are. You are taking
something designed for 8 frames per second and running it at 30.
Hence looking a bit like it's had about four shots of espresso!
You have a few choices. Increase the Flash frame rate to 30
frames per second, re-publish and re-insert in Captivate. Or reduce
Captivate to 8 frames per second. Or maybe a little on each end.
To change Captivate's frame rate, click Edit >
Preferences... > Project node. (Captivate 3) or Project >
Preferences... > Project tab (Captivate 2).
Cheers and best of luck in getting the result you want...

  • Issues with hangman activity in captivate 7

    Hi,
I am using the hangman activity in some of my projects. There are two issues being faced:
When I test the published file in scormcloud, it works fine. The screen automatically progresses to the next slide once the learner completes the activity (I am using IE or firefox browser). However, when my client tests it, they get stuck after this activity, because the slide doesn't progress (they're testing on Chrome browser). Is this a browser issue?
Secondly, for the learner to move from one question to another after completing it, the button label reads 'Retry', which is not correct because you want them to continue and not retry a word. Is there a way to customize the button labels for these new interactions?
Your advise would be highly appreciated!
    Divya

Divya, I have had similar problems with the puzzle widget. In the end we cannot make learner tools that only work on certain browsers. Users use different browsers. And that is that.
Adobe did not round off these widget tools properly. I actually wonder how they passed any form of QA.
I have not specifically used the hangman widget yet, However, when a learner does not complete the puzzle widget in time, it just hangs (freezes) right there! So I added a "continue" button that actually runs the slide again (so widget runs again) and allows the learner to try again. In the same way you could just add a continue button when and where your require it. You might have to use some advanced action to co-ordinate the lot.
If you have not worked with advanced actions before, now is the time to learn. Drink a Red Bull (It is not really bad for you) and watch the series of videos that explain advanced actions on YouTube. You will need the Red Bull to maintain focus . Just make enough time available and be patient. You will get it right.  It will help you overcome many of the Captivate problems.

  • When I copy and paste text into Captivate 8, special characters disappear

I'm trying to copy and paste text from a PDF into Captivate 8. When I paste, all the accent marks disappear. (for example: ê shows up as e). I've tried pasting into other applications, and the special characters paste correctly, so it's a Captivate problem. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a quick fix?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Disappearing text in Captivate 7

Help!  I am using Captivate 7 and have recorded a module in which I am using a mix of standard Text Captions and Smart Shapes.  All is fine until I save and close the file, then re-open it.  On reopening, all the text in all the Text Captions and Smart Shapes disappears, and I have to click on each individual object, on each slide, for it to then magically re-appear!  Has anyone encountered this issue and found a solution?  Thanks! J

Sounds like a corruption. Can you (trying to list up in sequence):
    restart Captivate, problem still persists?
restart your system, clear cache in Captivate before opening project, problem still persists?
close Captivate and clean preferences; there is a file to run in the subfolder Utils under the Captivate installation folder.
When cleaning preferences you'll lose all customisation. Here is a post that can help you retrieve some custom things: Captivate 8.0.1 Install? Keep your Customisation! - Captivate blog
It doesn't matter if this was written for CP8, the location of the folders was the same in 7.

  • Need Help Fast! Page is dispalying twice in quiz

I have created a quiz using tips from another post in this
forum. I insterted a regular slide with a continue button before
the quiz questions. I insterted another regular slide at the end of
the questions with a re-take button that points to that first
slide. This part is working great. When I take the published quiz,
I click the continue button, and instead of continuing, the slide
redisplays. I click the button again, and it moves forward like
    it's supposed to. Any advice?
I'm supposed to have these posted in our LMS today for
testing, so I need help fast!!! Thanks!!

What you're seeing is likely the result of a MS patch for IE
    in response
    to the Eolas patent suit.
MS recently updated IE so any content shown in a page using
    the Embed,
Object, or Script tags will need to be 'activated' before
    they can be
    clicked (or otherwise 'interacted with').
Your home computer probably hasn't had the latest security
    rollup
installed, is why you're not seeing the issue on that
    machine.
There is a work around, many site mention it. This may be a
    good place
    to start:

  • Scrolling Marquee created in Flash 5.5 Pro not working in CP5.5

    Hi all.
I've created a scrolling marquee .swf within Flash 5.5 Pro which has the dimensions of 30x205.
This works perfectly both testing the scene in Flash as well as when you view the .swf on it's own.
However, when I import the .swf into Captivate 5.5 and run the project, the scrolling text starts perfectly but then doesn't stop, i.e. it is not bounded by the original size of the Flash project so I end up with the message sscrolling right across the screen till all the text is visible, when it disappears.
I'm not sure if this is a Flash problem where I have missed something or done something wrong, or a Captivate problem.
I'm really VERY new to Flash so I'm guessing it is something I haven't done.
I understand that you can force Flash projects to be bounded to an area of the screen by using AS3, but I have no coding experience and am stuck.
    Can anyone help?
I'm happy to share the relevant files if anyone wants to see what I've done.
    Thanks all.
P.S. I've also posted this in the Flash forum in case it is that.

Col, it's just one of the quirks in the way that Flash works.  Even though youv'e set your Flash document size to be only 30 pixels by 205 pixels, if you have the text starting off stage and scrolling onto the stage, then the REAL stage area (including the scrap area around the stage) MUST be larger than 30x205 right?
So what happens is that unless you mask the stage area to hide the bits you don't want to see, if you place that SWF into another SWF that has a larger stage area, then the scrolling text will be visible even before it gets to what you thought to be the visible stage area.
So you need to get your head around the concept of Masking in Flash to pull off what you want to do here.  With masking, you're actually looking through a window the same size as the mask to see the scrolling text.  Then even when you bring it into a larger SWF like the Captivate movie, all you're going to see is the area covered by the mask.
I tried to get to your FLA file but couldn't find it in Acrobat.com for some reason.  Message said the file could not be found.

  • SWF doesn't display once imported to LMS

We're in the process of setting up TrainingPartner LMS, and
I'm trying to get a SCORM quiz working. I can publish everything
and upload to our (separate) content server, and if I visit that
URL, the quiz works fine. However, if I add that quiz URL to the
LMS, the html page loads, but the flash quiz doesn't display. In
addition, if I close that window, the quiz is marked as complete,
with a score of 100%. Both are undesirable behaviors :)
I'm trying to determine if this is a Captivate problem, or an
LMS problem - I'm leaning towards it being Captivate, since the
html page loads, just not the .swf. Any suggestions?

Hi timtate and welcome to the forums!
Actually, if the quiz works fine directly from the content
server, then it's likely an LMS issue.
Have you tried loading other HTML files with embedded Flash
movies from your content server into the LMS or is this the first
    time it's been done?
    I wonder if it's not a cross-domain security issue that's
preventing the Flash Player from loading the movie. If so, you'll
probably want to ask Google how to create a crossdomain.xml file.
This file goes on your LMS server root and determines which other
servers are "safe" to load content from.
That said, maybe the crossdomain.xml file goes on the root of
your content server. I forget which goes where, but crossdomain.xml
is definitely the right name at least.

  • Open PDF at 80%?

Hi, I originally posted this in the Captivate forum but they have suggested that I try here:
I have created a lesson that I output in PDF.  When the lesson is first opened, it's always at 100%, but due to the monitor size, this causes additional scrolling.  When I shrink the PDF to 80%, it is perfect, so ideally i would like to set it so that the document opens at 80%.  Not sure if this is an Acrobat or Captivate problem, but any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    John

I checked there but couldn't see anything, but I have just realised that I only have the reader, so that is probably why.  My company has recently installed the Adobe elearning suite onto my computer & I had assumed that the full version of acrobat would be included, but obviously not.
Anyway, thanks for the quick response.

  • Assessment Results

We have somewhat successfully received scores on assessments.
However, Outlook doesn't always list every answer to each question.
For example, if we have 60 questions in an assessment, sometimes we
receive all 60 answers by a user and most of the time we receive
    less than that, i.e. 57, 58, 53, 30 (!). Also, sometimes the
    results are mixed up, i.e. question 10 may be a M/C on 1 and a T/F
on another response (this could be due to the fact that we allow
the user to come back to a question and answer later). Regarding
the first problem, there is no way to accurately determine which
questions were answered correctly or incorrectly. Is this an
Outlook problem or a Captivate problem?

Connect will track the simulation interactions in Captivate (assuming you have told them to report as part of the quiz).
However, if you embed it into a Presenter Presentation, you will not have the ability to track the interactions. The better workflow there is to have the Captivate project external to the Presenter project and give access to it via hyperlink.

  • Dual Screen Display

Is it possible to get automatically displayed a learning
video (made with Adobe Captivate) on the the extended screen every
time you start the video file in a dual screen environment?
Actually the video has to be dragged manually from the primary
screen to the extended (secondary) screen. Thanks in advance for a
    good solution of this problem.

This is not really a Captivate problem. But the answer is,
the application will start in the Windows environment in which it
was last successfully shut down, provided that environment still
    exists.
I suppose it might be possible to write a batch file that
somehow specifies the check for a dual setup and the startup
ordered to take place at a secific point within that setup ... then
start the application from the batch file. But I really wouldn't
have a clue how to do that. You might have better success asking
that question of a Microsoft Windows guru ... (?)
    ~regards
    Larry
P.S. Welcome to the user group for Captivate ... I am glad
you posted the question, and though I don't see a solution within
Captivate, perhaps someone else has a better solution (?).

  • Centered in IE9 Browser?

    Hello,
I am trying to get my Captivate output to be centered (located toward the top of the browser and centered horizontally) in the IE browser. When I click Yes to view the output after publishing, the project appears as intended, but when I post the files on SharePoint and then view them, the project appears flush left. Is this something in my project settings? Project preferences? Publish settings? Browser settings?
    Thanks so much.

I have the same problem with my course and I am just starting to work on this problem.  I am using Captivate 7 and am when using a web object widget.  The web page that I am using uses a video player which is normally centered on the web page.  But when I play the course in a web browser, the video player always is shoved tight to the left side of the browser, no matter how large I make the browser.  This happens no matter which browser I use, including IE-10.  This also happens when we store the course and present it from our LMS (which does NOT use Sharepoint).
I believe that this is a Captivate problem.

  • Looking for another TEDS LMS user

    Hello!
Sorry for three TEDS posts in as many weeks, but we currently have about $8,000 in software sitting around idle while we try to figure this thing out.  I was hoping that there is another TEDS user out there that is currently working with Captivate 3 or 4 that could send me a working SCORM or AICC course.  It doesn't have to be flashy, can be ten 1+1=2 T/F questions.  The test should pass if the user is over 80% and fail if they're below it.
I've tried just about everything, posted various questions for this wonderful forum, but I'm still not able to get a graded course to Pass/Fail.  It either passes regardless of the score (If set to Complete/Incomplete), or it fails regardless of the score (set to Pass/Fail).
If you're leary about sending a file, or just don't want to take the time, I'd also be delighted if you could provide a list of commonly used settings (although at this point, I'm pretty convinced I have tried every configuration in both Captivate 3 and 4!).  While I've not kept a spread sheet, I've conducted well over 40 different configuration attempts at this point.
My hope is someone out there could send me a working Captivate File that works with TEDS, so I can at least narrow it down to a configuration in Captivate problem or a configuration in TEDS problem.
    Thanks for your time,
