I've accidently duplicated a ton of songs in my itunes

How do I easily consolidate all the duplicates back to their original forms? I really don't want to spend an hour or more deleting all the extras. PLEASE help me.
The worst part is, some of my library wasn't duplicated, so i'd really have to look through every song...

Hey that's easy! You can sort by the date/time they were created and then mass delete them...
Apple+J will open "view options"
Select "Date Added" <- this will add a column in the player that shows when the files were created
Then you just sort by the date they were created (today) and hopefully it's as easy as selecting all of the most recent ones you just created by mistake and deleting them. Use caution though and be certain they're the ones you want gone, you delete them and they're gone...

I burned a ton of songs from CD to Itunes and they showed up fine in my library. I bought a new Ipod at the same time my computer died so I'm now using a totally different computer. I logged in to my Itunes from this computer and can see every song purchased from Itunes. What I no longer see are the ones burned from cd.

Does this iPod have the contents of your library? If so see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. Otherwise, depending on the nature of the failure, you may be able to extract the hard drive and recover the media from it. Or you will have to rip your CDs again.
If you'd like access to all your media on any device/computer in future you might consider purchasing a subscription to iTunes Match though personally I just maintain my own backup of my library.

My husband and I are using the same computer. He has a ton of songs in iTunes that I don't want...but when I sync my iPod I get all of his songs too. Is there a way of setting up another ITunes account without having to untick all of the ton songs iTunes

No. Its not possible.
Alternatively, create another user account in your computer. Install iTunes in that account with the library you wish to sync.

1. Don't confuse "Apple ID" with iTunes Account ID. You can have many Apple IDs but only one iTunes account active at a time.
2. If you "changed" your iTunes account ID, you actually have 2 accounts - one under the old name plus the new name.
3. You can't merge the accounts - they remain separate. Apps purcahsed under the old account name will update ONLY WHEN THE PHONE IS SIGNED IN TO THE OLD ACCOUNT NAME and visa versa.
4. Likewise, you can sync only the apps, music, media purchased under the account the phone AND iTunes are signed in to.

HT1296 A while back all my songs on my iTunes (laptop) disappeared. All songs are still on my iPod nano, but I'm scared to try to sync. my iPod with computer/itunes as I know someone who accidently wiped out all their songs doing this. Suggestions?

A while back the songs on my itunes (laptop) just disappeared, but the songs are still on my ipod nano. Since this happend I purchased some songs which are now on my itunes/laptop, but NOT on my ipod.
I want to sync my iPod with my itunes account on my laptop (i.e. all songs on ipod are on itunes and vice-versa), however I know someone who attended a simular sync. and the accidently wiped-out all of their songs.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Select all the songs you want to be in one album, right click and choose "Get Information", delete the album name, if any, and type the one you want. You can also paste the Artwork in the right bottom box. Then click "Accept".

ITunes 7.0.1 duplicated ALL of my songs and I need to delete them

When I upgraded to the latest and greatest(?) iTunes it duplicated all of my songs. Is there a way that I can delete the duplications instead of by right clicking each song individually? There are about 600 songs that I need to delete and I don't have the time to do it manually, nor will my iPod support all of these songs. The must be a backup file/folder somewhere that I can delete. Also can I delete old iPod updaters (ie. from 2005) without impacting my iPod mini? Thank you!!!

You actually have to go into Devices and select your iPod from that list before the Photos option will even appear in the menu bar. Then you select photos and it will let you delete your iPod photo cache from there and will remove them for you while your iPod is plugged in.
I found the iPod cache folder through Finder on my Mac. (Start there first) When you select Pictures your iPod Cache folder will show up and you can delete the folder. Then change your syncing options so that doesn't happen again. IF I remember correctly, once you delete the folder you will get a prompt that asks you if you want to stop syncing photos. Problem is that I've changed my syncing options for this problem before and it still happens sometimes but I'm not sure why.

ITunes has duplicated half of my songs?

I have a 80gb iPod and I was using an old version of iTunes and had no problem. I do NOT have a Mac I have a PC using Microsoft XP. When iTunes asked me to download a newer version of iTunes, I did. After it was all installed and ready to go, I noticed that my music had went from 60gb to 87gb. Half of the music from my hard drive had duplicated in iTunes, but not in the hard drive itself. I tried to create a new link from what folder on my computer the iTunes is pulling from. That did not work. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it again to see if I could start from scratch and link the proper folder, but it continues to copy the files twice. I am very frustrated because I am unable to sync my iPod with the new songs I have added to my iTunes. I have also tried to import my files, but that does not work either.
Is there a way I can start with an empty iTunes, or will it continue to find music on the computer? Is there any way that I can remove or export all my songs out of iTunes and then add a new file to iTunes bringing all of the songs back and hopefully without duplications? If you could please give me some suggestions to try? I really would appreciate the help.

I think I may have seen an article somewhere that stated that there is a way to make the alarm on the iphone play a song from your itunes library some way. Am I dreaming or is this possible?

I recently found a way to add the "EXPLICIT" tag to songs in my iTunes Library (using Subler), and just presumed that the tags were not showing up in my iPhone Music because the phone simply did not have the function to display them.
However, in iOS 7, and seeing every song I have ever purchased, I noticed that the iPhone can indeed show whether songs are explicit or not (by marking them with a letter 'E').
Therefore I am just wondering why I can see whether songs are explicit on my Mac, yet not on my iPhone. I have tried removing the songs from my iTunes Library, syncing to remove them from my phone, re-adding them to my Library, and then re-syncing to put them back onto my phone, and the explicit tag still does not show up.
Please can you help me resolve this.

If you buy them as a Ringtone, then Itunes should automatically put them in Tones. It is a huge hassle and takes time most of us don't have to waste, when we purchased them as Tones and Apple told me they would automatically show up in Tones if purchased from Itunes Store. NOT! And we shouldn't have to google to find the answer. They should make that clear on Itunes store. Very disappoiinted in the Itunes upgrades that have caused so many problems.

so then technically I can't transfer the songs off my ipod to my itunes library? since it is one 1 transfer from pc to ipod...correct? I accidently moved a group of MP3 files (songs) from my iTunes to the trash. After doing a little research, I saw the suggestion of creating a folder on my desktop and dragging them from the trash to the new desktop folder. So, I did that, and as far as I can tell, the songs are all in the folder on my desktop. But when I try to drag the songs from the desktop folder to itunes, I get this message:
"Attempting to copy the disk Macintosh HD failed. You do not have enough access privaleges for this operation."
This makes no sense to me. This is my private computer so I should have all the privaleges I need to do anything, right? Anyway, can you help me move the songs back into iTunes? I have iTunes 11.1.1. Thanks!

It says you are trying to copy the "HD disk" so abviously not allowing that operation.
Open iTunes and from the menu select File>Add to Library... then select the Desktop from the sidebar and pick the folder containing the songs > click 'Open'
