Looking for guidance.. the title says it all!!  Been over paying for the past 5+ years with Verizon.

Based on your current bill, you are paying $50 for data plan, $25 per line and $20 + for a phone installment.  Or youre in a high tax state and have 2 year contracts.
If your contracts or Edge payments are almost complete.  It's a good time to evaluate.  carriers don't prorate, so port numbers 2-3 days before your bill end date.

Verizon and AT&T are tied for prices and plans
T-Mobile offers some plans slightly lower in price.  Their latest offer is a truly unlimited data plan, at a price.  It's not cheap, but it's real.
Sprint is slightly cheaper.  Not really half of other carriers.  You get what you pay for.

unless you bought an iPhone 6 or Nexus 6 your phone will not work on another major carrier.  there are prepaid carriers that use Verizon network.   So you will have to buy a new phone.
most carriers offer a perk for porting your numbers.  If the carrier offers to pay ETFs, you have to payoff your account and provide the proof, and turn in your current phone to get credit.
