Suddenly it won't open and asks for my serial number, which is fine - it's part of the original CS3 Design Premium pack of software. But when I enter the number it fails to recognize it - says it's not a valid number. What the heck? Any ideas?

If you mean whether you can just copy the applications from the old HD to the new one that would probably be useless even if the programs would technically harmonise with the new OS. -

Since you have purchased a new Mac (which, BTW, is not typed in all capitals) why not buy a Time Capsule <http://www.apple.com/airport-time-capsule/> which is designed specifically to work with OS X and Time Machine?
You don't say what part of your Sony "crashed." If it was not the HDD it is possible to take the computer apart, put the HDD in an external case, then recover the data off of it (including the music) simply drag-n-drop. If it was the HDD that "crashed" that makes it more difficult.
If you are able to recover the music from the Sony you can then add it to the iTunes library on the Mac and iTunes Match will then scan, match and upload the tracks to be mirrored in the cloud. -

Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
An alternative which is really not what you should have to do, or the way it is intended to be done, if you properly manage your computer and backups:

Sync transfer is one way, computer to device, matching the device content to the content on the computer (except purchased content as mentioned above). Do not regard your i-device as a reliable unique storage for your media. It is not a backup device and everything is structured around you maintaining your media on a computer which is itself backed up. -

You cannot redownload audiobooks at all. The audiobook industry does not allow this.
As always have been the case, you should copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one. -

If you have the suite then you have to download the whole suite otherwise the Serial Number will not work, if you only download Photoshop. Once you download the suite you can choose to only install Photoshop and use the Serial number you have.

We would need to know the version of Mac OS you are running and the version of Photoshop you want to install.
The serial number is the tricky part. If you have no idea where you placed it and did not register your product with Adobe, your chances are very low of retrieving it. -
I have a new Mac and I migrated mi old one to this. I can not open iTunes because a message stating "iTunes Library.itl" can not be opened because it was created in more recent version of iTunes. There is not a new version to download. How can I fix this?
Go to iTunes > about iTunes. What version are you running? If necessary, hold down the option key while starting iTunes and create a new, test library so it will start.

I have done my back up using time machine, now I have a new mac and I need to access the files that I had saved from my old mac. How can I do that?
Use Migration Assistant on your new Mac:
Click Continue:
On the next screen, choose your Time Machine backup disk.
Don't bother to migrate Applications unless you know they will work on your new Mac. For example, PowerPC applications won't work. Just migrate your user account which will copy all your photos, music, movies, and other documents.
Note: you will not be able to migrate the information to same account in which you are already logged in. Migration Assistant will tell you that and recommend what to do. It can migrate the information to a new account, but you will have to give it a name you might want to change later. One way around this is to create a temporary account, log in to it, and run Migration Assistant which will replace your normal account. Then, log out of the temporary account, log in to your usual one, verify everyting works as you expect, and delete the temporary one.
All this can be avoided when you set up a brand new Mac by running Setup Assistant which essentially does the same thing to create your new account, but most people are too excited to do that and elect to migrate later. -
My dad put a new mac in and the old Mac had my photos on it, and I checked iPhoto after it the new computer was plugged in and there was no photos in it, and my dad said that they should be in there but they aren't, so is there a way to get my photos onto the new Mac without the old one and without an external or flash drive? the basic answer to moving photos is Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) or use an external hard drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward. but you say you do not have the old computer
Unless you have a backup or there is more information the answer is there s no way now

Both my husband and I have our MacBook Pros backed up to Time Machine. I have a new MacBook Pro and want to download my files, etc. from Time Machine to my new Mac. I do I ensure that Time Machine downloads only MY files to my new Mac, and not my husband's files?
OS X uses a unique identifier so there will be no problems.

If the machine is brand new. Be patient. Look in the top left corner and observe whether there is a "pulsing" dot in the magnifying glass.:
If there is then this is Spotlight indexing you machine. This takes a little while (and is annoying) but will complete. Also... if you have connected you machine to an external hard drive AND set up Time Machine the computer may be running a back (which again takes some time). Finally if you imported lots of pictures in into iPhoto, it may be processing th pictures for Faces.
If you REALLY want to know what program is using all the time open a program call "Activity Monitor" (found in /Applications/Utilites) and look at the CPU section and sort by CPU%: -

If you can't remember them then go to Express Lane and select 'iTunes' from the list of 'products' in the middle of the screen.
Then select 'iTunes Store', and on the next screen select 'Account Management'
Next choose 'iTunes Store Account Security' and fill in that you'd like your security questions/answers reset.
You should get an email reply within about 24 hours (and check your Spam folder as well as your Inbox) - Apple were recently reviewing their security processes so it was taking longer than 24 hours, and I don't know if that review has now finished. -
Problem: I have a New Mac and my iPod is formatted for Windows
My old computer (PC with Windows) crashed and took all my music with it.
I got a new computer, a Mac. I have looked at many different programs for moving music from the iPod to the computer and many are appealing (Podworks and iRip). However, they do not seem to be working because my computer is not recognizing my iPod. I set my iPod into disk mode by following the instructions on this website. However, that has not helped.
The problem may be in the fact that my iPod is formatted for Windows and I am no longer using Windows. I cannot reformat my iPod for a Mac at this point because my iPod is the only location of my music. Reformatting it now would erase all my music and I have no backup!!
When I am plugging my iPod into the computer, I am holding the Option+Command keys to make sure that the iPod does not automatically sync. Is this necessary? I ask this because my iPod has no connection with this computer's iTunes and I have doubts that it would automatically sync. It seems that by holding the Option+Command Keys I am preventing the computer from recognizing the iPod. A brief iPod icon appears on the desktop and then disappears.Have you failed to maintain a backup?
