I've got a Zen 8gb, but probably going for an iPod because.

My Zen 8GB is my first mp3 player. This player is really something when it comes to watching videos and movies. I have no major complaints.... But searching the net and discovering more about ipod i finally quit the idea of buying the new Zen 32GB and going for an ipod classic 80GB. Probalby i'll give the Zen to my wife. The reasons that push me to that are: . In my opinion an ipod is more stylish than Zen. Zen is plastic while an ipod (6th generation) is metallic. 2. No card integration to the players library so far (and i don't know if it ever that happens). At least the moderators here in this forum should post something like "ok boys and girls, we are working on this, stay cool". No news about that. 3. When it comes to fast forwarding in a movie you can not see at wich point is the movie. No preview while fast forwarding while an ipod can do that. 4. The wheel button on the ipod is really something and much more handy than the cross-square button on Zen. 5. 80GB versus 32GB...big difference. I need more space...! 6. The price of an ipod classic 80GB is much lower than the 32GB Zen. I know (as a friend in here replied to me) that the flash memory Zen uses is of a better quality than the hard dri've of the ipod and i respect that...i really do...but i think i am sticking at the older technology. The only thing that for the moment i see as a minor concerning the ipod, is that you have to use itunes to do everything. For the moment, and not seeing that in act, that worries me a bit. Zen is purely drag and drop into the player...no worries! But i think i can manage that when i get the hung of it. I don't know if my thoughts are right or i've been brain washed by all that apple-propaganda. The thing is that apple's products are everywhere. Here in Greece you can find anything on apple's product but concerning Zen...we stuck on the 8GB version. No 6 or 32GB versions yet...! Why I think that this shows people's petition here in Greece and it's not satisfying. I heard that especially when it comes to player like Zen V Plus and Zen V (and that comes from a people that works in a store selling electronics and computers)... "people are bringing them like crazies back to as for refund or to give them a new one cause 50% of those players are faulty" Anyway...if someone has a different view on that matter i would be glad to hear it. I am not against Creative, i really do like the product but i just don't think it can reach the ipod classic.

When Creative had their harddisk players they are cheaper than the flash memory versions but there are several limitations to harddisk based players.
Firstly, a harddisk has moving parts and a small size harddisk used by the MP3 players would inevitably be more sensiti've and face a higher probably of damage. It all depends on how you plan to use the player. If you are going to place the player on a table while you listen to it then the harddisk based players would work fine. However, if you plan to be on the move while listening to your music then this type of activity would increase the possibly of harddisk damage. Just jogging or cycling with your harddisk based MP3 players may be enough to damage the harddisk and render the player unusable. Dropping it would indeed be a big no-no. However if the player is flash memory based, you can shake it, drop it (within a reasonable distance) and so on would not damage the player. You may scratch the exterior but that pretty much all the damage you would cause.
Secondly, because a harddisk player has moving parts, it would inevitable draw more power and thus you will need a huge and powerful battery in order to provide sufficient power and thus the harddisk based players are bigger and bulkier. The flash memory does not use as much power and thus the battery used can be smaller. Besides flash memory are thin and thus you can get smaller and lighter players which can fit nicely in the pocket.
Thirdly, the harddisk typically would have a lower Meantime Before Failure compared to Flash memory and thus it would mean the flash memory based players would typically last a lot longer.
The harddisk manufacturers from what I read are scaling down on harddisk for mp3 players as the prices of flash memory comes down and rendering the cost benefits of the harddisk redundant.
?However, in the end, the choice is pretty much yours.

Take your original proof of purchase from an Apple authorized retailer (or Apple Store) and the police report, make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and they should be able to help you.

  • Screen is dead on nearly new Zen 8gb but will turn on briefly when doc

Suddenly, the screen on my 3-week-old Zen 8g won't light up when I power on, though the functions seem to be OK. When I dock it to my computer, the screen comes on and shows the connected icon, and briefly stays on - a couple of times it even showed the normal menu. But then it goes dead. I reset it, did the recovery tool, downloaded latest firmware, still no go.
Any ideas out there? should I send it back?

Seems like the Zen it not charging.
Have you tried charging it directly without a USB hub?
If so, try charging it from another computer if possible.
If it still doesn't fully charge with the battery symbol green (not flashing)?AND with a plug symbol in it then just
do what the coach said above.

  • How do I easily redownload all my purchased songs that I got on my computer but don't have any more because I recently had to get a new hardrive?

I recently had to get a new hardrive for my computer from the apple store when my hardrive failed.  I wasn't able to back up all my purchased itunes items before my computer crashed.  Therefore, I've been trying to redowload them all by just going through my past purchase history in itunes and press reodownload.  But this is really tedious.  Is there a faster way to get all the music back? It doesn't redownload it when I press check for dowloads because it thinks the songs are already on this computer because they once were....

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not available in all countries; apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this). Movies currently available in the USA only. Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list, or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.
Select the store on the left side of iTunes.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases.

  • HT202157 Setting this up initial.  I've got an Apple Id but it asks for my ITUNE Account.  How to I do that?

I've created an Apple Account, how do I create an ITune Account.  setting up my Apple TV and it's asking for that

It's the same thing. Use your Apple ID and password to sign in.

  • New to this, I have 100's of song on my PC. when i click on the song it ask where to send, I click on E drive witch is my ipod, it say it is sync. but never goes on my ipod, whay am I doing wrong (not through itunes)

Help, I have cd's that I have burned on my pc and want to move them to my ipod 6th. it shows syncing but nver makes it through. What am I doing wrong?  Yes it is the little square one

OK have you got the latest iTunes installed?
Now decide if you want all the music in iTunes or only some of it, this can't be undone if you transfer all so you might want to hold off on that for now.
Now copy the tracks you want on your iPod to a folder on your desktop, name the folder whatever you want, and the in iTunes files click on add folder to iTunes and point it at that folder.
Music added and now sync the music to your iPod.
This is just a stopgap as you figure out how you want to manage your music with iTunes, something to do while you read the guide.  That's where you'll find out how to put all your music in iTunes but wait on that till you're sure what you want.

  • New ZEN 8GB... Where are bookmar

I was listening to my favorite podcast this evening on my brand new Zen 8GB, but when I went to turn it off and save my place (which I used to do with a 'bookmark' on my microphoto) I found that bookmarks DON'T EXIST!!! AM I MISSING SOMETHING?Seriously, last night I was chuckling at some of the irate posts about how badly the Zen has disapointed new owners, now I feel like I'm the butt of my own joke!?There HAS to be some way to save a position in a long video or MP3. Please, someone tell me I'm overlooking something!?Just give me back my bookmarks and I won't get (too) angry about the poor SD support, lack of radio recording, poor divx/xvid implementation, and?no H.264 decoding. Thats all I ask. Just bookmarks and I'll shut up. ?

No, you read it right, and yes, I was wrong... there definitely are bookmarks available when playing music. However, I am using Zencast to subscribe to podcasts now, both audio only and video. I didn't on the microphoto but when I would be working out I would put my music on play all shuffle so I would get my podcasts mixed in with the music and it throw my rhythm, you know. Anyhow, I thought Zencast would be a better solution. Where would I put a feature request for the Zen firmware I want the Zencast menu on the top level, not stuck under 'Video' and I want bookmark support on everything... audio, video, podcast, zencast... whatever. Until then I guess I'll go back to manually downloading my audio podcasts and creating playlsts to exclude them from the music. What a headache.

  • Zen 8gb batt

Ok, I got the zen 8GB for christmas, and the battery dies on it like none other, is there anything I can do, or what? I think it's been getting around 5 hours (haven't timed it though, just a guesstimate)

I believe the energy saving mode comes on only if you lock the player, otherwise it may drain more power as it would need to power the screen even if it is dim. I remember reading somewhere that WMA drains more battery power than MP3 because WMA is a more complex music file format. This article http://www.mp3.com/features/stories/3646.html?may be helpful in understanding battery drain on players.

  • My ZEN 8GB always have that blue light glowi

I just installed it and was upadting everything. Now I did the Firmware update last and at the end, it said ''Rebooting player...'', I did saw my player close but never re-opened again. I waited 5 minutes. Screen still black and it has the blue light glowing like if it was charging even thought I fully charged it. Now the problem is my computer can't no longer detected it. But I can't turn on my player. I removed the USB cable and still has the blue light glowing. I can't do absolutely nothing with my player except staring at he blue light and the black screen. Help please.Message Edited by SimonMK on 2--200707:4 PM

I pushed the Reset button. It did close my player but when I turn it on, I see the Creative and ZEN title but it goes back to a black screen and has that blue light glowing again. I thought the battery were over so I reset it again. And plug it in my computer. My player automatically turn on and do the same thing. It doesn't recharge the battery since I see no icon of the battery on the screen.
