I've got the move tool and the layer selected...

but for some reason I can't get the text to align anywhere. The align buttons are acting as if they are greyed out. Is there something I'm missing?

You need at least two layers selected (the text layer and the background layer) or the text layer and a selection (i.e. Select All...) for the alignment commands and buttons to enable and to alight the text to the document.

There is not Content Aware Move or Recompose tool in Premiere Elements.

why can I only have three layers: the reason is that you most likely are using the maximum dimension.
you can then only use three layers. If you would work with smaller dimensions you would get more layers.
Repositioning the selection - you can do this by pressing on the selection and moving it Or you can use the selection/transform.
Move tool - if you want to move a selected area use transform (icon that looks like a cross) - note that it can lead to minor artifacts depending on how good your selection was.
If you want to move all pixels on a layer withuot selection it will do that too.

I drew a shape with the pen tool (which took me ages..) , I traced it from a picture I imported, and i am unable to reselect it. I can see it in red but I am just not able to reselect it. I have the layer selected, but there is no sign of it in my paths panel at all. I tried clicking the direct selection tool (about 100 times), I tried the brush tool. I tried everything. The same thing happened to me the other day..... Please can someone help!!!! Tania

Why does the move tool and the resize function freeze when I insert pictures to a layer?

This is very annoying. I was stupid enough to buy a one year subscription to Photoshop CC, only to find that it is ruining my happiness. I am trying to run it on a brand new Macbook Pro 15 retina i7 running Yosemite, and everything works fine, except for this one thing - when I drag a new photo into a layer, the resize function and the move tool stops working for a very long time. If I am patient enough, the functions will finally wake up. Is there a way to get around this problem? I have searched the forum without any luck, and I am just about to start jumping up and down, calling Adobe by names that will make my neighbors cover up their ears. $/!"%%#/&%"#W)!ÆY!!!

Right-mouse on the Synaptics toolbar icon to bring up Mouse Properties, select the Device Settings tab, press Settings to bring up Properties for Synatpics ClickPad, on the left open Pointing... Sensitivity... Palm Check. This is a feature to prevent accidental touchpad movement by your palm while you're typing. So it prevents use of the touch pad when keys are directly used.

Layer palette issue. I choose a layer and when I use move tool on that layer PSCC jumps to another layer

I am Using Photoshop CC 14.2.1x32. When I choose a layer in the layers palette and then use the move tool to re-position an element on that layer, PS forces a jump to another layer. The only way I can re-position is by using free transform on the layer I want to work on. What is happening with PS CC? Please help. About to dump CC and go back to CS 6

You might have been able to change the Auto Select option from the default Group to the usually more user friendly Layer. It's one heck of a useful feature, so get used to using it if you can. For instance, if you have a lot of layers, it can make it a lot easier just to find a particular layer in the layers panel.

Move tool and command key in photoshop 2014.2 is driving me mad

Hi all,
I'm extremely frustrated with the new move tool in the 2014.2 update. I can no longer able to isolate a selected layer and move it about by holding down command key. Instead every time by holding down command key (while move tool is selected), it'll toggle between layer and group selection. So when you drag, instead of just moving the isolated layers, it'll toggle group and drag the entire group.
Does anyone know how can I revert this back to the good old days or how do I revert back to 2014.1 version.

I was greeted with the same frustration this morning. Talked to a coworker and found a way around the update.
Turn OFF auto-select (I know, it’s a bummer)
Command click layers on your canvas -OR- just select the subfolders and multiple layers in the layers palette.
Drag those selected multiple layers around (no need to hold any key down or aim mouse over layers)
To deselect layers, command click outside canvas
Looks like the update is forcing us to press “Command” PRIOR (instead of during) the move action. Hope it helps, coworker said not using auto-select prevent him to move things by accident.

Just got a Movie Box and can't get it to work

I just purchased a movie box from Pinnacle in hopes of transfering some of my vhs tapes to the computer in a quick and painless fashion. This is proved to be anything but!
First of all, even though the box is Mac compatible, the software isn't. And there are absolutely no instructions on how to use it with a Mac. I beilieve that I have everything hooked up correctly but have no idea where to go from here. It doesn't "pop up" on the screen or anything, and I can't find anywhere in iMovie to connect to it or import anything. It's like the computer doesn't even recognize it.
I was in a previous discussion group that told me to go with the movie box. Are any of you still out there that could shed a little light on the subject for me?

I have one it works fine. yeah, the Mac instructions aren't great. Try this.
(1) make sure you have your VCR audio and video outputs connected to the side with the two selection switches.
(2) be sure you know the difference between the audio and video outputs no matter which colors you use.
(3) make sure the indicator light is green on cable that connects to your computers firewire port.
(4) when you operate the vcr through Imovie. you will only be able to play your vhs tape. so to fast forward or reverse. you must use your vcr remote or your hand.
(5) to import your footage just click on import in imovie.
That should solve your problem. Also, in the future put these questions in the imovie forum.

Cannot change tools and cannot use selection or crop tools

I am using Photoshop Extended CS6. A new problem has started to occur recently. I can select a tool, but I can't change the tool type. For example, I can select the Lasso Tool and when I right-click the tool fly-out appears, but I cannot select a tool from the fly-out to change the tool type. The editing tools, at least the ones I can select, still work except for the selection and crop tools. For the crop tool, the crop lines appear at the edge of the image but they cannot be moved. For the selection tools, nothing is selected. I can still use menu commands such as Canvas Size.
This happens when I open a file or start a new file. I have Windows 7, 4G memory and nothing else running. I have tried 32-bt and 64-bit versions.
This has happened intermittently for a month or two. In the past, freeing up space on a hard drive seemed to help. But now I have 50G free on one drive and 30G free on another so I don't see how that could be the problem. Rebooting allows me to use the crop tool once, but then the problem reoccurs.
Ideas, anyone?

No keyboard macro programs installed. Microsoft Security Essentials is installed. It says it is up to date and there are no problems. A keyboard test program found no problems. I have tried two USB keyboards with the same results I have 10% free on my system drive: and 15% free on my second drive.
More clues:
If I open Photoshop by opening a file, the problem immediately occurs. If I open Photoshop and then open a file, it works until I press a key as described above.
The problem only occurs in Photoshop. I’ve tried lots of other programs, including Premiere, Audition and Illustrator; they all work correctly.
The problem can occur without a keyboard attached. As I described above, if I switch to another application (Windows Explorer in my test) and then switch back, the problem occurs. This is true even if there is no internal keyboard and no USB keyboard.

Folders moves up and down when selected

Hi! I always used Mac Computers at work with no problems. I bought an iMac and when I open a folder and select a sub-folder or other documents (as jpg or doc) - without open them, just a selection - they have little movements up and down, right and left... I suppose it could be an arrangement of the font, anybody have this problem too? Some tips to fix it?

Apologies for the delay. Did restart in safe and still doing it. Each click of the mouse wheel sends it about five lines worth of text. Doesn't matter which way you roll the wheel either. It goes into the opposite direction each click. I'm thinking it has something to do with the config stuff but I'm lost in there.

How do I use just 1 click with move tool (command v) to select layer within group?

Is there a way to click just once with "command V" to select a layer within a group?
I used to be able to do it, and on my laptop I can do it now (same OS and Photoshop) but the mac I use for my design work won't do it...I have to also right click and select the layer that is highlighted. I have a many multilayered Photoshop document with lots of groups, and it's an extra time consuming step.
Is there some preference I can turn on? Or some other simple keystroke?
