I've had my hard drive replaced and the iPhoto app is gone

Where did my iPhoto app go on my computer? Hard rice has been replaced

If you replace a hard drive nothing is still there -
reinstall from the original source
Could be
1 - the restore disks that came with the computer
or
2 - the iLife DVD that you purchased
or
3 - the app store - log in under the Apple id used to purchase the software or to set up the computer - look under purchases - you might have to unhide or accept the Application first

I set up Firefox sync from my old computer. This has had its hard drive replaced and been sold. I now want to retrieve the information and get my bookmarks on my new computer. I can't see any way to do this!
    Help please

To build on the second option provided by The Edmeister make sure that you have your Sync Key, if this is not the case Firefox Sync will not help you (data is encrypted with that Key).
Finally, if the last sync happened long time ago, it may be the case that your data is not on the servers anymore. Firefox Syn wasn't designed as a back up service.

  • Had my hard drive replaced and I've restored from TimeMachine backup. I have changed my username and now I can't access my old backups on my TimeMachine hard drive

I've recently had my hard drive replaced in the Apple Store.
I used time machine to backup and after I got my mac back with the new hard drive I restored all my files which are now on my computer and I can access it with no problems.
The problem is that I've changed my username (admin) and when I enter time machine, I can't access the backups of my old hard drive which is really frustrating.
A red negative sign appears on most folders. Also in macintosh HD/users there is a folder named with my old username and I get the same red negative sign in the folders.
Any idea what can be done about this?
If you need more info just ask.
    Thanks in advance

Turn Time Machine OFF temporarily in its preference pane. Leave the window open.
Navigate in the Finder to your backup disk, and then to the folder named "Backups.backupdb" at the top level of the volume. If you back up over a network, you'll first have to mount the disk image file containing your backups by double-clicking it. Descend into the folder until you see the snapshots, which are represented by folders with a name that begins with the date of the snapshot. Find the one you want to restore from. There's a link named "Latest" representing the most recent snapshot. Use that one, if possible. Otherwise, you'll have to remember the date of the snapshot you choose.
Inside the snapshot folder is a folder hierarchy like the one on the source disk. Find one of the items you can't restore and select it. Open the Info dialog for the selected item. In the Sharing & Permissions section, you may see an entry in the access list that shows "Fetching…" in the Name column. If so, click the lock icon in the lower right corner of the dialog and authenticate. Then delete the "Fetching…" item from the icon list. Click the gear icon below the list and select Apply to enclosed items from the popup menu.
Now you should be able either to copy the item in the Finder or to restore it in the time-travel view. If you use the time-travel view, be sure to select the snapshot you just modified. If successful, repeat the operation with the other items you were unable to restore. You can select multiple items in the Finder and open a single Info dialog for all of them by pressing the key combination option-command-I.
When you're done, turn TM back ON and close its preference pane.

  • I had my hard drive replaced and since my Time Machine backups say failed

I had my hard drive replace and since my Time Capsule backups are failing. The exact message is:
The backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk.
The problem may be temporary. Try again later to back up. If the problem persists, use disk utility to repair your backup disk.

No, replacing your hard drive has nothing to do with it. There is a problem with your backup drive. As far as Time Machine is concerned replacing a drive is no different than buying a new computer. Time Machine will need to make a brand new backup from scratch.
If you have a large enough backup drive this may not be a problem. Otherwise, you may not have sufficient space to maintain a new backup and keep the old one. So, I would suggest under the circumstances that you erase your backup drive, then start a new Time Machine backup from scratch.
    Drive Erase
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After Disk Utility loads select the volume you wish to format from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the Disk Utility main window.
    3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.

I just had the seagate hard drive replaced and the fan is running loud

Is your iMac a late 2009 or newer model? Did Apple do the replacement or someone else? There is a documented issue where Apple changed the hard drive heat sensor from outside the drive to inside. If you install a replacement hard drive in a late 2009 or newer iMac that's not an Apple-sourced drive, two things happen ... the fan runs like crazy and the Apple hardware test doesn't work properly.

  • I just had my hard drive replaced and restored everything from a Time Machine external hard drive backup and now my "note" widgets won't load. Any ideas ?

I just had my hard drive replaced. I restored it using a Time Machine backup on an external hard drive. When I open Dashboard none of my "note" widgets will load. The other widgets open, such as weather, weather radar, calculater, dictionary, stock...  Even the iPhoto Mini widget works, just not the notes ( Sticky Notes and K-Notes ).  Any ideas on how to fix this ?

I did some research and found the solution to my problem. So I hope it's okay to answer my own question.
When you reinstall the OS, your Preferences go back to their default settings. Apparently Preferences is where this widget information is stored. This Preferences folder is located in the user Library folder which is hidden by default. You can access it using "one, or the other" of the following actions.
Action 1:      (1) In the Finder, choose Go > Go To Folder
                         (2) In the Go To Folder dialog, type ~/Library
                         (3) Click Go
                                                          -- OR --
Action 2:     Hold down the option (alt) key when using the Go menu. The Library folder is listed just                            below the Home folder.
After opening the Preferences folder, the file that you want to locate for k-notes is named
    widget-com.rakoth.lichlord.widget.k-notes.plist
After you locate it make note of the byte size of the file. Now, with the Preferences folder still open, open Time Machine and go back in time until you see a big jump in the file size. That will be your uncorrupted plist. Restore it and close Time Machine.
    Then Restart your computer.
After following this procedure I brought up Dashboard and my blank k-notes were now refilled with the previous text and color that occupied them before I had to restore the OS.
This procedure also worked for Sticky notes, which in the Preference folder are named
    widget-com.apple.widget.stickies.plist

  • My mac had to have its hard drive replaced and now iPhoto is not on my computer. how do i get it back with no charge?

my macbook pro's hard drive crashed and a new one had to be put in. due to these circumstances, i lost everything. when i bought my computer, iphoto was already installed and i did not have to pay for it. i am wondering if there is a way i can reinstall it with no charge since it was not my error that cause the computer to malfunction.

You will find all the iLife applications are in the Optional Software installer folder on the OS X installer DVDs that came with your computer when it was new.

  • TS1627 I had my hard drive replaced within the last month.  Now I have trouble with the MAIL function.  Sometimes it is open in the menu on top, but does not bring up mail.  Then it grays out the QUIT MAIL function and I am stuck.

I have problems closing my MAIL.  The function of Quit is grayed out.  I cannot turn off the computer because it says mail still open.  I have had this problem off and on ever since getting a new hard drive and reloading all the functions.  The only way I can clear it is to hold the power button down till it shuts off the computer, and then restart it.

Cant get help with this issue on Apple Support, so I have to go to the Apple store to the Genius Bar to get assistance.  All the help issues are so technical in their jargon, that I cannot understand how to fix the issue.

  • HT4906 My hard drive replaced and my iPhoto has gone!

    Hello All,
My 16 month old Mac Book Pro's hard drive has failed so I have had it replaced. I had iphoto on my mac from when I purchased it but now it has gone (along with my mac office) and all my photos too :-( Truly gutted. Is there anything i can do to get iphoto back or will I need to purchase it now?
Dont think its right I should have to now buy it?
    Thanks,

What is the operating system you originally had on your Mac, when you bought it? And what was the iPhoto version you last used?
If you already upgraded to MacOS X Mavericks and have been running iPhoto '11, version 9.5.1, you can download iPhoto again from the AppStore. Sign into the AppStore with the AppleID you used, when you set up your mac initially and open the "Purchased" tab, as described in this Support Document:
OS X: About OS X Recovery
Scroll down to the middle of the page:
Restoring iLife applications after Internet Restore of OS X
If your computer came with OS X Lion or later and you erase your hard disk and install OS X, you can download iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand from the Mac App Store.
After installation, start (up) from OS X.
Choose App Store from the Apple menu.
Enter your Apple ID and password when prompted.
    Click Purchases.
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your computer. Your account will not be charged for them. Click Install to complete installation of your applications.
Applications you bought from the AppStore can be restored by downloading them from the Purchased tab.
To restore your iPhoto library and other applications, you need to restore from your backup - a Time Machine Backup for example, or a bootable clone of your drive.

  • I recently had my hard drive replaced and now iTunes won't allow me sync my iPhone without deleting all the media contents and replacing it with the existing library. Is there another way without erasing everything?

I have already backed up my iPhone, yet it still will not allow me to move the contents of my phone onto my computer. Rather, it wants to delete everything off of my phone and replace it with the contents on my iTunes. Is there a way I can integrate both my iTunes and iPhone? There used to be autofill on iTunes, but I can no longer find it.

    Hello there, DollyVong.
