I've installed Flashplayer but Firefox acts as if it's not installed

I've just installed Firefox, and so far am loving it. However, I just had to install flashplayer, and Firefox doesn't seem to want to run it.
I've uninstalled Flashplayer and tried reinstalling it, which didn't work.
I uninstalled it then installed it via IE (telling the page to "instal for firefox") That didn't work either.
How do I get Firefox to recognise Flashplayer and use it once it's installed?
Many thanks, I look forward to your help.

A couple of things to check.
Make sure that the option to scan for plugins is turned on, it will be very unusual if it is turned off but worth checking
# Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
# Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
# Locate the preference '''plugin.scan.plid.all''', it should be set to '''true''', if it is not double-click on it to change its value
The file that stores details of plugins may be damaged, try renaming this file which will force Firefox to scan for all plugins.
This can be caused if one of the files that stores details of installed extensions is corrupt.
# Open your profile folder, for details of how to find it see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles
# Close Firefox
# Rename pluginreg.dat to pluginreg.old
# Re-start Firefox, it will then rebuild the list of plugins

  • Firefox 30.0a2 doen't recognises flashplayer, but Firefox 27 does

I'm using Linux Mint 15 Olivia, I update my Firefox using the ppa:mozillateam/firefox-next but it only update my firefox to 27.
So I downloaded firefox-aura and intalled it on /opt/firefox-aurora. Now I have both firefox 27 and 30 on my pc. Well my firefox 27 recognises my flashplugin but firefox-aurora not.
It doesn't seems to be a problem with the plugin itself as it works fine with a previous version.
I thought about put the plugin manually inside firefox-aurora/plugins but there isn't a folder plugins, and I don't know if just to create a folder 'plugins' and to put a symbolic link to my flashplayer plugin will work...

  • After I close the browser, it will not reopen for a while. I receive a message stating that firefox is still running. I can open IE at this point, but firefox is disabled for about 10 minutes

After I close the firefox browser, I cannot repoen the program. There is an error message to the effect that the program is still running. I cannot access it withthe ALT TAB command and I dont see the program active in the task bar. I can run IE at that time and get back to the web, but Firefox wont open for several minutes-not sure how long. I wait a while and I can back to the browser. Can't update the flashplayer becasue it states I need to close firefox? Not sure why, I have an updated version of flashplayer but when I go in through firefox it tells me I need to update it, but won't because I am in firefox. This seems to be a problem when I am in FB.

You must close Firefox to install the update after it is saved to your hard drive. Follow the instructions below.
There are 2 versions of Adobe Flash. Both must be installed and updated on Windows systems. In Firefox it would show as Shockwave Flash in your plug-ins, if you had it installed.
*an ActiveX version for IE only
*a plug-in version for Firefox and most other browsers
#'''Install or Update the [[Managing the Flash plugin|Flash]] plugin''' to the latest version.
#*Download and SAVE to your Desktop so you can find the installer later
#*If you do not have the current version, click on the "Player Download Center" link on the "'''Download and information'''" or "'''Download Manual installers'''" below
#*After download is complete, exit Firefox
#*Click on the installer you just downloaded and install
#**Windows 7 and Vista: may need to right-click the installer and choose "Run as Administrator"

  • I have installed Adobe Flash but firefox does not show as plugin

I have downloaded the most recent versions of Firefox (30.0) and Adobe Flash Player. The Adobe website tells me my flash player is installed and current but Firefox does not show it as a plug in and a site that requires flash player (google finance) to view charts does not work. The place for the chart remains blank after telling me it has loaded.
    Any thoughts?

When a page is using a plugin, usually an icon similar to a piece of Lego appears in the address bar. You can click the logo to check that Flash is allowed to run on the page, or approve it to run if it isn't.
I randomly picked a stock and enlarged the chart and got the following URL. Any luck with this one: http://www.google.com/finance?chdnp=1&chdd=1&chds=1&chdv=1&chvs=maximized&chdeh=0&chfdeh=0&chdet=1405540800000&chddm=1173&chls=IntervalBasedLine&q=NASDAQ%3AAAPL&ntsp=0&fct=big&ei=YJzGU_iiEZSziALE4oCYCg
Does it matter whether you view it in a regular tab or in a private window? To view in a private window, right-click the link > Open Link in New Private Window.

  • Adobe flash is installed, but firefox won't use it

I have flash 11.1 installed. It's icon appears in my app list, but firefox' add on list doesn't have it. How do I fix this?

I have a very similar problem, as do lots of others judging by the number of posts in this forum. I use Flash rarely, so unsure when things went wrong, but I first noticed with Fx 34.0. I tried 34.1 - same. Now on 33.1 - same. Not prepared to try reinstalling any earlier versions as it's so much work (have to uninstall Fx completely, reinstall from backup and set up Fx completely from scratch including all add-ons).
What I have found is that if I reinstall Flash, then it works the first time Fx is used. Once Fx has been completely closed down, then Flash will not work in Fx again until Flash is again reinstalled. Obviously this is not a working solution.

i cant login anywhere as all my passwords are saved in firefox, i cant even access teh firefox preference to get my password, it's so sad

You likley have a corrupted Firefox preference or other support file in your User/Library folder.
Programs load these files from the user account to adjust to user specifications, instead of having multiple copies of the same program on the machine.
So when you reinstalled Firefox, it reinstalled the progrma only and the user support files remained from before.
To prove this point, use System Preferences to create another Admin account and log into it, Firefox should run like a charm.
To remove the Firefox support files from the problem user account your going to need to locate these files and delete them one at a time and try FF again and again.
The first one you shoull try is your FF .plist file located in your User/Library folder.
Clicm on the Finder and use the Go > Go to Folder and paste this
    ~/Library/Preferences
    and press Go.
Now scroll down until you see the Firefox or Mozilla .plist file and Trash it, quit and restart Firefox, it will recreate the preference file with default settings you will have to reset it.
Next run through the list of fixes #1-13 here before proceeding.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3353
If you need help deleting other FF files, download the free Easy Find from MacUpdate.com and search for anything "Mozilla" or "Firefox" in your User account only and take your chances you hopefully won't delete your password file in the process.
You should have site passwords written down someplace and locked up tightin case you need them, a computer isn't totally safe and reliable.

  • I have installed Seven 2.0.2 appearance add-on but Firefox reverts to the default each time I close it.

I have installed Seven 2.0.2 as an appearance add-on, but Firefox keeps reverting to the Firefox 11 default every time it closes. Is there any way round this?

    Hi smoc,
You should look at the article [[Preferences are not saved]]. It sounds like Firefox is just having trouble writing to the pref.js file.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • I installed to Java 7 Update 13 64 bit today but firefox does not recognize

I installed to Java 7 Update 13 64 bit today but firefox does not recognize it. I have removed all older versions of Java from my Windows 7 64 bit Laptop.

Install the 32bit version. FF is a 32bit application even on a 64bit platform.

  • After installing Java plugin, Firefox Appearance changed. Now Java completely works, but Firefox looks ugly

I recently had to install the Java Plugin.... Well, it took me about 20 minutes to get it right... I made some mistakes, like, copying another Lib files, or copying the lib files themselves and not links to them. I should say i am using Slackware 14.0. Well, i managed to install the plugin correctly, but firefox changed from this: http://cdn.portableapps.com/FirefoxPortable.png to this imageshack.us/scaled/landing/837/snapshot1c.png
I am new to Linux, kind of... And i am new to Firefox too... I searched online but i couldnt find nobody with the same problem... I checked to see if it was a Theme, but i only have the Default 15.0.1

You get the orange Firefox menu button if the menu bar is hidden (View > Toolbars).<br />
On Linux the (gray) Firefox menu button will appear on the Tab bar and not instead of the title bar as on the Windows screenshot.

  • I have the latest edition of the Flash player and it works fine with IE but Firefox keeps telling me I can play things because I dont have it

Since I updated Firefox I cant play anything that requires Flash player. I have the up to date player and it works perfectly with IE but Firefox keeps telling me I need another plug in and when I follow the instructions it says 'download failed try manual download' but even that fails too.
Before I updated Firefox I had no issues, can you help
    Alan.

There are 2 versions of Adobe Flash:
*an '''ActiveX version''' for IE only
*a '''Plugin version''' for most other browsers including Firefox
*On a Windows system, you should always update both individually.
'''''You do not appear to have the Plugin version for Firefox installed. ''''' If you did, in Add-ons > Plugins you would see "Shockwave Flash ''(version)''". If "Shockwave Flash" is there and is disabled, click the "Enable" button.
Check your Plugins often --> http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
*only the most popular/used Plugins are known by this page
*page will detect only installed, '''''enabled''''' Plugins
    '''<u>Install or update Adobe Flash</u>'''<br />
#'''<u>Using Firefox</u>''', go to the following link and SAVE the download to your desktop so you can find it later. Un-check any items on that page that you do not want to download (i.e., "McAfee Security Scan Plus":
#When the download is finished, close Firefox (File > Exit '''''OR''''' Firefox button > Exit)
#Click or double-click on the file you just saved to your desktop
#*In the installation window that appears, click the box to the left of "I have read and...." to place a check mark in the box
#*The "Install" button in the lower right corner will now be highlighted, click it.
    #*The installation is quick.
#Start Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
#To update/install the ActiveX version for IE '''''only''''', repeat the process, '''<u>but use IE to go to the above website</u>'''.

  • I cant see flash files on youtube, i upgrade flash player but firefox disable it because of security, how can i force anable it

I use firefox 3.5.7. I cant see youtube videos because firefox show me an errror that you must upgrade your flash player, I follow the link and upgrade my flash player successfully, but firefox repeat its error massage in restart.
I use firefox help and see that firefox disable my outdated flash player because of safety. I want to enable that plugin
    I hope to help me

Hi barb, well for one thing the vs of Flash Player is the old one. You need to update to the latest version which is 10.0.42.34.
The first link should be http://www.gourdlamps.com/presentations; that one and the other one work fine for me.
It could be that those two websites have updated to 10.0.42.34.
Here is the Adobe Uninstaller that you download and put on your Desktop http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
This is the Installer link for IE and you will SAVE this to your Desktop
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe
Then go to this thread and follow my instructions, except use the links I gave you. The procedures are the same.
Before you do any of this, take a look at the Uninstall article and the last two NOTES. They are very important when uninstalling IE. The last NOTE: Use the "See Details" If you see the old version of 10.0.32.18 still there, follow those instructions in that NOTE.
Thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/561702?tstart=0  (If you have a problem with the link, look for the thread
"NPSWF32.dll error...." on the first page of the Flash forum.)
Also one other difference is after Adobe confirms you have the 10.0.42.34 installed, you would go to the manage add ons
and look for Shockwave Flash Object.....ActiveX Control......Flash10d.ocx ...... make sure that is listed and it is Enabled.
Java: If you have any old Java entries in your Add/Remove, Remove them via the Add/Remove process, wait until the entry no longer appears and when you are finished, Reboot. You can do this and install the Java before Uninstalling & Installing. Link to Java JRE 6 update 18 : http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
If you have any questions, just post back.
    Thanks,
    eidnolb
