I've just switched from Freehand and I'm going to have a heart attack ...
In two weeks, my tech department is ripping Freehand MX off of my machine and I'll be finally forced to use Illustrator.
I know it is going to take a bit of time to get used to Illustrator after using Freehand for the past 15 years, but if someone out there can help me with two questions, I'd sure appreciate it because the Adobe help files aren't as helpful as I'd hoped. (Adobe: screen captures are a useful visual guide when I can't find the "t-slider" and have no idea what it might look like ...)
1. How do you adjust the tint of a color? Apparently there's supposed to be a "t-slider" in the color palette. Perhaps mine isn't visible for reasons unfathomable, but if I create a color and I want to use 10 percent of that color as a tint, I don't want to whip out a calculator and drag each of the CMYK sliders accordingly. I want to use the feature Freehand had, where you type in "8" in the tint box and voila, you've got 8 percent. InDesign has this feature, so I know Adobe knows about it. Where is the tint slider in Illustrator? (I don't want to change its transparency, I did find that palette easily enough ...)
2. If I paste in a graphic from Freehand into Illustrator, everything comes over on one layer. That's annoying, but understandable. But I can't select parts of the graphic and assign them to new layers, they remain firmly on the first layer they were pasted on unless I copy each item, delete the original, click on my new target layer and paste it on that way -- and then, it doesn't paste perfectly back into place, it moves randomly around the page and I have to reposition it. ARGH! How can you reassign layers without cutting and pasting? Clicking doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?
Many, many thanks in advance from a *very* frustrated designer. If I thought I could secretly reinstall Freehand on my machine without tech hunting it down and ripping it out again, I wouldn't be fretting about such things ...
Doug, you gave me the first giggle I've had since I opened this blasted program, so thanks for that.
I'd love to keep secretly installing Freehand, because you can save your finished work as an Illustrator file, and I could then open it in Illustrator CS3, save the final as a CS3 EPS file and nobody would be the wiser ... except my tech department is prone to periodic look-sees on everyone's machines, there was a massive freakout that went all the way to the publisher's office when they discovered I'd installed .... wait for it .... free fonts on my machine that weren't part of the Adobe package they bought. In the end I had to yank the fonts out, despite showing them the read-me files that came with the fonts that expressly permitted usage in commercial applications. It's a very controlled environment. I now have 12 days left to start converting all my files ...
The good news is I'm pretty sure they're going to hurl the Freehand install disc at my head when they rip it out of my work station, so I can put it on my home iMac, where I'm still running Tiger. Now to convince them to let me work from home ...
Thanks again to everyone for all the advice,
~michelle

I just switched from pc and want to get my HP all in one printer to work with macbook air. Is it just as simple as downloading drivers from HP?
Turn the printer on and plug the printer into the MBA and your mac should install the printer for you (usually any necessary drivers too). I had a printer I used on a pc and I plugged it into my macs usb port and my mac automatically recognized it and took care of everything for me. If you do this and it wont print, then yes go to the HP website the install latest drivers for 10.7
Also, as a new mac user you should find these articles helpful:

I have just switched from windows and bought myself a new mac mini, only had it a few weeks and already getting message not enough free space. Help, surely cant be out of space already
It sounds unlikely of course. But from your question it's hard to tell what might have filled your HDD. Are you constantly on file sharing or has filled the drive with movies?
Best way to tell is to start checking what folders occupy space. "Get Info" for the HDD and its subfolders is a way to start checking where the data in question resides.
And as BGreg say, call Apple support is also a good way to begin with. -
My notes just disappeared from IPOD and Mail. Can anyone help me recover them?
My Notes just disappeared from IPOD and Mail. It may have been after a sync. Can anyone help me recover them?
Looks that something has gone wrong with the reset as you still have Firefox profile folders with a date/time stamp that a reset creates, but are using a regular default profile.<br />
Such a new default profile is likely to have been created because of a problem with the profiles.ini file (if profiles.ini is missing the Firefox will create a new default profile).
Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
You can look at the time stamps or check the name of the JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder.

i have just switched to samsung and i have removed the sim from the iphone however i am still receiving texts rather 'imessage' on the old iphone. how do i make sure all messages only come to my new phone??
You can turn iMessage off on your iPhone. That's relatively easy. Since iMessage is an Apple product/service, I have no idea how a Samsung phone will deal with an incoming one. For that answer you should probably contact Samsung support.

i have just switched from a PC and installing my googlemail account onto my Macbook pro. I can successfully see my calendar and contacts but my mail will not connect. i get an error message - can not connect to the server. Any ideas please?
Neil,
I don't use Apple's Mail client (I use MS Outlook) but setting up your Gmail account should be fairly straightforward. Just make certain that you have your settings correct.
For your incoming server, be sure to use the "map.gmail.com" server, using SSL, using port "993" (usually the default).
For your outgoing server, be sure to use the "smtp.gmail.com" server, override the default port and use port "465" and use SSL to connect and make sure that you enter your email address and password to access the SMTP server.
If you've already set up your account with these settings, you may need to Google "gmail setup apple mail" and find the Google document relating to same.
Good luck,
Clinton

Hi,
Just switched from CS6 to PS CC. I am very comfortable using ACR in previous versions. I liked to use the preview checkbox located in the upper right-hand corner to see before and afters. That checkbox is no longer in my version of PS CC. I see that they have side-by-side, top and bottom and right and left before and after options in the lower right-hand corner in this version. Is there anyway to get that legacy preview checkbox back so that I can use it?Hi Warunicorn,
Thank you very much. I just could not find it on my own. I will have more questions as I get into it.

Put my macbook pro to sleep. When I opened it, the desktop window is small and I can't resize it. All applications now run in the smaller size window. Can't make it fill the screen. Just switched from windows. Thank you.
Check to see if the resolution has been changed in System Preferences.

I have iWeb '08 and just switched from Mobileme to GoDaddy and using Filezilla. I also just upgraded to Lion. Now when I make changes through iWeb it doesn't actually publish to my desktop folder. In fact, it doesn't publish at all but says that it did. How can I make changes in iWeb and publish to a folder?
Choose the destination in the publish settings page as shown in the second example on this page...

I just switched from an HP laptop to a MacAir laptop. I had previously developed a number of powerpoints in which i have video links that require adobe shockwave player. I can no longer play them on the MacAir. Is it safe to download the Adobe player? If not how can I play these videos now?
Adobe players are safe. Go to adobe.com and their site should detect the latest version for your hardware.

I just switched from Aperture to LR and PS CC. My exported images suffer color loss? How do I correct the issue?
I shoot with a Canon 5d Mark III in Adobe 1998 Color Space. I've been exporting JPEGS for web with Color Space sRGB.Does your issue have anything to do with switching from Aperture?
In other words, if you take a new photograph with your camera, and import it in Lightroom, then export it, is there still a problem?
Or is the problem somehow tied to transition from Aperture, or photos migrated from Aperture...?
I'm guessing the reason you brought up Aperture is that you did not have export "color loss" issues in Aperture, like you are having in Lightroom, but since you didn't say... (just want to be sure).

just switched from a charter email to a gmail. i am syncing fine with ipad and iphone. But cannot get email to sync through outlook 2007.
could someone help me?How does iCloud have anything to do with this, you have 2 email accounts, neither of them an iCloud account?
If you want to get Gmail on your iPhone add it to your iPhone. Same goes for Outlook. -
Just switched from Lion to Mountain Lion - Now, when I start my machine, the terminal shows up and runs through it's thing and then the normal screen shows up. This also happens when I shut down as well - the terminal shows up again. I have a MAC running Mountain Lion at work and this doesn't happen so I'm assuming this is not normal.
While my machine still runs, it's annoying and I fear this will lead to problems if I don't address the situation. How do I ge this to stop? Any help would be greatly appreciated. They are being sent to the All Mail folder. The inbox is pretty much unaffected.
I don't want to hide the All Mail folder and forget about it. I am after the messages gone forever. Especially from the All Mail folder.
I'm the kind of person who uses email like sms. I use it to contact people annd delete 95% of the messages after reading. I don't want them archived. I don't want them stored in the All Mail folder. I want them totally gone.
And yes it seems Mail is downloading all my messages over and over. So my question is how to stop the messages being stored/archived and to instead be totally deleted.
In the gmail settings I found:
Auto-Expunge off - Wait for the client to update the server.
When a message is marked as deleted and expunged from the last visible IMAP folder: Immediately delete the message forever. Instead of archiving it like I had set before. I'm not 100% sure if that'll fix the issue I am having. I'm sure you'll be able to tell me if I am on the right track.
And thanks for the quick reply. -
I just switch from a Windows 8 machine to a MacPro and when I try and sync my iPhone 5s for the first time it says that sync will erase everything on my phone because it is still synced to my old computer. Any suggestions?
