I've just upgraded to OS X Lion and can no longer access Power PC documents. Will iWork 08 open them?s
Havig upgraded to OS X lion I have lost access to Power PC documents. Will iWork be able to open them?
Documents are not "PowerPC" or "Intel" or even "AMD"
Depending on what file format the documents are, you may find various programs that can open and edit them. But, without knowing what kind of documents they are, I'd have to guess if any of the iWork suite could open them. Pages can open Word .doc and .docx files. Numbers can open Excel .xls and .xlsx files. Keynote can open Powerpoint .ppt .pptx files. I don't know if they can open Appleworks documents, but I think I've seen positive remarks about that.

I just upgraded to Mac OSX Lion and can't attach documents to my hotmail. Can anyone help?
Hi there,
Over the last few days, this issue has been driving me up the wall too!
I downloaded Lion OS a few months ago, but it was only until a few days ago did i attempt to logon to Hotmail to check my account & send an email with an attachment.
Normally i use the MAC Mail app, which is synchronised to my hotmail account.
Anyway, I'm not sure whether the Lion OS is the root cause of the issue, however after much digging around on various forums - the issue for me was resolved by downloading the latest version of Microsoft Silverlight 5 (www.microsoft.com/silverlight). Its a free download.... -

I've upgraded to Lion and can no longer access Microsoft Word files. HELP!

Thanks for your efforts,

Quark XPress 8 has a few of those PPC only tools, too. Like they they forgot to update them or something.
They were already at v9 when Lion came out and decided that official support would be for v9 only; see here.
According to this, the only thing PPC in v9 and v8 are video encoding for SWF export -- looks like an XTension according to System Profiler. Given their position of not officially supporting v8.x in Lion, that will probably always remain broken in v8. I use v8.5.1 in Lion; works fine for me -- I don't do any SWF exporting.
I have a few other things on my MBP, recently upgraded to Lion; I upgraded just about every app to the latest versions with exception of Quark. The only other PPC things besied that XTension are some scripts from Adobe Illustrator CS5.1, which got installed with CS 5.5. I guess Adobe forgot to upgrade those. No biggie, I never use them. -
All my mail , contacts can no longer be opened as Entourage is a PPC app.
What do I do to recover contacts and migrate to Apple mail.
Would really appreciate help. Very important to meDownload the 30 day trial of Office 2011 from Microsoft. You'll be able to open all your stuff from the antiquated version of Office and then move the info to Apple Mail.

I just upgraded to OS X Lion and now I can't open the application Adobe ImageReady CS because PowerPC applications are no longer supported. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
There is no fix. It simply means that the software is outdated. Adobe would need to release a newer non-PPC version that supports Lion. They may have done that already, I don't know.

When I upgraded my iMac to Lion I can no longer connect the iPad 2 to WiFi. It gives me a message unable to search for WiFi. Before the upgrade to Lion it worked fine. What gives?
Could there be a setting I need to adjust in the iPad2? When I try to turn on WiFi and enter the name of the WiFi that I have established, including the security type and the password, I get the message "Could not scan for wireless networks." Is there a setting in iCloud or other location that needs to be changed?

HT5225 I just upgraded to OS X Lion, and now I can't open my Quicken!!!
I just upgraded to OS X Lion 10.7.3 and now it's telling me I can't open the application Quicken anymore, because PowerPC aplications are no longer supported! I sincerely hope someone knows how to resolve this. I'm in big trouble! I get the same message when I try to open Excel, Word, and a game called Mah Jong. Thank you!
The Quicken issue has been a hot topic in the Quicken forum as well as many others. Intuit did not provided an updated Quicken when Lion came out. I believe that within the past month Intuit has announced a version that does work in Lion, I looked into it, but was not impressed; there were some technical issues that prevent me from using it (don't recall the details though). Fortunately, I found out about the Quicken mess when Lion came out, and like many users, migrated the quicken data files over to a common format that could be imported into a number of new financial apps like iBank. Intuit lost a lot of Mac users over this.
As for Excel and Word, you have to buy Microsoft's newest version of Office on Mac to be compatible. -
Have been using Aperture 3.1.3 with no problems. Importing from a Nikon D80 (RAW & JPEG), Casio (.MOV) and Flip (.mp4). Could import and view all videos without issue prior to Lion upgrade. After Lion installation, can no longer import .mov files (get "file not supported" error) or even view any .mov or .mp4 files currently in library (even though thumbnail is present). Can watch the .mov files directly on my camera using Quicktime in Finder but can't even drag & drop that file into Aperture. Anybody else having similar problems?
Still no resolution and Geniuses at store could not assist. Unfortunately, it looks like not all the applications were ready to support the Lion operating system. We could not import any .mov files, could no longer view any .mov files already in my Aperture library and could not email any .mov files. Totally frustrated. Use Aperture almost daily and can't lose the video functionality. Was also running dog-slow. Constantly looking at the spinning wheel. Geniuses suggested that I wipe out hard drive and reinstall Snow Leopard. Had full backup on external drive with Time Machine.
Not an easy process though...had to reinstall several times (at 5 hours each time) because I continued to have issues. Finally figured out that I needed to delete every backup file from Time Machine on external drive from the date I installed Lion because some of the hidden files were still migrating back to Snow Leopard.
I had to:
1. Delete all time machine backup files from date/time of Lion installation forward
2. Do "clean" installation of Snow Leopard (wiped hard drive using disk utility and booted with Snow Leopard disc)
3. Chose option to reinstall from backup off Time Machine which eventually got me back to Snow Leopard desktop
4. Deleted Aperture program and reinstalled (I had to install Aperture 2 and then install Aperture 3 upgrade.
5. Reinstalled iLife apps
5. Applied all Apple updates available (again this took a few hours because there were several updates from Snow Leopard's original release plus Aperture 3 and other application updates)
Still doing some tweaking on some of my other apps but got everything back to where I originally was. Now plan to wait on a few version updates from Lion before reinstalling.
I am one of Apple's biggest fans, but was very disappointed in the fact that I lost functionality in one of their own pieces of software (which I use the most!) by installing Lion. -
Following upgrade to 34.05, can no longer access web pages of the SAN management interface, the airco system, the vSphere Web Client, etc. All still work in Chrome.
The airco system gives an error:
Firefox cannot guarantee the safety of your data on 10.32.16.50 because it uses SSLv3, a broken security protocol.
Advanced info: ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap
The SAN management interface and vSphere Web Clients display an empty page. Not sure whether these also have problems due to SSLv3.
I understand you wanting to be cautious, but I seriously doubt I need to face an attack from our SAN. Please, at least give us an option to connect regardless.hello, ssl 3.0 is disabled in firefox versions 34 & upwards by default - if you want to re-enable it you can do that like this which will make you vulnerable to the recently published poodle attack though:
enter '''about:config''' into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''security.tls.version.min'''. double-click it, change its value to '''0''' and restart the browser.

On a recent upgrade I can no longer access some Pages documents\
After an OS X update combined and then a Pages update I am no longer able to access through Pages many of my documents; any ideas out there?
You have us just guessing without any details, but chances are you updated to Pages 5.5.2 and can no longer open Pages '08 or earlier files.
You need to either export the files from Pages '08 to Word .docx or .txt files and open those in Pages 5.5.2.
Apple has failed to maintain much backwards compatibility.
Usually the older versions will still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
