I recently moved and in the process have lost my Logic Pro 7 XKkey USB dongle Can somebody please tell me the procedure for replacing it?

The biggest question here is, do you have receipts of your purchase or some other proof that you are a Logic Pro owner? If so, this should be easy.
I've been told by others that have lost/damaged their keys that Apple will only charge $89 plus tax and shipping for a new key, but only if you can prove you are the rightful owner of the software. If you bought it from Apple directly, there may be records of your purchase. However, the best proof will be a receipt or invoice that you retained.

Hey Rickstertw,
I think there are two ways to do this. Open Logic Pro, then in the menu tab, click on Logic Pro in the upper left hand corner, then choose About Logic Pro. Another window will come up, and you should be able to see the serial number just below your name under "Licensed to" - that is, presuming this is a licensed to you copy! :-)
If for some reason it doesn't come up there and you registered the product with Apple, then call the support number and if you can verify your information with them, they should be able to give it to you.

Thank you very much for your answer! I have 2 Apple ID, and I have tried both of them and the problem continues. I founf several peolpe with the same problem in apple communities foruns and that really seems that there is some problem. I addded the links for 2 of those discussions.

Grrrrr Logic Pro won't update & What is up with my Tape Delay!!!!!

Right, i'm finding posting on this Forum intensely annoying already!!!
Anyway, can anyone tell me why when i try and update from Logic Pro 7.1 to 7.1.1 it won't let me do it? .....i download it....unstuff it .....and when i click to launch it's says it doesn't recognizea valid version of Logic Pro....yet updating to 7.1 was no problem.
Also, my Tape Delay will not delay consistently ....as the song position indicator passes a region with a tape delay insert ....there's no delay ...then suddenly it kicks in ...out of time/sync with the rest of the song .....it's driving me up the ******* wall!
no seems to have the same problem .....surely its not processing power although have realised that Apple did not make Logic to run on a normal or dual G4 which i'm currently running

the other thing re your upgrade problem is: what exactly is the error message? is it totally telling you that it cannot find a logic to upgrade, period? or is it saying that it has found a more recent version already installed? if the latter, you can ignore the error message and just go ahead and install.. the error message is bogus.
if not.. then I'm not sure what to suggest. all I know is that the app has to be left as is, and where it is, not even so much as put inside a little folder within the apps folder, which some people do when organising their apps.
I had this with a friend who was freaking out at the updater not working.. turns out he'd renamed the app 'Logic Pro 7.1', as he was accustomed to adding the version number to app icons since back on OS9. changed it back to Logic Pro and it went fine.
another thing to do is tr repairing your permissions.. which I presume you have been doing religiously after every software install like a good UNIX boy?

Hi there Eriksimon, I am happy to report that the files were found and my project is back to its original form and saved in the desktop. I have learned a few valuable lessons in the last 3 days of this mess. First, save your project in a master file and leave it alone. Second, do not revert to the panik click mode. Thirdly and most important, call Apple to the rescue... I spoke with Larry today somewhere in Texas and he helped me find the files and restore my project. I have still lots to learn about managing my files but I will get there... I the meantime all I wanna do is compose music. have a great weekend!!!

Logic pro 7 install dvds

I have lost my logic pro 7 install dvds,( just replaced hard drive few days ago). is there anyone would like to lend yours to me? I am in sw2, london.
I have my key and receipt still, to replace them from Logic, it takes two weeks and a hundred q, I bought Logic pro 8 today( only £130), then my G4 power book doesn't have enough memory, because I bought my mac three years ago, my memory card is out of stock...

Easiest solution: Change your source for ram to a retailer that has it in stock. It's easy to get. Probably more so than install discs.

Error Message when installing Logic Pro 9

Just tried loading Logic Pro 9 on my new Mac and it gives the following error message:
'You can't use this version of the application Logic Pro with this version on Mac OS X.
You have Logic Pro 9.1.1'
What should I do?

Logic Pro not updating to v. 9.1.8

Hello,
I've recently updated to Mavericks and noticed that Logic Pro screen turns black as the playhead moves. I have been told that this is because my current Logic Pro version, which is 9.1.6. is not compatible with Mavericks. I have been trying to update to v. 9.1.8. of Logic ever since but kept recieving Error 1004 at the app store. I have tried logging out and back in, tried rebooting my iMac and also tried to delete Logic as a whole and redownload it but noticed that Logic Pro 9 is not even available on the Emirati App store. The only one being offered is Logic Pro X. Please suggest what i must do to solve this issue.

If you did buy it via the Mac App Store then...
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy/paste: ~/Library/Cookies
Click Go then move the com.apple.appstore.cookies and com.apple.appstore.plist files from the Cookies folder to the Trash.
Type or copy/paste: ~/Library/Preferences
Click Go then move the com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
Now launch the mac App Store and check under the Purchase tab and/or update tab
Logic Pro 9 isn't sold any longer but if you previously bought it via the Mac App Store it will continue to be available to you under the Purchase tab so long as you are signed in using the same Apple ID you bought it with originally.
If it's under the Purchase tab you should now be able to update it.. as normal..

I didn't use it, although it looks great, I went right into the reference manual. I did look at the tutorial song, which was nice cause it gave me some hands on experience with moving things around

Logic is different that other DAW's. Logic's way of doing things may seem real strange to someone who came from using another program. as I said before, spend more time on things that are only found in Logic, like the environment. It really frightens some people.
Many of the questions here in this forum are midi related. people seem to be having a real hard time making midi work in Logic. The manual could be more detailed in explaining midi communication and how the environment is the heart of all of this

there are a few errors, so it is frustrating when you are following the manual but not achieving your goal. For example, page 112 says:

If you save your icons in the root directory—/Library/Application Support/Logic/Logic Resources/Icons—the icons are valid for all users. If icons with identical numbers exist in both folders, the icons found in the user folder have priority.
But this is not the case, they actually go in /Library/Application Support/Logic/images/Icons
there was a couple other mistakes like this too, but i can't remember right now

If you wanted to get into doing video tutorial, that would be cool. there is a web site called atomic learning http://www.atomiclearning.com/ they have quicktime video tutorials for a ton of different software applications, some apple, and for a flat fee of 79.99 for a year you can spend as much time as you like learning all of the software applications. I may sign up to learn Web design, and maybe final cut pro. Apple could do something like that for all of the apple software and do it much better I would think, and you guys would make a fortune. well I guess not compared to the fortune you are already making

Mainstage still packaged with Logic Pro?

So I wanted to get the jam packs to use in garageband but it turns out they're all in Mainstage 2 now. I am planning on upgrading to logic in a year or so and I thought mainstage came packaged with it. Do you have to purchase them separately now? Logic express used to be $199 and Logic Pro was $499. What happened to that? Are all the plugins and third party effects gone now? What is going on?

Mainstage is no longer packaged with Logic Pro.
It can be downloaded separately (with all of its JamPacky goodness) for $29.99.
Logic Express was cancelled as Logic Pro now costs what Logic Express used to cost: $199.

Does the Logic Pro 7.2 Crossgrade Include the Entire Logic Installer?

I've just relocated from the USA to Europe and am having my studio equipment shipped here with my G5 Dual 2.0 and all software (including Logic Pro 7.1). What was supposed to take 1 week to ship has now changed to 6 weeks (It's a long story). This means that I will be without Logic on a decent machine until the end of May!!!
I'm thinking about purchasing a new MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo and the $50 Logic 7.2 Crossgrade, so that I can still work until my studio equipment arrives. I do have my Logic XS key and my i-Lok (for various 3rd party plugins) with me here in Europe. Problem is - my Logic Pro install DVDs won't be here until the end of May.
Can I do a full installation of Logic Pro with just the 7.2 Crossgrade disc(s)?
If this is not possible, can I use the Migration Assistant built into OS X to transfer Logic from my old G4/867 powerbook I have with me, then use the 7.2 crossgrade to make it useable on the new Macbook Pro that I purchase?
I'd rather do a clean install of Logic Pro from the Crossgrade disc(s) if possible, as there's a bunch of junk I don't want to transfer over from my old Powerbook to the new MBP.

O.K. I own Logic Pro 7.0.0 (academic), but never wanted to installed it until i got my MacPro, so I bought the Crossgrade. Now that i want to install it Logic is asking me for my activation code, which i don't find anywhere (I don't even remember if it came with the package).
First of all I don't even know if my crossgrade actually works with my academic Xkey (so that is why it is asking me for the activation code) or I should try to contact Apple to get a new activation code.

How can I use my Dx7 as a MIDI controller for Logic Pro 9? I'm using MIDI/USB cable but Dx7 doesn't appear in the 'set-up' list, what am I doing wrong?

DX7 2 FD connected to my laptop with a MIDI/USB cable
When I click the 'scan all models' search in the 'Control Surfaces Set Up' there is no Yamaha DX7 in the list so how can I make Logic 'see' the DX7?

As Colin pointed out, you have to look first in the Audio MIDI Setup. If your MIDI Device doesn't show up there, then Logic cannot see it either (unless you are using Logic Remote on your iPad to play over Wi-Fi).
I'm curious about the "MIDI/USB cable you mention. If the DX7 has a standard 5-pin DIN MIDI out jack, then you have to connect that to a MIDI Interface first that converts the MIDI signal to send it over the USB jack out. Please note that you would see the MIDI Interface in the Audio MIDI Setup app and not the DX7 itself. Also, in Logic you would see the MIDI Interface in the Environment as a valid MIDI input device.

Can Logic Pro X use a mic on a Duet and USB at the same time?

Seems that it's either or. When it asks where you are getting your microphone from, it's not a per track basis. It did recognize the USB mic when I plugged it in but changed the setting and the mic off the Duet was gone.
(Trying to record a podcast in latest Logic Pro X.)

You have to use apple's audio/midi utility to create an aggregate device from the mike and the duet, and then select that as logic's audio interface
