I've Lost My Stereo Out Channel Strip

Some how I've lost my stereo out channel strip and can no longer hear my tracks. I see the levels moving when I play. I no longer see the vertical seconds lines in my main work area, nor can I deselect a track by touching the gray background. On the channel viewer on far left at the very bottom is a speaker with red X and "no out" marking. Using Logic Express. What wrong button did I push ? Here is a screen shot http://galleries.tomsalyer.com/picture%201.png Thanks in advance.

Ok, replaced the strip, thanks ! Also, somehow I had managed to unclick the " Input 1-2 " and "Stereo Out" buttons on all six track's channel strips, and once
I fixed those, I now can hear my output again.Don't know how I messed up, but will be careful in future ... they say you can't teach an old photographer new tricks, but am determined to learn audio

  • LP 9 NOT DISPLAYING EQ or INSERTS ON OUTPUT CHANNEL STRIPS

This is odd: Logic is not displaying EQ or Inserts on some of the Stereo Output Channel Strips. Instead of "Output 1 - 2" I have a "Master Output" with no EQ or Inserts. When I check the other stereo output strips I find that only one (output 7-8) is displaying properly. How can I fix this?
    Thanks!

The output is turned on, yes. This is a session I did in Logic Pro 7 and opened in LP9. Again, as I said, OUTPUT 3-4, 5-6 also do not show up properly. Only Output 7-8 shows up w/EQ and Inserts showing.
I've opened several other LP7 sessions in LP9 and not had this problem. LP9 refuses to see the output (1-2) correctly.
When I turn off "Master" in the mixer window (upper right corner buttons), nothing changes. When I turn off "Outputs", the Master disappears.

  • Lost channel strips

I'm using Logic Studio 8, mostly working with software instruments.  I just opened one of my project files, and it appears that many of my channel strips and software instrument settings have been lost.  A few of the channel strips, and a few of the software instrument settings are still correct, but most of them have switched to apparently random settings.  Any ideas about this?  Please help!

I'm using v. 2.2.2, but when I select the volume pedal at the concert level to call up the Screen Control Inspector, everything on the Attributes tab is grayed out, disabled.  I'm going to guess that is because the pedal is unmapped at that level.  When I go to the set level of an oft-used set and choose the pedal, the Attributes tabs items are not disabled, supposedly because I have the controller set for Block (because I use sliders to control volume here, not the pedal, and didn't want it messing things up).
In summary, it appears that in order to do what you have suggested and what lifenoise suggested -- "You can set the preferences at the concert level and override the parent mapping on a patch by patch basis" -- I have to, at the concert level, do something with a particular controller other than leave it unmapped.  Even if I have it set for Block at the concert level, a bit of playing with this just now shows that I can override the blocking at the set level.
Thanks fellows.  I suppose that wraps up this thread unless you have some additional feedback.

  • LP8: "Create New Auxilliary Channel Strips" won't create stereo

I have recently reloaded Logic Pro v8.0.2 onto a newly reformatted drive running OSX 10.5.8. I have opened a previous session, and brought Logic back out of Universal Track Mode. My mix busses had been converted to mono, so I deleted them and am attempting to recreate them. I'm having trouble creating stereo Aux channels to serve as stereo Bus channels.  I try:
Mixer > Options > Create New Auxilliary Channel Strips
    I choose these options:
    Format: Stereo
Input: Bus 3-4 (for example), "Ascending" is checked
    Output: Output 1-2
Upon clicking "Create" I get a mono track. In this example, a channel named Aux 3 which will only accept a mono input. I can therefore assign Bus 3 as the input on this Aux channel, but not Bus 3-4. There's no mono or stereo link-rings icon in the lower left of the Aux strip for me to toggle between stereo and mono.
Could someone explain what I'm doing wrong? Happy new year, all. - Jeff

I've got Core Audio going, and my interface is MOTU 828 mkII. My typical workflow has been with Universal Track Mode (UTM) deactivated. What I have seen is that when UTM is enabled on my sessions, the Aux channels switch from stereo to mono with the fader rotated all the way to the left.
That's what I saw when opening my session under the re-installed Logic, which defaulted to UTM enabled. So, I disabled UTM. But now, when creating new Aux strips, I get mono channels even when requesting stereo channels.
Also - typically, when I enable a bus send on an audio channel, the corresponding bus channel would appear in my Mixer. Now, that's not happening.
Thanks for your feedback thus far, Erik. - j

  • Mono outs in channel strip possible?

i have created a couple of mono output channels in my audio mixer, but they are still showing up as stereo channels in the channel strip. i want to be able to set tracks to output to mono channels 5 OR 6, not stereo channel 5-6.

that's what i thought but then i only got it out of the left channel. on second glance i still had my hardware mixer channels panned hard left and right setup for my old card.......oops.
new computer + new interface + new sequencer = utter chaos.

  • Channel strip "settings" for aux or main out  ... not showing in Library

    Hi Guys
One of the things I love about the "settings" box at the top of each audio channel is that you can click on it, and then use the Library list on the right of the screen to pick through the settings and even try them out in real time...
I want to do the same thing for some of my Aux channels or even sometimes the Main Out channel, but there doesn't seem to be a way of clicking on the "settings" button for these channels and seeing what's available for them in the Library.
Does anyone know what I'm missing here? At the moment I seem to have to HOLD the settings button, and then choose from the category and then choose the effect. Which is fine if you know what you're looking for, but if you want to just go through various effects and try them while the song plays, this is kind of tedious.
If you can shed light on this, that would be awesome!
    Cheers,
    Mike
PS - 8 days in to my switch from Cubase 4 to Logic 8 and the initial feeling of "what have I done? I feel lost, bring back Cubase" has turned into "Why didn't I do this sooner?!"... Logic is AMAZING! And Cubase now seems so clumsy...

    Hey Jorge,
Thanks for the reply - yep, it's cool to be able to save strip settings for aux strips and for the main out as well, to make "my" sound and keep my songs consistent.
However there are some really great pre-set settings for these strips. They can be accessed the "slow" way by holding the "Setting" box at the top of the strip, and then choosing a category and from there a preset.
But I really want to be able to go through these preset strips quickly by using the Library... you can do this for normal audio channels, and it's great to say be able to click through "bass" presets one after the other while your bass audio track is playing...
But for the aux and settings strips, I can't get the "settings" to show up as a list in the Library...
Does anyone know how this is done?!
    Cheers and thanks,
    Mike

  • Channel Strips and PreAmps; Do I need one?

I’ve been using a Rode NT1-A to record both my acoustic guitar and my Fender Princeton Amp with my Electric Guitar. I have the mic going straight into my PRESONUS FIRE BOX interface and from there to the iMac. Sometimes with the acoustic guitar I run 2 mics for a stereo sound.
This is my first set up for recording into a computer and I’m happy. For the most part I think that I get a pretty darn good sound. Keep in mind that I’m still learning about good mic placement and EQ etc…
I’ve been seeing quite a bit of news about other types of external microphone pre amps and “channel strips”. Some of them are just “pre-amps” others have EQ and or Compression by companies like ART, Presounus, Focusright etc..
Am I missing something sound wise with the Mic / FireBox / Computer chain? Would I notice much of an improvement in my sound if I ran the mic through one of these?
My budget is on the lower side as you may have guessed based on the price of my mic and my interface (about $300 each). Any ideas on a PreAmp / Channel Strip to check out?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   1.5 gigs ram

    OK.........
If I were to say get a "channel strip" unit, would I then take the outputs into the "microphone" inputs of my Presonus FireBox or should I use the "line" inputs? In this way I think that I would be using 2 pre-amps at the same time; the "channel strip" and the "firebox".
OR is there need to bypass the "pre-amp" section of the Firebox and just use it as a analoge to digital interface?
    Best,
    Morris

  • Create New Auxilliary Channel Strip in Logic X ? Taken Away ?

Using create new channel strip setting seems to have been removed or is it a bug ? I took the plunge only to find that a lot has changed in the new DAW. I am particularly distressed that one of the best features on Logic 9 has been removed or just DOES NOT WORK. When this feater used to allow me to create multiple AUX channels with the same BUS or have them ascend or descend. This does not seem to be the case anymore. Is anyone out there having the same issue ? In X it just spits out a channel which it should not do . It should allow you to say how many channels and where you want them routed. This seems like a backwards more for Logic. Very dissapointed.

  • Stereo Out -mono/stereo - Input 1/2-

I've got a couple of projects open and just need some advice on something that I've just noticed.
On the channel strip it has.
    Input 1
    Stereo Out
    Two independent columns
    Mono circle
Okay, I thought that because the the mono circle is there, there would be one single fader gauge/column?
When I press the circle to get to get the double circle stereo, the gauge itself doesn't change, but stays the same. What changes is the Input 1 to Input 1 -2. I would have thought the gauge would change in accordance with whether it be mono or stereo? Or does the Input change from 1 to 1 -2, represent this?
    Likewise, on another channel strip
    Input 1-2
    Stereo Out
    Single column
    Stereo double circle
When I click the double circles the gauge just stays as it is (single column) whether it be mono or stereo circles. the input changes from Input 1 (mono) to Input 1-2 (stereo).
I think I'm just confused by this.
Any help would be great help.

No, only if the strip also has a mono output.
When I press the circle to get to get the double circle stereo, the gauge itself doesn't change, but stays the same. What changes is the Input 1 to Input 1 -2. No, it has to do with the complete signal flow. Mono in>mono out: single gauge. anything in, stereo out: double gauge.
    Likewise, on another channel strip
    Input 1-2
    Stereo Out
    Single column

That is because it is confusing. It would be Logical and Reasonable if the gauge doubled up in that scenario. The channel strip has no inserts on it?
Any help would be great help.
I am not sure if this is any help and therefore great help. I'll check out what I just said (I am not completely sure) in L9 later.

  • EVP88 Channel Strip for Babylon Sisters?

I'm looking for a EVP88 patch or a Channel Strip with as close as possible Rhodes sound used on Babylon Sisters by Steely Dan....
"Classic Suitcase Mk I" with some adjustments on EQ and chorus comes close, but still lack something. Hard for me to pinpoint what's missing....
Anyone got a customized Channel Strip to share? Thanks.

Having been an owner of a few real Fender Rhodes over my years & considering that Steely Dan used the real thing on that Gaucho album, the EVP88 is just eh' ok & sort of sterile in comparison. What I don't think you'll get out of the EVP88, is that "spank" or "bite" character that a real Rhodes with real steel tines has when you wack the keys.
The Babylon Sister Rhodes sounds like a slow stereo phaser was possibly used, as well as a slow tremlo L.R. panning. Sounds like Fagen used an 88key suitcase model on Gaucho.
There are other 3rd party sample libraries out there specifically dedicated to the Fender Rhodes, that will come much closer to the real thing, than the EVP88 can do.. of which isn't even sample based, but a physical model plug. A real high quality Rhodes sample based library will come much closer to the real thing, than a physical model plug such as the EVP88.

  • Odd stuff - recording delay - automatic channel Strip changes

Recently I upgraded my interface from a MOTU 828MKII, to a Metric Halo 2882. I also upgraded from Logic 8 to 9. The problem is, I did this in the middle of a project. This project was/is just a test of a whole new upgrade to my home studio including some preamps/mics/interface/acoustic treatment/etc. Up to this point I mainly recorded my own stuff (5yrs), no big deal. But I'm thinking of moving this into a part time gig. So I asked a some friends if they'd be interested in free recording as guinea pigs.
The first day (Saturday) we tracked drums into the MOTU on Logic 8, as my Metric Halo interface hadn't arrived yet. Everything went good. That Monday, my Metric Halo arrived. I switched out the MOTU, and had the 2882 up and running by Wednesday. Thursday, I installed Logic 9 and updated to 9.1. I had all weekend to work though some of the new stuff, and it all sounded good.
By Monday I had the guitar/singer come by to lay down the rhythm guitar. When we recorded it, with the same settings as in the previous session, although with Logic 8 and a Motu interface, the guitar was around 246 samples late. I adjusted the Recording Delay ahead 246 samples, and it made it slower. I adjusted back 246, still not right. So we called the session.
I've scoured forums, and the only info I can find is plugin latency, and I/O buffer settings. I never had any issue with the MOTU as far as recording delay goes. I had latency issues, but nothing that actually recorded. It was my understanding that, the I/O buffer only affects the monitoring latency, everything "goes to tape" correctly though. I've spent the last 4-5 days trying to figure this out. If I start a new project with the 2882, everything syncs up great, no delay at all. But if I try to add to any project that was started with the MOTU, and Logic 8, I get a recorded delay.
The frustrating part of this is, last night, I updated Logic to 9.1.1, and recorded a loopback click. It worked fine. No delay at all. I tested a bass through the same recording chain I used before, and it was perfect too. I'm not sure if this was a fix in the new update, or I have some other instability thing going on. Any Ideas there?
Also, after updating last night I had a weird problem with plugins that were disabled, suddenly re-engaging. It seemed as though when I would do any changes in the MIO Console, I would come back to Logic, and random plugins would be re-enabled. I'll check tonight if this is repeatable, but last night it was a bother. I also had a Focusrite LiquiMix running at the same time. Maybe this was causing a problem. It did seem to only affect the channel strips that the LiquidMix inserts were on.
    Thanks,
    Erik

Thanks very much; I'm still perplexed though. You're right, the "mono->stereo" plug-ins yield stereo effects for the guitar; but I'm referring to the pre-assembled "sets" of plug-ins that are accessed by clicking on the word "inserts" (above the various slots for plug-ins). When you click on this word, all sorts of effects-sets are offered: for drums, vocals, pianos, guitars, etc. I'm referring to one for "electric guitar" (under "distorted guitar") called "Angus on SG + MS 1959" (though this is true of the other effects in this same category for electric guitar). Here's why things don't make sense to me: 1) since this effects-set ("Angus...") works just fine if it's applied AFTER I've recorded the guitar dry, why should it NOT work when I'm recording with the effect? I.e., I don't need a special double guitar plug for my Firepod for the effect to work on the signal it HAS recorded; so why should the special double plug be necessary WHILE recording? Meanwhile, 2) given that this is a GUITAR effect (Angus Young playing his Gibson SG through a 1959 Marshall Stack), and guitars always have mono output, then how can it be that Logic, by design, should require users to buy a special stereo plug when using effect-sets specifically designed for guitar? .... That's why I'm perplexed. I do think your two suggestions will work; but it just seems impossible to me that Logic is actually designed to work in this way -- at least not on purpose. On the other hand, I'm a newbie, and I may be missing something that's obvious. Sure would appreciate hearing whether it seems to people that there's a problem with my set-up (or with Logic), or whether the physical stereo-plug solution is actually a well-known practice that I am simply not familiar with. Many thanks!
You have recorded only one chanel on a stereo track.
Use a second input on your firepod or use mono ->
stereo plugins on a mono track to hear them in stereo.

  • Apple midi loops load incorect channel strip

when i preview a midi apple loop in the loop browser it sounds fine, but when i drag it onto an inst. channel it loads up all the wrong channel strip info. it will load the Garage band sampler but the correct samples do not load. I have used Redmatica's EXS manager and the Inst. are connected to the correct samples, and still no luck. even if i go into the EXS24 and try to load the Garage band Inst it does nothing (not even a warning saying it cant find samples) it stays unloaded. this has mainly been the drums from jam pack 2. I have reinstalled them twice. initialized my drive and reinstalled everything .
has anyone experienced something like this?

Good question with a complex answer. Let's say you have three synths you want to layer together, EXS24, ES1 and ES2. On one of those tracks in your arrange window, drop in your midi arrangement, for this example we'll say it's the EXS24. You'll notice a "plug" on the top right corner of the channel strips. Locate the plug on the EXS 24, click + hold and drag this plug to the ES1. Now repeat the process for the ES1 to the ES2. You have now changed all the instruments together, and they will respond to the the midi input from the base synth, i.e. the EXS 24.
To make this easier, it may help you to create a new layer in the environment window and then place the channel strips for those instruments on this layer. This will keep things organized for your workflow, but it's entirely optional. Hope this helps. Check out macprovideo.com for more environment + midi tricks.

  • All of a sudden, I can no longer add any plugins to any channel strips? And when I click on an existing plugin to edit, it disappears off the channel strip?

I am running Logic express 9 on a 2008 Macbook, (non pro).  Anyhow, logic has always seemed to work great for me.  However, last week I opened up one of many existing projects, (I'm in sample editor).  When I went to add a new plugin to one of the channel strips it would not allow me to.  Also, if I click on any plugin that already exists on the channel strip it dissapears? The strange thing that also happens weather I click to add a new plugin or click on an already existing plugin, is both the  "repeat section" and "crop", buttons from the above menu (in sample editor), the actual buttons become a faded image,(as far as the actual font and images of the buttons).  As soon as I am done clicking to add a plugin on the channel strip, both buttons from the menu  go back to looking normal like all of the other choices from that menu?  I really don't get it?  All I want to do is to be able to add plugins as well as edit or change plugins again. Any thoughts as to why I can no longer add any new plugins to any channel strips?  And why any existing plugins disappear from the channel strip when I click on it?  Why the "repeat section", and "Crop", buttons from the menu above fade in and out when I try clicking on the channel strip is very strange? I don't mind that I just want to be able to add or edit plugins again.  I did do some document cleaning up last week as my memory was getting low.  I then emptied out my trash bin.  I'm hoping I didn't accidentally delete some kind of Logic component?  Why can't I add or edit plugins anymore?  Anyone ever run across this?
    Thanks,
    Mike.

    Mike,
Are any of your other applications going wonky, or is it just Logic?
I'm afraid I've never heard of this particular problem before, but if it were happening to me the first thing I would do is delete my "com.apple.logic.express.plist" file in Library>Preferences, then repair permissions in Disc Utility, and finally restart my computer.  Then I would launch Logic and see if the problem has been corrected.  It's amazing how much these two steps can accomplish.
If that doesn't resolve the issue I would launch Logic and go to Preferences>Audio Units Manager to see if all my plug-ins are properly validated.

  • Logic Channel Strip Instruments no longer open after Logic 8 upgrade

I upgraded Logic 8.0 to 8.0.1 and now none of the preset Logic Channel strip instruments will open. I can open all of the instruments on their own no problem. But if I select something from one of their saved presets or an instrument that I've saved, it does nothing, just hangs. There's no beach ball or logic not responding. When you do force quit, it quits logic and then upon a restart of the system, the system just freezes too. This is really frustrating because I've save a lot of my own instruments and can't get to them now. This happen in a previous session and a new session started from scratch with the upgrade. I can access all of my saved audio channel strips. Has anyone encountered this? One more bit of frustration and impediment to my work flow. Thanks, Jeff.

I've also trouble with that Channel Strips. I've saved and closed a Song with some Mastering-Plugs in the Output 1-2 ( also Stereo Sum ) and after I reloaded that song, there wasn't no Plug anymore. So all my work was gone and I am also very frustrated.
The next big Problem is working with folders. I've in most of my songs folder of MIDI and Singers and when I am working with this songs on Logic 8, I got many failure in the view of waveforms and regions.
Sometimes regions doesn't play anymore when I switched between folders in the song. That nervs me up the whole time ...
Maybe someone can help or can tell me that's why we get ProKit 4.5

  • Re: Shared Channel Strip settings, Plug-in settings...

    Hi all,
Has anyone gotten into shared Channel Strip settings and Plug-in settings? I read that there are multiple ways of doing this (bonjour). Just wondering if there are any good places on the net that anyone knows of.
I know it's always best to make settings to work with whatever material you're working on but I would like to hear/see what others are doing or to have a point of reference. Plus, I wouldn’t mind getting a good slap back delay. Or some solid synth leads...

    Hey Jorge,
Thanks for the reply - yep, it's cool to be able to save strip settings for aux strips and for the main out as well, to make "my" sound and keep my songs consistent.
    Cheers and thanks,
    Mike
