I've lost the 5 months of received mail since Tiger Upgrade!

Hi. Can anyone help??!
I managed to successfully upgrade from 10.3.9 to 10.4.7 today, finally!!
However, I've found one major blip...Since I've opened Mail 2.1 it seems to have lost ALL THE EMAILs I've received since the 17th MARCH of this year. This is pretty disastrous because that includes some fairly important emails (confirmations, passwords etc) !!
I've tried 'Rebuild' - but naturally it didn't work. Nor did 'Import mailbox' and clicking 'old OSX Accounts'.
My only saving grace may be this..... before I upgraded to Tiger I 'Carbon Copied' the entire hard disk in 10.3.9 to my new 160gb external HD. Can I retreive it all from there somehow? Hope someone can help.
Yours with bitten nails

Hi Simon.
This is a known issue. The conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken. Take a look at the following thread to better understand the problem:
Help! "You need to take this account online in order to download it."
In particular, you may want to take a look at the following article (also referenced in that thread) to learn what you might have done before migrating to minimize the risk of this happening, and what you may do after fixing the problem to avoid similar issues from happening in the future. DON'T do now what the article suggests, though, as that would make things worse in the current situation:
Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
More specifically, if this is a POP account, the following procedure should allow you to fix the Inbox problems:
1. Quit Mail.
2. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
3. Create a new folder on the Desktop and name it however you wish (e.g. Inbox Old). It doesn't need to have an .mbox extension.
4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/.
5. Move the files mbox and Incoming_Mail out of INBOX.mbox, into the Inbox Old folder just created on the Desktop. These files contain all the messages that were in the mailbox before the upgrade to Tiger, and maybe even some messages that had been deleted. mbox is the most important. Incoming_Mail may or may not be present.
6. Move any strangely-named Messages-XXXXXX folder to the Desktop (not into the Inbox Old folder). These folders are to be deleted after fixing the problem. They are temporary folders created during an import or a re-indexing process, and Mail should have deleted them when done. Their presence is a clear indication that something didn't work as expected. If you've been using Mail after the conversion and have already tried to fix the problem by rebuilding the mailbox or something like that, they might contain messages that are neither in Messages proper nor in the mbox file, so keep them around until the problem is fixed.
7. Move everything else within INBOX.mbox, except the Messages folder, to the Trash.
The result of the above should be that INBOX.mbox contains the proper Messages folder only, and the Inbox Old folder on the Desktop contains the mbox and Incoming_Mail (if it exists) files only. Now, proceed as follows:
8. Open Mail.
9. The account's Inbox should properly display in Mail as many messages as *.emlx files are in ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/Messages/. If that's not the case, select the mailbox in Mail and do Mailbox > Rebuild.
10. In Mail, do File > Import Mailboxes, choose Other as the data format, and follow the instructions to import the Inbox Old folder that's on the Desktop. Do with the imported mail whatever you wish. You may move to the account's Inbox the messages that Mail failed to convert properly, and delete those that did get through and, hence, are duplicates now.
The following collection of AppleScripts has a Remove Duplicates script that can be useful for removing duplicate messages:
http://homepage.mac.com/aamann/Mail_Scripts.html
If all is well and you're not missing anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Ask for any clarifications or if you need further assistance.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user's home folder.

I receive both My husbands emails and mine through my ipad. We both have gmail accounts.  His emails are coming down on the ipad but not mine.  I haven't received mail since Saturday. We use the email for business I desperately need it and I don't have a laptop anymore as it is broken.   In my wisdom I desired to buy an ipad instead,  what a mistake.

The iPad will support multiple Gmail accounts, but of course you have to set each one up individually.  Did you set up both accounts?  Go into Settings/ Mail, Contacts, Calendars to confirm both accounts exist.  If they do, also familiarize yourself on how to navigate between accounts to make sure you can view your Inbox.  You may also want to check your settings to make sure that you have the default account set up as you expect for Mail, Contacts, Calendar, and Notes (if you're using all those features).  That is important only when initiating something new, you have to have a default account to do such a thing so make sure the default is your account since it is your iPad (assuming that's what you want).
Alternatively, install the free Gmail app and then use only his (or your) account with that app and use the standard iOS Mail app for the other account.

  • Dynamic file name of the attachment in receiver mail adapter

    Hi
I have configured a receiver mail adapter which receives the payload as an xml attachment.
Right now the file name of the attachment is hardcoded to "invoice.xml".
I want to set it to dynamic ie. instead of "invoice.xml"... i want it as "invoice<invoicenumber>.xml".
Invoice number is present in the payload.
please suggest a solution w/o the need to develop a custom adapter module.
    Thanks!

  • Lost the Preview Window in Mail

    Title says it all really.
The Preview window in Mail seemes to have vanished, (the bit under the mails...)
I've gone through the menus etc as thoruoghly as I can, but I can't find the option to switch it back on.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Cheers

There will be a small dot at the bottom center of the mail list window (which is the minimized preview window). Either double click on that dot or drag that up to resize your preview window.

  • Since installing OS X 10.9 some (not all) of my mailboxes have lost the contents of their mail messages. Can I restore them?

Since installing OS X 10.9 last week, my Mail app is malfunctioning. I can no longer read the contents of old mail messages in some of my mailboxes. Others are fine. Can I restore them?

As EtreCheck just provides a snapshot in time, it is not terribly useful for figuring out what is slowing the system down unless you have known bad actors running on your Mac that show up in the report.
You need to watch Activity Monitor when it slows down and see what is chewing up CPU and Memory.
If the Memory Pressure gets into the Red while using it, then it is likely not enough RAM for what you are trying to do. With the check you posted above, you weren't having any memory issues at that moment.
You've got a handful of startup items which I know nothing about. Try disabling them and see if things are better.
    User Login Items:
        WBE Desktop Notifier
        WorkspaceUpdate
        iTunesHelper
        AdobeResourceSynchronizer
    And
    [loaded]    com.starfield.backupservice.plist 3rd-Party support link
You can test by booting into Safe Mode. If it works reasonable well there, it is likely one of the startup or login items.
If not, I would agree with others that it is the lack of RAM.

  • Need to reboot my device to receive mails since An...

I have four mails accounts in my N8, i use push mails. Since Anna, several times a day, i can see my phone starting to sync one mails account (the white circle on top left is turning) but will never stop sync and will never receive email for all my accounts. It can last hours.... always sync and no mail! I need to reboot my phone to keep on receiving mails. Do you have it too? Thnk you.

Yes, I have the same issue since installing Anna too (and many more: /t5/Nseries-and-Symbian-Smartphones/N8-auto-restart-after-updating-Anna/td-p/1122125/highlight/true/...).
But who is left at Nokia to help us?
Or at least acknowledge that these major issues are under investigation?

  • Lost e-mail on Tiger upgrade

I just upgraded to Tiger from 10.3.9 and all of my mail before the upgrade says "The message from [e-mail address] concerning [Subject] has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
Have I lost all of my old e-mail permanently?

Boy, you were not kidding about traffic on this issue. There's a technical paper on it also. I solved the problem by a simple rebuilding, except for one odd box where rebuilding didn't work so I moved the mail from a disabled box to the active box and then rebuilt.
So rebuilding isn't unimportant. I thought it was just like when you compressed your mail in the old AOL so I basically ignored doing it.

  • HT1277 cannot receive mail since mountain lion

since my upgrade to mountain lion I had to reinstall my mail settings to be able to use mail again.
however, now it is not working anymore. I did the installation together with the UPC helpdesk, so no mistakes,
but I still do not receive any mail. I can send mail tho. UPC helpdesk says they cannot help me with this,
it must be an apple problem.
    Please help me?!

    Thank you for your response.
Unfortunately, the solution for my problem is not on this page.
Mail is working fine on my ipad and iphone but not on my imac since the last upgrade.
I can hear mail coming in, but I donot see it on my screen.
Now I tried to do the installation again with the lion settings i.s.o. ml
and .............. yes, it is working!
I am a very happy woman again.

  • Why can't I receive mail since upgrading to Lion?

I've tried the solutions given to other people with this problem but I keep getting the following error message: 'The server “p99-imap.mail.me.com” refused to allow a connection on port 143.' Strange. The problem is restricted to my Macbook Pro. The iMac and iPad are unaffected.

Thank you so much, Glenn! (And thank you Google for finding this thread for me.) While I have no idea how or why it worked, it got rid of the dreaded warning symbol and error message.

  • Keyword search not working properly in Mail since iCloud upgrade

Since I upgraded to iCloud from MobileMe and Lion from Snow Leopard, the new Mail (Version 5.2 (1278)) does not execute keyword searches properly.  With the previous version I could start entering a keyword and all potential matches based on my criteria (email contents, from, to, subject etc.) would populate the window with all possible matches from whichever folders I specified or all folders. That is not happening now.  I have entered numerous keywords in the search box for matches I know exist, but they are not being found.
Anyone also seeing this issue?  I am using Mail to access an IMAP email account for my business. Again, this was not a problem before the migration to iCloud and the forced Mail version upgrade.
    Richard

Thank you. I can't find "startup volume" in the side bar. Is that my SSD (or hard disc) main boot drive you're taliking about? I hope this will work...
If it doesn't work, you might try posting a new discussion to see if others might have some thoughts on it.
    Well, there's another post (here):
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1293956
from the looks of it, I'm in serious trouble as this is now becomming a common issue and one that has no resolve. This really messes everything up as I need (as well as a lot of others out there) to use the search on a daily basis for me to check on past emails. I rely on that to work. This is terrible... There is really no other way to search for anything now. What was Apple thinking?...
Again, I look forward to your reply to my (above) question...

  • Iphone not pushing/pulling mail since iOS4 upgrade

I have an iphone 3GS and before I upgraded the operating system to iOS4, I had my phone set to automatically pull my mail to my phone. Now, since I upgraded, the phone will not pull my mail. I can click the refresh button, but it will just show connecting and never pull anything. The only way I can make it pull messages is to power the phone down and power back up. Is there anyone who is having this same problem since the upgrade?

I have found a way to fix this problem. All of the email accounts that you had before the upgrade will have to be deleted and re-added to your phone. That the only way I could get it back to normal.
