I've tried exporting videos from quicktime..I dont get it

I have videos already on my computer. I went to the support website for apple.com and it had a movie to watch on how to get movies on your ipod. it said if I used quick time pro (which I paid 30 dollars for) that I could export movies to my ipod, I also downloaded some freeware that is a ipod converter cause ipods only read certain video files or something like that? I am really confused. All I want to do is get my video identity that has already been through my ipod converter freeware to my ipod..
I've tried exporting a music video and it exported it..said exportings done..I go to itunes look in the videos section and I see.......nothing! So where is it exporting it? and what am I doing wrong?
well if anyone could help me..that would be great. thanks in advanced!

Some converters may have the option to send the target file directly to iTunes. Others do not. Even if a converter has this option, it usually must be invoked to let it know you want this done. Otherwise, the normal process is for you to enter a Target file name and path to the location/directory where you want the file to be stored. Where did you tell the application to send it? Have you used the "Find" function to try and locate it? Or you can simulate a second conversion and simply note the current default point of storage.
As to which application to use for conversion, the best advice is to use the one which does the job and is the easiest for you to use. For instance, don't try using QT Pro to convert an MPEG1 file to an iPod compatible format. You will lose your audio if you do. Use an MPEG based, third party program instead. If you want a "goof proof," high quality, multi-pass conversion and have all the time in the world to let it run, then try the QT Pro export "Movie to iPod (320x24)" preset. Most likely, you will test and end up using a converter which best suits your needs in terms of efficiency in time, space, or complexity for the current given project.

  • Exporting videos from iPhoto

For the life of me, I can't figure out a way to export videos which I imported into iPhoto from my camera. I can export it to my desktop but can't export them in a format that I can then import into Vimeo or other video sharing site.
What the heck does a guy gotta do to share his simple .avi videos with others on the Internet?
I tried exporting it from Quicktime too, but sadly, exporting my own video from Quicktime requires that I have a Pro account. Sad but true.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
To export a video from iPhoto:
Select the video in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. Set the *Kind: to Original*. This will export your video.
can't export them in a format that I can then import into Vimeo or other video sharing site.
Why? What formats do they require? Do the videos require shifting to a new format?
What the heck does a guy gotta do to share his simple .avi videos with others on the Internet?
Who can tell, when you don’t explain where the procedure breaks down for you.

Why is that sad? When you export from Quicktime you are shifting formats or otherwise editing the video.

  • How do I export video from a Canon Optura 30 camcorder to my iMac/ iMovies? I've tried a Firewire cable but imovies doesn't seem to recognise the camcorder.

I've been trying to export video from my Canon Optura 30 camcorder to imovies with a firewire lead, however nothing happens and imovies doesn't semm to reconise the camcorder. Can anyone help please?

Here is a compatibility chart for iMovie:
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/cameras/en/index.html?lang=en_US
I did not see yours; however, as long as it has firewire, it should work. Did you read the instructions in both your camcorder manual and in iMovie on the steps needed?
If you can't get it to work after following the steps, what format does it record in? Is it on a memory card? If so, it'd be easy: just use a USB card reader, plug it in and import your footage that way.

    Thank you Benjt and Sue:
I have first chosen to followed Sue's suggestion concerning the firewire connections since that looked to be the one most easily done quickly. I therefore had to make more room on the hard drive in my MacBook Pro since the drive is only 100 GB. I normally use an external 400GB drive to hold my video files since one of the plays last May required about 200GB! However, the play this time was a short one and not really High Density anyway like the one was in May with a much finer camera. I have been connecting the external HD via Firewire800.
I simply moved a number of files from my MacBook Pro drive and put them in the external HD as well as another HD and then disconnected the external HD from my MacBook. I was, indeed, able to import the entire tape in one shot into iMovie. iMovie is still not working right since I found that I had to click "import" in iMovie to start collecting a clip and then hit "play" on my camcorder to actually import the tape contents into the clip. I found the whole play, just 50 min this time, in that clip when we returned home this evening.
I can now get the editing done one their last play for the kids and have DVDs for them when I go back up to Gainesville to record their current play on Thursday evening.
I will then devote some time to trying to solve the rest of the problem, looking into Benjt's suggestions.
Thanks very much for your very timely critical and positive help this afternoon. For your information, I also have been working on learning Final Cut Express but as I tried to put all of my reading into practice, I now I can't even get FCE to open - but that's another story and a very different problem.
    Thanks again.
