I've tried to up date my iphone 3gs with io5
Hi folks, after trying to up date to io5 my 3gs is now bricked. Ive tried resetting using itunes but get error codes 36 & 47 on a continiuos loop. It goes so far them bombs out with the errors codes. I dont have any 3rd party software on the phone & it worked fine till io5. any ideas how to resolve this issue?
Hi dude, yes I've tried that & can get as far as restore & update, it extracts the software, prepares the phone for restore then just comes up with error code 36. It wont go any further than that unfortunately but thanks for the reply & taking time to help, its much appreciated

I have an old iPhone 3Gs with software version 4.3.5, I am trying to use it again, and it works fine, but I have not been able to update the software. Every time I try, I get the following message:
"there was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone, the network connection could not be established". This happens even though I have a working internet connection.
Besides that, all the other functions work properly, even synchronize apps and library.

Activation issues are almost always the result of a device that has been hacked or jailbroken. If that is the case, no support can be provided here.

I am getting an error message 1015 every time.
Unable to restore, please help.You can try restoring the latest version in iTunes. Be aware that the jailbreak may have altered how your Mac works so you may want to make a clean install of OS X (on a spare disk) & retry installing the newest iOS from Apple onto the device via iTunes.
You can try all the usual steps to restore iOS onto a device.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings
If you can't update or restore your iOS device
You also cannot install older OS's from iTunes so you have little choice but to update the 3GS to iOS 6 (or perform more hacks). If it keeps failing I'd suspect something is altered on the Mac to allow the original jailbreak.
You must search elsewhere if you want to keep the jailbreak. -

Somebody help!What happened when you connected your iPhone to your computer while running iTunes on your computer? You should be prompted through the restore process. If it doesn't work try getting your iPhone into Recovery Mode.

trying to active my old iPhone 3gs. it showing that activation server is temporary unavailable and on the iTunes showing that there is no sim card installed in the iPhone you are attempting to activate. Was the SIM card activated on another phone? I assume this is an ATT style trying to use on T-Mobile? Was the SIM installed correctly? Is the carrier (like T-Mobile) operating IOS 6 devices yet?
If the SIM is a valid SIM from say T-Mobile, you may want to contact them for assistance activating the SIM card.
Activation and SIM issues typically point to the carrier. And if this was a CDMA phone say working with verizon, it will NOT work for ATT or T-Mobile as they use different electronics on the 3GS. The SIM slot is for international use only. -

Can I restore back to IOS 5.1?It sounds like you have a hacked/unofficially unlocked iphone. When you update, it will indeed lock it back, as it should.
The ONLY place that can legitimately unlock an iphone is the carrier to which they are locked and no U.S. carrier does this. -

I tried to update my iphone 3GS with IOS6 and the update was incomplete. It then said retry so I did and it synced with my daughters ipod touch causing me to lose ALL of my information. Is there any way to retrieve my previous information or reset my phone to what it was? Unfortunately I dont thing I backed up my contacts, pictures, etc.

Check within the network bars on the phone whether it is showing you 3G, EDGE or GPRS in capital letters...!!
If not give a hard-reset to the phone (remove the battery put it back once)...
And if it shows in caps letters then try requesting for services again... how? on the phone desktop > within the search bar > type "Host Routing Table".... search results shows you as "options"... select that & select host routing table... afterwards, hit the blackberry menu button > select register...

Unable to restore iPhone 3Gs with iOS 4 (error 1013)
I recently updated my 16GB iPhone 3Gs with iOS 4 (iPhone2,14.0_8A293Restore.ipsw) using iTunes 9.2 - it worked fine for a few days then all of a sudden I got a pop up message saying "you are unable to make or receive calls, please connect to iTunes". I did so and restored the firmware, it went through the whole cycle, unpacked, installed, verified and when it was about to be completed I got the following error from iTunes:
"The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1013)"
The phone remained in restore mode (iTunes icon and USB cable). I tried restoring again with the same result. I then deleted the firmware file, rebooted and reinstalled (same error). I then deleted a reinstalled iTunes (no dice). I tried alternative USB ports and cables and also tried on 2 other computers and tried all this in DFU mode too yet nothing has worked.
I would also like to point out that it is an original O2 phone with O2 chi[p that has *never been jailbroken*. Any ideas as to whats wrong? Or what I can do? Thanks in advance for you help!OK, so nothing else was working so I took my phone into the Genius bar and explained what had happened. The Genius said He was unsure what error 1013 was so he looked it up and explained "It's an error related to the baseband and that more than likely the phone was unable to communicate with Apple servers as Apple had the phone marked as non existent"
He continued to explain that there was a fix he could do but would be quicker and easier to replace my phone. He did so and I left happy.
I recomend you just take your phones in if you are having this same issue!
