I've upgraded to new version of itunes on windows 7 PC - no link to my library - HELP!!

Hi There
So, upgraded to new itunes - no link to my previous library though some recent itunes purchases there.  Have tried draggin music file into Itunes - only connects first song on first album.  tried dragging individual albums - again only first song and seems to be asking me to repurchase my entire collection (100's of thousands of songs - I don't think so!).
The general help form apple is not clear and if I have interpreted it correctly, doesn't work.  I really, really need my music back - would rather loose my photo collection than my music collection.  if you could help, it would be much appreciated!
Many thanks

Hello MermaidMonkey,
Here is an article about pointing iTunes to your library again.

Here is also an article that describes a similar situation to what you are saying:

And lastly if needed, you can always re create your iTunes library.

  • Can't upgrade to new version of itunes

when i try to upgrade to new version of itunes, i receive an error, "can't find file, iTunes.msi. somewhere along the line this file was deleted. i can't even uninstall the program without this file!
    help!

I have the same problem. I've even tried to uninstall iTunes but I get the same errormessage that it can't find iTunes.msi. Specifically it says it can't find iToons 8.0.0.35. I can't get updates for iTunes or my iPhone.
Is there any way to correct the problem? I'd like to uninstall it and reload it as long as I won't delete all of my music.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Just downloaded a new version of itunes on windows 7 and is not responding

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Ever since upgrading to the new version of itunes 10.2.1 my iphone will not work at all, it will not switch off and will not restore which itunes tells me is needed, cannot use phone at all, need help please.

  • Loss of playlists on iPod Classic after upgrading to new version if iTunes

Everytime I've upgraded to a new version of iTunes, I lose all the playlists (songs, videos, etc) from my iPod Classic. I have to re-sync everytime and with a lot of songs it gets annoying and I don't want to upgrade to new versions. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks.

I've seen this once before and deleting the playlist and recreating it with a different name solved it.
Also... try using disk utility to burn a data CD to make sure that burning generally works. Daft I know, but there you go.

  • When upgrading to new version of itunes program won't open says MSCR80.dll is missing and to reinstall

when upgrading to newest version of itunes, it will not open due to MSVCR80.dll is missing. it says to reinstall which I did but program still will not open.

    Hey there dstenn,
It sounds like you are unable to open iTunes after a recent update. I suggest the troubleshooting steps from the article named:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,

  • Please tell me how to install the new version of itunes on windows 7. Every time I attempt, I get an error at the very end of installation.

The message says: "Service 'Apple Mobile Deice' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have the sufficient priveleges to start system services". Please help.

"The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read becuase it was created by a newer version of iTunes".
I believe we're still making progress. Let's try the following user tip with the new error message:

  • Upgrading to new versions of iTunes

    Hello everyone
I would like to ask if I have to uninstall a previous version of iTunes in order to install a new one.
    Thanks.

as part of the upgrade, the new itunes version first uninstalls the previous versions of iTunes and/or QuickTime.
however, if there are issues with the upgrade process, removing the previous versions of iTunes and QuickTime are among the first things you should try by way of troubleshooting. there's info on that in the following document:
Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows

  • Should I or shouldn't I - Upgrade to newer versions of iTunes?

I've been unable to upgrade to some of the newer updates to iTunes (& iPod) due to error messages. I believe the last version I have is 6.0 (late last year's). The question I have is..If I can't upgrade to the newer versions am I missing something vitally important to this program. I can continue to run the version I have without any problems...or do I have to update?

Your not missing anything that "Major" you have 6.0 and the latest version is 6.0.4.2 I always recommend updating to stay current with any minor updates they have installed or minor features to better the product. but far as missing anything very very important, no you are not missing anything yet. when we see version 6.1 or maybe 7.0, then yeah you would be missing something important

  • Will upgrading to new version of itunes delete my last iPad backup?

will upgrading to a newest version itunes delete my last iPad backup? I am currently running 10.5.0.142 and just installed iOS6 to my iPad2 and was prmpted to do a restore.  Only problem is ituntes says I can't sync up my back up until I install the newest version of itunes.

no, updating versions does not delete your current library

  • Upgraded to new version of itunes but still tells me I need to upgrade?

I've upgraded to the latest 64bit version of iTunes and when I plug in my iPhone it says I need to up grade to the latest 64 bit version. Ive done this many times and it still wont work. What do I do now?

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)
