  • Does iPhoto 9.6 work with iCloud Photo Library at all?

I have iOs 8.1, but I have not enabled iCloud Drive or iCloud Photo Library yet, and I have not updated to Yosemite yet. I don't want to activate those until I know how photos between thee mac and iPhone will work after they are enabled.
Does iPhoto 9.6 interact at all with iCloud Photo Library? Does it even "see" iCPL photos similar to PhotoStream? Can it import from there? Do any of the crops and edits come through in iPhoto from the iOS photos app (whether imported from the iCPL or even via direct d/l from the phone via usb?

So what are you guys doing to manage your photos until the OSX Photos app come out? Just not using iCloud Photo Library at all I assume?
Can you use iCloud photo library but still manually import photos into iPhoto from USB import?
You can view your iCloud Photo Library (Beta) and download from iCloud Photo Library (Beta) at https://beta.icloud.com  or https://www.icloud.com  on your Mac, if you click the "Photos" icon. Click the "?" mark, to view the help for "Photos". But you cannot yet upload directly from your Mac to this library, even if the iCloud Photos Help is saying otherwise.
You can download to your mac from your devices using USB, but with iCloud Photo Library (Beta) enabled on your iPad or iPhone, you can no longer sync photos to them using iTunes Photo sync. So it is hard to get any photos onto your devices at the moment, other than using Photo Stream. To upload  photos to your iPad/iPhone using iTunes you have to disable iCloud Photo Library. And the synced photos will be erased, when you enable iCloud Photo Library again.

  • Share iCloud Photo Library between two iCloud Accounts

I'm hoping someone can think of a creative solution to a problem I've encountered after upgrading to the latest OS on our Apple devices. Here is our specific use case:
Prior to iOS 8/OS X Yosemite, this was my configuration
Each Device (iPhone, iPod, iPad, Mac) was configured as such:
Primary iCloud Account: shared family account - [email protected] iPhone, calendar, reminders, Photostream enabled
Secondary iCloud Account: individual unique account - [email protected], calendar, reminders, mail enabled
This allows each user to have their own content under their unique iCloud account that was a secondary account on each device, but still have access to all of the shared services setup under the common Primary iCloud account on each device.
Most importantly, Photostream allowed EVERY photo on EVERY device to be automatically shared with every other device.
    Post iOS 8/OS X Yosemite:
Apple has provided support for most of what was accomplished with the common shared iCloud account via Family Sharing, and iCloud Photo Gallery is a fantastic service.
BUT, due to Continuity and Hand-Off relying on the primary iCloud account, there is no way to share one iCloud Photo Gallery account across multiple users. The only way I've found to do that is to maintain a common primary iCloud account on each device that handles the iCloud Photo Gallery syncing, but then every device will respond to Hand-off and Continuity actions, which is obviously not ideal.
To recap, I want individual iCloud accounts on every device per user so that Handoff and Continuity work correctly, BUT I want one common iCloud Photo Gallery across all accounts so that every picture is shared with every device without having to manually add them to a shared album.
Am I missing something with the configuration, or is there a way to "trick" iCloud to work the way I want?

For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

If deleting a photo from any device deletes it from the iCloud Photo Library, "library" may not be the right word to describe its function. Surprised nobody else has commented on this. Am I the only one who got this wrong?
Your iCloud Photo Library is in iCloud, and the main purpose is to sync and update it across all your devices. Any change you do, including deleting, will sync across all devices syncing with iCloud Photo Library.
If you want to save space on your mobile devices use the "Optimize Storage" option. Then you will store only optimized thumbnails on your devices and keep the full resolution versions in iCloud.
    http://www.apple.com/osx/photos/
Fill your library, not your device.
iCloud Photo Library can help you make the most of the space on your Mac. When you choose “Optimize Mac Storage,” all your full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud in their original formats, with storage-saving versions kept on your Mac as space is needed. You can also optimize storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, so you can access more photos and videos than ever before

  • ICloud photos library for Photos app Yosemite sync issues

Strangely, after enabling iCloud photos library on Photos app. It does sync all the lowres image into Photos app but the downloading of hires is always stuck.
Even if I leave it to sync overnight and it just stay the same until the next morning.
Anyone has facing the same issues?
    Thanks.

After two weeks I'm on my 6th attempt (6th from-scratch library) just trying to get the download and sync features to work. As of this morning the sync appears to be working but the fact that after 12 hours of "downloading" my library of 53,000 images is only 9 gigabytes, I'd say, yes, my high-resolution images are not coming down either. I have definitely set to download originals to my Mac.

  • Will the new photos app and icloud photos library support all formats of pics and videos from my iphoto library?

I will be migrating my whole 200gb iPhoto library 9.5.1 mavericks over to Yosemite iPhoto 9.6.1 and then migrate to the new photos app and hopefully to the icloud.photos online. Does this all support all of my formats such as AVI videos in my iPhoto library. I don't want to lose those through migration.

I have this 31% issue too - when I attempt to update my iPhoto library to the new Photo app.
I have a few libraries - one on my mac, and two on a NAS. I access the NAS via wifi.
The mac based library did update, but the two network albums have yet to be successfully migrated over to Photo.
    It's driving me insane!!!

  • Videos not appearing in my Apple TV library after activating iCloud photo library

    Hi
Ive activated iCloud photo library on all my devices (other than mac).  All seems to be syncing and playing correctly on my iPhone, iPad and iCloud.com however, when I view on my Apple TV none of the videos show in the list.  Ive updated the software to the latest version.
Am I doing something wrong perhaps?!
thanks for any help on the matter!
    Nick

    I'm not a 100% sure.
I had som many duplicates after my import to Photo (from iPhoto), and while some were zombie files, and others because I had screwed a little with my iPhoto package. But when I imported I did have several albums shared, and they were all duplicated.
I unshared all my albums, and I'm currently working on cleaning up my library before sharing again (so I have a good base to start from).
Here is what I think might be happening (or at least hope, otherwise it's a big bug): When you share an album... as far as iCloud is concerned, they are probably treated as separate items in the cloud. Which means Photos is creating a copy. I have the feeling that if you delete the original in your library, the copy you have shared will remain.
But the thing that probably shouldn't happen, is that Years/Collections/Moments is displaying both the master version you had originally, and the version that is shared.
Remember... these are only my thoughts, since I'm not at the point of testing this yet.

  • How do I use the same iCloud Photo Library on multiple iPhones?

I want to be able to use iCloud photo library on all my i-Devices, with the same photo library. I can log in with the same iCloud account on all devices, but, then I can't get FindMyFriends to work, because each IOS device needs it's own iCloud account for FindMyFriends.
    Suggestions?

it tells me it is already in use
You will need to contact the previous owner of the iPhone in order to change the Apple ID.

  • Can I organise photos into albums within iCloud Photo Library?

i Understand that edits / deletes etc in iCloud Photo Libary will be reflected on all my iOS devices but can I organise my photos into albums using iCloud photo library?
basically I want to take photos on my iPhone, review them on my iPad, delete the ones I don't want and keep the good ones in a relevant album (e.g. "Summer holiday 2014"). Then I want to be able to see identical albums on both my iPad and iPhone. From what I've seen so far, when I create an album and save a photo to it then that album is only local to that device?
    please help.

Are you saying it showed 800 photos before turning off iCloud photo library or that the 800 photos disappeared after you enabled iCloud photo library for the first time, the distinction is quite important.

  • ICloud Photo Library: How do I transfer photos and videos only from my iPhone to my iPad but not from my iPad to my iPhone?

I had iCloud photo libraey turned on on both my iPad and iPhone. As said by the feature, photos and videos were being transferred automatically from each device to each other. I have a 64GB iPad Air 2 and my iPhone 5 only has 16GB of storage so I am lacking much more space on my iPhone than my iPad. I was wondering if there was a way to transfer photos only from my iPhone to my iPad but not from my iPad to my iPhone. Would turning off iCloud Photo library on my iPad do the trick? Thanks hope someone can help me out.

iCloud Photo Library keeps all of your photos in the Cloud which you then can selectively download. So, unless you download the iPad photos, they are not going to be taking up any room on your iPhone:
How does iCloud Photo Library save space on my device?
If you turn on Optimize [device] Storage, iCloud Photo Library will automatically manage the size of your library on your iOS device, so you can make the most of your device's storage and access more photos than ever. iCloud Photo Library stores the original, high-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and can keep lightweight, device-optimized versions on each of your devices. As long as you have enough storage, recent photos and videos that you access the most will stay on your device at full resolution.
You can turn on Optimize [device] Storage from Settings > iCloud > Photos or Settings > Photos & Camera > iCloud Photo Library on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. You need an Internet connection to access an original photo or video that’s stored only in iCloud.

  • Iphone 6 stalls uploading photos to iCloud photo library

i have an iPhone 6 with the latest version of ios. Pretty often - generally at least once a week - it will attempt to upload new photos to iCloud photo library and just get stuck. Usually I have to either turn iCloud photo library off then on or sign out of my iCloud account to get it to start. But for the past few days (and of course I am on vacation so it can't do a full reset because I have no access to my iTunes backup) it just hangs. First trying to upload one photo, then whatever new photos I took - including photos that I airdropped to my iPad mini and are already in the icloud photo library. Now I again tried tuending my iCloud account on and off and it is sitting trying to upload over 1,100 hundred shots.
Any suggestions I can try before I get home and can try apple tech support of s full factory reset and restore?
    Thanks

You may not like this solution, but it's the last thing that the apple care support could offer.
Let's say you have a bunch of photos stuck on syncing...
Connect iPhone to a computer via the cable, set iPhone to Airplane mode
Use Photos.app and select your iPhone in the sidebar (enable the sidebar first)
Select the photos you want to import
    Select "Import"
Now all your photos are downloaded from the iPhone and then uploaded to iCloud Photo library.
Delete the Photos on your iPhone manually, also from the "trash"
Disable airplane mode on the iPhone
Disable iCloud photo library in the settings of iCloud.
Log out of your iCloud account on the iPhone
Wait till all the photos on the iPhone are deleted as well... delete them manually, also from trash (make sure you have them all in the Photos app on your mac!)
    Restart your Phone
Log into your iCloud again and enable iCloud photo library.
    All the photos should sync.
I hope this helps, it helped me at least!

  • Since iCloud Photo Library will not allow photos from iTunes iphoto to be up loaded ---how do I upload my photos to iCloud Photo Library?

I Have a 5s iPhone updated to 8.1---- have installed iCloud Photo Library---- will only upload 4oo of 21,000 photos--- will not upload any photos from iTunes. Since all 21,000 are in iPhoto's iTunes how do I get them to the icloud photo library.  As you know enabling iCloud Photo Library deletes all iTunes photos from the iPhone 5s.  Any ideas?

I Figured it out----- you can't upload iTunes iphotos to iCloud Photo Library from an iPhone!  Can't be done.  Must have a Mac to do it--- and it better not be an old one. Thanks apple!

  • ICloud Photo Library and iPhone Storage

How can I delete just the locally stored photos/videos on my iPhone? I am using iCloud Photo Library and just imported thousands of pics into Photos for Mac. Now, my iPhone can "see" my entire photos library, but I have 18GB of 'Photos' locally stored on the phone. I would like to be able to delete the locally stored pics but when I try to delete any image (whether I know it's one that is locally stored or know it is one that is in iCloud), it says, "This photo will be deleted from iCloud Photo Library on all of your devices." I do not want to delete it from iCloud, only my iPhone. Thanks in advance!

yeah, I don't think they are allowing you to do this. You can only optimize the locally stored photos, and if the phone fills up with those, it will then dump some from your phone but keep them in the cloud. Like you, I was hoping that once you store a photo in iCloud, you could remove the local copy of the photo. and worse, if you do start deleting photos from your phone, it sounds like they automatically get deleted off of the cloud, after 30 days that is. Doesn't make sense to me. Finally, on your mac, if you have more photos than you have iCloud photo storage, it just stops syncing, rather than just storing your most recent pics?!?

  • IPhone not uploading photos to iCloud Photo Library.  Why?

I have 2 iPhones 6Plus's both fully updated.  I have enabled them both to use iCloud Photo Library.  One has synced up nicely, the other has not pulled any photos down from the cloud and says that it has 2,373 items to upload.  Any ideas what could be preventing it?  I have tried toggling iCloud Photo Library off and on with no success.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks.
