Or is Xeon only for windows?
Thank you in advance

Hello Jan,
All supported platforms for IBM hardware can be found at the location SAP on Linux and this points to SAP note 171380.
You can contact IBM for older Blade / xSeries/ Netfinity models not listed under the above URL as mentioned to confirm if supported for your planned OS install.
Information about supported combinations and install procedure can be found at the following sources:
SAP on Linux -> Supported Linux kernels & Supported Linux distributions.
SAP note 407314 - Released operating systems SAP R/3 kernel 6.x ORACLE, this assumes you will be installing with Linux.
SAP note 171356 - SAP software on Linux: Essential information
SAP note 722273 - Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3/4: Installation and upgrade
I hope this information helps.
All the best,

  • Which models of xeon based Mac Pros will run 10.4?

I need to replace an old G5 A1117, but I still want to use my old DAW software which requires 10.4.x. I see that the early Mac Pro xeon based work stations (A1188 - 2113, 2.66 GHz quad core) came with 10.4, so I know they will run it.
But what I specifically would like to know, is will the newer Mac Pros run 10.4 as well? For instance, a 2006 Mac Pro 3.1, quad-core 2.8 Ghz (A1186, 2180)? It came with 10.5 as the base OS.

Most software sets a minimum OS and not every version. And 10.4.10 was simply the first time OS X was made for Intel hardware, not the best. And it is certainly no longer supported.

    Hi got_jorge,
Sorry, this is not possible, as it is not only a matter of data that you put on the Hard Drive.
    Everything is different:
    CPU, Firmware, Power Management, etc.
It just doesn't work the same way.
    May I suggest?
Sell your computer, so that you can get a Mini and (most probably) don't need to buy a display, as yours should make it with the Mini?
    Sorry.

is there any way how i can download and run Window based games, with out installing Windows-thus Bootcamp? and if so, is it free?

No, you must install Windows to run Windows software. You do not need to use Boot Camp (yes, it's free because it comes with OS X.)
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Web Based Configuration possible security flaw

My coworkers and I found something quite interesting today...despite having configured FTP security settings (which have been confirmed to be set up and funcitoning. I can't open an FTP session to our remote target without specifying an admin user name and password) if you open the NI web based configuration tool in a browser, you can FTP to and from the target using the remote file browser without being logged in at all! Has anyone else experienced this??

Apparently, these permissions are separate from FTP, but you can set these particular permissions on the Security configuration page of the web based configuration utility.

  • Customer/Variant based Exclusion; possible?

    Greetings all,
In a project where Variant Configuration is used, I need to exclude some characteristic values from specific customers (say, Customer A cannot buy material Z if he wants its colour characteristic to be Black). It seems that I cannot achieve this by the standard Exclusion function. Creating a new exclusion table with Variant as a field is not possible; it is not among the fields allowed for listing/exclusion (It also cannot be added since it is neither in KOMGG, KOMKG, nor KOMPG – or is there a way to go around that error?).
How can such functionality be met? Is it possible in SD, or does it necessitate the reliance on PP dependencies, or anything other than that?
Thank you very much in advance.

Can anyone help? We have same issue.  but little different scenario.
A customer can exist in multiple territories but for same partner function if a customer assigned explicitly to a territory (XXXXX ) by BP ID, system should not assigned this customer to another Terriroty ZZZZZ based on geenric rule say zip code and region .both Terriroties are mapp to same partner fucntions (e.g. Area Sales Rep). The customer can be in another terriroty say YYYY based on YYYY rule  which is mapped for different partner fucntion (Area Manager)

Giving you example how to achieve this.
Step 1. Create three Page Items
        1) P1_ORDER_NO - Text Field
        2) P1_REVISION_NO - Text Field
        3) P1_ENABLE_DISABLE_REVNO  - Hidden,Value Protected - No
    2. Create 3 Dynamic Actions
    1) Disable revision number on page load
        Event - Page Load
        Action - Disable
Fire When Event Result Is  - True
        Selection Type - Item
        Item - P1_REVISION_NO
      2) Check duplicate order number
        Event - Change
        Selection Type - Item(s)
        Item(s) - P1_ORDER_NO

Fire on page load - Unchecked
Stop Execution On Error - Checked
        Wait for Result - Checked

    end if;
    end;
Page Items to Submit = P1_ORDER_NO
Page Items to Return  = P1_ENABLE_DISABLE_REVNO

    Primary : 5 GB Solaris

Primary: 5 GB Windows XP NTFS
    Primary: 54 GB Free NTFS
Cause of the problem is as follows:
I wanted to install Netbeans and other SUN software so tried to make room my mounting the 10 GB FAT32 partition manually in solaris.
    mount -F pcfs /dev/dsk/c0d0p0:1
This worked allright. To automate the process I added entry in /etc/vhstab file

#to mount to fsck point type pass at boot
    /dev/dsk/c0d0p0:1 - /c pcfs - yes -

Is there a way out of this or do i need to reinstall a fresh copy or repair using the Solaris DVD.
Please suggest a method by which i will be able to boot into the system from the GRUB> prompt and restore the system.
I faced a similar situation earlier but then i was able to follow the above steps to boot into the system and restore the menu.lst by using installgrub.
    Please help.
    Thank You in advance.

For the first time Solaris multiboot users, I recommend installing it as the last OS occupying the last primary partition (hd0,3). But it is possible to install Solaris, Linux then Windows if you are willing to edit menu.lst and add Linux and Windows boot stanzae manually. Any subsequent Windows or major service pack installation would wipe out grub installed by Solaris. But re-installation of grub that comes with Solaris is not that difficult - all you need is a boot cd/dvd or floppy disk containing usf version of grub.
    # grub
    grub> find /boot/grub/stage1
(hd0,0,a) This is the answer from grub and depends on whre your Solaris is located at+
    grub> root (hd0,0,a)
filesystem is ufs, partition type 0xbf
    grub> setup (hd0)
    Checking if “boot/grub/stage1” exists...yes
    Checking if “boot/grub/stage2” exists...yes
    Checking if “boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5” exists...yes
    Running “embed /boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5(hd0)”...16 sectors
    are embedded... succeeded
    Running “install /boot/grub/stage1(hd0) (hd0)1+16p (hd0,0,a)
    /boot/grub/stage2/boot/grub/menu.lst”... succeeded
    Done.
    grub> quit
    # reboot
Solaris version of grub and Linux version appear and behave much the same but they are not interchangeable. Solaris version has enhanced support for both ufs and ext2 and Solaris slices (sub-partitions) whereas Linux version lacks all these features. Both versions can competently boot Windows by chain loading (pointing Windows boot partition) since all Windows contains its Windows specific boot loader (typically ntldr) pointer within its PBR (partition boot record).
You can however re-install grub within Solaris or Linux PBR instead of MBR so that they can be invoked from chain loading from Windows boot.ini or any third party boot loaders.
Unfortunately GNU grub makes various inconsistent boot scenarios since it writes menu.lst based on disk and partition hierarchy based on BIOS presented order at time of OS installation and has no ability to dynamically rewrite OS location in menu.lst thereafter even though its binary is able to see disk and partition hierarchy change on the fly. Therefore it hands wrong partition information of OS boot kernel image location simply following old menu.lst. That is why Solaris GUI based interactive installation omitted such options to install on a disk other than boot disk set from BIOS.
I do not have any working knowledge of other versions of grub even though their newest versions are 2.x. since the current Solaris and most other Unix like OS including Linux all use grub version 0.9x, If you want to install Solaris or Linux on the disks other than boot disk, then you need a BIOS that can easily re-assign boot order or hide the disk if you install Solaris on the second or third disk in the system that has multiple disks.
Back in Solaris 8 generation, there were debian and slackware linux kernel 2.1.x which can compile to mount, read and write access to Solaris version of ufs (Unix file system). But forget it with current Linux kernel 2.6.x. To boot Solaris manually from ufs version of grub is not as difficult as linux. Solaris kernel name is easy enough to memorise since it does not contain complicated version numbers and decimal points like linux. Good thing about manual boot from grub prompt will bypass wrong 'menu.lst' entry and gives you a chance to re-edit wrong 'menu.lst' entry.
There are no third party boot loaders I know of capable of re-editing Solaris menu.lst dynamically however installing System Commander or Ranish Boot Manager may help understanding various boot techniques. These third party boot loaders require a fat16 partition for its own use or shared with fat16 compatible OS for maximum flexibility since they need to store images of PBR, MBR, real and virtual partition tables, boot codes and the like in its OS management/tracking directory. System Commander can dynamically rewrite boot.ini after each partition change but such capability is limited on Windows platform only.
Learning of manual grub setup or unix/linux 'dd' command to back up MBR would always be great help to restore system after Windows wiping out grub or other boot images.

  • Implementing replication in Oracle 10&11 Standard Edition

I am implementing an oracle based application which will run under Linux/Oracle 10gr2 standard edition and which will soon be upgraded to Oracle 11g standard edition.
One of the requirements of the application is that a hot standby must be provided. To provide the hot standby, I must implement some sort of replication mechanism, but the nice replication features (data guard, streams, advanced replication, basic replication) are only available with Oracle enterprise edition.
    Two questions:
    1. It appears that I will be building a home-made replication mechanisms. I am planning on using insert/update/delete triggers and dblinks to trap database updates and propogate them to the standby server. (alternatively, may write them to files as SQL statements and have the second server load the files). Is their a better way to implement replication in Oracle SE. (esp. a feature of Oracle SE that I could be using to do this?).
    2. Oracle Advanced and Basic Replication are not shown in the Oracle 11 Editions Description web page which lists the availability of features across the various oracle versions. I assume it is still supported in Oracle 11, but is Oracle Streams now the "best practice" for implementing replication (i.e. instead of advanced replication?)
    Thanks in advance,
    Werner

    1) Having database triggers that use a database link is an exceptionally poor way of implementing a hot standby. If the database link goes down, or if the remote database is unavailable, the trigger will generate an exception and the parent transaction will be rolled back. Which means that the system is available only if both databases are available and the network between them is available, which is exactly the opposite of what a hot standby would be expected to provide.
    2) You most likely want to set up a manual DataGuard-like setup. Clone the database from one machine to another, keep the standby database in managed recovery mode, and copy archived log files from the primary to the standby periodically. You'll have to script that, of course, but that shouldn't be insurmountable.
    3) Basic replication (one-way materialized views) are available in the standard edition, but probably aren't the sort of thing you'd want to use to build a hot standby.
