I waninstall developer2000 & Oracle 8i in same machine
I want to install developer2000 on the machine in which oracle 8i enterprise server is already installed. Until the d2k is installed, the oracle 8i database works fine. But the moment i install d2k on same machine it gives error "The database Configuration Assistant is not being run from ORACLE_HOME set in the os environment. I have created two oracle home for each application viz. oracle8i for oracle server and orawin for d2k.
In the registy HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SOFTWARE->ORACLE the ORACLE_HOME env variable is set as c:\orawin. however within HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SOFTWARE->ORACLE there is another key ORACLE_HOMES and within this there are two entry ORACLE1 and ORACLE2 set with the value of ORACLE_HOME c:\orawin and c:\oracle8i respectively.
Thus either of oracle server or d2k only works. Please help me how do i run both of them in a single machine

You must use 2 different homes, and later you have to take care of your environment variables, and you must use only one listener in this case the highest version that is 10g.
Tell us: did you install in the same ORACLE_HOME?
Give us details.

Dear Friends,
I installed oracle 9ias. and then i hosted my form, report into that server . All was working properly.

then i installed oracle 9i database into the same machine
(as the oracle 9ias was installed)
at the instalation of oracle 9i database one error comes
and shows that Agent configuration Assistant Installation
fail.
but After installation of database it work properly.
there is no problem.
but when I try to run from through web(by using oracle 9ias)
it gives Internal error(500).
i check and find that my appache server for 9ias is working properly and in services of windows 2000 no error comes.

Multiple Oracle Clients on Same Machine for different apps
I was not able to find info that answered this so sorry if I missed something that explains this.
At our site we have many applications some I know lots about some I'm not even aware of because we have mulitple sites. The application I develop uses an Oracle 8.1.7 database. In the next year we are going to be upgrading to a 9i database. The app I program for is written in VB and uses 0040 with the 7.3.4 version. We want to upgrade our client to the latest version to use all the features of the 9i database when that times comes. Can we have our 9i client on the same machine that may have other apps that require the 8i client or even the 7.3.4 client without breaking them? The other apps may or may not use 0040. Some of these apps are Oracle Forms applications and some can be anything under the sun.
I still need to do testing to see what breaks but thought someone may already have the answers some of my ?'s Any tips or info you can provide would be great.
ThanksTwo possible answers
1) Oracle added multi-home support to the Oracle client in 8i (may have been 8.0, I'm really not sure). This allows you to set up multiple 8i and above clients on a single machine in different Oracle Homes and should solve the majority of your problems. Having a 7.3.4 client installed wouldn't be supported, but 8i clients should have no difficulty connecting to a 7.3.4 database.
When Oracle added multi-home support, not all the Oracle client products were made multi-home compatible. The ODBC driver, for example, wasn't multi-home compatible until significantly later patchsets. I belive that OO4O has been multi-home compatible since the client has been, though.
2) From a technical standpoint, you should be able to have a 7.3.4 client alongside 8i and above clients. In my experience, this works, but isn't something that Oracle supports.

Hi All,
Does anyone know by experience or knowledge that temporarely installing Oracle on the same hardware as DB2 is installed on will result in any errors?
Regards,
EdoAs long as you are using different OS account, different path directories, configure the kernel parameters according to the requirements of boths, ..., there is no problem to have DB2 and Oracle db on same host.

ORACLE 10g and ORACLE 9i on same machine
Hi All,
I want to install oracle 10g and oracle9i database on same windows machine.
As far as i know i have install oracle10g and 9i on different oracle_home.
Any thing is required.
Regards,
Umairumair,
Install 9i into an ORACLE_HOME.
Install 10g into an other ORACLE_HOME.
Nothing more is required, only the Oracle requirements for each version.
Your attention when you will connect, set always the good ORACLE_HOME before connection.

Issue while installing TimesTen on the same machine as the Oracle DB.
Hi,
I am new to the TimesTen(TT) and facing the issue of installing TimesTen on the same machine as the Oracle DB(this is our project requirement ). I am trying to install on Solaris 32bit machine with 64GB RAM. When i installed only TT there is no issue. But I am not able to installed if I installed Oracle DB and after that I installed TimesTen on same machine.
Further if I tried to installed the TT with less size i.e.128MB along with oracle DB on same machine it installed successfully . But when i tried TimesTen with 16GB size it doesn't installed successfully along with oracle DB. Also, I tried to installed only TimesTen with size 16GB it installed without any error.
Could you please let me know what could be the possible reason for the above behavior.
Also i read in some threads in the same forum mentioning that "it is not recommend to installing TimesTen on the same machine as the Oracle DB as they can contend for resources (memory and CPU). Could you please elobrate more on this what kind of issues can possibly occur in this kind of scenario.
Please let me know in case more information is required.
Thanks in advance !!!
Regards,
SanjayCan you please explain what you mean by 'install' in this context? Memory size is not an installation time option with TimesTen. It sounds to me like you mean 'am not able to configure a TimesTen database to use xxx MB/GB of memory' rather than 'unable to install TimesTen'?
With a 32-bit operating system the largest TimesTen database you will be able to create is 2 GB. If you need a larger TimesTen database then you need to run 64-bit TimesTen on a 64-bit OS.
It general it really isn't a good idea to run TimesTen on the same machine as the Oracle database. Perhaps you can share what your overall objectives are? WHat are you looking to achieve by using TimesTen? If we understand that we can give better advice.

Problem Installing Oracle 8i and Oracle 10g client on same machine
Hi Gurus,,
I am new on DBAside....
I have already installed Oracle 10g R2.m planning to install oracle 8i on same machine..
What steps should i follow in order to avoid conflict..
The OS is Windows XP SP3....
I know that installing oracle 8i first and than installing oracle 10g is more convinient..But my requirements are different..
so have to install oracle 10g first and then Oracle 8i on same machine..
Thanks in anticipation.Hold on - it DOES matter - you shouldn't update new repository with old oracle installer, so be careful...

How to create multiple Oracle 9i instance on same machine?
Hi Gurus,
I would like to add second instance of Oracle 9i on same machine. What should I do? Please recommend me too.
Note OS: Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
Oracle: Oracle 9.2.0.1.0
Best regards,
Choosak B.First, are you sure you want to have separate ports? Normally, you would just run a single listener and register all the databases on the system with that listener.
If you do want to run multiple listeners, the listener.ora file specifies the port to listen on.

Can 10.1 and 10.2 database servers be installed on same machine?
This is probably a daft question, with the obvious answer of "of course you can't", but I'll ask it anyway.
We are currently running an Oracle 10.1g database server on a Linux machine (CentOS4 = RHEL4). The next phase of our development requires that we upgrade to Oracle 10.2g. However, we still need to be able to support our current release (uses OCCI) and we, obviously, need to provide for the ability to build patches. At the very least Oracle 10.1g include files and libraries must be retained.
I was wondering whether it would be possible to just install Oracle 10.2g on the same machine? The directory structures are product releated so both versions can co-exist. From viewing other forum discussions, I see that oracle will detect whether its default ports are already in use and suggest alternative ports to use. However, someone in our office (who has since left so I can't ask him what the problems were) has attempted to do this in the past without success.
I've looked at this machine (Linux - either RHEL4 or CentOS4) and all the services are using different ports, as expected. I suspect that one problem could be that both servers will attempt to use the same configuration files, eg /etc/oratab (although the system has been set up to use different oratab files).
Does anyone have any experience of installing multpile oracle servers on the same machine? Is it possible? Is it just a matter of making sure that you are talking to the correct listener when connecting to oracle, if multiple servers are installed?
Thanks for any information that anyone can give me.Hi ,
It is possible to install multiple version of oracle on the same machine.
Only thing while installing you have to give the new home for oracle apart from that nothing else.
Even in oratab you can have multiple oracle_home.
Eg:-
~~
abcd:/opt/oracle/product/10.1.0/db_1:N

Hello,
I have oracle 8.1.6 64 bit and oracle 10.2.0.2.0 64 bit
running on the same hp UX 11i 64-bit machine
I have installed Tuxedo 8.0 32bit on the same machine.
I have a working tuxedo 8.0 environment running against the 8.1.6 oracle
database
in the Tuxedo .../udataobj/RM file I have for the 8.1.6 environment the string
Oracle_XA:xaosw:-L${ORACLE_HOME}/lib -lclntsh
In oracle 8.1.6 home there are directories lib and lib64
but in oracle 10.2.0.2.0 home there are directories
lib and lib32
what string should I use for the oracle 10.2.0.2.0?
Oracle_XA:xaosw:-L${ORACLE_HOME}/lib32 -lclntsh maybe???
Must the string in the RM file for oracle always begin with the string
Oracle_XA?
If so is, possible at all to run the the binaries of one Tuxedo installation
against two different databases versions because the RM strings are similar in
the beginning but in 8.1.6 refer to the lib directory and in 10.2.0.2.0 refer
to the lib32 directory ?
Or do I need to have two installations of tuxedo8.0 binaries on the machine?
I have tried to for 10.2.0.2.0 the line (the Ora10_XA is only a try...)
Ora10_XA:xaosw:-L${ORACLE_HOME}/lib32 -lclntsh
in the RM file but when starting tuxedo I get:
$ cat /mnt04/edu/ressu/bin/xa_NULL06092006.trc
ORACLE XA: Version 10.2.0.1.0. RM name = 'Oracle_XA'.
111035.16584.0:
xaogetmod: XAER_INVAL; Invalid xa_info string.
Any comments on the matter appreciated.
rgds,
JyriJyri,
The information before the first colon in the $TUXDIR/udataobj/RM file is
only used by the buildtms, buildserver, and buildclient programs to find the
line corresponding to the value of the -r option, so it should be OK to
specify different values for Oracle 8.1.6 and Oracle 10.2.0.2.0.
The information specfied in the OPENINFO string in the *GROUPS section of
the TUXCONFIG file must be of the form
OPENINFO="ORACLE_XA:Oracle_XA+...."
The strings ORACLE_XA and Oracle_XA cannot be changed, except for case. The
"...." can be replaced with parameters such as
SqlNet=NAMESesTm=100+LogDir=.+MaxCur=5 or whatever is used in your
applicatino. The "xaogetmod: XAER_INVAL: Invalid xa_info string" error you
are getting is due to an incorrect OPENINFO parameter.
If you are running a 32-bit version of Tuxedo you must link with the
${ORACLE_HOME}/lib32 library on 10gR2; if you are using a 64-bit version of
Tuxedo you must link with ${ORACLE_HOME}/lib library. The procedure is
similar for Oracle 8 except that it seems that the lib directory may be the
32-bit library in that version of Oracle.
32-bit and 64-bit binaries cannot be mixed under a single TUXDIR, but it is
possible to use multiple RMs or multiple versions of the same RM on the same
machine.
The syntax of the open string and the list of libraries to link with is
specified in the "Oracle Database Application Developer's Guide -
Fundamentals" in the "Developing Applications with Oracle XA" chapter.

Hello All,
I have a dilemma.
I have a server that originally had 9i client installed.
We installed 10g and ODP .Net to gain use of some new funcionality used in .Net and batch processing.
Halfway through testing we realized that 10g's version of ODP.Net has a memory leak issue.
11g was found to correct this issue so we installed it on the server as well and it solved the problem.
Life was good.
9i, 10g, 11g, and ODP.net were all working well.
However, this was a test server. We now needed to go through the same installs for the production server.
On the night of the software install someone made a mistake and installed 10g on the test server again for the second time, after 11g was already installed.
So at this point the test server has:
9i
10g
11g
10g
And now many of the applications on the server are not working correctly and no amount of config changes seemed to fix it.
So we decided to uninstall 11g and then 10g and start over.
At this point we have 9i and 10g installed and the applications are working correctly.
We have tried to reinstall 11g and configure multiple times and 11g will simply not work.
I am stumped at this point. The application that actually does use 11g and ODP.Net simply stops executing at the point it attempts to open a connection with NO ERRORS.
An Exception does occur but there are no contents or error messages in the exception. I have never had this happen before. How do you fix an error you dont have?
So at this point I am just reaching out to see if anyone might have a suggestion. The next step might be to perform a system restore to the point where life was good (before 10g was installed a 2nd time after 11g).
Anyone?Thanks gdarling.
I was hoping to just start the thread and go from there as sometimes information overload makes people pass on reading the whole post. I am glad you still read it:)
To start off with here are the entries (unedited in my PATH variable):
E:\oracle11\product\11.2.0\client_1\bin;E:\oracle102\product\10.2.0\client_1\bin;E:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1;E:\Orant9i\bin;
I recently moved the 9i path back to the front in order to get the other applications on the server working again as some were erroring out with this when 11.2 was first:
*"OCIEnvCreate failed with return code -1 but error message text was not available"*
I searched for a long time as to the cause of this error but did not turn up much. Most of the posts just mention that the client was installed incorrectly.
Policy files:
I compared the assembly of the "working" server to the "bad" server and they appear identical as far as I can see.
Directories
-9i has one directory
-As you can probably see from the path, it still looks like there are 2 installations of 10g on the server. As well as remnants of three directories that resemble 10g install directories.
-11g has one directory
Couple observed behaviors:
1.
running sqlplus from the 9i and 10g directories works.
running sqlplus from the 11g directory results in the following error:
E:\oracle11\product\11.2.0\client_1\bin>sqlplus.exe
Error 6 initializing SQL*Plus
SP2-0667: Message file sp1<lang>.msb not found
SP2-0750: You may need to set ORACLE_HOME to your Oracle software directory
2.
Running tnsping works from the 9i and 10g directories
Running tnsping from 11g results in this:
TNS Ping Utility for 32-bit Windows: Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production on 13-MAY-2
010 09:32:32

Message 3511 not found; No message file for product=NETWORK, facility=TNSTNS-035
05: Message 3505 not found; No message file for product=NETWORK, facility=TNS
*(NOTE: THIS ERROR ALSO OCCURS ON THE "GOOD" SERVER)*
Registry:
There is a difference in the registry.
The "good" server has this entry in the ORACLE area:
KEY_OraClient10g_home1
KEY_OraClient11g_home1
where as the "bad" just has
KEY_OraClient10g_home1
Both servers have ODP.Net folder containing:
2.112.1.0
There are also other entires in this registry area but they are the same.
It wasn't our original intention to have all three clients on the same machine. Halfway through our system testing of a new process we realized the 10g has a memory leak which was corrected in 11g.
So we just installed 11g. These are supposed to be able to coexist right?
It sounds like we could have just installed 11g...
I am going to look into your suggestions.
As far as sysinternals I am a novice. And I am assuming it would need to be loaded on the server...is that correct? Or should I be using it on my local machine with the application in question running?
Getting more software (sysinternals) installed on the server might be a hurdle...
Thanks again -
