I want a different "From" email address!

Hi all.
I have an email address with my ISP and that is the address that I want people to use (call it "[email protected]").
But I use three machines (iMac, iPod and iPad) on which I want my emails to be synchronised.
Therefore, on all three machines, I have configured Mail to have a single account, my MobileMe account in which I have the email address "[email protected]". As a result, my emails are constantly synchronised. If I read an email on one machine, it appears as having been read on all three. If I delete it, it's deleted on all three machines.
In Mail configuration _on the iMac_, on the "Account Information" pane, there is a field called "Email Address"; in that field, I've entered "[email protected]", even though this account is really the MobileMe account. As a result, when people receive an email that I've sent from the iMac, the address they see in the "From" field is "[email protected]".
(I should mention that on the iMac I've configured Mail to use my isp's Outgoing Mail Server, i.e. something like "smtp.videotron.ca", not the "smtp.me.com" server.)
However, when I send an email from the iPod or the iPad, the address people see in the "From" field is "[email protected]". If they reply to the email, that is also the address that is used. I don't want that and I would like the "From" address to be "[email protected]", just like on the iMac. (On the iPod and the iPad, the smtp server is "smtp.me.com").
My question: *Is there any way to do this in Mail on the iPad and the iPod?*
Thanks!

It woiks! It woiks!
Hi all.
Finally figured (with your help, comments, etc.) a way to achieve what I was looking for.
All the emails I receive (at three separate addresses which are forwarded automatically to my address at me.com) end up in my mailbox at me.com; this mailbox is kept synchronised, via MobileMe, on my iMac, iPad and iPod. Whatever machine I'm on, if I open an email I've received, it appears (almost instantly) as read on the other two machines. Whatever machine I'm on, if I delete an email I've received, it's deleted on the other two machines. Again, almost instantly.
Here's how I did it in the iPad preferences for Mail, Contacts, etc... (for the iMac Mail config, refer to my original question):
(first, I took snapshots of all panes of the iPad Mail configs and emailed them to myself on the iMac so that I could go back, if I screwed up badly. Also, note that in between some of the steps, I turned the iPad OFF, then ON. I believe some changes only take effect on power down or up.)
1- I deleted all the accounts.
2- I created a new account of type "Other" and named it "Main account", with address "[email protected]", type IMAP, with Incoming Mail server "mail.me.com" with my MobileMe user name and password, and outgoing mail server as "smtp.videotron.ca".
3- I got a msg that it couldn't connect using SSL and accepted the offer to try setting up the account without SSL (which it did).
4- I turned ON Mail and Notes which were the only two options offered (not Contacts nor Calendar nor Bookmarks.
I then tested that I was able to send emails from the iPad and that on all three machines, the sender was listed as "[email protected]". I also tested the email synchronisation.
5- In iPad preferences for Mail, Contacts, etc. I created a new account, of type "MobileMe", using my MobileMe Id ([email protected]), but only activated Contacts, Calendar and Bookmarks, NOT Mail nor Notes.
That's it.
I'll replicate this configuration on the iPod and expect no problems there.
Thanks to all who participated; I hope this thread can be of some use to others.

How do I delete stored email addresses in my iphone? When sending photos, I don't want to have certain email addresses  "popping up" from the internal memory, I've deleted my entire "Contact" list but they still appear.  Help please!

As with the Mail app on a Mac, the iPhone's Mail app stores all email recipients in a list of previous recipients which is separate from the address book or contacts. The email address autofill feature when addressing an message pulls from Contacts and from the list of previous recipients.
Different from the Mail app on a Mac, there is no access to the list of previous recipients with iOS on an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad to remove a previous recipient from the list, or to add a previous recipient to the address book or contacts that is not already entered - not at the present time anyway.
The only way to purge the list of previous recipients at the present time is by restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, which will start being re-populated again with every sent message.

You would have to delete the existing iCloud account and create a wholly new one - you cannot change the @icloud.com email address of the one you already have.  To make a new one, you will also need an new AppleID as any AppleID can only have one iCloud account associated with it.
Deleting the account will not delete anything off your device (if prompted for things like contacts, choose to keep them).  You will have to sync everything anew with the new account as you cannot move your sync'd content, your old backups or anything else from one iCloud account to another.  You will have to set up sync again and let it sync to the new account, and then make new backups to the new account as well.

  • HT5622 When my daughter got her first iphone we set it up with my email address, she now has her own email & new iphone.  I want to use my email address for my icloud, can I delete the content  from the icloud account and continue to use my email?

When my daughter got her first iphone we set it up with my email address, she now has her own email & new iphone.  I want to use my email address for my icloud, can I delete the content from the icloud account and continue to use my email?

Yes, but be sure she is on a separate iCloud account with a separate ID before deleting anything.  Be sure there is nothing that you want to keep on your device too.  When you delete the data from iCloud it will be deleted from all devices signed into the account.  Then you can delete the data from the existing account by doing the following:
To delete the contacts, go to iCloud.com from your computer, log into your iCloud account and open Contacts, click on All Contacts on the left, to the right click on any single contact to select it, click on the Actions (gear shaped) icon at the bottom left and choose Select All, then press the Delete key on your keyboard.
For Calendars, open the calendar on icloud.com, click Edit on the bottom left, then tap the minus sign to the right of each calendar to delete it.
For Notes, open notes on icloud.com, click on each note on the left, then click Delete at the top to delete it.
For Reminders, open reminders on icloud.com, click on each reminder and press your Delete key to delete it.
For Mail, open your mail on icloud.com, click each folder on the left (such as your inbox), click on a single message to the right, press Control-A on your keyboard to select them all, then press your Delete key.  Repeat this for each of your mail folders except Trash.  When finished, click on the actions (gear-shaped) icon on the bottom left and select Empty Trash.
If you also want to delete your iCloud backups you can go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage on your device, tap the name of your device under Backups, then tap Delete Backup.

  • How can I find out the mail server from email address?

    Hi:
How can I find out the mail server from email address?
for example: If I know the email address is [email protected],
how to find the pop3 and smtp mail server?
    THANK YOU

You can't tell by the email address since you can pretty much put whatever you want in there (especially if the SMTP server is not filtering anything).
The header may be able to tell you something. There is a Received header value which looks like it has the routing information although I am not sure if this is a complete trace or just the last hop the message took.

  • How can I fake my FROM email address to look like I'm sending it from work?

I want to not have to log into my work webmail everyday and I want to just use MobileMe. I have all my work mail forwarded to MobileMe. The problem is that I don't want to ever have to log into work mail to send a message. How can I fake my from email address to look like I'm sending it from work?

You can't do that with MobileMe. MobileMe's mail servers will only accept senders from their own domains (@mac.com and @me.com). No other senders, not even from configured personal domains, will be accepted.
You will either have to use your companies SMTP server or, if not public available, your companies webmail.

I am trying to change my email address for an Apple ID and it is saying that it is already in use. I then sign in with that Apple ID and it says that the account is not set up yet, I don't want to set up the account, but I do want to use the email address in my original Apple ID! HELP!

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Once you have created a rescue address, you cannot delete it, nor can you change it to the same address as used by your ID. There are numerous providers you can get additional email addresses from, such as Hotmail, Yahoo, Google etc etc.

  • Is it possible to change the "From Email Address in workflow"

I have a created a task list and set a workflow for the list.
    Workflow Actions:
    1. Send a Email to the "Assigned To" user whenever a task is created.
    2. If the Task is due, send an reminder Email and even if its not completed, send a Email to the higher Management.
    Workflow is working fine.
    Issue:
The Email from address is the Email Address that has been entered in the SharePoint central admin Outgoing Email address.
I would need the from address to be of whomever has assigned the task to the particular person.
Let me know if its possible?

    Hi Alex,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to change the From email address in workflows.
The from address is set in the outgoing e-mail settings in Central Administration.
There is no OOB way to change it in workflows.
As a workaround, I suggest you develop your own workflow activity to do it.
Or, there is a CodePlex solution, it contains a Send Email Extended action which allows you to specify the sender, you can take a look at:

  • When I send a text to another phone, it shows up on the other phone as coming from email address and not from phone number.

I just came over from Sprint 4 days ago and had my number ported over. When I send a text to another number, it shows up on the other phone as coming from email address and not my phone number. For example, if the recipient of the text has me in the contacts as "Tom", the text comes to them displaying my email address instead of "Tom".

Welcome to our family. We want you to be able to enjoy all the services we provide and we definitely need to address this. Do you receive/make calls without problems? Are you able to receive messages with your contacts' number? Are you using iMessages? If so, go to Settings>Messages>Send&Receive>only your phone number should be enabled.

  • Can you use an .mac alias as "from" email address in .mac account?

My .mac account is in my full name @.mac and MAIL automatically uses that as the "from" email address when i send mail. Is there any way to use one of my .mac aliases instead?

For the email account preferences for any email account, there is a Name field which you can enter anything to appear as your name when sending a message with the account and there is an email address field for the same. With a .Mac account, you cannot enter a different email address to appear as the sending email address for a message sent by the account.
You can send messages from your .Mac account alias email address but the name you have entered for the Name field under the Account Information for your .Mac account preferences will be the name shown with the alias email address when sending a message with the alias.

  • Default 'from' email address

    Hi,
I use (and prefer) my +dot mac+ email address over the later +dot me+ one. My default email address from my computers when using Apple Mail app or Mobile Me via a web browser is set to my +dot mac+ address.
But from my iPhone, the default +sent from+ email address is the +dot me+ version. Friends and family are asking me which is my 'real' one - and I am concerned that spam filters etc. that are set to allow my +dot mac+ address will block emails sent from my iPhone.
Thus I want my iPhone mail to be seen as sent from my +dot mac+ address. But I can't find any way of altering the iPhone's settings.
    Can anyone help please.
    Thank you in advance

That's done it - thank you
I was nervous about deleting my account from my iPhone, but following your advice, I did so and re-activated as you described.
It re-synched without problem and now shows my preferred email address to recipients.
    Many thanks
