I want a matte display on a macbook?

HI there. I was planning on purchasing a black macbook but i want a matte display. I know it is only sold in glossy but is there a place where i can get the screen replaced?

Or, one of those privacy filter screens by 3M that limits the viewing angle, they are reversible with both glossy and matte sides. Here's some info on those options:

If you haven't found an answer yet. I know for a fact that this can be ordered directly from Apple at no extra cost
You can either ask for this when buying a new MBP at a "physical" Apple store, or as in my case in the UK the online Apple store allows such keyboard configuration in addition to 3 other languages like Spanish, German and French

  • MacBook Pro 15" Grainy Matte Display

The matte display on my new MacBook Pro has a grainy look to it. It's very noticeable. I'm curious if this is a defect or if all MacBook Pro displays are like this. To better describe the look... it looks like someone took a screenshot and applied the noise filter to it. It also looks like as if there's a lot of dust on the screen. Please let me know if anyone else sees this because if it's not right, I need to return it and get a replacement. Thanks.

I was using my MacBook Pro last night and I decided just to use it without staring at the bumps and I started to forget they were there. I think that if I just give it time, I won't even care or notice anymore. It's just weird for me right now because I upgraded from a 12" PowerBook and it just looks different now. I also noticed that the same effect is on my Samsung LCD monitor here at work but, the pixels are large enough that it doesn't diffuse as much. That's the main problem on the MacBook Pros. The pixels are so small that it doesn't take much to distort them such as a scratch or a fingerprint and obviously the matte finish.

  • TS1367 Is there are a way to use my imac as a display for my macbook pro? I have a thunderbolt cable but it doesnt seem to do anything

Is there are a way to use my imac as a display for my macbook pro? I have a thunderbolt cable but it doesnt seem to do anything

    Hello eassic,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like Target Display Mode may be what you are looking for:
Target Display Mode lets you use a Mac as the external display for another “primary” Mac. In some cases, you can also play the sound from your primary Mac on the speakers of the external Mac. For example, a MacBook Pro could use a 27-inch iMac as the display and play its audio on the iMac as well.
OS X Mountain Lion: Use another Mac as a display
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302
Use an iMac with Thunderbolt as a display
If you have an iMac with Thunderbolt, any other Mac with Thunderbolt can use it as a display. The iMac will play both the video and audio from the other Mac.
    1. Connect the Thunderbolt cable to the Thunderbolt ports on each computer.
    2. Make sure both Mac computers are turned on and awake.
    3. Press Command (⌘)-F2 on the keyboard of the external display Mac.
    4. If you want the external display Mac to play audio as well as video from the primary Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Sound, and then click Output. Select the external display Mac from the list of devices.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • How to connect a micro DVI display to a macbook

I want to connect a new 27" apple display to my macbook from 2008.
I can not find a mini DVI to micro DVI or thunderbold adapter. Does this exist or do I need to vonvert from mini DVI to HDMI and the to micro DVI ?
    Thanks in advance.

The FireWire cable is just for the FireWire ports on the display.  The display will run without it.

  • Can I use my iMac as a 'display' for my MacBook Pro?

Hi all, I am really hoping someone can help me here.
I am wondering if I can use my 24" iMac as a display for my MacBook Pro (both running Snow Leopard).
It's my father's 80th birthday party in about 24 hours time. I am doing up the music and slideshow (thanks Apple - so easy!).
My plan was to simply take my iMac and use it. However, I managed to drop the wireless keyboard (darn those dogs) and now my keyboard won't work. I have no backup keyboards here (gave the wired one to Dad to use with his Mac mini). I live in a country area with no access to a Mac store and it will take more than 24 hours to get a new one. Went to my local 'other computer' general store last night: I really don't want to buy an ugly black keyboard..... I have just had a great idea:
Can I network my MacBook Pro and use it as the source for the slide show and simply use the iMac as a display? I have plenty of DVI adaptors but am just not sure how I would go about the software side of things? Or should I simply buy an ugly PC keyboard (and if I do, will the WIndows button work as an Apple button???)
Any suggestions would be really appreciated.
    Thanks!

The imac 24 can't be used as a monitor over a DVI connection or the like, Suzanne, but you may be able to achieve what you want to using "Screen Sharing" by networking the two computers. This lets your MBP effectively control what is running on the iMac.
See HERE for the basic setup. For information about how to access the "shareable" screen from the MBP see HERE.
One possible problem may be actually getting this set-up on the iMac if it is not already enabled, however, unless you can borrow a keyboard from someone (your password may have to be entered to enable it). You may be able to get around this, if necessary, using the "keyboard viewer" (which you can place in the menubar using System preferences > Keyboard, if you don't already have it there).
    Cheers
    Rod

  • Is it possible to mirror the display on the Macbook pro which is two years old to my iMac which is four years old? Macbook pro is running OS X Lion 10.7.5 and the iMac is running OS X 10.6.8 (10K549). Neither of them have Thunderbolt ports.

OK, well I would go with what Apple says in writing but if you want to take a trip to visit the Genius Bar that won't hurt.
Good luck, I'm 99% certain  you will find I was correct but please let us know.

  • Can I use my tv as a display for my macbook air?

If i I bought Apple tv and plugged it into my tv, could i then use that tv as a display for my macbook air as if my tv were a mac display?
I have a macbook air but I dont want to buy a whole new display for it which is why i want to use my tv.
I do however want to purchase AppleTv
I am currently running snow leopard, but will update in a heartbeat to lion if needed.

Connect the Macbook directly through the TV using a Mini Display Port to HDMI ('With Audio' if needed).

You cannot connect the Macbook to Apple TV.

  • How to use the cinema display while your Macbook is closed

How do I use the cinema display while my Macbook is closed? Whenever I close the laptop the display shuts off as well. I really don't need them both to be on. That defeats the purpose of the external display. when I am home I want to use the laptop like it is the desktop computer.

I am using a MB Pro and a 23" cinema display. Have a wired USB keyboard and a USB wireless mouse connected through the keyboard. When the MBP is closed and when I restart it, the wireless mouse is frozen and the keyboard does not respond. I have to reopen the MBP, use the trackpad mouse, restart again and hope it will work closed. There doesn't seem to be a consistent way to make it work.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • Are there any new 17 " MBPs with matte display out which run properly?

    Hallo,
I am about to buy one 17 MBP with matte display. But now I ve read all these posts and
I hesitate to order one. I don't want to have all the trouble to send it back and then wait
again. So, are there any guys who can not report these graphic issues?
    Yours
    Matthias

CD = Core Duo, the 1st generation of 17" MBP from way back in 2006. It was flawless when I got it. It's still running perfectly 3 years later. Only issue was a bad battery, and that was a known manufacturing problem at Sony that affected Macs as well as PC laptops. Apple extended the warranty to cover the issue, and replaced mine for free ~3 months after my one-year warranty expired. Two colleagues have the new 17" unibody MBP, one with glossy and one with matte, both are flawless.

  • Display Option: "anti-glare" or real matte display?

I just learned about the new option for an "anti-glare" display on 15" MBP. Haven't yet seen one with this option.
Is the option actually a different display, like the matte displays of previous MBP generations - or - a glossy display with some kind of anti-glare feature added to it?
    TIA

Seriously, I don't understand the post about the silver-bezel being ugly. First off, as important as aesthetics are, in the price range of the Macbook Pros, functionality should come first. Plus, all Apple's computers are of the highest build quality. Secondly, the pictures online do the silver-bezel no justice. I just bought a 15" 2.8 anti-glare Macbook Pro this Saturday, and let me tell you, it rocks! And honestly, I can say I like the silver-bezel more. It matches the body nicely, and looks very, very professional.
The color is amazing on these anti-glare screens. I have used nothing but anti-glare screens in the past, and this one is that much better. Seriously! I think the fact that it is also a LED LCD helps tremendously. The colors are rich and vibrant. They just don't "pop" like the glossy screens. It's much more realistic as well, in the comparisons I did at the Apple Store.
Whatever you do, don't get too sucked into the "cool" factor, or what everyone else has. Most people have the glossy screens because:
    a) They weren't available for the 15" models until August.
    AND
    b) The 13" (the most popular Macbook Pro) doesn't have the option.
So of course, most will tell you it looks better, it is better, yada, yada, yada. Some probably really do like them a lot, and others probably have no idea or are just commenting on what they have. If you check the two out side-by-side, I doubt you will still think that the anti-glare is ugly, nor inferior.
And, the anti-glare is actually usable at dimmed settings, which will help you take advantage of battery life! Seriously, if you get the glossy be prepared to have the lighting at almost full with every use. Unless of course, you enjoy gazing at yourself while computing.
Either computer will serve you well, I'm sure. I am new to Macs, and thoroughly impressed! As I said before, this computer rocks!

  • Is there a mbpro 15 retina with matte display?

I wanted to know if the new MBPro 15 retina are arriving also with matte display.....?

Not to be found.  The retinas are not as glossy as the glossy MBPs but are not as 'matte' as the as the glare MBPs.  Neither chicken nor fowl.
    Ciao.

  • Choosing a DISPLAY for my Macbook Pro

In the need to be more mobile, I am going to be selling my iMac for a Macbook Pro. Only thing is I don't want to sacrafice screen size in exchange, so I would like to have a decently similar size display as my iMac right now when working at home on my desk.
So I'm looking to get a display along with my Macbook Pro, obviously the first apparent option is the apple cinema displays. But my question is are there off-brand monitors (i.e. LED displays from Sony, Samsung, Vizio, et cetera..) that would do the job. Because for the price of the apple display, I could get a much larger off-brand one.
I don't want to sacrafice display quality or pixel clarity though. I also am not sure if those off-brand displays have slight video lag? For example, when audio is sync'd with video, or when playing a game?
If there is anyone who has dealt with this issue and could provide me with some beneficial feedback, please let me know!

Third party screens work just fine, and you can get anti-glare models too, so your not fighting reflections like on the Apple ones.
You'll have to search online for computer monitor compairions and choose one that's best for you in price, size and affordability.
Apple has all sorts of adaptors for their video ports, so do your research there and the video OUT capability of the MacBook Pro your deciding on.
I HIGHLY suggest the 2.2 Ghz 15" MacBook Pro or higher, as this has the RADEON 6750M video card which can pump out more pixels to your external monitor.
Anti-glare on the MacBook Pro is also recommended as it's a portable device and you can't control the enviroment everywhere you go to reduce the reflections on the screen.
    Good Luck

I want to watch a rented movie from iTunes to a television (via an HDMI cable) but it comes this error message:
This film can not be played because a display is connected, which is not authorized for reproduction-protected movies.
I have now written to the TV company, she said that I should disable the screen of my MacBook and try again.
Make sure that the displays are NOT Mirrored.
    It may be complaining about your HDMI adapter;
Note: If you are trying to view HD video on an external display, the display must have a digital connection (DVI, DisplayPort, or HDMI) and also support HDCP.
