I want a PVR!

alright, I've been having problems like crazy and I hate the PVS now.  Everytime I try to install it I get the "Remote Procedure Call failure error", but my Windows is installed on the C drive.  After installing I have to go through the regestry to find and delete registries or do a system restore if I want to uninstall.  whenever I run the program I get a "Memory could not "write"" error.  Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do?  I would like to bew able to pause TV, but so far I'll I've ever been able to do with this card is watch it with ChrisTV after jumping through way too many hoops.  I have a 2.8 Ghz. Northwood P4, Windows XP SP 2 (installed on my C: drive), 512 DDR 2700 RAM, and MSI TV@NYWHERE Master.

Perhaps, you should check your ram.
This sounds like a corrupt ram module problem... NOT a msipvs problem.
I dont know what else could you try...... hmmm...
check for motherboard bios update.
Done, my motherboard hasn't had any updates since last one I installed.
check all devices for updated drivers. ie: sound video etc
Done, I keep those updated for games.
do all windows udpates
Done, I have it on automatic and have checked (and installed most of) the optional ones
install ms antispyware, spydoctor, and spybot s&d, do all updates to progs, do full system scans.
I've had MS Antispyware for a few weeks now, Spybot for over a year, and Avast protection, and do regular scans.
After you have eliminated all of these things,
THEN blame msipvs...  There are far too many good installs around here to blame it right away.
I have eliminated all those things... so now all I'm left with is to blame the software?  What about blaming the hardware for not working with other programs or in Linux?  Why not blame MSI for failing me bad.
I've read somewhere in this forum that occationally one must return their vox for a new one,
this might help.
vox?  I'm not sure what that term is.  But since I can get my card to work with ChrisTV and Zapto I don't think it is a card problem.
And if is far past the return from the company I bought it from, can I somehow do an exchange with MSI directly?

  • I have a PVR which supports DLNA connected to my home network.  I want to access files on my MacBook from the PVR.  I understand that my MacBook doesn't support DLNA. Is there any 3rd party  software that I can install on my MacBook to provide DLNA?

    Hi,
    Can anyone help me please.
I have a Personal Video Recorder (Humax HDR-1010S), which supports DLNA, connected to my home network via Wi-Fi.
I want to play music from iTunes and view photos from iPhoto from my MacBook (which is also connected to the home network) via the PVR / TV / Home Cinema sound system.  I understand that my MacBook (running OS X Mavericks) doesn't support DLNA server.
Is there any 3rd party  software that I can install on my MacBook to provide DLNA server?
    Thanks,

My recollection is that the iPhoto library has some fairly robust protections to prevent inadvertent or even deliberate changes being made that might have unwanted consequences. I'll take alook at my setup and let you know if I can see anything that might help you. Even if you get Serviio to "see" the iPhoto library, it almost ceratinly won't show the album structure and names. What I did is to export each iPhoto album to a standard folder with the appropriate folder name. These I keep on an external backup disc and Serviio can see these without trouble.

  • I want to hard wire my Bell TV PVR to the Internet.

Hi everyone, I need to hard wire my Bell TV PVR to the Internet in order to download movie purchases. I don't have access to the Internet where the TV is located in the house. Could I use a AirPort Express Base Station and plug the ethernet cable from the PVR to the base station? I have my Airport Extreme setup up stairs in my den.
    Hope you can help.
    Cheers

If your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is an 802.11n model, then you can configure it as a wireless Ethernet bridge. Apple calls this configuration a ProxySTA. In this configuration, the AX would join the wireless network provided by the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) and its Ethernet port would be enabled for the Bell.

  • A Mac Mini PVR

I recently purchaed a Core Duo Mac Mini with 80 GB HDD and 2 GB RAM. One of the reasons I wanted a dual-core processor was because I wanted to watch and record television on my mac. I also purchased a 160GB Lacie Mini Firewire HD with the same thought. So, I have been doing some research, and the following are the only devices I could find that would provide a relatively painless TV-watching experience on the Mac:
    (1) Miglia TVMicro ($99) - Only Analog, No Digital, Software encoding
    (2) Miglia TVMini HD ($249) - Only Digital (ATSC/ClearQAM), No Analog, No encoding (either software or hardware) - records unmodified signal
    (3) EyeTV Hybrid ($149) - Digital (ATSC) and Analog, No encoding - signal is recorded as is, Provides 3 quality presets.
    (4) EyeTV 250 ($199) - Only Analog, No Digital, Hardware encoding. Provides 7 quality presets.
The only channels I am interested in watching are the regular OTA local channels here in the US. So, here are my questions:
    (1) My regular Radio Shack analog provides very poor quality analog channels so I am assuming that if i want to watch local channels in good quality, my only option is to watch them in HD ?
    (2) Am I correct to infer from the above data that there is no device that can receive such HD broadcasts but do the encoding/compression in hardware instead of taxing my mac's CPUs ?
    (3) What kind of CPU loads are we talking about here ? I imagine my most frequent use of such a device being the TV running in a small window on my 20" LCD while I work. Is that easily handled by the Core Duo Mac Mini ?
    (4) What are the file sizes like for these devices ? How much space would a 1-hour HD show take ? Since I would mostly be recording just to watch them and then delete them, I would imagine that the lowest quality would suffice for my purposes ?
If you have one or many of these devices, please weigh in with your experiences. Or if you have found a way to watch TV on the mac with a different setup, please feel free to enlighten me in that case as well.
    Thanks.
    PowerBook 15, 80GB, 1GB & Core Duo Mini, 80GB, 2GB   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Well, this isn't the answer you are looking for I think, but I'd thought I'd throw it out as an option.
I've been using a Mac as a PVR for quite some time. This is a bit more cumbersome, because it's not exactly an all in one solution. I record straight from my cable box via firewire. I use iRecord to capture the streaming data, and IRecord has some good basic functionality including able to switch channels on the cable box and basic event recording (weekly, weekdays, daily, etc.).
I use VLC to playback the streamed content, and the best part is that I can watch a current recording as well. I suppose the actual best part was that it didn't really cost me more money (I could have been just as content by paying $10/month for PVR functionality on my cable box). Oh, and I use MPEG Streamclip to archive any recordings in h264 format. Another downside, I can't record any encrypted programming (not sure about paid Premium channels yet though)
So basically, iRecord sets up all the recordings, and I use VLC to watch it. Of course the best part about this setup is that there is no taxing CPU task of compressing video since it's just capturing streaming data. Only taxing part really is watching it, and especially with HD, I really had to upgrade to an intel Mac Mini. My G4 Powerbook was getting way overworked trying to playback any HD recordings.
Otherwise, EyeTV Hybrid is the best bet.

  • Time Capsule with HH3 but want to still use HH3 Wi...

    Hi folks,
I'm thinking about getting an Apple Airport Time Capsule (2013 version) but need to check compatability with my HH3 first.
I've seen other posts here regarding TC and HH3 but not specifically for the configuration I want.
I only want to use the TC for backup and do NOT want to use it as a Wifi router.
I want to continue to use my HH3 for my Wifi network (mostly because I dont want to reconfigure all (10) of my computers with a new Wifi password).
I'm thinking the best way to set this up would be to switch OFF the wifi on the TC and connect it directly to the HH3 using an ethernet cable. In that setup would computers connected to the HH3 via Wifi then be able to see the TC?
Or is there a better configuration?

    Hi.
I have a Time Capsule and have it configured in a similar fashion with my HH4. I still use Airport Utility 5.6 and in the Internet section if you set the Internet Connection Sharing to "Off (Bridge Mode)" it will disable DHCP and any device you connect to it will get its IP address from the HH. It will be visible to any other device on the network. As you say by switching off Wireless Mode you can continue using your HH for this, although the wireless capabilities of the time capsule can come in handy. I have used it to set up a "guest" network and I have also used it in WDS mode to use an Airport Express to extend my network to a non wireless device (PVR) rather than using homeplugs.
    Hope this helps.
    Andy.

  • The most awful pvr box I have ever had the misfort...

I got BT Vision a few months ago and have, right from the start, been frustrated by the terrible box. I've been using pvrs for many years, my favourite manufacture is Humax, fwiw.
    BT box good points:
The padding where it will pad programmes that start one after the other on the same channel - the box will pad either side of both programs.
BT box bad points: - here goes:
Terrible remote reception - point the remote at anything other than the box and it might work - point it directly at the box, and it wont.
Doesn't work well with aftermarket/replacment remotes - I have a Logitech Harmony One remote that has, up until now, worked with every single item I have programmed it to. Not with this box though.
Sluggish remote response - when fast-fowarding through adverts and pressing play to resume, a lottery ensues as to the replay point. It might be 12 seconds after the point when you press play, or 1 minute before you pressed play.
Bad reception? I constantly get messages about poor/low freeview signal via this box, however, the two other pvrs (both dual tuner) and dtv never have any problems with signal - they all report a signal strength and quality of 10/10.
Menu. Who designed the menu? Imagine a list of 10 things. On every other single item I have ever owned, if I'm at the top menu item and I want the bottom menu item, I simply press the 'up' button to scroll from the top directly to the bottom. It's not rocket science, surely? Not on this box. To get to the bottom you have to press 'down' several times - this is made all the more difficult due to the FACT that this box is terrible with remote reception. This is the worst thing about the menu system, but the rest is equally unintuitive. Getting into menu options is incredibly fustrating.
Constant hanging - I'm finding that this box needs more resets than most others I have owned - kind of interrupts your viewing, no?
Sound - the sound stage constantly distorts, calling for a rewind to reset the sound. The box is connected via S/PDIF to my DSPAX640SETII amp that works fine with all the other connected equipment.
Apart from that, it's great. Not.
    Comments?

Terrible remote reception - You may have a problem with your remote. OR, there is other AV eqpt interfering with the signal (like a light auto sensor on your TV).
Not one of my other 9 items has this problem
Doesn't work well with aftermarket/replacment remotes - No, it doesn't.
Sluggish remote response - when fast-fowarding through adverts and pressing play to resume, a lottery ensues - you're pressing the FF button too many times. It has 2xFF, 3xFF, 4xFF and then an uncontrollable super 4xFF.
No I am not. I'm fully versed on how multi speed works thankyou very much. Even 4xFF (in your parlance) causes the lottery effect.
Menu. To get to the bottom you have to press 'down' several times - No you don't. Simply press the volume button down to get to the next bottom screen. Or up to go back.
On every single other item I have ever owned, to scroll to the bottom of a selected menu is acchieved by pressing the 'up' key. Every single one.
    Let me demonstrate:
You press the menu button and the below appears, with 'play' highlighted:
    Play
    Settings
    Picture
    Audio
    Info
On every single product I have ever owned or used, to get to 'Info' from 'Play' is done by simply pressing the up key once. On the BT Vision box, you'd have to press 'down' 4 (or in reality, 7or 8) times to get to 'Info' from 'Play'.
Constant hanging - You may have a problem or fault with your box/internet connection.
I have no problem with my internet connection.
Sound - I cannot comment on this. The Vision box only uses Dolby 5.1 surround Sound for On Demand films only. So I do not have my box connected to any external AV eqpt.
    Well - it does.
Hope you get all the above resolved.
    Me too
    Rank - Mostly Harmless.

  • Help: do i really want an Apple TV or a Mac Mini?

    Hi,
I have an iMac and Airport Extreme base station upstairs in the den. Downstairs in the rec room I have a 46" LCD HDTV.
    I'd like three things.
    1. I'd like to rent movies from iTMS (can't in Canada); and buy/rent American TV shows from iTMS (can't in Canada)
    2. I'd like to be able to watch video files in the rec room that are on my iMac. (Currently I burn them to a DVD and watch them on my DIVX-capable DVD player, but the image quality ain't great.)
    3. I'd like to be able to browse the web from my rec room
Trying to decide if I want an Apple TV or something else (like a Mac Mini). Here's my thinking:
Apple TV, PROs: awesome interface, HDMI out, can stream video files from my iMac or a hard drive on my Airport Extreme base station.
Apple TV, CONs: no movie rentals in Canada yet, no American TV shows in iTunes store in Canada yet, have to convert DIVX files to Apple TV compatible format, cannot browse the web with it
Mac Mini, PROs: can use Front Row to watch video files, can use Safari to browse the web in my rec room
Mac Mini, CONs: more expensive, no HDTV and 5.1 audio out
    So my questions are:
Q1. is there any chance that Apple TV will provide me with access to the Safari web browser any time soon?
Q2. is the video output on a Mac Mini to my 46" LCD good enough; or is it crap compared to the HDMI out on Apple TV?
Q3. will iTunes store sell America TV shows in Canada soon?
Q4. will iTunes store rent movies in Canada soon?
Q5. will Apple TV support DIVX files soon?
Q6. if I buy an Apple TV will I regret getting the 40Gig version?
Q7. if I buy an Apple TV will I regret it because there's going to be a new PVR version of Apple TV next year?
ANY HELP OR OPINIONS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED! THANKS,
    slegge

Here are my stabs at answers
    1) Probably not. This can be done but you'd have to hack it which isn't suggested.
    2) It's the same output. The only difference between HDMI and DVI is that HDMI carries audio as well. A mini outputting at 1920*1080 will look as good as an ATV outputting over HDMI.
    3 + 4) Who knows. My guess - unlikely.
    5) Not likely. You'll need to pick up something such as Visual Hub to convert files to ATV format. On the other hand, a mini can play these files already.
    6) That depends on how often your computer is on. In my case I own the 40 and don't mind it a bit - my mac mini is always on so it can stream anything from my mini to my Apple TV over my network. Streaming movies takes about five seconds to get started but after that I've had no trouble.
    7) That's a possibility given that they've submitted patents for an idea such as that - but remember many patents never turn into anything.
Basically I think the mini vs. Apple TV comes down to $$$ and how badly you want to rent HD movies. A mini (via Front Row) can do anything an Apple TV can do plus a whole lot more (play many more formats, higher resolutions, etc.). The only thing it can't do is rent HD movies. I would have sprung for another mini if I could have afforded it.

  • Hauppauge HD PVR Rev F1 requires modified v4l-dvb?

I have used a Hauppauge HD PVR (a USB video capture device) on Arch Linux in the past without problems. I just purchased a unit for myself, but I am unable to get the hdpvr module to load. Some research reveals that this newer model (revision F1) is still compatible with the hdpvr v4l module, but it has a slightly different ID and requires a minor hack to v4l-dvb/linux/drivers/media/video/hdpvr/hdpvr.h and v4l-dvb/linux/drivers/media/video/hdpvr/hdpvr-core.c as described here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p= … stcount=12
The only problem is, I have no idea how to rebuild the very same v4l that my arch currently uses. I did try using hg to snag the latest version of v4l, but "make" only resulted in a bunch of errors whining about too few arguments to some function.
What is the best path to take at this point? Is there anyone here who could make this minor modification to hdpvr for me?

Yes, compiling the kernel from source worked.  I followed the instructions in the wiki
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kernel_Compilation
At step 1.2.2 Changing build(), I uncommented "make xconfig".  Then, when running makepkg, when the xconfig opened, I minimisied it to make the necessary changes to the source files hdpvr.h & hdpvr-core.c.  Also, if you want IR remote support, you must apply the patch
    http://wilsonet.com/jarod/junk/hdpvr-ir … -tip.patch
Then I just went back to the xconfig window, opened the default arch kernel .conf file, and let it compile.  I did change the package name, so after installing it, edited the grub menu.lst file and rebooted to the new kernel.
    More details here
    http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Hauppauge_HD-PVR
No need to recompile LIRC, at least currently.  Hope this helps someone.

  • Connecting Motorola PVR to EyeTV via Firewire

I didn't know where to post this, and thought that this was the most appropriate place. I am trying to connect my Motorola Converter Model DCT6200/1000 PVR to my EyeTV on my Mac OS X Snow Leopard Minimac. As of yet, I haven't been able to get anywhere with this. I have bought a Firewire cable and have plugged them in together, but am now lost. Could someone enlighten me on how to do this?

    Hi Josh,
If all you want to do is temporarily transfer data quickly from one Mac to another then FireWire Target Disk mode would be the way to go:
How to use FireWire target disk mode
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
If you want to create an ip over firewire network, the following will guide you:
    Using IP over FireWire
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=152307
However, you should be aware that some devices may not work:
Mac OS X 10.3 and later: IP over FireWire may prevent using other FireWire devices
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300742
The best option would be to create a normal network using an ethernet cable.

  • Create PVR texture from png file

    Hi,
I have one image file in png format. I want to create texture out of that image. To convert into texture format .pvr I am using following command:
    $ ./texturetool -e PVRTC -o ./image.pvr ./image.png
image.pvr file is getting created but with zero bytes file size. I loaded and tested it nothing comes blank screen.
Please tell me syntax of conversion from png or jpg to .pvr.

I am using this code to load created texture:
    NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"image" ofType:@"pvr"];
    NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:path];
    textures[kTextureone] = [[Texture2D alloc] initWithData:[data bytes] pixelFormat:kTexture2DPixelFormatRGBAPVRTC4 pixelsWide:512 pixelsHigh:512 contentSize:CGSizeMake(512,512)];
    Not getting texture.

  • Eyetv pvr applescript

well after some weeks of playing I have 2 applescripts that are scripted to give PVR like features to a eyetv equiped mac.
    2 scripts are published here:
    1) radiotimes - download all of the freeview channel information from the publicaly available radiotimes.com website, generate "listing" type channel information and search these listings for user specified programs (by title), then automatically insert these programms into the eyetv schedule.
    2) monitoreyetv - a script that looks at the eyetv task every 5 mins or so, then sleeps the mac when the eyetv task falls below 5% of the processor useage.
so by setting eyetv to wake the mac from sleep automatically and running my monitor eyetv script we have a system that will sleep-wake-sleep when a programm needs recording.
by running the radiotimes script periodically (2 weeks worth of listings are processed at a time) we can automatically "series link" a programm we are interested in.

    Hi Steven
I've been playing around with your first script in this post & re-hashed it because I didn't like the idea of writing code for specifically each channel as they become available. So below is what I came up with (minus your part for searching for particular programs and setting eyeTV).
In my view this will allow users to just change a few things at the top of the script, rather than add blocks of code in the body for each channel. Downside is that the 'ChannelIDs' and 'ChannelSource' (the channels and specific web page) need to be accurately defined in the 'set' statements.
    Hope this is of value.
    It is as follows;

  • How to configure IP address for FTA (Nova's nFusion) PVR IP recording...

    Greetings Peers,
I just got my Time Capsule (TC) yesterday and absolutely have very limited experience with Airport Utility or networking - that said I somehow figured out how to setup a new secured wireless network and it is up & running!
I'm testing this absolute great Free-to-Air (FTA) satellite receiver called *Nova nFusion* where there is a functionality option to record your personal video (PVR) on a IP address.
Here's my dilemma, I have tried punching in IP address from what AirPort Utility (AU) displays for Time Capsule (TC) several times but receiver *would fail* to record anything!
I have tried to tweak general settings like enabling sharing in the manual setup for TC under AU but like I said I'm not an expert and it didn't work.
    Wondering:
    1) If anyone has success setting up similar PVR over IP?
    2) Is this even feasible? Honestly, I don't see why not? Cause I'm also planning to have move my iTunes library folder on TC so I could access it from my Mac Mini, iBook, AppleTV, etc. etc.
I have high hopes specially since I care less and actually do not want to utilize Time Machine feature at all! I'm sure you geniuses have already figured this out. Please HELP!!!
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated-
    Cheers!

    Tapori wrote:
I've been trying the IP address which shows up on the welcome screen of AirPort Utility but that could be very much TC's Router Address cause it's showing up in AirPort Utility?
How can I acquire IP address for TC's language 1TB Hard Drive? It can't be this difficult!
well, as i'm digging deeper, finding the ip address isn't the issue, it's getting your software to record to it, maybe a permissions issue?
is this open source? can i check it out and see if i can help you this way? if i can get my hands on it i'm pretty sure i'd be more help. if the software just needs an ip address, you got it... so there's another issue. it's in your internal network right? so internal ip's should be fine, no need to port forward...
    just brainstorming out loud.
Good suggestion but how do you assign a static IP to a Mac Mini which is on the same network (both wiredly and wirelessly connected to TC)?
open network prefs, select your ethernet connection, configure: using dhcp with manual address, enter ip address (even if it's the same as your DHCP address, this simply assigns it permantly), click apply.
if you wanted to do this over the wireless network you'd choose the airport from the left, advanced, tcp/ip tab, configure IPv4: using dhcp with manual address, enter ip address (even if it's the same as your DHCP address, this simply assigns it permantly), configure IPv6: automatically, click apply.
the ethernet connection would have a different IP than your wireless connection to give you the option to switch back and forth while maintaining assigned connectivity elsewhere in your network (ie. pvr ip recording).
i'm just curious what permissions the pvr ip recorder would have, and where exactly it would record to... (as in which folder... as what user?)

  • Hard Drive Space/HD-PVR

Alright i have a important question to ask... I have a very old laptop, and Dell Latitude e-6400 i think, but the point is they dont make them anymore! I am buying a HD-PVR (Personal Video Recorder). It HAS to be on a fast running, good system and the laptop i have doesnt have that. I was considering buying an external hard drive which has 2tb storage capacity. Do you think this will operate properly and work smoothly if i have the hard drive hooked up to it?

Definitely not. External HDDs run slower than internal ones due to the use of a bridge interface (USB, eSATA, or Firewire) and you're not using a decent computer to begin with so it just won't work for you. If the PVR has a direct connection for external storage, then you can certainly go that route. Otherwise, you need a newer and far more robust computer for what you want to do.

  • MyTV.PVR vs EyeTV 250...Is there a winner?

    Hy everyone,
I was looking for opinions regarding myTV.PVR vs EyeTV 250.
Without knowing much about VHS tranfering and recording digitally via Cable TV and before I found out about the existence of EyeTV 250, I purchased myTV.PVR (which came with Eskape software). The salesman assured me that it was a good purchase but I guess they would say anything to sell products.
I told him that my intention was to transfer VHS tapes onto DVDs and also to record from Cable TV onto DVDs via my MacPro. I wanted to get the best video quality possible and something easy enough to use.
Now I'm wondering if I would have been better off with EyeTV 250 instead.
Which one gives better video and sound quality and has better options?
    Any opinions?
    Rio.
    2x2.66GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1GB RAM

I can answer. I've transferred about 300 vhs tapes over to DVD, AVI, MP4, etc.
Quality is dependent upon the quality of the VHS. I have VHS tapes that were created directly from digital video camcorder (medical procedures, surgery training) and the DVD quality is as good as any high quality commercial DVD. I have BetaMax tapes from the 70's and they burn to DVD from EyeTV as good if not better then their original quality. With EyeTV you have several quality options and can select Progressive Scan (which doubles the number of video lines for higher quality. You'll need at least 4Gigs of space for each VHS tape but once burned to DVD you can delete and move to the next.
Toast is the most superior EyeTV is built with Toast in mind. Simply drag an AVI or directly select Toast from EyeTV of any resulting VHS/Digital file that you capture and it will burn a fine DVD with Chapters, Titles, and more.
What I like most about EyeTV is the editing capabilities. You can cut out all the crap, re-edit the movie if you want to improve it (in case you are a budding movie editor yourself) and burn it to DVD.
As for easy - yes, it's pretty straight forward. If you have a two hour VHS movie, say a commercial release of an older James Bond (which is non-Macro, i.e., encrypted) movie it will take two hours to record it. Once recorded you can then edit the items you don't want (warnings, junk...) save the edited file (very quickly) then click on the EyeTV Toast icon and burn it to DVD. If using Progressive Scan you'll get a very high quality DVD. How much time required to burn the DVD depends. If you are using a 3Ghz Mac Pro with 8 Gigs of RAM (my system) it takes about 20-30 minutes.
If you have commercial VHS tapes that are encrypted (MacroVision is used) you'll need to obtain what some sellers call "an enhancer". This is small machine (size of two packs of cigarettes) that sits connected via RCA cables or via SVideo and reconnects out the opposite side to EyeTV, then your video is automatically decrypted.
The resulting DVD quality is "enhanced" and you get a fine quality DVD.
If you are copying over films or TV shows that you have recorded on VHS tapes then the quality is about as good as SVCD, depending on how well your antenna receives the signal. You'll have to cut out the commercials (easy to do with EyeTV) and the resulting DVD quality is as good if not a little better then the original VHS recording.
I did all of the above for about six months and finally realized I could copy a VHS tape via EyeTV and export it to high quality DiVX or AVI format which resulted in an average size of about 700megs. These media files play beautifully on a Mac using the DiVX player or RealMedia Player, QuickTime Pro, VLC and many more media players.
The nice part of the latter is that you can get four or five full high quality movies on a blank DVD. Thus, rather than four or five DVDs you get one DVD with for or five movies.
I hope this explains it all to you. Try buying a used EyeTV 200 off of eBay which is just as good as the EyeTV 250 and 500. They all use the latest EyeTV software and unless you have movies in High Density on VHS (which you won't) you don't need EyeTV 500 (that's what I have) but it does a fine job. Another Mac user that taught me much was a guy who bought a used EyeTV 200 on eBay for just $50. We exchanged DVDs we made from each system and they were both of excellent quality.

How do I use the ipad air as a PVR to record and later view internet videos.
I want to watch the canadian version at cbc.ca/sochi which is streamed in real time at least 10 hours later during daylight hours here not in the 10 hour shift in Russian time. The events tend to occur in  the middle of our night and I want to watch in our daylight hours.
Yes the events are rebroadcast later but I expect they will be general and not specifically covering Canadian competitor. Commentary etc will be different.

    You don't.
