I want a router in N-standard which support extend-function. Which product should I buy?

Hi.
I want to establish a new wireless network in my house because my old router are crashed after a stroke of lightning. My old router was a Netgear RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N (WNDR3300). I live in a big old house and my problem with this and my older Linksys router was that the signal could not reach in the ends of the house even though the router was placed in the middle of the house.
I have heard that you can extend the wireless-signal if you put an extra router (in extend/repete-mode) halfway to the end of the house and this without cables between the "main router" and the secondary router that you have set at extend-mode. Is this correct and if so which Linksys routers supports this extend-function in N-standard (I would like to have the possibility to stream music at the network and I have read that the N-standard would be best to this) and is it the same model I should by for the "mail router" and the router there may be in extend-mode?

The Linksys router will not work wirelessly with another router with the linksys firmware installed in it.You need hardwired both the router together or need to installed the third party firmware on it.I would suggest you to go for WAP200E Access Point which will work as repeater mode.

Instead of buying right away you may want to avail yourself of the free 30 day trial first to see which program fits your needs.
Photoshop and Photoshop Elements may be worth a try.
If you intend to create more graphic/typographic designs Illustrator may be worth looking into, too.

Private VLAN Promiscuous Trunk Port - Switches which support this function

Can anyone confirm if the "Private VLAN Promiscuous Trunk Port" feature is supported in any lower end switches such as Nexus 5548/5672 or 4500X? According to the feature navigator support seems to be restricted to the Catalyst 4500 range (excluding the 4500X) as shown below. If the feature is going to be supported in the Cat 3850 this would be good to know, thanks

My last computer had an Adobe program that allowed me to insert pages into a document and reduce the file size. Is there a product that can be added onto Reader XI that will allow me to do this and not spend $400.00?

Acrobat is the application that allows you to edit a PDF--including inserting pages and reducing file size. There's nothing that can be added on to Reader to give you that functionality. Which Colour Laser should I buy?

I have given up trying to get my Apple LaserWriter pro 630 to work with 10.6 so now I need to buy a new printer. Which reasonably priced colour laser printer should I buy?
I have a 27" iMac, a 24" imac, 17" Powerbook G5 and hopefully soon a second generation iPad which all need to print to the laser. The printer needs to take ethernet possibly wirelessly and USB would be a bonus. I don't have a very heavy usage but it must be capable of occasionally printing up to 200 copies.
On principle I wouldn't buy Dell after the 1997 comment!!
Do you have any suggestions?

There is a good discussion on Macintouch today about color laser printers, and how the cost of consumables can greater than the cost of the printer itself. You should keep that in mind as you consider your options. The print quality is very good on most of them, USB and ethernet is pretty standard, with wireless a common option these days. But it is not necessarily the case that a color laser is less expensive to operate than an inkjet. I have both, and I think they have about the same costs. I save the laser for multiple copies, and prints that need to be water resistant, but the inkjet is my everyday printer. The laser is faster for multiple copies. That is its big advantage, but it is somewhat mitigated now that I am trying to eke out extra pages from the cartridges.

MK.None. You don't need a reference manual yet; you need a book that actually teaches you something. So explain why you are learning Java at this point in your career and perhaps a more fitting book can be recommended to you.

I would like to do this at the router level for FaceTime? Only site I find in init.ess.apple.com - is this the startup site for Facetime? Does anyone know a site I can block, hostname or IP address that the FaceTime application uses? Or which port it connects to?

I would presume so, but it might be worth your while to experiment and play around with different combinations to see if you can block FaceTime while keeping Game Center open. Good luck!

When you want some router advice you need to be more specific.
A router does not include a DSL modem. So if your needing a box to replace a speedtouch then you need an ADSL router.
An ADSL router is a dsl modem and router combined.
You also don't specify who your isp is or what country your in.. This has some implications as if your in the UK for example some isp's use Annex M, ADSL2+ etc. Not all ADSL routers support these protocols and in the UK we use PPPoA IPoA and PPPoE. In other parts of the world only PPPoE is used.
So if you want an example of an all round box that works with 99% of the protocols it is the netgear DG834GT. However netgear now have a wireless N compatible router however I have not had any reports whether this box will work with apples wireless N. However in theory it should.
If you want a standard wireless router to use with an existing DSL modem then I would recommend the linksys wrt54G

I have been trying to use the video chat with my mom but it isn't working. On my end my house is wired for LAN so I have an Airport connected directly to the wall. On my mom's end she has DSL from Verizon and has whatever router they supplied. Her DSL comes through her phone line. I want to know if I can buy her a router that will solve some our connection issues.

At the moment the most important fact in this post is that at your end you have two devices that can route (at least)
You have an Airport device which by default will "Share an IP" which means it will do DHCP to your Lan and therefore your computer.
You describe the bit in front of this as a LAN which suggests another router somewhere or a modem that routes.
If it is a router we still have to eliminate the Modem as a routing device as well.
Please tell us the makes and models of the devices between you and the internet and how they are set up regarding DHCP and how the ports are opened ?
You should be aiming for One DHCP if you have one at all.
Ideally UPnP in routers and NAT-PMP in the Airport Device.
There are potential issues with NAT if the router can only do Port Forwarding and not UPnP as this will still mean two lots of NAT.
The Verizon DSL site does not seem to say which modem they supply

For the Westell 327W they suggest that the User's Online password and Online Password are the things to use to access it (or the Defaults of admin and password )
Basically it is not clear that you have tried all the options with the current devices.

I have a Personal Video Recorder (Humax HDR-1010S), which supports DLNA, connected to my home network via Wi-Fi.
I want to play music from iTunes and view photos from iPhoto from my MacBook (which is also connected to the home network) via the PVR / TV / Home Cinema sound system. I understand that my MacBook (running OS X Mavericks) doesn't support DLNA server.
Is there any 3rd party software that I can install on my MacBook to provide DLNA server?

My recollection is that the iPhoto library has some fairly robust protections to prevent inadvertent or even deliberate changes being made that might have unwanted consequences. I'll take alook at my setup and let you know if I can see anything that might help you. Even if you get Serviio to "see" the iPhoto library, it almost ceratinly won't show the album structure and names. What I did is to export each iPhoto album to a standard folder with the appropriate folder name. These I keep on an external backup disc and Serviio can see these without trouble.

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

This sounds like the age old problem with keychain & Safari. I don't know of a way to solve it without using something like 1Password.
The iOS app has it's own built in browser, so it has more control over what gets autofilled. Safari on OS X has an 1Password extension that handles account selection & autofill etc.
Keychain is great in principle, but it quickly falls down when you need tight integration with many ID's & different use cases (work, home etc).
I'd suggest you submit feedback to Apple about your thoughts. I did so years ago about this issue & this is how far we have come (back to the point where me.com synced passwords) :^)

Other tools like lastpass or keypassx may also help if you want to truly segregate password storage, but that doesn't fix autofill, the way around that issue is to dedicate one browser for work.
