I want BT infinity but....

I am after some guidance about the installation.  I understand the basics about the need for the Infinity modem to be connected to the master socket and the special data cable between it and the home hub but....
Here is the layout:
I have the BT line entering the house via a junction box adjacent to the front door.  From this point it is cabled to the master some 3.5m (probably 8m cable run up and down the walls) into the hall and this cabling is fully hidden as it was installed during the house build.  From the external junction box there is a 22m extension run around the side of the house to a rear bedroom / office where I have the ADSL modem / router presently installed.  The router serves both a WiFi network and cabled Ethernet in the house, hence it is difficult to move.  As things stand it would appear I need the Infinity modem in the hall connected to the Master with the data cable run around floors and doors upstairs to where the present router would be replaced by the home hub.  Frankly this would be a deal breaker as I do not want ugly cabling running around the house.  The layout is complex - please take my word it is not going to happen (whilst Mrs Blink lives and breathes!).  So my question is whether the master location can be moved from the present position to the upstairs extension?  I appreciate it would not be the closest point to the junction box, hence not the closest point to the termination between fibre optic and copper so the speed may suffer a little.  I have been quoted 26Mb but since I presently have 3Mb I suspect I will still be significantly better off.
and a second question - I assume I am correct in thinking that I can actually use any router with this?  The home hub looks okay but appears not to be wall mountable.  No big deal either way but just interested.
Thanks in advance for any (constructive!) replies to my first post.  Yes I did search but failed to find anything
Cheers
JB

Thanks for this, however I do not quite understand how you can do away with the junction box since the cable coming into the property is spliced at that point.  To try to be more descriptive, imagine a letter "T": four wires come in from the bottom (2 for each line) and are split left and right.  To the right, two wires (line 2) are terminated in the junction box and the other two join to the house wiring (ie the phone cable installed when the house was built) running to the master for line 1.  To the left, 4 wires (ie both lines) run round the outside of the house and up to the office.  There line 1 is terminated in a std socket and line 2 is terminated in the master.  So regardless of which of the line 1 positions is used as the master it will be directly connected to the incoming line.  So the question is now (and apologies if I am being incredibly dense here) are you suggesting that in a "T" shape layout as I have with a socket on each end of the horizontal line, if the "T" is not symmetrical, so the vertical line is not in the middle, the master must be connected to the shorter of the horzontal arms?  If that is the case then line 1 will have to run back down the house again to the junction box before going into the house to the old master position.  I am not sure whether there are spare cores in the cable used.
thanks for your patience!

  • I want BT infinity but can't tell if I can get it.

    Hi,
I really want a decent internet speed again.  I've recently moved to Rugby from London where I had 60MB fibre and, whilst it doesn't feel quite like I'm back on dial-up, it's not far off.
I've had a look through the forum and been on the open reach checker and it says that BT infinity isn't available in my area however, when checking on the 'rolled-out' list, Rugby is there.  I've also looked and I'm connected to Rugby cabinet 93 which shows up the following:

I've got a sinking feeling that I won't get infinity but wondered if the WBC ADSL2+ is something that I would be able to access (I'm assuming I've got ADSL Max but don't know how to check).  Does anyone know of a number that I can call to check if I am getting the best possible service from BT?  I've tried calling the guys over in India andm whilst they have been as helpful  as they can, I don't think they can really help me with my questions because I suspect they're not on the 'script'.
Would be great if someone could give me a hand here - would make my life seem normal again!
    Thanks

in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results .
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Exchange upgraded for Infinity, but online checker...

    Hi all,
not sure how simple this question is, but I'll ask it anyway as the online live chat with BT doesn't garner any useful info - they probably don't have it readily available.
I live in Fair Oak, and the exchange here, as well as Eastleigh, have been enabled for Infinity. Eastleigh is 2 miles down the road. My parents live in Eastleigh and they are able to get Infinity, but I'm not. The online checker states that it isn't rolled our here yet, but I know that Fair Oak exchange has been upgraded (again, another BT online checker states it has been completed already - as has Eastleigh)
My question is this; how long after an exchange is upgraded are all numbers migrated to use the Infinity service?
    Thanks

  • I have multiple devices that have my iCloud E-mail, I want to disable the E-Mail on some of the devices but keep it on others, I do not have physical access to the ones I want to disable but I do have access to the devices I want to keep receiving mc

I have multiple devices that have my iCloud E-mail, I want to disable the E-Mail on some of the devices but keep it on others, I do not have physical access to the ones I want to disable but I do have access to the devices I want to keep receiving mail, can I do this with a simple password reset or will that still leave all devices enabled?

The simple way would be to uncheck 'Mail' in System Preferences (or Settings)>iCloud, but as you would need access to the devices in question to do that you will have to change your password, at http://appleid.apple.com. You will then need to sign out and back on all the devices you want to be able to receive mail, and it's important that you follow this procedure and note the warning:
Firstly, if you have 'Find My iPhone/iPad/iMac' enabled on any of your devices, turn it off.
Go to http://appleid.apple.com and click 'Manage your Apple ID'. Sign in with the current ID.
Where it says 'Password & Security' and gives your current ID email address, click 'edit'.
Enter your new password and click 'Save changes'.
Now you will need to go to each of your devices and sign out in System Preferences (or Settings)>iCloud - 'Sign out' on a Mac, 'Delete this account' on an iOS device (this will not delete the account from the server).
Then sign back in with your new ID. Your iCloud data will disappear from your devices when you sign out, but reappear when you sign back in.
I re-iterate: before you start, turn off 'Find My Mac' (or whatever) or you will need the services of Support.
The devices on which you have not changed the password will throw up continual error messages as they attempt to contact iCloud and fail.

Your iPhone and iPod can share the same iTunes account.  Apps can be freely shared and used by one or both devices.  You can't use money in your iTunes account to pay for your phone, but purchased apps can be used by both the iPod and iPhone.

I have PIXMA MG5320  and I am running Win 8. Software cd does not install. I want to scan, but having trouble.
I insert USB stick into USB port on the printer.
I select SCAn and then select USB.  I select  " <i>" key. I do not find any data on the USB stick.
    What gives?
I cannot install the software  on Windows 8

    Hi jvandal,
The CD that came with the PIXMA MG5320 does not include Windows 8 drivers and softare, so you would have to download the drivers and software from our website.  Use the following steps to download the drivers and software:
Go to Canon's Support & Drivers website at:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer
Enter your model name into the Model Name field, then click GO.
Select your operating system in the Select Operating System and Select OS Version dropdown lists, respectively.
Expand the Drivers section by clicking the red triangle.
Click on the file named MG5300 Mini Master Setup.
After reading the details and disclaimer, click 'I Agree Begin Download' and save the file to your computer.
Once the download is complete, double-click the file from its download location to begin the installation.
Once complete, click the I Decline Go Back to return to the download page.
Expand the Software section by clicking the red triangle.
Click on the file named MP Navigator EX Ver 5.0.0.
After reading the details and disclaimer, click 'I Agree Begin Download' and save the file to your computer.
Once the download is complete, double-click the file from its download location to begin the installation.

  • I accidentally deleted my iPhoto when i empty my trash? i think 1year ago.i want it back but i heard that its difficult...my 2nd option is i'll buy iPhoto from apps. what do you think guys? thank you and god bless!

i accendentaly deleted my iphoto when i empty my trash. i think 1 year ago. i want it back but they say its difficult. now i think i'll buy iphoto to apps. what do you think guys??? ty and god bless!

A bunch of totally different questions
iPhoto is an application and it is in your applications folder - is it there? It must be in teh Applications folder on your boot drive - it can not be on an external drive
The photos are kept in the iPhoto library (by default and highly recommended) - is that what you deleted? It can be anyplace by by default it is in your pictrues folder
Time Machine is a backup program that backuse your your Mac - you do NOT directly access its backup files but you use the Time Machine application to restore files - see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US for details
Your post is not at all clear as to what you have or what you want to do
If in fact you do have a copy of the photos on an external hard drive as you say you thikyou do them you launch iPhoto and import them to iPhoto (file menu import  --  or drag them to the iPhoto icon in the Dock)
If you have a time machine backup of your iPhoto library and you want to use that then you launch TM and go to the time you wna tto restore from, select the iPhoto library and click restore
If the above does not cover what you have and what you want please post back with exact details of what you have and what you want to do

My ipod touch 3G got V4.2.1 and I want IOS 5 but it said that my ipod has the lates version. How I Update To Ipod IOS 5?

According to the requirements it appears you may be able to run it if you don't have the 8GB version.
The 8GB version was actually a snazzed up second gen with newer iOS software.
If it doesn't see it, the hardware probably doesn't support it.
First make sure you've updated iTunes, then check it again, and if it doesn't show, it probably won't run on it due to the hardware being too slow to handle it.

  • ITunes Match expired; I want to renew, but how?

I got the following email from iTunes Store today:
Your subscription for iTunes Match expired on 11/14/12. Your complete music collection and playlists in iCloud are no longer available from your iOS devices, iTunes, or Apple TV. You will still be able to download from iCloud any music you previously purchased on iTunes from the Purchased area of the iTunes Store. You can also sync your music to your iOS devices using iTunes for Mac+PC. To renew your subscription now, open iTunes on your Mac or PC and choose Turn on iTunes Match from the Store menu.
However, when I turn on iTunes Match from the Store menu, it behaves as it always has (as if iTunes Match had never expired), so I have no idea how to actually renew my membership.  I've tried turning iTunes Match off and on several times, but it never takes me to any sort of order/renew page.  I've also tried signing out/in on iTunes.  I definitely want to renew, but for some reason the Auto Renew did not go through (my payment details are fine, as I am able to purchase from the iTunes Store without a hitch).
Any advice?  iTunes Match actually seems to be working fine, but I don't want to wait for it to actually die before renewing.

Same. I want to renew, but no where to find. According to apple help pages, if you click account, there should be a place to select auto renew itunes match like below:
But my itunes doesnt have it at all!!

  • How long does it take to connect to Wi-Fi the first time I use my Ipad? It's been over 30 minutes. I see that it wants to connect but it keeps on turning.

How long does it take to connect to Wi-Fi the first time I use my Ipad? It's been over 30 minutes. I see that it wants to connect but it keeps on turning.

It should not take very long. Up to thirty seconds tops depending on your Wi-Fi network.
Try rebooting your Wi-Fi router. Turn off the router for 30 seconds then turn it back on. After the router completes its startup routine and indicates a good connection to the internet start you iPad again and see if it will connect.
If you still have problems you might try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network. Maybe one at your local coffee shop or library.

    Hi cheperrumps,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Uninstalling or reinstalling the iTunes application won't affect your music (data) -- but it's always a good idea to have a backup!
The information below will show you how to do that and to troubleshoot your issue with iTunes:
