I want firefox to open windows live mail composer when I hit the maito: on a webpage. How do I get that to happen?
I have firefox 4 and windows live mail. I would like firefox to open a composition window so I can write an email when I hit the mailto: links on a webpage.
Problem solved, I went into Mail> Prefrences> and changed my default mail reader! Thanks!

Clicking on an e-mail address will NOT open Windows Live Mail. Windows Live mail is already set as my default e-mail program.
Sorry you're having this problem. I think it was previously reported only by Windows XP users.
When you reinstall, were you making Firefox your default browser? Some users have reported that not making Firefox the default browser was an effective workaround.
However, you may have success with this approach, suggested by a user in another thread, which appears to more thoroughly update the Windows registry:
# Open Adobe Reader / Acrobat
# Edit->Preferences
# In the Categories column click 'General'
# Near the bottom of the page click the button marked 'Select Default PDF Handler'
# In the dialog, select 'Adobe Reader XI' (or Adobe Acrobat, as the case may be) and click 'Apply'
# A Windows Configuration screen will appear. Allow it to do its stuff (takes a few minutes), then restart your computer when prompted.
Does that resolve the issue for you? -
When i open my hotmail or windows live mail.I only get half of my messages. The other side of the screen is blank. The right side is blank for some reason.
You can try basic steps like these in case of issues with web pages:
Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
*Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
*Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and the cookies from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Mail sends when I hit the return key
For some reason as I'm typing an email, when I hit the return key, not everytime, Mail will send my email out. An unfinished, sometimes embarrasing email. I don't know how this started, but it is quite frustrating. Is there any fix to this?
I'm using OS 10.9.1
Thanks! This has happened to me ever since upgraded from 10.6. When I was in the Apple store in November 2013 they said it was a known bug, obvioulsy they have not fixed it. I'm running 10.8.5

Why will Firefox not open Windows Live when Internet Explorer will?
As above
Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you. -
I updated to the newest version of Firefox and restarted the internet. When it reopened the browser, it had the 'about session restore' tab open, but when I clicked on it, it crashed. I've restarted the computer three times to no avail.
The browser opens, then says 'Not Responding' before you can click on anything, then crashes.
The Mozilla Crash Reporter appears, and I click to restart (or quit - same results) then it suggests to open in safe mode, which I do, but the same thing happens repeatedly and I get nowhere.
It wasn't even generating a crash report but finally one went through to my email: bp-0a80049a-6643-452d-b3b2-d8c622130823.
I want to restore my previous version, as I had tabs open that I need to go back to.
Could you please advise me how to proceed?
Thank you.I don't have a good sense of what is going wrong.
Was Firefox stable in step 3 -- open with no sessionstore.js file and then exit?
If that was stable, it might be easiest to cull the open URLs from your sessionstore.js file and re-open the most important ones manually. You will lose the detail of your session on those pages (e.g., data you had entered into a form), but if that's okay, it might be the next step.
I found a script on mozillaZine that will extract URLs from the sessionstore.js file; I just changed the formatting of the output. To run the script:
(1) Return to your profile folder and rename sessionstore.js to sessionstore.old again, then copy it to a convenient location
(2) Start Firefox (it should be in a new session)
(3) Open the following link, select all (Ctrl+a), copy (Ctrl+c) to copy the script to the clipboard: http://dev.jeffersonscher.com/sessionstore_reader.txt
(4) Open the <s>Error Console</s> <u>Browser Console</u> (Ctrl+Shift+j), click next to <s>Code</s> <u>the caret (>>)</u> and paste, then press Enter <s>or click Evaluate</s>
(5) A file selection window should appear. Navigate to the convenient location and open sessionstore.old from there.
(6) As long as the file is not corrupted, a new tab should open with a list of all the URLs the script found in the file. You can save this page for future reference if desired. Also, you can close the <s>Error</s> <u>Browser</u> Console now. -
I delete e-mail regulary, put iit n the trash and empty the trash bin. Today all of the last two months incoming mail reappered in the inbox. Why, and how do I avoid this?
This is standard guidance, but maybe it will help...
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove your Yahoo cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
* right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
* Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
This will open a dialog where you can remove the individual cookies.
Then try reloading the page and logging in again. Does it work any better? -
The Firefox program crashes whenever a tab is closed in any window. I tried to solve this problem by disabling my Norton add-on tool bar but the process requires me to restart Firefox. I have tried multiple times but the program crashes instead of restarting so the tool-bar cant be disabled. How can i fix the issue?
You can use one of these to start Firefox in <u>Safe mode</u>:
*On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
*On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
*Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

I click on the download button on the Firefox website and it processes as if it is downloading. Once it is finished processing, I'm unable to find the file to install it with the install wizard. I tried it by both running and saving the file. In both cases, the file just vanishes.

Under the old version of Mail, when an e-mail was read, the name of the sender was greted out so that I knew I had read that email. This does not seem to happen under the new Mail thaqt came with Lion. Help!?

Thanks again for your suggestions. No, I don't get an
error message. In fact nothing happens. My name and
key are typed in and from what I understand, once you
do that with a real key it directs you to the
registration page. When I get done entering the
information the window just sits there without any
button or option to continue.
QT Pro is already in the QT (non-pro) you installed and the key (which is a hash of your name in part) allows the Pro features to work.
No redirect, internet, nothing like that. As such many people have activated and think they haven't. Just look at the menu items and see if the "Pro" logo is shown next to a few (which are greyed out and not available without Pro). If not you are done. -

I somehow lost the ability to mass delete mail using the "edit" and check off function. The "delete" option no longer pops up at the bottom of the screen. Has Apple done away with this option in the latest software update or what?

Firefox and Windows live mail won't play well together
If I open windows live mail from the task bar in windows 7 (64) I have to click on Firefox 5-10 times until it opens. If I open Firefox first, no problems. If I open live mail first, (which automatically opens messenger) I have to close both to open Firefox. Firefox is my default browser. I installed updates. Everything's current .
Hi MadGirlDisease,

Should I use Windows Live Mail or Outlook Express ...
I have always used Windows Live Mail, as it is a very simple and pleasant program to use - great graphics, interface and reminders.
I found Outlook way too fiddly and technical, with a very boring interface and comparatively poor reminders that email has arrived.
However, since getting my E71 setup with Nokia Messaging, I have overcome this for the sake of being able to sync my contacts and messages - Outlook 2007 is now set as my default browser.
This was ok, but now when I use Windows Live Messenger I get email reminders up - and clicking on those takes me into Windows Live Mail.
I just want one, streamlined email/messenger service - one of these email managers must be deleted!
- Can I sync my E71 into Windows Live Mail instead of Outlook?
OR
- Can I replace Windows Live Mail with Outlook 2007, as the email manager used by Windows Live Messenger to open emails?
I want everything done with one email browser!
Message Edited by alexjholland on 23-Aug-2009 02:31 AMYou can use iCloud Mail with Windows Live Mail, but not Calendars or Contacts.
If you want to use iCloud on Windows download EMClient, you can access the core services (Mail, Calendars and Contacts) using it. Installation and configuration will be manual.
