I want form to open with fields automatically highlighted.

I am creating a form that, when opened, I want the fill-in fields to automatically be highlighted. When I open the form in Acrobat, there is checkbox at the upper right side to check - it says "Highlight Fields" - by default, it is not checked. Is there a way to have it checked when the user opens the form?

I did try that yesterday (I changed the drop down menu from
FormCalc to JavaScript). It didn't work - right away - and I didn't save my work, but about 5 or 10 minutes later the form did start opening with the fields highlighted...without the code...
What's strange is that every form I opened after that (forms I didn't create) was defaulted as highlighted.
I emailed the form to a coworker and it was highlighted as a default even though I did not include any code to do that...
Now this morning, I opened the form again, the code is not there - as I was playing around looking at different options - going back and forth from the work area to the pdf preview - all of a sudden the highlighting was off. The ONLY thing I did was turn on the line numbering for the XML source view. I checked other pdf forms including ones I did not create and now the fields are NOT highlighted.
Has anyone ever heard of any of this happening? Any idea of what's going on?

I think you solved my problem! Upon following your advice, I first got a message that I had not allowed a connection to the Tax dept computers, which would prevent the file I need to fill out from being e-filed. I proceeded to then open the file at the top of which was a security banner at which I chose the site as safe. I then filled in the first line of the form which autofilled other lines telling me I was connected with the tax site. In a few days when I have the data I need, I will actually attempt to file the return. If there is a problem, I will send another message. Thanks so much for your assistance!

Form is filled on iPad then emailed. If form is opened with Adobe Reader all text is visible, but if opened with Acrobat XI no text is visible.

That suggestion makes sense and likely works, but only if the user is on a machine that will allow them to use Reader. I'm sending this out to a lot of teachers, who are using machines either at school, or are school-issued machines, and they don't have the admin privileges to install software-- even Reader.
so my problem is, if they are stuck on a machine without Reader, and without the possibility of having Reader... it's just not going to work because Preview can't handle these functions.
And, since that is not an acceptable answer with what I'm trying to do... I will find another way to create/submit forms. I think there are some online possibilities I will have to make work.

I want to prevent open websites from automatically refreshing.

I work with many tabs open at the same time during my work day. I wonder if the fact that they automatically refresh frequently is a factor in slowing Firefox. How can I disable the automatic refresh? I do not with to close and reopen as they all require logins and it takes too much time.

I'm not aware of a way to prevent automatic refresh if the page uses JavaScript to achieve this.
It is also possible to do this via a meta refresh tag.

Wanting to Create DSO with fields in Datasource

If I want to use most of the fields in a DataSource to create a DSO, what are the steps needed. Instead of inputing each object in DSO manually, I want to drag fields in DSO OR create DSO using copy function.
Is there a way to create Infoset from a DataSource? Or any other easier way?

I don't think we have any such option for dragging & dropping the IO's to DSO.
If it is a standard Datsource & if any standard DSO is available for the same, then you can create a copy of the standard DSO to create a customized DSO. And then you can make changes to the customized DSO.

No you can create Infoset only on Master data IO, DSO or a Cube.

I want Safari to open with all windows from last session.

Uncheck the box next to "Close windows when quitting an application".

uninstalled firefox ....deleted all files still remaining under mozilla firefox directory in program files ... to avoid having to reprogram all my settings, reisntall all addons as well .. I did not remove anything from mozilla firefox that is stored in either appdata or under the windows users directory (if any)

If Excel works as do other apps, you should be able to tap and hold on the attachment and then select "Open in Excel" in the window that will open. Note that you need to be subscribed to and signed into Office 365 to be able to edit documents in Microsoft's apps.

I have a problem with my form, when opened with Adobe Reader Version 9.3.0.148 (included) or higher Reader systematically shows the annoying message "This PDF form requires a newer version of Adobe Reader ...".
I work with 3 versions of each form:
1) Dynamic PDF Form XDP: Generated with Adobe Designer ES 8.2, (target version "Acrobat and Adobe Reader 8.0 or later. "
XDP form has no "Warings"
XFA-Template:
2) PDF Form, generated from the XDP form of point 1), using Adobe LC Forms ES2 "renderXDPForm" method.
3) Flatten PDF, generated from the PDF form, resulting in point 2) value, using Adobe LC Assembler ES2.
DDX:
I have generated 3 different PDF rendering, changing only the "target version":
a.1 PDFFormRenderSpec.setAcrobatVersion (AcrobatVersion.Acrobat_6): MyForm-ES-AcroVersion6.pdf.
b.1 PDFFormRenderSpec.setAcrobatVersion (AcrobatVersion.Acrobat_7_0_5): MyForm-ES-AcroVersion7.pdf
c.1 PDFFormRenderSpec.setAcrobatVersion (AcrobatVersion.Acrobat_8): MyForm-ES-AcroVersion8.pdf
Of all that I've created a flat version using Assembler:

Well ... I tried to open all forms generated (six) with versions of Adobe Reader from 8.1.0 to 10.0.1.434 X and the findings are that the annoying warning message is displayed only with the flattened forms and from version 9.3 .0.148 (included) or higher.

OK= No message at open.
Err= Message displayed.
I do not understand or just logical that the most current versions (and higher) Reader is precisely this message to appear at what may be due? What's happening?
Why the message is taught only in the flattened forms?

I do not use the method "renderPDFForm" (at least not explicitly), instead use the "renderXDPForm (...)".

Webform that opens with auto number

I need a web form that opens with a 5 digit number auto assigned. Each new form will increase by one digit. When submitted it sends to mysql db. All connections between form and mysql have been made and are working. Just have not figured out how to open form with auto number. Any help would be appreciated.

The problem with your plan is that everytime a user, spambot or any other person or bot opens your form, a number gets generated. This might be an argument for generating the number outside the database, using even a simple text file to store the numbers as they accumulate.The alternative would be to use an auto_increment primary key in the database to generate the number. The problem with that approach is that your database will fill up with empty records that contain just the primary key.
I think that the best solution is to simply not do what you are trying to do. I think it's a bad plan.
If you were to use the database method, as soon as the page opens, run an insert query on the database to simply generate the number, then call the number from the database using either:
id = mysql_insert_id(); ----with the original, bad mysql connection
$dbh->lastInsertId() ----with a PDO connection
Then, after the form is filled out, use an update query with a where clause as so:
update mytable set name = '$name' (etc., etc.) WHERE id = '$id'
As already pointed out, using this method, your table will populate with many rows that contain just the key number because many users and spambots that open the form will not complete it, or your validation will reject them, but you could run a trigger on your database to purge these empty records automatically, or, if you don't know how to create a trgger, you can run a query that simply says:
DELETE from mytable WHERE somefield IS NULL AND timestamp > currenttime + 5 hours
(the above the the query logic, not the actual finished query. You wouldn't want to delete all empty records because you may delete some where the user is still filling out the form, that's why you would give it a few hours between creation time and delete time.)
So if you used the text file method, you would use the PHP fopen function to open the file, check for the last created number, add the next number to the list, and echo that number on your form. You would run this script at the top of your page.
But I would really think hard about whether you really need to generate the number before the filled out form is submitted. Maybe you do, but avoid it if you can.
