I WANT GOOGLE AS MY SEARCH ENGINE. NO TO BING. CORRECT IT OR LET ME GO BACK TO A VERSION WHERE I MAY USE GOOGLE SEARCH.

You "NEW" VERSION 5. what ever, has a BING browser and will not allow a goggle browser. This is not acceptable. Correct it.

Open your Add-ons Manager and the computers Programs Folder.
Remove Yahoo anything.
Bookmark and use this;
'''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Mozilla Search Reset]''' {web link}
This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and
then resets your search preferences and home page to their
default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the
search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.
'''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/settings-guard Settings Guard for Firefox]''' {web link}
Detects and resets changes to settings that are frequently done
by add-ons and application installers.

  • I don't know about anybody else, but the 5.0 version is very user unfriendly. All my bookmarks got wiped out. I want to go back to earlier version where I could have an icon that actually took me to my bookmarks and not the thing they came up with.

Pretty clear what happened: the so called upgrade wiped the bookmarks out and got rid of the VERY useful bookmarks bar. The window that now comes up is worthless and cumbersome. I need my bookmarks back. I looked in the profile for a possible second ff but there was only this one and I don't like it. I want the bookmarks bar back and my bookmarks back. What to do????

Firefox doesn't "lose" bookmarks during an update, and even if it did you should see the default bookmarks that come with Firefox. Plus, Firefox 4+ versions have ten bookmark backups stored in your Profile folder; Firefox 3.6 and earlier stored five backup files.
'''Were your bookmarks even being saved in Firefox, or maybe something like the Google Toolbar or a Yahoo Toolbar extension??''' <br />
Those two extensions haven't been updated for Firefox 5.0 ''(to the best of my knowledge, unless they were updated in the last couple of days)'', so those extensions would have been disabled during the update due to the lack of "compatibility".
To see if that is the case, open the Add-ons Manager tab - {Ctrl + Shft + A} - then open Extensions and see which extensions may have been disabled, they would appear at the bottom of that list and would be greyed-out.
Please check to see what extensions might be disabled.

  • I want to change my search engine to Google- your instructions don't work! How do I know if I have a "localized" version of Firefox?!

Just downloaded Windows 8.1 and it asked ME if I wanted to change my search engine on Mozilla - showed my the instructions, but it would not work, and then in small printing it says "this may not work because your have localized version" or some nonsense like that. I want to change my search engine on Mozilla Firefox to Google.

  • I want google as my search engine, not Bing. How do I make Google the default search engine in the "Search the Web" feature of the search bar; or, how do I remove the "Search the Web" feature of the search bar so that "Google" can be default?

I want google as my search engine, not Bing. But no matter what I do in "Manage Search Engines," Firefox seems to reset to "Search the Web," which uses Bing.
How do I make Google the default search engine in the "Search the Web" feature of the search bar; or, how do I remove the "Search the Web" feature of the search bar so that "Google" can be default? When I move "Search the Web" down and "Google" up, the search bar resets every time Firefox reloads.

Sometime Bing is not located in the Add/Remove programs section of the control panel.
6 Easy Steps to Remove Bing from Mozilla Firefox:
    1. Click on the "inverted triangle" located to the right of the orange Bing icon.
    2. Select the option "Manage Search Engines...". (A pop-up window will appear titled "Manage Search Engine List.)
    3. Select "Bing".
    4. Click the "Remove" button.
    5. Select the desired search engine from the list.
    6. Click "OK"
    All Done.... :-)

  • Google used to be the search site, now I get MSN, and I want Google. Can I get it back as the default?

When I would click on Firefox, I would reach Google to do a web search. Now I get a very crowded page with MSN, I think it is . I want Google as the default , how can I do that? and why does Firefox change things with no notice to users?

Not sure I fully understand your question.
Are you referring to the Home Page when you first power up Firefox? If so, refer to this help article on [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20set%20the%20home%20page?s=home+page&r=0&as=s How to Set the Home Page].

  • I WANT TO REMOVE BABYLON SEARCH WHICH APPEARS WHENEVER I START FIREFOX

In addition to above I wish to inform you that Babylon addon is not available in my computer so that I may remove the same. I suspect some scam as I want Google as my default web browser & I want that whenever I start Firefox I should see startup page of Firefox and not Babylon search page, Babylon was erroneously downloaded by me which I removed but I am not able to remove Babylon search.
''(changed text to lowercase for readability - c)''

I did this but the problem still persists. The Babylon icon is still on the page and it is still using Babylon as a search engine. I went back into the about:config and when I type in keyword the adjustment suggested is fine but there is another Babylon lineafter it. It is as follows:
    extensions.BabylonToolbar.keyWordUrl i user set string http://search.babylon.com/?babsrc=SP_ss&q={searchTerms}&mntrId=a4c2fb5f00000000000000ff9c40d7f0&tlver=1.4.35.10&affID=100489

  • I want Google as my primary browser when I open the firefox start page

When I open the firefox start page and type a question, the answer is provided by Ask.com. I don't want ask.com to be my primary browser on this home page. I want Google. How do I make Google my primary browser on the firefox start page?

I did manage to paste that code in the location bar and for that brief episode I had a google search engine for the fire start page. However, when I closed id down and re-booted the page, it reverted to ask.com as the primary search engine so that really did not solve my problem. By the way, the start page that I have does not show google to the left of the large central bar of the start page. I wonder if I should uninstall google 7 and reinstall it? I probably would lose my favorites and I don't want to lose them by doing this. Somewhere in this computer ask.com is flourishing just like a virus. I removed it's toolbar permanently both in extensions and in the programs section to no avail.

  • When I click on Firefox on my desktop I get BING, I don't want Bing, I want Google for my homepage. Thank you, bc

When I click Firefox on my desktop I go to Bing, I want Google as my homepage.

Single-word input in the URL/location bar are taking users to Bing instead of their selected search engine thanks to a Microsoft update on 06/08/2010.

    Every time Firefox opened

According to your User Agent at the bottom of your question, you have the Ask Toolbar installed:
    ''Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.6) Gecko/20100625 ~~red:AskTbBCPA~~/3.8.0.12304 Firefox/3.6.6''
Some freeware sites partially finance the cost of their site by including "optional" additional items. Always be careful when downloading and installing such items. In some cases, you have an <u>opportunity</u> during the installation process to '''''UN-check''''' the optional item(s)--<u>'''LOOK for such items'''</u>.
If you have the Ask Toolbar
    (looks like this: http://sp.ask.com/toolbar/install/web/ask/download.php ),
here is how to uninstall it: http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4

  • I Don't Want Google & Do Want To Contact Customer Support, Not A Forum

I've seen other threads regarding this & noticed that nothing has been done. I just want to put it as plainly as possible: I don't want Google & Google Toolbar forced onto my computer without the option (like Java gives for Ask toolbar) of choosing to not have it. It seems incredibly unprofessional to try to put programs on your customers' property without their permission. At the very least, give us a checkbox to uncheck if we don't want it. Oh, and provide an e-mail to contact Customer Support. These stupid forums are useless because no one from the company involved ever responds or make changes according to the requests posted.
If so many programs didn't use Flash, I'd uninstall it right now & have nothing to do with it any longer.

Uncheck the checkbox on the download page
If you don't see such a checkbox, please post a screenshot of that page.
