I want Mac Mini Workstation

*Mac Mini Workstation*
- Intel Core i5
- 4GB DDR3
- ATi Radeon HD 4670
- 320 GB + 320 GB 7200 RPM HDD With RAID-0
- No Optical drive (Like Mac Mini Server)
- Mac OS X Snow Leopard + iLife 09
Or How I order Mac Mini Server with Mac OS X Snow Leopard + iLife 09, RAID 0 installed?
Please help me and Thank you.

You cannot order the Mac mini without the optical drive unless you order the Server version.
And you can't order the Server version with iLife included, and Apple will not pre-set it with a RAID configuration. If you want things that way, you'll have to order iLife separately and install it yourself, and will have to set up the RAID configuration yourself as well.
Finally, Apple does not offer any Mac mini configuration with the Core i5 processor; not yet, anyway. The only option is the Core 2 Duo. And the only option for graphics processor is the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M. When, or indeed if, Apple will ever offer a Mac mini model with either of the options you're looking for no one here knows or can say.
Regards.

  • Want Mac mini and G4 to share Display and USB keyboard and mouse

I bought a KVM switch at a local electronics store. I got the only one that claimed Mac compatibility (PPA Int'l). I can't plug the switch into the G4 Cube. No such ports. With the adapter that accompanied my brand new Mac Mini, I can plug the KVM monitor port into the mini's monitor port, BUT that port is currently being used by the Apple DVI-to-ADC adapter I bought so I can connect my Cinema Display to the Mac mini.
The KVM switch wants 3 ports on each computer: a VGA (monitor) port, the keyboard port, and the mouse port; but the keyboard/mouse connectors are not USB.
As things stand--without the switch--I can shut down whatever computer I'm working on (mini or Cube), unplug the display from one, connect it to the other, power up and everything's fine. I suppose the only advantage with the KVM switch is being able to power off, switch, then power on without having to move the display plug.
My QUESTION is, does anybody manufacture a KVM switch I can use between two Macintosh computers to share use of my USB keyboard powered from a USB port on the display, and my USB mouse powered from a USB port on the keyboard?
Or is the answer NOT to go for the convenience of a KVM switch?
Does it matter that the mini OS is Leopard, and the Cube OS is Tiger?
I am heartily impressed with the mini. Setup was over in 5 minutes, and I must say it's fast. Appreciate any help from the experts. --Spot

I had the same problem, and finally came up with two other alternative solutions.
First, if you have a recent LCD monitor, it is fairly simple and cheap. The Mini has a digital connection for the monitor. My G4 400 MHz has both digital and analog connections. I have a Samsung 19 inch widescreen monitor that has both a digital and an analog input. I connected the G4 to the monitor using the analog input with my old cable, and connected the Mini using the digital input. The Samsung has a switch that will use either the digital or analog input - very easy.
Now the keyboard and mouse. I got a 6 foot USB cable with the A plug on one end and B plug on the other, plugged the A plug end into the G4, and ran the cable with the B plug up near the Mini. It helps to keep it close. You already have the keyboard/mouse plugged into the Mini. You simply unplug the keyboard cable from the Mini, and plug it into the B plug from the G4. Switch the monitor from digital to analog, and you have the G4 (remember to start it up). Once you have run the cables, it takes about 10 seconds to make the switch.
Second, and I use both ways, is to get an inexpensive wired router. I bought a Belkin 4 port router (about $30, I think), got a couple Cat 5 cables, hooked both the Mini and G4 up to the router, along with my internet connection, and have both computers available on one monitor with no physical switching involved. You will need to go to System Preferences/Sharing and turn on Personal File Sharing (there may be another change, but I can't remember it right now).
When all is hooked up, you go to GO in the Finder Menu Bar (make sure the G4 is booted before doing this) click on either NETWORK or CONNECT TO SERVER, find your G4 and connect. It may be confusing the first few times, but it works great because you have access to both computers at once, along with your internet connection - the best of both worlds!
I did this in January of this year, so please forgive me if I have forgotten a step somewhere. Ask me and I'll be glad to try to walk you through it. The first solution is the simplest to do, and the second in the most versatile. It's your choice.
Hope this helps. Just don't be intimidated by it - if I can figure it out, we can get you connected. Good luck!

  • Work with after effects, mac mini i5 or i7 ?

Hi! I'm working with after effects and Cinema 4D, mac mini i5 is better than i7? I don't know if the video card has influence (HD Graphics 3000 de Intel vs adeon HD 6750M de AMD con 512 MB), but the CPU maybe is more important.
    Thanks!
    rompelomo

As otehrs have said the i5 is probably all the speed you will need, but in the future the i7 may well deliver a bit if an edge. I see no reason not to go directly to 16GB, you could probably get by with 8GB but "get by" is the operative phrase. SSDs have been mentioned, but You should consider the 1.1TB Fusion drive. As a practical matter the overall performance will be VERY close to that of all SSD, but a lot more capacity at a much lower price than SSD.
Since you are a web developer, I will share my "site development" secret with you. I had a rather ancient Mac mini I was not using. It was old and slow, but could run Mavericks and Server. I have it setup in a closet, running headless (no monitor or keyboard) and controlled from my Mac mini workstation. It is a great place to test new sites without having to go live. I do occasionally catch a problem running on my remote site server that I missed testing on my development Mac mini. Since I already had the old Mac mini my total outlay for my test site turned out to be $30 for the Server app.

  • Mac Mini + PC Workstation + Plasma TV

In my living room, I have a 1.83GHz Intel Mac Mini hooked up to my plasma TV and I'm using it as a media server. I use an Apple wireless keyboard and a wireless Mighty Mouse to control the Mini.
In a room across my house (everything is networked with wi-fi) I have a quad core PC Workstation with 8GB of RAM and a 1GB video card running Windows XP. I use the PC to work in Autodesk 3ds max, which is a Windows-only application.
I'd like a to have some sexy way to work on my PC workstation from my couch. I'd like to somehow access it through the Mini so I can do my 3ds max work on my plasma TV.
I considered using Synergy (http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/) but that is only a keyboard and mouse sharing solution. I also want to share the display (my plasma TV). Also, I don't want to physically move the PC into the living room if I can avoid it. I considered physically hooking both machines up to the TV using DVI>HDMI and just between switching TV inputs depending on what computer I want to use, but I don't like that...it's too limiting. Maybe I want to listen to iTunes on the Mini while I'm working on the PC.
So now I'm thinking that Remote Desktop or VNC might be the best way to go. Something that is absolutely critical is that I make HEAVY use keyboard shortcuts in 3ds max on my Windows XP machine. So I'm concerned that no matter what solution I end up using, I may have problems using the Apple wireless keyboard and wireless mighty mouse to do professional, hot key-intensive work in the Windows XP environment.
Given the situation, what would you recommend?

  • I have a Mac mini OSX 10.4.11 Intel Core Duo, 512mb, 1.83 GHz with iTunes 9.0.3. What steps do I need to take to get my music library to my iPad. I dont think I meet the requirements to just upgrad to snow leopard and/or lion. I want the music I paid for

I have a Mac mini OS X 10.4.11, intel core duo processor (not core 2 duo), with 512 mb and 1.83 GHz processor.  I only have version 9.0.3 of iTunes because it hasn't let me go higher, which I believe is because of the operating system.  I want to get my purchased music from the Mac mini to a different computer (that has the latest version of iTunes) and also my iPad.  The Mac mini does not meet the requirements listed to simply upgrade to snow leopard or lion. As far as I can tell.  Forgive me if I am lacking here...this is new to me.  What can I do to get the music transferred.  I have invested alot of money over the past few years on all this music that I should be able to transfer.  Thank you in advance if you can help me.

If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.

i have a mac mini mid 2011, this device have; 2,3GHz and 2 Gb Memmory.I want to upgrade the memory and i need the list of supported memory modules. i am from turkey.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The Mid 2011 Mac mini supports 8 GB of memory officially, but you can install up to 16 GB of RAM, so you can use 2, 4 and 8 GB modules. You can buy more RAM from OWC or Crucial.
If you are looking for memory at a local shop, make sure you buy 1333 MHz DDR3 memory. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4432?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Podcasts from Current Tv, since three weeks prior to the Nov 2012 election have had a url problem and cannot be played on my mac mini 2011 with 10.8.2 and the latest Itunes? anyone know why> ? I am in contact with Itunes now and they wanted screenshots of the problem, I can get these current tv episodes with a vpn and my isp says they are not blocking them, but i was surprised that prior to the election they were blocked, ?
I also can get them on my Android Samsung Galaxy note 2 with no problem but on the Macmini cannot>/? I Unsubscribed and subscribed many times but still no luck, any ideas? I am waiting for the senior advisor to get back to me on this issue. I am in THailand now where the problem is happening and as I said the ISP says they do not block any podcasts.I also do not want it on my iphone 5, so I have to wait and see why the mac mini is not getting it.

I seem to have fixed it by putting <div  class="clearfloat"></div> after the navigation bar?

  • I want to Connect my Mac Mini as a Slave to a Mac pro Server while at the same time using the Mac mini's thunderbolt ports peripherals ( ie monitor, Sound Card, Hard drives) Creating a poor man's new mac Pro. Can this be Done?

I want to Connect my Mac Mini as a Slave to a Mac pro Server while at the same time using the Mac mini's thunderbolt ports peripherals ( ie monitor, Sound Card, Hard drives) Creating a poor man's new mac Pro. Can this be Done?

Well, I really would love the new unreleased mac pro however , I'm not sure of the expected cost , Everyone speculates from $3,000 to $8,000, in which I may have to wait a while to purchase.
To the point .... I want fully functional thunderbolt ports to be on the current mac pro's .... wonder if anyone had workarounds yet?...  or could I chain the the current mac pro to a mac mini to make that happen?

  • Want to run a Mac Mini into a 50" Samsung Plasma screen TV...will it work?

The TV is a Samsung PN50B850 Plasma screen with a VGA input: http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/samsung-pn50b850/4505-6482_7-33490381.htm l

From what I can tell it should just plug right into the VGA input on the TV...but my question is am I going to have any issues with resolution or anything like that?
Also, from the pictures it looks like the DVI to VGA adapter that apple offers is only like 3 inches long? Do they make them longer than this? I had planned on mounting the TV on the wall above my fireplace on an arm that tilts and swings out about 2-3 ft and just sitting the Mac Mini on the mantle...anyways I didn't want to go away on vacation, have my mom come over, adjust the TV, and send my Mac Mini to its untimely death:(

Could you please tell me the exact settings you have on your TV and your mac.
Under what menu are you selecting PC DVI?
What resolution and other settings do you have your mac set to?
Currently I have mine setup like so:
Mac Mini with mini dvi to dvi adaptor then a cable dvd to hdmi.
I then have that hdmi plug into port 2 of my tv that says (HDMI/DVI on it.
On the mac I have resolution set to 1920 x 1080 and i have overscan ticked.
The picture is OK but up close i would not say it is perfectly crisp (especially text) but from a about 6 feet away it seems fine.
Is the text on your screen pin sharp?
    Thanks in advance

  • Got Lion with new Mac mini and want to install on imac

    Hi,
I just bought a new mac mini with lion. and now i want to install Lion on my imac.
Is there a way to register my purchase of lion on appstore so i can download it from there?
    //Stefan

You'll have to pay for the App Store version of Lion needed for the iMac.  The license for Lion  that you get  with a new computer is different from the App Store license, and doesn't provide for multiple installations.
From the Lion Software License Agreement, which you can download from here:
    http://www.apple.com/legal/sla
    2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions.
    A. Standard and Preinstalled Apple Software License. Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, unless you obtained the Apple Software from the Mac App Store or under a volume license, maintenance or other written agreement from Apple, you are granted a limited, non-exclusive license to install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-branded computer at any one time. For example, these standard single-copy license terms apply to you if you obtained the Apple Software preinstalled on Apple- branded hardware.
    B. License from Mac App Store. If you obtained a license for the Apple Software from the Mac App Store, then subject to the terms and conditions of this License and as permitted by the Mac App Store Usage Rules set forth in the App Store Terms and Conditions (http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/ww/) (“Usage Rules”), you are granted a limited, non-transferable, non-exclusive license:
    to download, install, use and run for personal, non-commercial use, one (1) copy of the Apple Software directly on each Apple-branded computer running Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server (“Mac Computer”) that you own or control;

  • I have a new Mac Mini, and I want to send raw video...

I have a new Mac Mini (Lion), and I want to send raw video to the Internet, using Ustream, Skype or other services. I don't need cameras, microphones, or other periphrals. My video consists of 1 volt composite (from a video switcher), and the audio is full stereo at 600 ohm line level on each channel. What do I need?
I have a video capture card on my Windows machine; but the results have been crappy at best. And the so-called "Geek Squad" at Best Buy (where I bought the Mac Mini) have been less than helpfull. Further, the on-line Apple Store shows nothing. Maybe someone here has an idea.

You are going to need a video capture device of some sort and I believe the following will be suitable.

It is available in the US as well http://www.elgato.com/elgato/na/mainmenu/products/Video-Capture/product1.en.html

Could be a bad cable or bad Thunderbolt port.
You have 90 days of free telephone support on a new device. You can call them at 1-800-MY-APPLE. Have your Mini's serial number handy
You can also make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Congratulations on the new Mini. Are you saying you tried burning and it does not play, or do you want to burn it only for the computer to be able to play it?

  • I want to do output and input Surround Sound from my 2007 Mac Mini

I thought I could output my Mac Mini audio with a Toslink OUT connection, but it turns out my Mini only has a Toslink IN connection- God knows why. I wanted to use the Toslink out to connect to a receiver, which I'd hoped would process my stereo mp3's into Surround using Pro Logic IIx or other codec. But it seems I have to use a regular Y-cable from my Mini's audio out to my receiver's analog RCA in, and hope it does the decoding. Could I then plug it back into the audio in and have the mp3s in surround that I could record? Also, instead of a simple Y-cable, I could use my USB iMic line-out/in (and mic IN by flipping a switch) to go out of the computer into the receiver, which should provide higher quality sound, and eventually plan on using an Apogee Duet audio interface/controller to output the sound to the receiver with even higher quality- BUT STILL, can I then plug the receiver into the Mini's toslink audio in and then have surround versions of my mp3s and other audio being entered back into the Mini. I used to have a M-Audio Sonica theater which I lost which had surround formats including DTS up to 7.1 Surround (but not PL IIx I don't think) and still have the software disc that came with it, but think it is useless without the Sonica Theater hardware and speakers with a hardware amp/decoder such as 5.1 hardware/speaker systems previously sold by Klipsch and Alesis. And I assume my receiver can do a better job implementing surround on stereo sources anyway, I just need to be sure it can be fed back into the Mini audio input for recording. Finally, if and when I get the Apogee Duet (2-in, 2-out line and mic interface/DAW controllerpreset to control GarageBand/Logic, but capable of controlling most all other music software with included software called Maestro), I only have one Firewire input, but also want a Firewire HD- is it true I can daisy-link devices together to control many Firewire devices from one input?) Thank you so much for any info that could assist me.

If your mini is an Intel Core Duo 1.83 ghz model, it has optical audio out via a Toslink connector plugged into the audio output jack. You have to enable the optical output, and have a Toslink (optical audio) cable plugged in. Plug it all in then try setting your output with Audio MIDI Setup (in the Applications > Utilities folder).

  • I used to sync my ipad on an asus laptop, now I have a Mac mini and want to sync with it. Can I? Can things be transferred from laptop to Mac mini?

I synced my ipad2 with an asus laptop. Now I have a Mac mini that I want to use for syncing and backup. But when I connected my ipad to the Mac mini it said something about the ipad being already synced to another computer and backup is permitted only one computer at a time. How can I transfer my backup to the Mac mini ? And delete my previous (I.e. asus laptop) iTunes backup system?

You don't have to delete anything from the Asus. You can copy your iTunes library from the laptop to the Mac. Read this for more information.
