I want my home screen to be app-free. Possible?

I realize that in many ways I'm not exactly normal and maybe I should seek professional help. And that might be why I prefer to have my home screen devoid of apps. An empty home screen has worked great for me until IOS 5. Now, if I sync or power-cycle my iPhone, the blank home screen is gone and the next screen has become my new home screen. Is there a way to keep the home screen empty as shown below? Does anybody else care?

PapaPom, thank you for the affirmation. Like you, I want to think this isn't an unreasonable request. In the interim, I have reluctantly acquiesced to leaving a single icon on my home screen (as you suggest) until Apple is willing to accommodate those of us who prefer a totally blank home screen.
And Apple, if you’re actually listening, I might suggest that you really wouldn’t need to radically redesign the algorithm that removes all blank screens. For example, you could simply add a ‘Blank Home Screen Default’ toggle option to Wallpaper settings. It’s not that complicated and would demonstrate your sensitivity to those of us who don’t fit into a traditionally well-defined box. It’s just a thought anyway.

don't worry, it's normal and it will fade away by itself. If not, take it to your apple store

On my IPad 2 home screen, the mail app used to indicate the number of new messages with a number in a red circle, next to the app.  This has vanished, I think about the same time as when I upgraded to the new OS.  Does anyone know why and how to restore this feature?

  • How do I fix home screen not showing apps?

I recently got an iPhone 5c. I wanted to restore it with a backup. After that when I opened my phone all the apps disappeared and the home screen was blank. I scrolled through the pages but nothing was there! Help me!

    Umm,
They were things that I have used during the time I have had the issue myself.
It seems to have improved things on some services (namely AIM) but have left the issue the same with my Bonjour connection to my Snow Leopard Mac.
On mine the File Transfer window reports it Failed  (See Window Menu).
On other accounts sometimes the Chat shows an icon and it will open in Preview rather than displaying In-line.
It is not something that I do that often and is not something I have spent a great amount of time on.
    You could try this:-
In the Finder use the Go Menu > Go to Folder and type (or Copy from here) ~/Library/Preferences  into the dialogue box that appears.
Once in the Preferences folder find the com.apple.ichat.plist file
Depending on the service the picture is coming on you can delete (Drag to Trash) the Preferences (.plist file) for that service (com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist or com.apple.ichat.Jabber.plist for instance).
There is a Yahoo one and a Subnet one for the Bonjour Account.
    Restart the app each time.
If that does not work try deleting the com.apple.ichat.plist itself.
DO NOT delete them together as this will cause the app to have to be reset with the basic account info.
If it is the iMessages account that is effected try deleting com.apple.imessages.bag.plist as this one is the contact with the server as are the ones above.
    Again restart the app.

  • TS3274 My Ipad display screen is coming up with blue background and pink/purple lines all across the screen. It's also blurry and difficult to see icons on home screen and when apps are opened up. Has anyone had a similar problem?

The display screen on my Ipad is coming up all blurred with blue background mixed with pink and purple lines. It's difficult to see icons but apps are still accessible. Colors are off and images are very unclear on apps and home screen.
Has anyone had this problem or any advice on troubleshooting?
    Thanks.

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
But it could also be a hardware failure. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • Home screen and open apps

Some thoughts/suggestions after playing with Passport for two days:
    - Home Screen:  confusion of "home screeen":  in browser "Add to Home Screen".  it refers to the first left scroll of "Open Apps" screen. But the mini icon at the bottom of the screen the home sign refers to the left most screen - open apps.
    - Is there a way to customize which screen as "home" screen? Personally I don't like to go back to "open apps" when I swipe up my current app. I would rather stay to e.g the one next to it with desktop of icons. In most cases I don't bother to manage the open apps screen unless I do need to switch between them. Those big icons create distraction so I would rather hide them(and call them back when necessary).
    - switch/transition between different apps:  not quite natural/smoothly.  Need more fade in/out effect to make it feels perfect.

If you can't find the App Store app on any of your homescreens or app folders, and you can't find it via the spotlight search screen (swipe your first home screen to the right), then is it hidden by Settings > General > Restrictions > Installing Apps being set 'off' ?
If not then have you tried a reset to see if you can find it after the iPad has restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
The reset (and/or getting the App Store app back on screen) might also get the apps to start downloading again. If it doesn't then check if there are any outstanding downloads in the iTunes store app that need to complete first e.g. is there anything shown in the Downloads tab in it

  • App to make home screen bookmarks into apps?

As it seems there is no direct way to see if your home screen bookmark got saved in an iPad sync on the Mac, maybe an alternative approach can be done by some enterprising programmer? Why not convert the home screen bookmarks into short apps that are clearly backed up in your iTunes? I don't see the bookmarks actually saved like the Apps are in iTunes unless they are synced directly from Safari. I'm hoping to find some way to access the bookmarks I created on my home screen instead of the ones that are on Safari. Anybody know of such an app?

I also have an original iPad and have that behavior...usually when working on a site such as these communities in Safari.  When that happens I do a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignoring the red slider if it appears.  That seems to clear whatever has been overloading the memory and tripping it.

  • My iPad2 is showing duplicates of the icons for apps on my home screen (where the app store and other default apps reside)??? How do I get back to normal?

My iPad2 has suddenly begun displaying duplicates of the icons on my home screen all stacked atop one another in the upper left corner.  What can I do to return to normal operation?

    Try this.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Enterprise replacement of app launcher / home screen?

Is there a way for schools and businesses to replace the iPad "app launcher" or "home screen" with a more functional alternative that is better suited for a multi-user environment?
For example, I want the home screen to be modified, to have a way for users to log on and authenticate with our Windows domain, to show who is currently logged on and what the domain name is above the app icons, as well as having a "Logoff" button to disconnect the user.
What needs to be done to accomplish this? Is this only possible through an "enterprise iOS developer" agreement for in-house app distribution?

  • When turning Off Restrictions, iPad moves previously restricted apps to the home screen

    I this normal?
I've had the iPad Air for about 2 weeks now... and I'm sure I haev set and disables restrictions about a week ago with no problem....
    But now..
If I restrict apps for age 9+ for example... those apps will be hidden from their folders... which is good and works as it should be.
When I then disable the restrictions it takes the app shortcut out of the folder and leaves it on the home screen!
To test this again I again enabled restrictions on ALL apps and then disabled the restrictions.... and the result was that ALL of my downloaded apps got moved out of their folders and placed on the home screen.
The apps like calendar and face time that come with the iPad were left in their folders.
    What's going on????

Thanks for the help... It's too bad that it works that way.... I have folders for each person in the family and wanted to age-restrict apps when my kids were playing, then disable restrictions whenever I was going to use it.... I guess I'll just have to leave those age restricted apps on the home screen.
    I have submitted feedback.

  • My Mail app sends me to home screen when I open it

Let me tell you what I have done after reading all of the threads on this forum about this issue.
    • Closed the app mail and restarted it #RollEyes #duh
    • Turning phone off and turning it back on
    • Resetting Phone
    • Removing all of the mail accounts from my mail app (using the Settings app), then re adding
    • Removing all of the mail accounts from my mail app (using the settings app), then shutting down phone, then re adding
    • Removing all of the mail accounts from my mail app (using the settings app), then resetting phone, then re adding
    • Deleting all of my mail from the mail servers (using my computer) for the last two days, then "delete forever" all of that mail that I moved to the trash (my mail app stopped working today - so two days should cover it)
    • Putting the phone in airplane mode
    • Setting the phone to "data off"
I still get a mail app that "opens" then immediatly goes back to the home screen (the mail app is still "running" as I can see it when I double tap my home button to see the "running" apps)
I've been using apple products since I was 5 years old, family of electrical engineers, and I'm stumped. I love apple and the reason I've used their products is to avoid software malfunctions etc. . . I'm not gonna lie, it's gotten worse over the last few years with Apple's growing popularity. . .
Gonna need a solution as I use my mail for work on a daily basis
using iPhone 5S Champagne with latest software 7.0.4
    <Personal Information Edited by Host>

Restore as new, THEN restore from the backup. It seems as if the Mail App is corrupted. Last Sunday this happened to me on my iPad (Mail app quitting, just like in your case). I restored as new, then reinstalled the backup. Luckily I had a backup (from the day before) which was backed up BEFORE the mail problem appeared.
If the above does not solve your problem, I suggest restoring as new and redownloading each app individually, and then transferring your photos from iPhoto on the Mac (or whataever photo app on Windows) and content independently.
If that does not solve your prblem, there might be a hardware problem.

  • Notifications and control panel do not work on either the app screen or home screen

On my home screen and in apps, I can not swipe up or down to release the notifications or control panel. It has worked earlier today, however not any more.
I can, however, access them in the lock screen, andin settings, they are allows to open in apps. It should always allow me to access them in the home screen though, so I do not know what has happened.
What do I have to do to access the control panel in the home screen, and why is it like this?

Do you have a screen protector or case that would interfere with swiping?
If so remove them as a test.
    Otherwise:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
