I want my land line, home phone as my caller ID, h...

This is 2012.  I'm out of work and money.  I only have a home phone with local service only.  I have to use Skype for my 1 or 2 long distance calls per month.  I'd like my home phone to be my caller ID.  I can't receive txt messages that way, but I'd at least have a return number for those to see who it is.  Everyone on the internet from google, youtube and "you name it", wants a cell phone number and I can't even afford anything, whether it's a cell phone or an "unused" extra number for a fee.  I can't tell you how frustrating it is to have businesses hang up on me because they think they are being pranked because of what they see on their screens when I call.  In Los Angeles, two miles from my house can be a long distance call.  Please Help those of us that are sincerely poor!!!!  It would only take you 2 seconds longer to call my house for me to verify my land line.  I would even be happy if you only did it for me.  Please quit being so greedy and realize some of us are at "Rock bottom".  In other words,  no matter what, I'm not paying for anything else.  Even though I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place, not one more penny is being spent on anything.  I have none.  I already possess a return number and I'd like to use that one.

I have the same question for a different reason. Your text implies that we can use our land line numbers for Caller ID but the implementation doesn't allow it. Why not? i have a cell phone but don't want most people knowing or using it because it's rarely on and each call is separately charged. I want any callbacks to be on my land line. How do I make Caller ID show my land line number?

  • Compatible land line cordless phone for HH5?

    Hi,
I want to upgrade from HH1.5 to HH5.  I'm currently using the BB softphone with the HH1.5, so that will have to be binned as it's not compatible with HH5.  My question is what type of cordless land line phone can I use with the HH5?  Would the 8500 or something similar be OK?  I have 1 master socket and 2 extensions which are about 10 years old.

    Go to Solution.

You can use any landline phone, as the HH5 is only a modem/router, and has no phone circuitry inside.
You can still use your BT hub phones in conjunction with the HH5, provided you keep the HH1.5 as well.
This diagram will show you how.
    http://forumhelp.dyndns.info/phones/hh3phone.jpg
If your HH1.5 is still working fine, I would keep using it, as the HH5 does not really offer many advantages, and if you still have the extra Broadband Talk phone number, you will lose it if you change your broadband contract, or ask for a new hub.
The HH1, 1.5 and 2.0, still give better wireless range than the newer home hubs.

  • STRANGER GETS MY LAND LINE NUMBER FROM MY IPHONE CALL

Using my iPhone, I called a stranger in error.  He answered, whereby I realized my mistake.  Instead of being courteous, as I should have been, and saying, "Sorry, wrong number," I simply hung up.  This apparently upset him, because he subsequently called my land line and left a threatening message, telling me never to call again.  So, hmmm, how did he get my land line number?  I'm guessing because it showed up, on his end, when I initially called him with my iPhone.  It was associated with or attached to my iPhone number.  I know that when a certain relative calls me, more than one of her numbers shows up on my call-back notification.
What do I do to prevent this?  I must be able to control and limit the information about me that people I call can get.

There's absolutely no way your land line # was transmitted as CID when calling from your iPhone.  If this person found out your land line #, he looked it up based on the name and/or cell # of your iPhone.
The only way he could have your land line show when you called his cell phone is if he already has your full contact info in his phone, including  your land line - i.e. you are already known to him.
To avoid this in the future:
    1. Disable caller id:  Settings > Phone > Show My Caller ID > OFF
    2. If you don't want to do that, have your carrier transmit only your cell # without your name.  Your name can still be researched, but usually require payment
    3. Get an unlisted land line phone.
    4. Research all the things that can be done with a baseball bat.

  • Why do some home phone connect incoming calls drop after CID announcement?

I just changed my old house land line service with AT&T over to VZ which carries my cell phone accounts. I have the HPC tied into my Panasonic home system with Voice mail recorder and  with 5 cordless handsets. No problem with calling out and receiving a majority of incoming calls. But callers do have trouble calling in. When we initially pick up the handset to take a call after the Caller ID is announced and say Hello, there is only silence. After a 2 to 4 second pause a busy signal is heard that terminates the call attempt. The missed call number is recorded in the ansering systems list as a missed call so at least we know who tried to call, unless it is announced as private or unknown.Has anyone else experienced this?

  • Caller id says MY OWN HOME PHONE NUMBER is calling itself!?!?

Today I apparently got a call from myself, or a ghost!  The phone rings, I look at the caller id, and it says that it is my HOME PHONE NUMBER calling my home phone (itself)!!  I answer, and no one is there.  This has happened before, and I just want to make sure no one is hacking my phone number somehow.  Anybody know what this means??

  • Using home phone for business calls

Can anyone help me?  I use my home phone to make some business calls on.  Is there a way I can see these seperated on my bill? I'm thinking is there a prefix that I can use before i dial the number that highlights it as a work call?

    This would work
Firstly, you'd probably need to upgrade your current landline phone plan to Unlimited Anytime Plan Plus
    More info here - http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/landline/packages?packid=uapplus
Note: The total cost for UAPP is £8 per month (excluding call charges etc).
Then download BTSmart Talk to your mobile phone - http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=35287
You can then print ALL the calls made via the app (it will be billed to your landline account but will actually show as your mobile number via your online BT account).

  • Home Phone Automatically Forwarding to VZW Cell

My Comcast land line home phone automatically forwards to my new VZW Samsung S5. This was not happening before I got the new smart phone. Turning off call forwarding on the land line using *73 does not stop the forwarding.
When I first got the new S5, one of the set up screens asked me to enter my home phone number, which I did. I suspect this has something to do with why the home phone is now automatically forwarding to the cell.
Any ideas on how to turn this off?
    Thanks.

        RichmondTarga,
That seems to be a strange issue that is going on. Let's route these calls to the right number. Do you have a Comcast application on your device at all? When it was asking for your home phone number do you remember what section the setup process you were on? Please keep us posted.

  • Save by eliminate home phone?

I have a triple play deal which includes verizon fios home phone with unlimited calling. I asked whether there would be any savings if I elimnated the home phone, but I just kept getting told I'd lose all the savings from triple play and renewals. I just want a straight answer, as to what the real cost of the phone service is, and what I'd lose in discounts. Can;t get a straight answer

I can definitely understand your frustration!  I have had consistent trouble with verizon since i started with them in may 2013. it was to be a "deal" with direct tv.  none of the pricing since day 1 was even remotely accurate. 5 different techs had to come to our residence, all of which said different things (problem with line going to house, another said they never had service in my area, another said it was inside, another said issues with some problem down the road, another said entire line bad going into nearest town)...being billed every month when each month soooo many days had no service whatsoever, countless calls to verizon, promises for a discount, promises for credits, paying in to them now hundreds of dollars, sitting here unable to even use the phone this entire month, just static, cannot figure out online here how to even get ahold of anyone to get credits for no service, or even to report the problem! nonsense!! the phone doesnt work at all! the info online on verizon website has..."simple...just call!"....               i am disgusted and can do nothing about it...the bills keep coming, i pay them, cant use the phone over 80% of the time,  its ridiculous...and yet, all the times I did get ahold of them, I ended up getting transferred to this person, then that person, then accused of it being something inside, then accused of wanting credits for non service but didnt call to let them know, then I get promised something else when I cal I get to speak to someone in costa rica...wow, I have to make it a goal to get this taken care of somehow!!

Hi it's me rabia and i'm apple user
I want to change my cell phone because it's having scratches on it and i also feel like its home button did't work correctly
So i want to know that can i have a new cell phone on replace of this one at any nearby of my house App store without any cost  ?
But i'm not having any line yet on my phone i use it on net mostly so what is the scene can i have or can't ??
    please inform me soon !

Is your phone still covered by warranty?  If so, go to your nearest Apple store and depending on what happened, this may or may not be covered by warranty.  If it is, then you can get a replacement exactly as the phone you already have.
If out of warranty, then there is nothing you can do and you'll have to pay.

  • Verizon installed a month ago and my land line phone won't work

Had Verizon installed in December. My old internet/phone/cable provider raised their rates so I shopped around and went with Verizon. Soon after, my cordless phone would stop working. No dial tone and if someone tried to phone me, they would get a busy signal.
I've called Verizon several times for a fix. First replaced the line from the phone to the jack, then had a technician come out who said everything was fine. Had another tech come out and replace the battery pack in the garage. The phone will work, then go static and nothing.
I bought a new cordless phone, bought a new corded phone, bought a dsl filter..Nothing is fixing the problem. I went outside, plugged the phone into the box, made sure the wires were snug and voila the phone works...OUTSIDE. So now Im told its an inside wiring problem and I can a) add the inside wiring maintenance plan but can't use it for 30 days. b) call a technician to diagnose and fix the problem at $91 for the first 30 minutes and $46 for every 30 minutes thereafter.
Never had phone problems with Brighthouse. Not sure why now suddenly it's the house wiring when everything worked before Verizon. I don't have a cell phone so the land line phone is my only way of communicating. Does anyone have any tips or solutions? I feel like Im getting royally screwed here. This sucks, wish I never shopped around, wish I never switched providers.

Verizon installed FIOS last Thursday (Jan 30).  Friday and thru the weekend I had no dial tone.  Since Verizon makes it impossible to talk with a human being, I had to email customer service.  Even telling them I'm disabled with no cell phone, never heard back until today (Monday),  Eventually went through "wifi" customer service, had on-line chat & upon informing him of my disability he said he'd immediately transfer me to get the issue fixed on Friday.  Nothing.  I called the 888 number this morning to ask for assistance.  They sent a technician out.  First tech installed to incorrect outlet (when I turn off laundry light, it turns off the back-up box, so it continually beeps).  Current tech told me to go to Radio Shack and purchase "a thing that will allow me to split the power; Radio Shack will know what I'm talking about."  Also, only one of my phones (circa 1980 model) works.   Even the cordless phones I had to purchase for Vonage no longer work.  Current tech said, "COSTCO has a great set of Vtec cordless phones that will work fine."
When I made the request to return to Verizon I was told I could return to copper.  I specifically requested that & after research the Customer Service person told me it was still available in my neighborhood.  Yet, when 1st tech showed up, told me that was not true & I "had to go to FIOS."
So, Verizon installed a FIOS network I did not want, REQUIRING me to purchase phones I don't need.  In fact, all of my corded phones worked just fine previous to FIOS!
As much as I detested Vonage I'm already to leave Verizon.  Next step, Virginia Utilities Commission.

  • Can I replace my land line with an iPhone and keep the same phone number?  Thanks.

Hi,  Can I replace my land line with an iPhone and keep the same AT&T phone number?  Thanks.

    Hi
There are always some wrinkles in this kind of change.  If you have a home security system like ADT they require a land-line for their system to work.  This less of an issue in apartments and condos - it's mostly a "house" issue.
Before you make the switch (and there may be a switching fee) just make sure you cover all the bases.
    Cheers

  • Looking for a special land line phone system

    Hello to all,
Is there a phone system available where a wireless component plugs into a phone jack and transmits the signal to a full base phone?
This sounds confusing but here's the situation. My mom has an apartment in an assisted living residence.
The land line phone jack is on a wall across the room where she normally sits.
I could buy a 30 foot line and run it across the floor to bring the phone base to her, but I was hoping that this type of phone system exists. I wanted to eliminate running a long phone line.
Has anyone heard or seen this? Thanks in advance for your help.

Do you mean something like  THIS  ?

  • I want to add Home Phone Connect but I have 5 numbers

I want to add Home Phone Connect but I have 5 numers on my unlimited mobile-to-mobile family share plan. Is it possible to still add this to my plan as a 9.99 a

    jehrlh,
This is a great question and one that will benefit other users!  Home Phone Connect is an alternative to typical home service at a low cost! At this time, the limit of lines on a Family Share plan is five, however you can still add the Home Connect to your account. It would have its own line including unlimited domestic calling and great benefits like call forwarding, voicemail, 3-way calling and more, all for $20/month! Right now, our website is offering the device for free with contract!
    Thank you!

  • When I press on a land line number, the phone does not call the number, but comes up with a screen to send a text to it.  How do I get my phone to default to phoneing a landline?

When I press on a land line number, the phone does not call the number, but comes up with a screen to send a text to it.  How do I get my phone to default to phoneing a landline?  When I press a mobile number in contacts, the phone automatically phones the number.  I do not mind this as I hardly ever send texts, but I would like to have the option of what to do.  This seems such an obvious issue but I can not solve it even with much web searching.  Thanks!

I can't delete my question, so I'll just say that you press on the type of number written in the box to the left of the box you typye the number into.  Dumb or what?

  • I am trying to set up iCloud keychain, but it keeps sending the verification code to my land line, even tho I have gone into my apple account and changed to my mobile phone

I am trying to set up Icloud keychain, but it keeps sending the verification code to my land line (which I guess I entered back when I first got my MacBook).  I have gone into my apple account and changed the # to my mobile phone, but it continued to send it to the land line.  Probably is something simple, but I am not a techy!!

    Hi,
As regardss to the iChat and iChat Sharing categorisation you have used.
In iChat 6 (lion) and Messages (Mountain Lion) the apps login to AIM and to Me.com
The Login to Me.com allows AIM to verify the password to the iCloud issued names (@me.com and @iCloud.com)
This "Dual" login also prevents the newer iCloud issued name from using this site
(it has extra Privacy settings that iChat can't access for your AIM and Aim valid Accounts)
Ignoring the @mac.com and MobileMe entries in the Add Account Screen in iChat and using the AIM one does not get around this issue.
AIM and @mac.com names still work in older versions of iChat.
The short answer is that iCloud issued Apple IDs do not work in iChat 5 or Earlier.
