I want the 12'' but...

I'm going to buy an Apple powerbook and had my eyes set on the beautiful 12-inch. I plan to use it for film editing and screenwriting w/ Final Draft. I hate writing at home, so I figured the 12'' would be perfect to write at coffee shops, parks, libraries, etc... I'm not a professional filmmaker (I'm aspiring) but I do love editing and creating short film projects.
I recently visted an Apple store to drool over the 12'' when one of the employees told me that the 12'' is not a big difference from the iBooks. He advised me to go for the 15''. Is it true that the 12'' is almost the same as an iBook? I really want th 12'' because the size seems perfect (although I'm not sure if the screen would bug me after a while of film-editing). Plus, I'm not sure I can afford the 15''. I thought I would be fine w/ buying the 12'' along with some extra external space.
Any thoughts?

I am the past owner of three (3) 12" models. Two G3 ibooks, and the current 12" powerbook. I now own a 15" TiBook.
The screen real-estate for the 15" is far superior to the 12" imho, and the quality of the lcd panel is much better too. As I type on my almost 5 year old 400 mhz Tibook, I cannot tell you enough how much better quality this screen is compared to the 12". Honestly, I think the 12" powerbook and iBook use the same panel. I couldn't tell much of a difference. They even use the same chassis design.
If you're going to be doing any kind of video editing, spring for a bigger screen. I used my 12" for writing (since I am a literature/education major) but that can be tiring if you want to use multiple windows. Even writing on a 15" widescreen is MUCH better. I urge you to go up a size. I was afraid I'd lose portability, but I am surprised to find I still can tote it around almost anywhere.

Your iPhone and iPod can share the same iTunes account. Apps can be freely shared and used by one or both devices. You can't use money in your iTunes account to pay for your phone, but purchased apps can be used by both the iPod and iPhone.

Ho do I disconnect the "warning" of a web page trying to redirect from the "Firefox did not allow this page to reload"? I want the first, but not the second option.

The new firefox now does not allow many pages to reload. I must click the "allow" button and still it often does not allow a reload. I know I can disable the function, but then I must also disable the warning if a page tries to redirect to a new site. So...Why must I give up a security feature to get rid of an annoying reload issue? I want to be notified when a page tries to redirect, but I don't want an "argument" from the system every time I try to reload specific web sites. How can I keep one and disable the other?

you need to encode the href so that it can be sent as a parameter value. Otherwise it interprets the & as a standard parameter separator.
I believe the window.escape function should do this

I want the 3GS - but not with a noose around my neck

I like the new features in the 3GS, BUT I won't be getting one because of AT&T's punitive pricing tiers for their existing customers. What broke the camel's back for me is the requirement to extend the contract for another 2 years. Is AT&T Wireless so afraid of it's churn rate that it believes that it can't survive without an indentured customer base? This is coming at a time when carriers are starting to revert back to 1-year contracts.
I would have been happy to spend $700 (now) for a 32GB 3GS - BUT I'm not going to pay full price AND extend my contract for 24 months. If I bought the 3GS, I would have then dumped my 16GB 3G on eBay or Craigslist - and that would potentially have given AT&T a new customer. That is AT&T's loss.
I believe that AT&T dropped the ball on this one. IMO, the 3GS purchase options should have been something along the lines of:
1) pay full price with no contract extension. Why? Because your current contract is already paying off the subsidy on your current phone.
2) for new customers - purchase a subsidized phone and a new 24 month contract.
3) for existing customers whose current phone is subsidized - allow customer to pay off the subsidy on the current phone, pay full price with no contract extension or purchase a subsidized phone and extend their contract for another 24 months.
4) for existing customers greater than 24 months (aka: month-to-month customers) - pay full price with no contract extension or purchase a subsidized phone and extend their contract for another 24 months.

I am eligible for the upgrade in December 2009. My 24 months is up at the end of July 2010. I'll upgrade the battery in my 16GB 3G this autumn to a higher capacity battery - this will extend the life of my iPhone. Then I will wait for the summer of 2010. I want to see if Apple comes out with a new dual-core iPhone in 2010, on a different carrier - or at the very least for the price to become lower.
For now, there are not enough features-to-cost for me to justify paying full price for a 3GS and extending my contract for another 2 years.

Unlike the schmo that wrote that article, I don't have a problem with the subsidy. I just want to be able to purchase the phone outright, pay the activation fee, and not have to extend my contract.
BTW, I logged onto my account and went through the "no committment" upgrade option. It defaulted me to the $499/2-year renewal program. groan

What you are hearing is correct. There is currently no Mac app for iBooks, so no way to get them on the Mac.
You can use many of the other e-reader apps like Kindle on all of your devices and your Mac.

What series to buy for this use... really want the lenovo but not sure which one

i am doubting between t400/t400s and x200/x200s
what am i using it for:
- well i'm into internet marketing and some web development
- using web analytics sites, assessment sites, promotional sites, you tube, twitter, facebook etc.
- so i surf the internet (wireless : at home through wlan and when travelling wifi)
- email
- i have to be able to design a banner or webpromo on regular basis for which i use primarely photoshop
- i really need to be able to use it in light environmenst & outdoors as i like to be in the sun :-)

T400s, X200 and X200s are mainly built for road warriors where they don't want to carry extra weight and yet still have a powerful enough laptop for their light photoshop work, document processing, HD movies, powerpoint and publisher, etc.
For outdoors you should look to the new 'Special series of X200t (t for tablet)' which has this new screen that is specifically designed for people whom use their laptop in the outdoor environment providing maximum brightness and minimal reflectivity.

For movies and streaming hd movies, any of these laptop would be sufficient, as T8xxx, T9xxx Penryn processors are have SSE 4 included that have special algorithm that increases processor efficiency for HD movie decoding. Also Intel X4500 MHD integrated graphics card are specifically designed for blu ray and hd movie decoding without using CPU resources.
If you do light photoshop work, then any of these laptops are fine. 9 cells in a T400s or X200 or X200s should get you upwards of 5 hours use on a single charge.
The T400s have built in displayport out, which is missing in the T400, while the X200 and X200s can use this port only through the ultrabase dock.
The one thing that T400 can be optioned with is the dual gpu if you get the ATI graphics card, which includes the X4500 and ATI 3470 which one use depends on whether you are after graphic processing power or battery life.

There is no free or paid download of any OS X system version below Lion OS 10.7. Apple does provide free downloads of updates to the base OS X.

Go to settings>messages>send and receive at>you can be reached by iMessages at> Uncheck your phone number and you can select your Apple ID emal address if you want to use that for messages.

You can connect the iPad to your Mac's iTunes and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases, that should copy it over to the Movies part of your library.
Depending upon what country that you are in, and whether the film studio allows it, you might also be able to re-download it on your Mac via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page.

I want the cursor to be in the address bar when creating a new window; it works for new tabs and in a new private window, but not in safe mode.

I have tried following the advice offered in the few different threads I have found on this but nothing fixes it. I want the cursor to be in the address bar when I open a new window and/or when firefox opens without restoring a previous session. I fixed the issue for new tabs via about:config but this doesn't work for new windows. I tried safe mode and the problem persists. In new private windows the cursor is in the address bar.

The search box in about:home steals the cursor. Changing your home page to something else will cause the cursor to start in the address bar for new windows.

You said you updated yur 1G iPod to 4.2.1. A 1G can only go to 3.1.3 and thus you must have jailbroken it to get to 4.2.1 and that can cause problems.
