I want this on Scott McNealy's desk by tomorrow

The java technology has evolved nicely over the years. It is doing very well on the server side; on the mobile side all the major players are announcing java enabled devices. But on the side where you expect people to really get acquainted with the java as a platform, on the desktop, nothing has happened. Now think about this;
Is Bill Gates successful because he is a good programmer or is it because he ha a brilliant understanding of what computer users like.
You enter a room where the smell is bad, you do not know what it smells like but you know you don�t like it.
Or you enter a room where the smell is good, the scenery is nice and you got to do almost all the things you want. It could be better but the man says he will fix it till the next time.
Or as in Sun�s case you enter a dentist office, it smells bad, all you here about is the technical terms of what you are about to get your teeth filled with.
This is how most people think of java on the desktop and especially on the web in applets. Now consider this, on the server side Sun has no real possibility to tell the user that they are really entering a Java based Site, On mobile devices People really don�t care if their cell phone is java enabled or not, Nokia and the likes are going to make it clear that the cell phones can do a lot of things, but they are not going to tell you that it all comes down to Java.
So where does it live us. Yes right back to the PC. All the time sun has had an opportunity to fix the ugly gray loading screen they choose not to. Why is that? I can�t imagine why. When ordinary people are using java enabled sites they really should be reminded with a pretty logo like the java Logo, on I nice white background and perhaps some bouncing effect like what Apple are using in their new OS X.
This would not just make it more pleasing for the user, it would also make it more acceptable for the power developer who now is trying to use Flash to do things java Applets also could do.
But this has not happened; we are still stuck with the gray background. In JRE 1.4 Beta, the screen also appears with a progress bar and some information about which classes are currently loading. Do you Scott; really think that this is what ordinary users would like to see when they enter a java enabled site? (I can barely use the computer but hey this site is loading the imagine that class, what I joy)
Why not try to get some free publicity, make the java logo appear as the default image on a nice background, preferably made by a designer who knows his job.
To me It looks like Suns motto is:

Java should be the Dolby of the new decade.
If you are as old or older then me, then you will be able to remember back when dolby was important. Important on recordings you bought, important on stereo equipment you bought.
Almost noone knew what its effect was, but they knew it was good. Even less people had even the slightest idea of how it actually worked and what the real effect was (but it was good).
If java is potentially everywhere, why not allow it to become a brand like that .... its not as if it takes much effort from sun. Just not doing stuppid things like they are with plug-in 1.4 is enough !!!
