How do I get the old Thunderbird back? I HATE the way the space where the e-mail addresses go is now configured. It's confusing. WHY DO YOU CHANGE THINGS I DIDN'T ASK YOU TO CHANGE??????????????????????????????????????

I find after a few weeks I simply forgot to be annoyed at the new Compose window. Do bear in mind that a couple of reasons for updates are security fixes and enhancements, so using older versions does come with some risks.

I tried this and wasn't entirely happy with the result, but then I choose to use themes that give a Windows XP sort of feel and maybe they mess up the fix given above.

Firefox used to look OK until it upgraded itself. I do NOT like the small search box and the list of available languages plus other admin. options when I open Firefox. What you had before looked more like the entry screen to a search engine, but your recent upgrade makes it look like an Options page after you have entered something and whilst it is still deciding which language you wish to use.
I would like to be using a more professional looking HomePage and would like to know how to restore the screen display to something like was offered in the previous version!

Not sure if this will help, but what is your inDesign file's "Transparency Blend Space" set to? It's under the edit menu.
Also, when you are placing your images, are you selecting "Show Import Options" and making any selections there?

What makes the audio spectrum look the way it does?

The audio spectrum generated preset in CS6 looks different from most audio spectrums. What exactly is it doing to the actual spectrum to make it look the way it does? And is it possible to get something similar to that to render in realtime for use as a visualizer with a media player, say Winamp or iTunes.

Hi there, (revised 19-march-2002, thanks Glenn!)
This article describes how I build my K7N420pro system and how to make it stable.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE DISCHARGED ANY STATIC ELECTRICITY FROM YOUR BODY BEFORE HANDLING ANY COMPONENTS.
It is recommended to use an antistatic wristband if you have one.
When you remove the motherboard from the packaging, put the board on a table with some cardboard under it, make sure there is no metal stuff under it (that can cause shorts and unnecessary posts on this forum)
Clear the CMos first, this is done by setting the jumper JBAT to position 2-3 for 5 seconds, then put it back to position 1-2.
(Check the board for pin 1 of this jumper as some manuals have an error on this!!!) Just remember to refer to the printing on the motherboard itself and keep in mind that pins 1&2 are default settings for any 3 pin jumper configuration.
Check the CPU socket for the little yellow-stripe, bend it carefully in such a manner that it will make contact with the CPU. (I think he's talking about the the temp sensor here, I do not recommend bending or even touching this sensor unless for some reason it was mashed into the mobo. If you must, make sure your fingers are dry or cleaned with alcohol to remove any hand oils)
Now insert the CPU into the socket, very little pressure is needed, if any. It fit's only 1 way!!!
(do not apply thermal paste yet)
Remove the pink-stuff on the heatsink if it's on there, and clean it with alcohol or nail polish remover. If you use Nail polish remover give it a once over with alcohol to cut any moisturizers that may have been added. Nail polish remover will work on some thermal pads where alcohol would only prepare it for surgery.
Now check very carefully how the Cooler must be mounted!!!
Take your time and do a test run (do not apply thermal paste yet) by attaching the front clip first by holding the hs/fan assembly above the cpu with one of your fingers holding the tension clip down and hooking it on the front plastic clip and then resting the heatsink on the cpu's rubber pads (it is not necessary to fasten the other retaining clip, remember this is a trial run).
This way you can see how it fits and you can make sure there is enough clearance from any components. You can do this a couple of times, this way when you have applied the thermal paste, set the heatsink down and fasten the clip, there will be minimal movement between the die and the heatsink, wich can squeeze too much thermal paste out of position and create air pockets. Then there's that problem of cracking the die.
Put some silver-grease on the die of the CPU, follow the directions from Arctic Silver.
After you have done this connect the fan connector to the CPUFAN1 header, but only if it's a normal 4000-6000RPM cooler, if it's a High-speed-fan connect it directly to the powersupply!!!!
Now make sure jumper SW2 is set to Auto-mode.
Short the jumpers JA1 if you want the sound to come from the connectors near the parallel-port.
Put the ram-stick(s) on the board in slot1&2, press them firmly until the plastic-clips click into them.
Check your powersupply and make sure it can handle the power needed by this board and the CPU, most good 300W will do.
Check the case for the metal-spacers you need between the board and the case, make very sure that they are all placed right and that there are not too many!!!!
Now you are ready to place the board into the case....
Connect all the other stuff and power the system ONLY after you double checked everything.
Make sure that the harddisk flat-cable is connected with the blue connector to the board.
When it starts, go into the BIOS and load the BIOS Setup Defaults, after that goto the Frequency/Voltage Control section and only change the CPU FSB/DRAM/AGP Clock setting to this:
Duron -> 100/266/66 or 100/200/66
Athlon 200FSB -> 100/266/66 or 100/200/66
Athlon 266FSB -> 133/266/66
Athlon XP -> 133/266/66
Goto advanced BIOS Features and Disable APIC (it's mostly disabled by default)
Change the boot sequence to:
First boot device Floppy
Second Boot device CDrom
Third Boot device HDD-0
(After your OS is setup you can just setup your First Boot Device as HDD-0 and disable the others. Actually I just use First Boot Device and toggle to what I need as I go, you will have to monitor your OS installation at first untill the first reboot, you must enter the BIOS and switch it from the CD/ROM to the HDD-0 or it will loop.)
Goto the Integrated Peripherals section MCP OnChip PCI device and disable/enable what you need or don't need.
Now save the stuff and put your Win2000 (or XP) CDrom into the first CDrom drive you have.
Let it boot and create your partitions, it's best to format your system drive to FAT32 (NTFS is slower) and make sure it's not bigger then 32GB or you can't format it FAT32 under Win2000 (don't know about XP). I would recommend FAT32 over NTFS on both 2000 and XP. (Some people will disagree with me)
Make sure you use an account name with normal characters, so don't use 臄 or whatever, or you may/will get into trouble installing drivers.
After Win2000 (XP) has been installed, install ServicePack2 and Dirtectx 8.1 for Win2000 (XP has those allready).
Stay away from using the drivers on the disk supplied.
Then install the nForce 1.0 ref-drivers, can be downloaded from MSI or
http://www.nvidia.com/
After this you should be able to rock-and-roll
When you have problems with certain devices, you could try the BIOS 2.3, but don't use the LiveBIOS to do this, read my other article on "How to flash a BIOS"

It freezes, it lags, I get kicked out of my apps, my messages do not send half of the time, I can't view the pictures in my camera roll if I enlarge them, and the phone glitches randomly. How can this be fixed or what do I need to do to get it replaced??

My iPad no longer switches screen when i go from holding it horizontal to vertical. How can I change it back in settings to have the screen look the way I am holding the iPad

My screen no longer moves with the way I'm holding the iPad. For example if I'm holding it horizontal the screen is vertical. Up unitl now the screen has always moved with the way I was holding the ipad. Is there something in Settings I can do to get this back?

If you see a lock icon in the upper right corner of the screen - then the screen orientation is locked.
Try the side switch above the volume rocker first and see if that unlocks the screen. If that doesn't do it, double tap the home button and swipe to the right and look for the lock icon all the way to the left. (IOS 6). For iOS 7, swipe up from the bottom to get to the control center and look for the lock icon in the top row on the right.
If the screen is unlocked but still will not rotate, reset the iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the button

I think I laughed out loud in the Apple store when I made Logic crash. Not an evil, maniacal laugh, though I think people turned to see what was going on. But their attention was quickly diverted because there was this other guy in the store who was barking out loud like a dog (I kid you not). He probably had Tourette's which, strangely enough, didn't seem affect him when he answered his cell phone and talked for a while. Once he got off the phone, though, he continued barking. At one point he bent way over and peered under the counter on which the Macs were displayed, presumably to locate the lost dog. A boy, about 13 or 14 stationed at the Mac next to him shook his head in an awkward display of disapproval. I think it was his first time trying out the gesture in public. In response I rolled my eyes at him. Mentally.
The barking man countinued barking as he left the store while I stood there arguing with the salesperson as to why I shouldn't have to show a second form of ID to purchase their fine appliances.
All in all, a surreal experience.
But anyway, I'm home with my date. Now it's time to "get to know her". I've got my "protection" and pretty soon I'll snap the rubber gloves.

Copy Cell not working the way it did in Numbers '08

It seems that Numbers '09 changes the way things get copied and its ruining my work process. I've got a spreadsheet with video timecode and transcriptions in it that I'm doing a rough paper edit in and then copying the timecode into Final Cut Pro.
In Numbers '08 if you select a cell and copy, the text inside gets copied as formatted text. So when pasting into Final Cut, I'd get this:
00:00:07:20
But in Numbers '09, I get this:
Unnamed Table
00:00:07:20
And if I paste it into TextEdit, it pastes the cell as a cell of a table with the name Unnamed Table above it.
That being said, when I just tried to write this post up, I pasted the cell into this form box and it looked like this:
00:00:07:20
So, it would seem that if you are pasting into a plain text area it pastes the basic text, but if you're pasting into a rich text formatted box, it will try to paste a Table.
I guess my problem is that the Timecode boxes in Final Cut are reading rich text when they really shouldnt be.

Ok so in Photoshop CS3 i took an image, duplicated the layer, put an effect on the duplicated layer, and then blended the images... It gives me an effect im looking for... So now my question is how am I able to select say 900 other images and have it automatically do the same process for each one without me having to do each one separately?

you need to do it one more time. this time record it as an action (record button in the actions palette). then use that action to batch process your 900 images.

I have been experiencing connection issues with loading web pages. It's as if the web pages do not want to load all the way and some times not at all. This has happen with all three of my computers with the same browsers.

There are times when web pages do not want to load fully and other times not at all. They just continue to open up with a blank screen. My routers light flash during this process and then they stop as if no connection is being made. I do know for sure it is not my ISP or internet explorer browser.

I continue to have this problem and have tried all recommendations so far...I notice also when I click on a web site on the taps side of browser once it starts loading however it does not connect, web site comes up just blank while it continues to search. The same thing happens while in an email program with clicking in the email link and page pops up and continues to search for the web site. You have to reload over and over again until it finally locates it and then opens. Should I uninstall the Firefox browser and install again.....?

IHeartNYMuseums.com no longer loads properly with Firefox 4. It worked everyday up until yesterday when I switched over to Firefox 4. (I also tested it with IE and it doesn't seem to load there either, so it may or may not be a Mozilla Firefox issue.) Any tips?

So it looks like they're doing some house cleaning.

In website, Firefox will not go to the next screen. Instead I have to click 'allow'. This is on sites where I never had this problem. I want it back to the way it was.

On sites that I have been using for many months with no problem, when I click to go to the next screen (like 'continue'), it doesn't go to the screen. I get a bar and have to click 'Allow'. This is happening continuously on screens where it didn't do it before. If it were occasional I wouldn't mind. But it happens all the time. What was changed in Firefox to cause this problem. It has really been a pain paying bills online.

What is the message to the left of the Allow button? Hopefully with that information we can advise on changes to your settings to resolve the issue.
You also could supply a URL of a site that has this problem, assuming we don't need an account to check it out.
