I want to access iCloud with POP3 protocol, NOT IMAP

I want my mail and contacts stored LOCALLY, not on your server. I do NOT want to use IMAP protocol for my iCloud account, I want to use POP3. I have paid for my email account for over 10 years, and still list it at "mac.com". If I cannot do this I will fianlly have to DUMP any connection with Apple-based email. What a betrayal! Who decided FOR me that I want IMAP. I want POP3.

I know I'm not communicating with Apple here. They do not listen.
I use the MobileMe/iCloud precisely for synching multiple devices. As soon as they are synched, I delete them from the common server and store them locally on my devices. This allows me to save different mail and contacts on different devices. I have control of my information locally. THAT is the point of POP3. I only use the servers for synching
I want the ability to synch them but not to be FORCED to synch them. As I say, I have been doing this for over 10 years with my mac.com account.
I am looking for anyone who has managed to subvert Apple's enforced policy and succeeded in accessing with POP3.

    Hi ccharat,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you did a good job editing your Apple ID and primary email address, but you didn’t sign out of iCloud on your iOS device before hand. What you may need to do in this situation is go back to the Apple ID website and edit your Apple ID and primary email address back to the email address that is signed in with iCloud (there is no need to verify the account after editing it back to the old account, just changing it back is enough). Once your Apple ID is back to the original account, delete the iCloud account from the iOS device and be sure to keep all info on the device when prompted. After you delete the iCloud account, go back to the website and edit your Apple ID and primary email address back to the new address. Once it is back to the account you would like, you can sign into the iCloud on the iOS device with that new account and merge all of the data when prompted. Please use the following article as a reference.
iOS 7: If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud

    Change your Apple ID temporarily
If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't help, try these steps:
Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
Go to Settings > iCloud. Complete these steps only if the Find My [Device] setting is turned on:
Scroll down and tap Delete Account, then tap Delete to confirm.
Tap “Keep on My [Device]” or “Delete from My [Device].” In either case, your data remains in iCloud and will be updated on your device when you sign in to iCloud again.
Enter the password for your previous Apple ID.
Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
Return to Settings > iCloud and sign in with your new Apple ID.
    I hope this helps,
    -Joe

  • I have a Mac book pro on vesion 10.6.8 and want to access icloud as it works great on my iphone 4.  Not sure best way to upgrade as some of the review of Lion on the appstore are awful.  Any advice

I have a Mac book pro on vesion 10.6.8 and want to access icloud as it works great on my iphone 4.  Not sure best way to upgrade as some of the review of Lion on the appstore are awful.  Any advice as I also have MIcrosoft word etc and don't want to have to purchase these again.

That is the best list ever for Lion compatibility!
    You can also do this:
Launch the programs you know and love on your Snow Leopard Mac.
    Utilities --> Activity Monitor
Under the "Kind" tab it will identify the programs running PowerPC, Intel and Intel 64.
No PowerPC apps will run under Lion.
Don't worry about Apple's system stuff like Mail, iCal, Safari.
Don't worry about the system processes, like fontd and launchd, those will be replaced if you go to Lion.
Just look for the programs that you need.

You need 10.7.5 or later for iCloud.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
    A. Upgrading to Mountain Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mountain Lion or Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion or Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

    B. Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.

  • With POP3 protocol, How Outlook access all the folders

    Hi friends,
I have some doubts. Our mail server doesn't support the IMAP protocol. When i access the mails using Outlook, then I m able to get all the messages of INBOX as well as Trash & Deleted Messages?
How it happens, When only INBOX is accessible to user Using POP3 protocol. Using Outlook web access, I m able to access all the folder as well as I m able to create the folders also.
Can somebody tell me how does it works?

Outlook uses a Microsoft-specific protocol called MAPI. And your statement that your server doesn't support IMAP isn't quite correct. MS Exchange does support IMAP, but you have to ask the administrator to switch on IMAP support. The default setup for Exchange has it turned off.

  • How can I access iCloud with my Macbook Pro with 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo?

I would like to know how to use iCloud on my MacBook Pro as I have other Apple products that are newer than this laptop and I would like to synch with the iCloud between all products.  I can synch with the iCloud with my iphone 5 and my iMac.

You must be able to upgrade it to 10.7.2 or later for iCloud:

  • Safari can access iCloud with 1 login, but not others on same MBP

    Hi all,
On my login I can access iCloud, but when I try it on the kids login, it comes up with a message about not being able to connect to server. I can access any other website ok.
The only parental control is to bar explicit websites, otherwise they have free access, and I have also added the iCloud URL to allowed websites.
Would any of you kind souls be able to assist me with this problem?
    Many Thanks

  • How to get Flags.Flag.SEEN correctly with POP3 protocol?

It works well with IMAP, but POP3 not.
    :-(

POP3 does not support message flags. There may be some implementations out there that do have flags but the specification does not require them.

  • Can I access icloud with more than one Apple ID account on an ipod touch?

I just bought a new ipod touch and would like to know if I can download past purchases from my fiances Apple ID account using icloud on the ipod touch we are going to share because I am having a problem with being unable to authorize the one macbook computer that we share with both of our accounts. As a solution I was thinking about logging into his account on icloud on our ipod touch and downloading his purchased apps. Will this work?? Thank you so much for reading this I appreciate all and any responses you may leave me.

You can do that, but if you switch back to the other account, you'll lose everything bought from the first account. We're talking about an iTunes account. You do not want to share the same iCloud account otherwise you both get the same emails, contacts, messages, calendars, etc if you turn those services on for iCloud.

i can not set up a icloud account with my apple ID on my laptop. I have down loaded icloud and am asked to enter my apple ID then it says i can access the account with an apple ID?

Your can't create an iCloud account on a PC.  You have to create the account on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) or Mac running OS X Lion or higher, if you have one.  After creating the account on one of these devices you can sign into the account on your PC.

  • Cannot access iCloud with Firefox 13.01/OSX 10.7.4

On my MacBook Pro running OS X 10.7.4, Firefox 13.01 will not load https://www.icloud.com/ I have Adblocker disabled for this page.
I can successfully load the page using Safari, but my preference is to use Firefox.
A couple of weeks ago I did speak (now can't remember if it was voice or text - although since my memory says English was not his primary language, it must have been voice) with an Apple CSR. After a pretty lengthy conversation including some rebooting, etc., he ended up saying that he thought it was a Firefox problem.
And yes, I know there are pages for the general issue "cannot load pages" that have a laundry list of things to try and tweak. Because my issue is with a SINGLE website address, I really would prefer not to tweak my whole machine just for one site.
    Thanks

I tried the following without any success.
    1) Clicked on App Store.app from Finder
    2) Clicked on App Store from LaunchPad
    3) Clicked on Applications, App Store
    4) Logged out of iTunes App Store, did 1, 2, and 3
    5) Logged back into iTunes App Store, repeated 1, 2, and 3
If I am able to solve this, I will post my solution. But I am not very hopeful. Here is some additional info about the iMac in case it is of any use.
