I want to add a contact to multiple groups in address book.

I know in gmail it's easy to do this but I don't know how to on Lion. I don't want the contacts to show up twice but I need them to be in multiple contact groups. Thanks in aadvance!

From Address Book Help:
When viewing the list of groups, select one or more contacts and drag them to a group or folder.If the list of groups isn’t displayed, choose View > Groups or click the Groups icon at the top of the Address Book window.
When viewing the list of contacts and a card, drag one or more contacts to the Groups icon at the top of the Address Book window until the page turns to show the list of groups, and then continue dragging the contacts to the group where you want to add them.Took a while to find out, all so different to SL.

ok, this seems simple, but once again, Mac disagrees and makes it impossibly complicated. I typed in about 15 email addresses for a mass mailing I did in Mail recently, and I want to save these people as a group. I'll send emails to them all again in the future. here are the problems I've encountered:
1. when I select all the addresses in the "sent" message header, and then select "add to address book," it only adds one of the addresses. ridiculous.
2. even if I was to add them individually, I would then need to manually create a new group in address book, and then add each address one by one. again, ridiculous.
3. one suggestion on here was to export my entire address book, then delete all entries, add the ones from the message, save them as a group, then re-import the original addresses. again, and again, ridiculous.
why is this so difficult? am I missing something?

figured it out. when in doubt, drag.
highlight the entries you want to save, open address book, create a new group name, and drag the entries from mail and drop them on the group. done.

Add work contacts to my personal icloud address book

I'm am currently using my icloud address book with my private email address and the contacts in that listing are friends and family. I would like to add my work contacts from my office outlook to my icloud (but keeping them seperate). Currently my work email/contacts are set up on my phone seperatly, but I do not know how to add them to my icloud. can i add them or must I switch my icloud on my phone to my work email address?

I'd love to figure out how to quickly capture a bulk emailing list and add all of them to an Address Book GROUP at once.
This list would be either -
In the TO: field - from an email I received
- or -
In the TO: field - of an email I am sending (reply all)
ALTERNATIVE
Is there ANY WAY to drag and drop individual (or multiple) email addresses from Apple Mail into address book as New Entries into a specific GROUP?
If Apple Mail can't do it - is there any email program that does allow drag and drop new entries into a specific GROUP?
NOTE - There IS Select All/RightClick/AddToAddressBook - but those go into the general directory.

So far, FWIW all I've got is individual AddToAddressBook, then in AB itself, drag and drop one by one from the main list into the desired group.

I have been on address book help and have found where it clearly explains how to remove a contact from a group? Problem is the program will not highlight the option in the edit menu to perform this action...what gives???

In your address book on the iMac drag the contact to the All on My Mac section.
Check that section to make sure the contact copied there correctly. Next remove it from the iCloud section and thus from your other devices.

In Snow Leopards Address Book, I was able to select an Address Book Group and then shift-click to select a range of groups. How do you do this in Lion????

It's amazing that it has now been close to three years and no one else has needed org missed this function with the exception of the two of us.
On top of that, my original post was written when I was in 10.6.8 and the same issue is present with 10.9.5!!!!
I'll guess we'll have to wait another few years....

I have already authorized this computer with my Apple ID. I think this only allows me to re-download all purchased applications to the iTunes library again without re-purchasing them. However, iTunes still keeps asking me if I want to "erase and sync" or not.

I'm away from my computer for a while and was trying to add a contact to a group on my iPad/iPhone. I don't want to download another app to handle this simple task. All my mobile devices are up-to-date and have plenty of memory. I tried logging into iCloud on a non-Safari browser but the contact list wouldn't download so I could work on it. You are not doing anything wrong. The feature that you need is totally lacking in the built in Mail app on the iPad.
There are a couple of third party mail apps that will let you do this ... MailShot and Group Email with Attachments. You can check them out in the App Store.

Should not be a problem. If you have set up your
groups in Address Book, they will sync over to your
iPhone. If you view All Contacts, you should have a
tab in the upper left corner which shows Groups. You
hit that, it takes you back to your Group List. Pick
the Group you want to view and this takes you to a
list of contacts within that group. Then in the
upper right corner hit the + key and add your
contact. When you sync back up, your contact should
appear in your Address Book under all Contacts and
under the assigned group.

This only solves half the problem. If you have created a NEW contact from a Google Map lookup, you cannot assign it to a group on the iPhone. You have to wait until you sync back up with Address Book, assign that contact to a group, then sync again. I have pulled a lot of new contacts through the Google Map function (which is amazing BTW) but I have yet to find a way to assign the new contact to a group. Any ideas?

The D2 contacts application doesn't support the "groups" feature that google contacts uses. The contacts feature on the D2 has been customized by Motorola and lacks this feature.

I realize you can add in addresses by going to 'Message' then 'add Sender to Address Book,' but what I'm interested in doing is within Apple Mail, adding multiple addresses into a specific group within address book. I've tried to do this using mail scripts but keep getting an error.
Is it possible to do this?

just make a new one. you cant add to a group. It's really sending the texts out as separate messages. the only thing they have in common is the actual message that is being sent out
