I want to be able access/edit folders and documents on both ipad and macbook pro.

I have a macbook pro (a few years old but fully updated software to the newest OS) and a brand new ipad.
I'm a wedding planner and I want to be able to access my files from both devices. I have a folder for each wedding that contains the various PDF vendor contracts sent to me as well as the word docs that I have designed/edited with my timelines and all that other important informatoin.
I want to be able to access and edit the word docs and view the PDFs on my ipad. I have purchased/installed pages on the ipad to be able to edit the word docs.
I am connected to icloud on both devices and I have checked off the documents selection where you tell icloud what to back up on both devices.
How do I find access everything on the ipad?

Pages will not read PDF files. Make sure that you have Pages setup to use iCloud in Settings>iCloud>Pages>Use iCloud>On as well as turning on Documents and Data in the iCloud settings. If you are setup correclty, your Word files will be in the Pages app on the iPad.
You need a pdf reader on the iPad like iBooks or Adober Reader, but in your case an app like GoodReader or Save2 PDF may be better suited for what you want to do.
GoodReader for iPad for iPad on the iTunes App Store
Save2PDF for iPhone for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the ...
Once you have an app that reads the pdf files you can save them to that app.

I want to share a folder of images with a client who is also using bridge. I want the client to be able to edit metadata and rate the image. How can I do this?

Metadata won't be a problem as long as you use Bridge to copy the file from within Bridge to whatever media (flash drive, CD/DVD. email, etc) you plan to use for the sharing.
I'm not sure about the Label part.  Maybe it will travel along too.

  • We have two iphones and only one ipad.  We want to be able to use "find my iphone" for both phones, which have separate apple ids.  How do we get our ipad to accept this?

We have two iphones and only one ipad - no mac.  We want to be able to use "find my iphone" for both phones.  How do we get the ipad to accept two iphone accounts?  icloud is enabled on all three devices.

Also, be aware of the following:
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief.  All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself.  Something as small as an iPod/iPhone should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.

It does not look like this is possible with iTunes 11 (or 11.0.1).

  • Finder not able to view folders and files on EHD after updating to OS X 10.9.4

I can see still see 'Hitachi' in the 'Devices' Sidebar, but I am not able to view folders and files on this Hitachi XL2000 2TB FAT32 Hard Drive (EHD) that is USB connected to the iMac below.
    Late 2013 Apple iMac (27-inch Display 2560 x 1440), 3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz, 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X4GB, 512GB Flash Storage, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2GB GDDR5, Magic Trackpad, Apple Wireless Keyboard and OS X 10.9.4 Mavericks
All was fine until I updated from OS X 10.9.3 to 10.9.4 earlier this week, so now when I double-click on 'Hitachi' it just loads and loads with nothing happening and never displays the folder and file contents of the EHD.
Also, confirmed that Hitachi EHD has been removed from Spotlight indexing per System Preferences > Privacy > + > Hitachi and it was so this does not seem to be an indexing issue.
I have used OnyX and Apple Disk Utilities unsuccessfully to try and fix this problem.
Interestingly, Backblaze online backup still sees the EHD and connecting this EHD to a Win 8.1 PC also sees the EHD.
Further, I ran the commands below in 'Terminal' to make sure the drive was visible and got the following results which shows that the EHD is not hidden.
    iMac:Applications john$ chflags nohidden /Volumes/Hitachi/
    iMac:Applications john$ GetFileInfo /Volumes/Hitachi/
    directory: "/Volumes/HITACHI"
    attributes: avbstclinmedz
    modified: 07/10/2014 23:26:44
Finally, I installed XtraFinder and am still not able to see the contents of the EHD, but when I installed OmniDiskSweeper I can navigate the EHD folder tree with no problems and can see the contents of the EHD, but when I try and open up a file it opens Finder which loads and loads and nothing happens.

Apple Support was quite helpful, but in the end I will wait to do a clean install of OS X Yosemite which is due in the Fall and not try and fix OS X 10.9.4 Mavericks.
It turns out that I run backups on my '/Users/john/Library' and the size of this folder before the 10.9.4 update was 1.07 GB and after the update it is 806.9 MB which is baffling, but in the end all of these problems should be resolved with a clean install of OS X Yosemite.
One lesson learned for the future is that I will wait on installing an update until it has been in the wild for awhile as a quick OS X Mavericks Finder Problem search and similar searches show there could be an issue.

Here's a short tutorial video about how to move back and forth between your base computer and the on-the-go machine.  Very important info about which things can be copied within Finder and which things MUST be copied from within FCP X.  Best wishes.

iPhoto opens but then the spinning rainbow wheel appears and I can't do anything. I have opend iPhoto with the Option key pressed and rebuilt the library and it still happens.  I want to at least access my photos and copy them to an external drive. Anyone have ideas on how to get to them?

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • I'm not able to edit text in Numbers from my iPad.

I'm not abl to edit text in Numbers from my iPad.  The files were originally created on the iPad and for years have worked effortlessly between my Macbook, iPhone and iPad.  After the last update in Numbers (Can't remmember if it was on the Macbook or iPad) I've had this issue.  Any solutions please?!

for years have worked effortlessly between my Macbook, iPhone and iPad.
You were lucky!  I had frequent syncing troubles with the old Numbers.  The new Numbers syncs well.
Are you are running the latest version everywhere?
    Numbers on iPad: 2.0.1
    Numbers on Mac: 3.0.1
    iOS: 7.0.4
If you're still having trouble, try creating new documents and copying your tables over from the old documents. There may have been a glitch somewhere when you imported the old documents into the new version.

We have iPad2 and Macbook Pro. Both are registered to iTunes acct (same email address). We want to be able to use Facetime when she goes off to college.  Any advise greatly appreciated!

On your Mac, launch FaceTime and then go to the menubar for FaceTime->Preferences.
Within Preferences for FaceTime, look for the entries under "You can be reached for calls at:" and click on "Add Another Email..."
    Add another email address.
The iPad can now be used to "call" the Mac by trying to start a FaceTime connection to the alternate email address you just entered. The Mac can be used to call the iPad by trying to start a FaceTime connection to the primary email address associated with the iPad.

I want to have different headers in Pages. I want to be able to set them and not have them be the same. For example I want ii then iii and so on...How do I do that?

    Hi BelleDesign,
"Headers" is short for "Continuing Headers."
Use a Header when you want recurring information on a series of pages in your document.
If ii, iii, etc. are page numbers, you can place them in Headers using Insert > Page Number, then formatting the page number to lower case Roman numerals.
For more on Headers and Footers, see Chapter 3, Working with document parts in the Pages '09 User Guide, available for download via the Help menu in Pages. Discussion of Headers and Footers starts on Page 54.

  • Moving my Final Cut Pro X events and projects to portable HDD, want to access them from both my iMac and MacBook Pro.

I recently moved my video files over to a portable HDD and performed a clean Lion installation on the iMac. Instead of moving my files back, I want to keep them on the portable HDD so that I can not only access them via the iMac but also on my MacBook Pro when I'm out of the house. How do I go about setting this up?

Simple as that? Thanks, guess it wasn't at complicated as I expected.

You should be able to copy the apps (and any other iTunes purchases) over to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. And as long as apps remain available in the store, and you use the same iTunes account as you originally used to purchase them, you should be able to re-download them in the future : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
If you are already on iOS 5+ on your iPad then you should be able to update the iPad directly on the iPad via Settings > General > Software Update .

You will also have to copy the iPod backup file to the new computer and then restore your iPod from backup using that backup. The file is located here:
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP,  Windows Vista and Windows 7), or iTunes may not be installed in the default location. Show hidden files and then search the hard drive for the Backup directory
You can also  make a backup on the new computer by conneting the iPod and right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecting BackUp. When you retore from backup sometime the app folder structure get messed up.
