I Want to buy an unlocked iPhone 5, how do I do that?

Step one: Wait for Apple to actually release unlocked iPhones in the U.S.
Step two: Take your credit card to your local Apple Store.

Apple Online Store sells unlocked iPhone in the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium (French, Dutch), Brazil, Canada (English, French), China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong (English, Chinese), Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland (French, German), Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and United States.
You can probably be absolutely sure any other source will be carrier locked
It also appears that only Zain offer unlocking (of all the ME carriers )  in Jordan and Bahrain
A ME iPhone 5  ( A1429 GSM )will not  work on US LTE when you return

I am residing in Doha, Qatar (Middle East) and I wanted to buy the unlock iPhone 4S but not sure if the phone will work here... please help... thanks

    It does not. It has listed :ATX Connector 24 (20+4) Pin X 1 PC, P4-12V 4 Pin X 1 PC, SATA 15 Pin X 2PC, IDE/Molex 4 Pin X 6
You need something with 2x PCI Express 6 pin connectors.
If you have enough 4 pin connectors left over after hooking up the rest of your computer this might still work though, if you use some adapters. They require two 4 pin connectors to power one 6 pin. I recommend looking inside your computer and figuring out which connectors you will need.

  • I want to buy an unlocked iPhone 5c in USA, find a no contract SIM card for USA, and also be able to use it on trips to UK, possibly changing the sim card there. What model should I get and is this possible?

I cannot use T-Mobile, no reception in my house.

    Hey samfromshrewsbury,
Thanks for the question. The following purchase page may have the information you are looking for:
iPhone 5c - Buy iPhone 5c in white, pink, yellow, blue, or green - Apple Store (U.S.)
    http://store.apple.com/us/buy-iphone/iphone5c
If you buy a SIM-free iPhone, you will need to purchase a GSM-compatible nano-SIM card separately. In the United States, you can purchase such a SIM from AT&T or T-Mobile. When you travel internationally, you can use a nano-SIM card for iPhone 5c from a local GSM carrier. The unlocked iPhone 5c model is A1532 (GSM).
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • I want to buy an unlocked iPhone 5c in America and use it in Europe. On the Apple Website it says, that you can then only use it, by using a GSM-Compatible sim. What is that?

Hello, I want to buy an iPhone 5c. Because it's cheaper in America, i'd like to buy it there, but it says it requires a GSM-compatible sim! Please tell me what that is!
    Thanks

Thanks AnaMusic! But I don't need the warranty. All I need is the phone  . But does anyone know what a GSM-Compatible s Sim is?

You: ATT, Verizon, Apple Store also have it, they called it contract free price

You: so what is the difference between this contrac free iphone and the unlocked iphone that apples going to sell on Nov?

  • Can I buy an unlocked iPhone 5, activate it in the US and then use it in Italy?

I am an italian guy studying in the states and I want to buy an unlocked iPhone 5 here in the US, but I’ll go back permanently in Italy in May.
1429 CDMA model should well with my ATT sim since it covers all GSM features, right?
Then back in Italy I just need to put in a nano sim from my italian carrier and that’s it…it should work.
Just one more question….is it better to activate the iPhone with US sim or Italian sim i have on my iPad 4?
Although I don’t have internet pack in neither of sims, thus I use WiFi to activate it, but i don’t know if it’s better to put italian sim for some reasons i don’t know…Anyway i’ll use another sim back in Italy (sim in iPad is not my “official” number, i just use it for data pack).
I hope everything is clear and easy to understand.
    Thank you!

Matter of fact i do not need LTE in US, i just need normal 3G connection, and there shouldn't be any troubles with ATT for that, right?
Correct, but AT&T will require you sign a contact for new service, whether your phone is unlocked or not. They don't do pay-as-you-go for the iPhone.
Thus 1429 CDMA won't work with LTE in Italy?
Only if roaming with Verizon, otherwise, no.

  • Hi, i wanted to know if I can buy an unlocked iphone 5 in mac stores

Hi, i wanted to know if I can buy an unlocked iphone 5 in mac stores

No one was trying to be agressive, however we were trying to get you to understand the restrictions that you would have to deal with and you were not seeming to understand that.
The purchase of iPhones outside of the country of usage is something that is done a lot, however it also generates a lot of problems, including warranty, connectivity and reduced functionality because different networks are not supported, and users attempt to use the devices on networks that are not supported. I understand the iPhones are more expensive in these countries, however local purchase is the only way to ensure compatability.

  • Hi, I am at T-mobile and I want iPhone 5, so I want to know where unlocked iPhone 5 will be ready to buy

Hi, I am at T-mobile and I want iPhone 5, so I want to know where unlocked iPhone 5 will be ready to buy

I just called At&t.  It's easy.  It will take 5-7 days after I submit my request at www.att.com/deviceunlock
It does not cost anything.  Good to know if anyone is going overseas.  Just remember it takes 5-7 days for the iphone to get unlock so allow enough time to plan.  Thank you apple club support.

  • What's the deal with buying an unlocked iPhone?

I think I'm going to buy an unlocked iPhone.
That just means I don't have to deal with any contracts, right?
So then do I just walk into a Verizon/AT&T/Sprint store and buy a SIM card?
And, essentially, if I owned SIM cards from different carriers, I could switch between them, right?

    IMPORTANT FACT
There are secretly four different types of unlocked iPhones (Apple, AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint) based on where you bought it from, depends on how it will work. Only when purchased directly from Apple will you be able to use SIM cards from the United States if you want to use a small regional carrier. Also if you got an unlocked from Radioshack or Best Buy or something, the version counts as the carrier it comes with, not Apple, so a Verizon unlocked from Best Buy is a Verizon-type unlocked iPhone.

  • HT4515 I want to buy an unlocked 4s from apple and use it permanently on a foreign CDMA cell service (IUSA Cell in Mexico).  I am getting conflicting information.  Thoughts?

I want to buy an unlocked 4s from apple and use it permanently on a foreign CDMA cell service (IUSA Cell in Mexico).  I am getting conflicting information on whether this is possible.  Apple website says the phones are unlocked for GSM use only.
I called apple when i bought an Ipad to help decide on a GSM vs CDMA version and was told that if I went to Mexico with a CDMA version of the Ipad (2) that i would call the carrier give them some numbers and they would activate it.  When i returned I was to call Verizon and reactivate it in the US.  I ultimately got the GSM version so i never tested the theory.
I am now thinking of getting the 4S to use in Mexico permanently but want to use it on a CDMA carrier because it is half the cost per month.  But will this work?  Thoughts?

There is no such thing as an unlocked CDMA iPhone. All CDMA iPhones are carrier locked and the carriers do not allow unlocking. All legitimatly unlocked iPhones are GSM only The CDMA side is completely disabled in them.
You can only use a CDMA iPhone if the carrier you want to use offers one.

  • HT201328 Can I buy and unlocked iPhone 5?

I have searched the Apple site for the buy an unlocked iPhone like that was there before the 5 was released and it is not there anymore. I want to buy my iPhone 5 unlocked so I can go prepaid so I am not over paying for a contract. I am in the military and I was able to get a iPhone 4s unlocked in the middle east in Bahrain, now that the 5 has come out I am going to be going back to the U.S. before they get them. I love having an unlocked iPhone but I want the 5 and all of the U.S. carriers want you to buy it locked with a two year contract then they will unlock it. That ***** because I would rather just pay full price and save the money I would waste on a two year plan. I feel like I am being contolled by the U.S. carriers, because they are forcing us to get a plan.

You'll have to wait for it to become available unlocked in the US. If history is an indicator, it will probably be announced anywhere from a few weeks to a month from now. Carrier demand has to be met first.
AT&T has a policy of unlocking iPhones for service members being deployed now, so it may not be as big a concern to you as it would have been previously to purchase a locked phone.
