It appears that you are debating between the 13" version of each.  Until you hold them side by side, it's surprising how much lighter the 13" Air is compared to the Pro.  You also get a significantly higher resolution display on the Air which is not available on the 13" MacBook Pro.  You get slightly more processing power with the faster CPU on the Pro although the processor in the Air would give it a good run for the money.  The Air, overall, will feel faster due to its SSD (you can always add an SSD to the Pro at a later time if you wish bringing up the performance to match the Air).  Of course the downside is that you have less internal storage on the Air.  The maximum amount of RAM you can get with an Air is 4GB.  While you are looking at a 4GB version of the Pro, you do have the option to up that to 8GB or more if you wish).  Of course, you get an optical drive with the Pro which is not an option for the Air.  I don't really consider the processor differences between the two models you're looking at to be significant, but you may have a need for those few extra MHz.
If you were debating between an Air and a 15/17" Pro, then there would be a lot more to take into consideration.

  • Hi, Does anyone know if the Ipad 2 has hand writing recognition? I want to buy one for an aged parent who does not type. Thanks

Hi, Does anyone know if the Ipad 2 has hand writing recognition? I want to buy one for an aged parent who does not type. Thanks

There are apps that will do handwriting recognition, such as Writepad HD. However, I suspec that such an app would be even more of a challenge to an older person than trying to use a keyboard.

  • Does anyone know if Apple are planning on releasing a new version of the iPad in 2013? I want to buy one, but would rather wait to get the latest one if they are planning on a release of a newer version later this year.

BEFORE JUST REJECTING MY QUERY, AS A POTENTIALLY NEW CUSTOMER I WOULD APPRECIATE SOME FORM OF AN ANSWER!!
I want to buy an iPad (my first one), but would rather wait a couple of months to get the latest one if they are planning on a release of a newer version later this year. I certainly cannot afford to buy one now and then update when a newer model comes out, especially if it's released only a couple of months from now.

The latest one came out just 4 months ago. Doubt one is coming out soon.
There are always going to be people who are one day out of their return period when a new device comes out, and that's just that. No one can predict. And we are all just users here who would have no idea. But I would get an iPad now given the last one came out four months ago.

  • Want to buy one but I have a few questions.

    Hi,
I want to buy an iPod Touch for my son and I noticed that Apple was selling refurbished iPod Touches. I think the 32gb (1st gen)one is going for $319. I just wanted to know what condition the iPod would be in if I did purchase it. Is the screen scratched? body dented/scratched? or is it all replaced to make it desirable?
Also, is there a big difference between the 1st gen and the 2nd gen that would make it less desirable? or are both models good?
Thanks. I'm not good with electronics. It took me around 20 min to find out how to post a question. So any help would be great.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Correct; but the 1st Gen has WiFi and an accelerometer too. The differences are:
    Nike+ transceiver
    Physical Volume Controls
    Speaker
Headphone socket supports Apple In-Ear 'phones with Microphone
    2nd Gen can't use a Firewire charger.
I've had two refurb iPods (although my touch was new) and there is no discernible difference.
    Best regards

  • HT1899 Where can I buy one of these discs?

I need to know where I can buy one of the windows 7 ultimate discs for lion, I live in Sydney Australia if that helps.

There is no special disc for Windows on a Mac, just buy a normal copy of Windows Ultimate, buy the 64 bit version.

  • Want to buy one

Im looking at buying an Iphone. I am wondering how i go about doing that if I already have my sim card from my blackberry?
I looked on apple, and ATT site, and they say I need a new 2 year activation agreement, which is fine, but i want to keep my current sim card.

You can NOT keep your old SIM if you want to transfer the same phone number.
You will get a new SIM in your iPhone that you will activate. Your old SIM in your BB will automatically become deactivated during the initial iPhone activation process.
Once your iPhone is activated - you can bring it in to ATT and they will remove the SIMs from both phones and can copy over your contacts and information from your old SIM to your iPhone SIM, but your old BB sim will not work.
Note that the iPHone data plan is not consistent with the BB plan -- you won't be able to use your data on your BB with the new plan you are on from the iPHone. You will still be able to use your phone and text messages, but not your eMail nor Internet on the BB....which sort of makes keeping the BB redundant.
Some people have stated that they have been able to keep two data plans on their SIM card but pay for BOTH of them (the BB plan and the iPhone plan).
If you CALL att support, they will automatically tell you no-can-do. If you go into your local ATT store, they can sometimes do some creative data management for you.

  • Is there anyway I can buy one of these?

    Model: Ec19C07u | SKU: 2209137

    Model: C655-S5128 | SKU: 1974715
Thanks for your help : )

Either you can buy it online (obvious) or you can go to your nearest best buy and ask them to check RSS to see who has it.
If nobody is selling it then just buy it online and get it shipped to the store of your choice to get picked up.
I asked you how you're doing today sir, "No I don't need any help" isn't a proper response.

  • Want to buy MacBook Pro 13" (new Mac-user). Worried about the Core 2 Duo

I'm really eager to buy a MacBook Pro 13" right now, but core 2 duo feels pretty outdated, I remember my computer from 2006 having that CPU.
My greatest worry is that the computer will feel out-dated pretty fast, like for how many years will it be able to survive OS-updates? I really want to buy one now, but I don't know if i should wait. Do any of you mac-users feel it to be sluggish in any way?
    Appreciate your help.

i don't have a lot of experience with this as we just made the switch about a month ago. it's mostly my wife's macbook pro and i wanted her to get a toshiba with i5 processor but she wanted to get the mac. i found this on cnet, which made me feel better about the core2. remember it is running apple stuff which isn't a drain on it like microsoft stuff:
The speed-bumped Core 2 Duo processor at the heart of the MacBook Pro isn't part of the 2010 Core i3, i5 and i7 processor family--it's a holdover from last year, and that's a bit of a shame. However, most mainstream users will find perfectly adequate performance in these Core 2 Duos--multitasking, video editing/playback, and photo and graphics work can all be handled, sometimes surprisingly well. *In our benchmarks, the 2010 MacBook Pro 13-inch outperformed the Core i3 Asus U30Jc and came close to the souped-up Core i5 Sony Vaio Z116GX/S. Against those laptops, it actually came out on top in multitasking by a decent margin, although some of the programs we use for our benchmark tests, such as iTunes and Photoshop, are very Mac-friendly.* The 15-inch Core i7 Spring 2010 MacBook Pro still outperforms this 13-incher by a considerable margin, but it also costs $1,000 more in the configuration we tested.

  • Anyone using one of these SSD?

looking at buying one of these bad boyz to run my OSX with Logic and PTLE on my MAC PRO 3.2 8 core.  I have a UAD solo and an additional FW card as well and a SATA card running 4 external HD with Port Multiplier.  My concern is that this may kill my PCI BUS.  Any advise before I buy this thing?
    Thanks in advance.

Well, duh,I should have just looked at your sig japamac! I forgot you were running one of these, nice to know its reliable.Good to know it will keep up with my current computer as well. Thanks BDAqua as I actually wanted to know if it would at least be better than the dual 800 I didnt get.Dont mind spending the cash, just dont want it to get out of hand if its just a small increase in performance. This will be paired with a 9800pro and sata Hitachi 1TB upgrades,so this shouldnt be a slowpoke with Leopard. And of course I maxed the ram out.Again thanks for the info(and FAST!!)!

  • I have an old ethernet CAT5 cable. I see they sell ethernet cables in the store.  Will one of these cables they sell in the Apple Store give me  a better connection, especially since my ethernet cable is pretty much destroyed.

Is the CAT6 ethernet cable they sell good for the regular MBP to ethernet outlet or is buying this a waste of money?  My ethernet CAT5 is really old, broken, and I can't beleive anything can move by the twists and knots it has in the cable. would it be better to purchase one of these tht I see in the store?

I have a ethernet cable that is at least 10 years old, and I use it all the time.  Nevertheless, if you want to buy one, just order the cheapest one you can find.  I don't think the Apple Store sells ethernet cables that are somehow better than any other ones.
Of course, they make the best smartphone out there!

  • HT4059 How do I get started on downloading a book on my iPad? Kindle edition? . I don't want to buy a book just pay for rental?

How do I get started on downloading a kindle book on my iPad? I don't want to buy one.

Ask your local library if they offer electronic books for checkout and if so what system they use. Then you can look to see if there is an app for that system available for iOS devices. As RG said, neither Apple nor Amazon offer electronic books on a rental basis other than Amazon's Kindle textbook rental.
    Regards.

  • What to buy one need help

I want to buy one but my brother just got one and he cant use gps or safari web browser or anything that needs wifi and that is a big reason why I want one. he got it brand new and just synced some music on it what does he have to do to use the browser and gps? and is there only certain places it will work? or do you have to download something first? he doesnt have a computer at home so he was going to use that for the internet. can someone please help me I want to buy but If I only get to use the browser in certain shops or airports and cant use it just anywhere then I dont think it is worth it so can you tell me how to work the browser and youtube and if it cost anything.

    1. iPod touches can use Calendar, Contacts, Clock, Calculator, Settings, Music, Notes, Videos, and Photos WITHOUT any wireless connection.
    2. iPod touches need to have a wireless connection for Safari, YouTube, Mail, iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store, Maps, Weather, and Stocks.
    3. If you go to a place (like some hotels, Starbucks, etc.) that have a wireless connection, you may or may not have to pay. It depends on the wireless provider. Some public wireless networks you have to set up an account to access wireless.
    4. You cannot access any of the applications listed in 2 without a wireless network. This means if you are not at a location with wireless set up, you cannot access any of the applications in 2.
    5. If you are in a place outside a wireless network, you can't access any of those applications. (If you don't have a wireless network set up @ home, you can't access the internet)
    6. All the applications (including YouTube) are FREE, unless you buy a song on iTunes. Looking @ the top 10s or anything does not cost any money.
    7. There is nothing that you can (legally) download to access wi-fi anywhere your iPod touch is.

  • Should I wait to buy an iPhone or buy one now?

First off, I know for a fact that I am going to get an iPhone, but I just can't decide if I want to buy one now or wait for iPhone 2.0. The main reason for my hesitancy is the lack of 3G. All of iPhone's other missing features don't really concern me because they can be fixed through software updates. If Apple is going to release a 3G iPhone within the next 6 months or so then I might want to wait, but if it's going to be a year or more, then I'll probably just buy one now and suck it up with EDGE. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas to when Apple might be planning to release a 3G iPhone? Any ideas that would help me make this decision would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Maybe you should get yer wife a V2 and keep the V1.
Are you saying he should get a new wife just to upgrade his iPhone? Or get a new wife for his existing wife? Depending on how much he likes his current wife, it may be simpler (and cheaper, frankly), simply to upgrade the phone and not the wife.

  • New Member wanting to buy but needs some info..

Hello all, I am new to this forum.
I have found this forum in the search of information regarding these Wind Top pc's.
Information is fairly thin on the net so I thought it best to join this forum and ask my questions here where I am sure I will get acurate answers.
I have searched the threads here in but still need some clarification.
    My scenario is as follows:
I want to use one of these AIO's mainly as a music and music video jukebox.
Tv tuner, either built in or usb external would be good also.
Sound output is to a set of active Audioengine A5 2.0 speakers.
Ive been checking out a few other  brands like:
Asus, Shuttle, HP, Lenovo and Gateway, though I like the look of the MSI ones the best.
16 inch is realistically too small, 20 inch is just about right and 22 inch upwards may be a little big and probably a little to much like a fully fledged pc, which may be a little much for what I need?
It will be placed in my Kitchen/Dining/Sitting room. Size is 8m x 6m.
I dont really want to spend a fortune, maybe below a $1000 if possibe but definately not to much above $1000. I am in Australia, Tasmania actually and viewing/demoing is fairly non existant.
The MSI 2020 or 2220 etc is probably at the top of my list.
It looks similar to a large picture/photo frame as apposed to a fully fledged computer.
I have attached my Audioengine A5's to my dell 15" laptop, T6400 or 2.0 gig core 2 cpu, 3 gig ram and Radeon HD4570 gfx.
Installed 80 gig of music and when starting/browsing windows media center for music, it does OK but I can see its not as quick as I would like it to be.
Therefore what worries me is trying to work out how one of these lower specked MSI wind top touchscreens will perform.
Can anyone please share their thoughts or experience especially regarding the browsing and playing of a music mp3 collection of reasonable size eg 80 gig etc.
    Thanks in advance

It's probably a good idea to check out reviews as that will give a good idea of whether it meets your needs. I don't own a Wind Top so can't comment on what it's like to use.
MSI Wind Top AE2220 review: http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/review/1594404/msi-wind-top-ae2220
You'll obviously want better performance than your laptop, which would rule out the Wind Top AE2020, since that has an Pentium T4500 Dual-Core processor, which is slower than the Core 2 Duo T6400. The Wind Top AE2220 would be the better choice of the two since it can come with the Core 2 Duo T6600 processor.

  • Dont want to buy the shuffle yet..

Hi, I really want to purchase the Ipod shuffle 1GB BUT i dont want to buy one and then see a new model come out a week later or see the price drop the next day! I currently have a 3G ipod 20GB and I have enjoyed it but Im giving it away to my sister since I want something smaller and better for workouts and I dont care about the display too much. I never look at it anyway. Any advice on whether I should wait or not? Anybody know anything about a new one coming out?? Thanks a lot!

I agree with the others, get Apple's sportcase or Otterboxes Shuffle case (both $30).
Otterboxes is submersible, nice if you can find a pair of waterproof headphones for swimming, but it is a little bulkier than Apple's and not quite as elegant looking.
