Just bought one, works fine, even entered the hardware serial number to find out what coverage is available for it and its covered until September 2008, and thinking to apply for AppleCare Protection Plan. I don't claim that everything on ebay is fine, there are a lot of fakes and such a puchase is for experiensed ebay users ONLY.
But it can be unlocked and until they set it free, there will be thousants sold like mine. I wouldn't wait for some months to buy it from the well known phone resailer in Greece, who could give me no support at all, with a closed contract with a provider for I don't know how many years and pay double as much as it really costs.

When you get to the States, if you will be in an area with an Apple store for a couple days, call and ask about reserving an unlocked iPhone, it takes a couple days to get it in the store from what I understand.
The current MBP 15" models are 2.2 and 2.4 GHz i7 machines. There is a 17" with 2.5 GHz i7.
The difference, in addition to the slightly faster cpu, is:
2.2 GHz - Radeon HD 6750 M with 512 MB VRAM
2.4 GHz - Radeon HD 6770 M with 1 GB VRAM
Both have the same hard drive, 750 GB 5400 rpm, both have the same primary graphics - Intel 3000.
So the difference is in the discrete grapics processor, important for heavy video work, heavy gaming...but will drain the battery a lot faster.

Thank You !Well mate, this is a bit complicated here in North America (being from Europe myself): in the USA you can as of now only purchase phones locked to the three major carriers and they only support the "local" LTE bands. In Canada (where I live) on the other hand, you can purchase unlocked iPhones (if available!) from any Apple Store. However they also only support the North American LTE frequencies, while in Europe they are slightly different. This is the reason, why Apple sells three different iPhone 5: http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2012/09/iphone5-lte-model/.
So to prevent hassle, I would strongly recommend to purchase the iPhone 5 in Europe.

I tried upgrading to leopard, even bought the software and brought it home but it wouldn't let me. So i went back to apple, gave them the specifications of the machine and been told my machine is simply too old for leopard. This is incredible to me because it really isn't THAT old (i think just a little over 6 years maybe) and yet i'm left out on the curb when it comes to using newer apple products. I understand technology moves on but the mindset that i am supposed to dump a perfectly working machine after a couple of years or face not being able to use any other apple product is counter to what thought apple was about. -

You will have to contact that carrier to see if they offer unlocking

Click on the Buy link where you can change from Full Version to Upgrade. You can upgrade from Photoshop CS5 or Extended and it is only available as a download.
