I want to change my alias

I've had this account for several years -- not sure how many.
When I set it up, I unwittingly made my alias my actual name. Probably not such a good idea in today's creepy world.
It looks like I can't change my alias. I thought about closing the account and starting a new one. But I can't find a "close my account" option either.
Please advise,
Tim

Hi Tim!
Here is the detailed info, pertaining to your present account.
Although you can't change the Alias of the account you are using, you can create a new Discussions Account, with an Alias that you prefer.
You cannot delete your present account. Just stop using it, after you have created a new one.
You can use all of the same info in the new account, Email address, User name, etc, just be sure to insert a new Alias of your choosing.
But your Level(1), Points70), Total Posts(162), Total Posts Online(127) and Registered Date(7/20/04), will not be transferred.
In the new account, your Post Counts, Points, & Level Status will all start at 0. Your Registered Date will be the date you create the new account.
Your old account, with your previous counts & level, will still be viewable, under the old Alias.
After you quit using the old account, those posts, will be archived. What that means is, that if there are no additional responses in the Threads they reside in, the Topics will get continually pushed down on the Topics list. After a certain amount of time, maybe 2 to 6 months, the Threads will be locked, so no responses can be entered. But the Threads will not disappear.
Threads in heavily trafficked Forums, may be archived more rapidly than those in areas, with less activity.
The Topics that you started using the old account, will show your Old Alias, in the Author field of a main forum page, but eventually, readers will have to keep going to the succeeding pages to view them.
If someone were to do a Discussions Search, using these parameters:
Restrict by Category or Forum: All Categories
Restrict by Date Range: All
Restrict by Username: Your Old Alias
all of your posts, created since about 11/13/05, would be found.
To create a new account,
Log out of Discussions. You also may have to delete the Apple Cookies in your browser preferences, but I'm not sure this is necessary. Then follow either of these instructions.
-How Do I Create My Account?
If you haven't signed up for an Apple ID for the Apple Store or AppleCare Support website (or forgot your old one), you can create a new account on the My Info webpage. Just click the "create one" link on the right side of the My Info page. Choose your country location and preferred language from the appropriate pop-up menus, then click Create Account. In the resulting page, enter a unique name (such as your email address) in the Apple ID field and fill in your other relevant information accordingly (fields marked with * are required). Click Continue to complete the process.
-To register, click Login in the sidebar on the right side of the Discussions page. In the resulting page, click the "create one" link at the bottom of the page, then click "create one" in the subsequent page and follow the instructions to create an Apple ID. For more information, see the Apple ID FAQ page.
Those instructions, and more info, can also be viewed by clicking on ?Help & Terms of Use, in the right column of Discussions pages.
But I agree with Hawaiian_Starman, as your name is not that uncommon.

  • Help! I want to change my Alias

I want to change my alias, which is currently my real name. But this crazy system lets me change my "real name", but not my alias! My Apple ID is used for iTunes store, Apple online store, MobileMe etc. It's not really practical for me to use a different ID to make a new alias.
Now that my password is changing unexpectedly, I'm getting paranoid; I REALLY want to change it!
So what are you supposed to do when you want to change your alias?

    Hi Philip!
Although as roam posted, the Alias of the account you are using, cannot be changed, you can create a new Discussions Account, with an Alias that you prefer, to be used for  Discussions.

    Hi Rahul,
I thought that they explain that at the very end of that document? You want users to be able to use the /irj/portal url right?
Maybe I am not understanding you correctly.

  • Want to change my alias for discussion posts...

    Hi Apple Help....
Could someone tell me how to change my alias name? And if it's not possible, then should I be creating another AppleID account?
    Please advise. Many thanks.

You can't change your alias name for discussions.
If you change you create a new AppleID account your Registered on date will no longer be 12/10/04. You will lose that and have a new date like 4/8/2006. I would keep the old date and live with the account name. But that is my two cents.

  • I registered the wrong information for my iCloud account--I misspelled and now want to change it.  Help is needed to delete the account and start anew.

I registered the the wrong information for my iCloud account--I misspelled the account name.  I accidentally spelled blackberry instead of blackbird.  How can I change this?

If you don't want to use an alias you'll have to create a new account as you cannot change the @icloud.com address once created.  You'll have to create a new ID, verify the ID, then use the ID to create the new account, and migrate your iCloud data to the new account.
If you are currently syncing data with iCloud, begin by saving any photo stream photos to your camera roll as mentioned above.  If you are syncing Notes with iCloud, you'll also need to open each of them and email them to yourself so they can be recreated in the new account.  Finally, if you are syncing any iWork documents with iCloud, turn off iCloud syncing in your iWork app settings.
Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, and choose Keep on My iPhone when prompted.  Then in Settings>iCloud tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom, set up your new ID, verify the email address you use to create it by responding to Apple's verification email, then sign in with the new ID to create your new account.  Turn on your iCloud sync settings and choose Merge when prompted to upload your data to the new account.  When you turn Mail to On you will be prompted to create your new @icloud.com email address.  Be carefull to type it correctly as it cannot later be changed.

You can create an alias @icloud.com email address within your current account that will receive email in your current iCloud inbox (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mm6b1a490a).  (@me.com addresses are no longer available as new addresses.)  Just be aware that you cannot use an alias address later to create a new iCloud account or move it to a different account.
Also, even if you created a new iCloud account with a new ID, your existing purchases would not be lost.  They are permanently tied to the original ID you used to purchase them.  You can also continue to use the existing ID for the iTunes store; it does not need to be the same as the ID you use for iCloud.

  • Originals and Modified files suddenly changed to alias

I've just been doing business as usual. Last thing I did was import several photos last week. Today, I open up the library and find that the original files have all been magically changed to alias. I could work with them up to a point, could even open them in an external editor. But as I worked, I lost even that. I find that this corruption has moved back several events - but not through the whole library. I need to know why this is happening, and if there is some way to re-designate these as original files. The data is there - or was five minutes ago. My back-up, so responsibly done last week, is corrupted too, now. I can see the thumbnails, and as I said, could actually work with the data. For a while. This is really stupid. Why would the files suddenly be alias files? iPHoto 8 7.5.1

Ah. This explains everything. I cleaned out the downloads folders last week - gone, gone - so the alias points nowhere. And the pref you sent me to? The box was unchecked. Why, I couldn't tell you - I'm the only one who uses this machine, and I certainly didn't do it. But that's happened once in a while, a program suddenly deciding to revert to or change a pref without human help. Or I'm stupid, and did it in my sleep. But that should take care of it. I am sighing. Even if I could get my time machine to boot, it wouldn't help.
Such a simple answer. I want to compliment you, but don't know what to say. You know your business. And now I feel deeply foolish. I'll try importing again and see if it doesn't work now. Which it should. Will you accept a quick kiss on the cheek from an old lady?

  • How do I change my Alias in the Discussions

How do I change my Alias in the Discussions
Sorry fo the off topic. Thanks if anyone can help.
    Brian

You know I was only asking a question and venting my frustration. Thanks for the derogatory remark though... shheesh. Nice! Don't cha think when I signed up for the account when I was a newbie if I thought my full name was going to be used I would have picked something else? DUH. Now that I've posted a few items and see how it works and I want to change it but can't I find it very frustrating and the whole thing is less than user friendly. People come to these discussions for help not to be called names, but hey, thanks. Obviously things posted in discussion forums show up in search engines... point was I don't need my full name there. Typically if you delete an account, the postings remain, but the user information is "x"d out or deleted. My question was answered and I appreciate the responses of those who replied with useful remarks.

want to change the email address I used to setup Icloud initiatally.  Can I do that? If I change apple ID do I lose all information in Icloud now?

You can change the login ID address, provided that it is not an @icloud.com, @me.com or @mac.com address. You will need to sign out on all your computers/devices and sign back in again with the new ID.
However, once you have created an iCloud account and chosen an @icloud.com address to go with it you can't change the address (short of creating an entirely new account).
All is not lost, though. You can add up to three 'email aliases' - these are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the same inbox as the main account. (In fact it's a good idea to give out alias addresses, rather than the main address, because if they attract spam you can easily change them.) (New aliases can only be @icloud.com ones; @me.com addresses cannot now be created.)
You should be aware before you start that once you've created an alias you cannot turn that address into a full iCloud account, move it to another account, or reactivate it if you delete it.

  • Change iCloud alias to main e-mail and main e-mail to an alias

Is it possible to change and iCloud alias to your 'main' e-mailaddress and move your current 'main e-mailaddress' to the alias? PS: this is not Apple ID related.
As an example I have 1 main e-mail address chosen when I setup iCloud, but I would like to use one of my 2 aliasses as 'main e-mail' and move the originally chosen e-mail address to the alias position.
    Thank you.

    Julian,
I've got a .me account, which is also now an iCloud account (I have two of these).
I've created three iCloud aliases for this account, and I now want to change one of them.
I can change the alias Full Name, but, although I can select the Alias Address, I can't change it.
Any ideas how to do this would be helpful.
    Regards

  • Getting divorced want to change name on accounts, email, etc

Getting divorced and want to change my name to reflect my maiden name on my apple ID, email address, iCloud, etc. Currently my Apple ID and email is [email protected]; want to change it to [email protected] I understand I might need to create a new account, but having trouble finding step by step instruction to do this without loosing data, calendar, music, etc. I use iCloud heavily for syncing across multiple devices, so I am very concerned that doing this is going to mess things up. Please help. Thanks.

You are correct that to get a new iCloud email address (without creating an alias address) you will have to create a new iCloud account.
To migrate to a new account, start by saving any photo stream photos you wish to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tap the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward pointing arrow), then tap Save to Camera Roll.  If you are syncing notes with iCloud, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.  If you are syncing iWork (Pages, Numbers, Keynote) documentes with iCloud, back them up to iTunes (see https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3542).
Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud), choose Keep on My iDevice and provide the password when prompted (if using iOS 7).  Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload your data.  When you turn on Mail you will choose your new @icloud.com email address (type carefully as once created this cannot be changed).  You will then have to recreate any notes in your new account by from the emails you sent earlier.
If you have multiple devices, you will only have to migrate the data on one device.  Once the data is in your new account, on your other devices just save any photo stream photos to your camera roll, delete the account, choose Delete from My iDevice and provide the password when prompted, then sign back in with your new account ID and your data will sync to the device.
Music, apps and other media purchased from the iTunes and App Store is permanently tied to the ID used to purchase it originally and cannot be moved to a different ID.

    please inform me soon !

Is your phone still covered by warranty?  If so, go to your nearest Apple store and depending on what happened, this may or may not be covered by warranty.  If it is, then you can get a replacement exactly as the phone you already have.
If out of warranty, then there is nothing you can do and you'll have to pay.
