  • Want to change podcast artwork: not showing up in iTunes Store

Hi. I want to change the icon/artwork for my podcast.
My website (created with iWeb) = www.manleywoman.com
My podcast in iTunes Store = Manleywoman SkateCast
I use Garageband to create my podcast, then save to iWeb, then save to iTunes. So I changed the artwork on the podcast itself in Garageband. That worked fine and shows up properly on my website and on the episode for which the artwork was changed. I thought that changing the artwork on the podcast RSS page of my website would automatically change it in the iTunes Store, but so far no luck.
Can someone walk me through how to make the proper artwork show up in the iTunes Store? Right now it's just a broken link. Thanks

You can update your artwork via feedburner.
    1. Go to feedburner.com and log in to your account.
    2. Click on your feed for the show.
    3. Click on the OPTIMIZE tab at the top, then click SMARTCAST on the navigation bar to your left.
    4. Under PODCAST IMAGE LOCATION you can add the url to the image you want to use (store it in your site folder somewhere).
You can also add in keywords, and description as well.
    Hope that helps.

  • Help- Changing iweb podcasting site and adding feedburner

I set up a podcast with iweb then realized I wanted to change a few things.
    1. I want to change the website name in iweb from "Site 2" to "Awake Podcast"
When I do this it changes the feed, and I can't access the old feed.
    2. I wanted to change the feed to feedburner so I can track the podcast.
How do I do this? What order? Which feed to I adjust? What code do I need to add?
I'm new at this. Any help would be appreciated.
    Justin

In order to change iTunes to a different feed (and as you've found changing the site name in iWeb changes the feed URL by changing its name) you have to add a special tag to the feed:
    <itunes:new-feed-url>URL OF YOUR NEW FEED</itunes:new-feed-url>
This can't be done within iWeb which doesn't allow you to tamper with the feed. Download the existing feed from the server, Open it in TextEdit *IN PLAIN TEXT MODE* not Rich Text. Add the tag just below the 'channel' tag near the top of the feed (on a new line). The URL must be full and include the http://
Upload the feed manually to the server, replacing the existing feed.
Now change the name of the podcast site in iWeb and do a complete republish. Make sure that it hasn't over-written or removed the modified feed: you may need to upload it again, and you may need to recreate the folder it was originally in. Wait for iTunes to recognize the new feed - it shouldn't take long.
If you want to involve Feedburner you will have to submit the new version of the feed to Feedburner. Mke sure Feedburner have uploaded their version of the feed. Then you will have to download the new iWeb feed and modify it by adding the tag with the Feedburner URL. Once you have done this *DO NOT* do anything in iWeb until you are sure that iTunes has transferred to the Feedburner feed. Then you can add new episodes in the usual way.

  • I WANT to shuffle my podcasts

    Hi,
Sometimes I want to listen to only music on iTunes of my iPod - I have lots of playlists that make this easy - so that I can listen to music that fits my mood or a certain genre - iTunes makes this so easy - no problem.
Sometimes I only want to listen to podcasts - again iTunes makes this extremely easy.
Sometimes I want to listen to both music and podcasts, and I want them to play in random order, so that I will never know what is coming up next. I have created a great smart playlist which combines the most recently added, yet to be played podcasts with some of my favorite music. My intention is to have my own itunes "radio" station that continuously serves up great music and talk. iTunes makes this very difficult, because Podcasts are set to skip when shuffle by default, which means I have to individually change that setting on every new podcast that iTunes downloads in order for them to play when shuffling.
Does anyone out there know of a way around this?
    Thanks.

    This script -> http://www.dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=setselectedtracksshuffle
Will turn On or Off the Skip when shuffling box.

  • Any danger changing a podcast name?

Hi, I want to be sure that changing my podcast' name in the xml will not affect the old subscribers (Will they still recieve the new episodes automatically?)
Or is there any other problems that can be due to a podcast name change?
    Thanks, Jean.

Not as long as you don't change the name of the feed file (and hence the URL) - be careful because I suspect that one or two programs or services derive the feed filename from the title.

  • Changing the Podcast website

    Hello,
I need some help with my podcast. I have a blog and I use it as a Podcast Website (<link> tag on the XML) but I have changed to another blog (from Blogger to Wordpress) and I want to change that <link> information. Can you help me with this two questions?
    1. iTunes did not recognize the new URL and it keeps the old one even when I updated the XML on my server. Why do you think this happens?
    2. I would like to know, should I change the <link> information foreach <item> of the XML?
    Thank you.

The 'link' tag in the top section of the feed is what you should - and I gather you have - changed. The Store won't show the change immediately: it caches feeds and visits them periodically to check for updates. It may change this in a couple of days or so, or it may not do so until you upload a new episode - it depends on whether it recognizes the feed as having changed.
'link' tags within 'item' tags are not read by iTunes and are irrelevant.

  • Want to change artwork; How?

I have just rebranded my site and want to change the artwork for my podcast. I changed the files that iTunes references, but it looks like they have created their own. Is there a way to change the artwork?

The 'Podcast Image', which appears on the Store page, is referenced in the 'itunes:image' tag in the top section of the feed (before the first 'item' tag) and takes the form
<itunes:image href="URL OF AN IMAGE FOR THE PODCAST" />
If you are editing the feed by hand you can change this; you should give your new image a different name to the current one. Expect the Store to take several days to update it.
If you are using a program or service to create your feed you will need to amend the image by whatever method they provide for it. If you can provide an image with a different filename (rather than having to submit an image and allow them to name it) it's best to do so.
Note that we are talking about the image on the Store page here. The images seen by subscribers are a quite separate matter and are not referenced in the feed but embedded in the media files. Should you wish to pursue this point this page explains things:

  • Can I change my podcast from "video" to "audio only"?

I submitted my podcast and never got an email, but it must have gotten accepted because I can find it when I search for it: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/soul-deep-radio/id493618518
Now that I am "in" what can I do to change my podcast from video to audio?  I have 3 files in my feed that are marked as video but are actually audio files.  Because of that my feed has a black background and I would rather audio feed for cosmetic reasons, and because I don't want to mislead people into thinking that there are going to be videos when there won't be.
Also,  I wanted to change my feed to a feedburner version of the same one, but I was going to wait until I heard that my podcast was officially approved before doing so.
    Thanks

For reference, your feed is at
    http://www.souldeepradio.net/feed/podcast/
Three of your episodes are .mp4 - the 'enclosure' tag looks like this:
    <enclosure url="http://www.souldeepradio.net/Mixes/thebooksof_.m4a.mp4" length="152342025" type="video/mp4" />
You will note that not only is the file a video formate (even though in fact it may only carry audio) and the 'type' is video. This is why your podcast has the black background: you should replace these three episodes with .mp3 versions and amend the feed accordingly - try not to change the 'guid' tags or existing subscribers will find themselves downloading the new version.
The method for moving iTunes to a different podcast feed URL is detailed here:

  • How can I change my podcast details?

Hi, I have a podcast in the store in my own name. I want to keep the podcast but make it anonymous. Is that possible? Thanks, anon

Your name is carried in the 'itunes:author' tag in the feed - as you presumably aren't handwriting the feed you will need to look in whatever program or online service for wherever you entered your name. If you simply remove it, it will show as 'Unknown' in the Store - it would be neater to think of a nom-de-plume (or indeed a nom-de-podcast).
Once changed, simply re-upload the feed. It will take the Store a couple of days to catch up - possibly it may not do so until you post a new episodes as it won't see the feed as having changed until then.

  • Changing a podcast

I'm new to podcasting. I uploaded a podcast to the iTunes site, but I want to change an incorrect photo that appears with the audio track. How do I edit my broadcast that is already up and running on iTunes?
Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

If you want to change the picture in the audio file (I assume you mean the "artwork" area when it plays in iTunes) then you'd just change the artwork and reupload. Get info on the original audio file, add the new graphic in the Artwork tab and remove the old one.
When you reupload the file, the people who download after that will get the new artwork. There's nothing that can be done for those who have already downloaded the audio file though.

  • Help! How can I change our podcast description?

    Hi,
    First, here's our podcast:
    http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=302322449
The description I want to change isn't the one that comes with each episode (iTunes is picking up those descriptions fine) but the one that you see on our podcast page in iTunes. It's the one we entered when we first submitted the podcast, and the confirmation e-mail from Apple has no instructions on how to change it.
That description isn't entered either in our blog / podcast feed or in Feedburner (which we use to update iTunes).
Any help is much appreciated in advance!
    LZ

Yeah, so, um, I think it helps if you actually look through Feedburner a bit more...
It was in the iTunes settings in Feedburner and is now fixed.
    Thanks for looking, though
