I want to change the volume with the FN key but...

I was trying to do that by pressing the FN key and the number 3 and 4 to adjust the volume but it doesn't do anything. I'm using a Satellite C675. Also this laptop emanates an unpleasant toxic-like odor. I was using a Samsung laptop $380 before returning it to try this one. Also aren't the keys kind of hard to press on this laptop? I heard that if you buy the different computer parts yourselves and then call a computer technician they can do it for about $10 in Korea. Is that the case in the US as well? I live in the US.

What's the full model number? There should be a label on the bottom.

Like I read in many other posts I'm starting to have Wi-Fi trouble.
Known networks that were no problem recognizing and connecting to automatically with IOS 7.0.2. and downwards are starting to have trouble. Network not found or when found a connection is not made automatically.
Also then trying to connect manually is a problem, as the network jiggers / flickers between the upper Wi-Fi connection field and the field 'known networks'....
So I point near the network with my finger I want to connect to al the time....
Normally this kind of thing is funny and I can laugh about it.
But now I wish I could downgrade to IOS 7.0.2...

I have no sound on my ipad. unless its plugged into my haier external home dock/speaker. I can adjust the volume with the buttons when its plugged in. not when its not plugged in. I play music thru the dock, immediately when I take it off my sound shuts.

I have the BOSE Companion 5 speakers and have had the same problem. I've searched everywhere and gotten nowhere. My speakers are way past their warranty, so calling Bose would probably get me no where either. Only thing I can think of is that the speakers overheat which causes the spikes in the volume. I've tried unplugging them for a few minutes and then plug them back on. The problem does go away, but after about 5 minutes, same problem.

Have you ever even used skype on an iphone or ipod? We tried it and there is no way to type to each other while you are video chatting. You can do the typing during the video on a COMPUTER, but not on an iphone or ipod.

So in the last few days I’ve noticed that pressing my volume change keys actually isn’t changing the volume on my macbook pro at all. When I press the volume up or down keys, it makes the recognisable pop sound but stays at the same volume while the squares go up or down. I mute it but my computer still makes sound. It’s the same with the volume control up the top of the screen, too. I slide it up and down and it doesn’t change the volume at all. The only way I can change the volume is with my speakers or the program I’m in (iTunes, VLC etc). I restarted and it seems to be okay then I go to change it a couple minutes later and it’s back to not working again.
I’ve checked my settings- the “use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard fuction keys” is not switched on, and I have tried a suggestion of moving the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file out of the library and onto the desktop and restarting and neither of those seem to make any difference whatsoever. I’ve tried to find online forums but the only suggestions I found were those two and they didn’t work.
I’m just annoyed because I usually have the worst luck with technology but my macbook had been going strong and I got it because of the apparent lack of things that could go wrong, but of course even if there is one thing that could go wrong it will happen to me.

If the old ID is yours, and if it is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

If you still have access to your old email address, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your iCloud ID. The volume on the second half of my Quicktime slideshow fades out--and I don't want it to do that!

I used FotoMagico 4.0 to make a slideshow. There are options for exporting, and I chose the one called Custom, which makes a Quicktime movie. For some reason the volume in the second half of the show starts to fade out, and by the end I can barely hear anything. If I export to their Standalone Player, which allows the slideshow to play on a Mac computer, everything works just fine. I'm at my wits end trying to figure out how to fix this. I want to be able to export the slideshow to Vimeo so that people on Macs and Pc's can both watch it, but I can't do it with the volume the way it is.

Go to System Preferences. Then under the General tab, there is a tick box saying "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps." Un tick that box. Once you start and quit Safari again, it will go back to your home page.

Depending on exactly what you want to do, there are a couple of ways of handling this. You may want to access teh user guide for some ideas: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/ipad_user_guide.pdf
In particular, check the sections on Customizing iPad and Settings > Restrictions.

Changing tab focus with the keyboard

I've read about changing the tab focus from one page to another programmatically; however, I would like to have shortcut keys to change tabs (like many programs that use CTRL+Tab to change windows within the program).
I could use an event structure to capture keyboard button presses and then change the value of the tab control, but is there a more straightforward approach?

You can set all other controls not to be tabbed through and the tab control to have its pages tabbed through. That way, when you use tab, only the tab control's pages will be on the tabbing list. This, however, is probably less straightforward.
I'm not sure what's the problem with the method you outlined. In most cases, if you want something to happen, you will have to code it. This appeares to be one of those cases. You can make a subVI to do the tabbing for you, if you don't want to have to code all of it in your VI. Pass the reference of the tab control into the VI after you detect the event and use that to decide whether to increase or decrease the tab value. Be sure to cycle the number back to the first page when it reaches the end.

You would have to re download iBooks Author from the U.S. App Store. Launch the App Store then click the round flag icon bottom right side of the window. Select United States
The issue with this is that your billing credentials (regardless of whether or not it's a free or paid app) must be associated with the same country where you reside. So you may not be able to re download iBooks Author in English.
