I want to copy a burned DVD to my computer

I have a DVD that I want to be burned to my computer. How do I do it?

Two options:
Make a disk image of the DVD. I believe the URL David posted above has instructions how to do that. The VIDEO_TS can be accessed by mounting the image.
Or just simply copy the VIDEO_TS folder via the Finder to the HD.
DVD Player.app can then open and play the VIDEO_TS folder. I've heard that newer versions insist that the folder's name is VIDEO_TS.

What software would I need to copy and burn DVD's

Copy what kind/type of DVDs?  For non-copy protected DVDs you can use Disk Utility (in the Applications folder) to make a disk image of the DVD disk and then burn it back to a disk.

  • Burning DVD crashes the computer !!!

Firs of all I'm just a starter my problem is that when I try to burn DVD my computer crashes and some times wont even power up till ~30min !
I have tried to use different burning programs with no luck even tried to use different DVD writers also no luck I'm starting to get desperate !!!
    Can someone help ???

He meant that we want to know how many Amps your psu can provide on the +12V line(s).
This is what I found in a review on www.rbmods.com through a Google search:
I'm no PSU expert, but running a Geforce8800 GTX on a PSU with 2x12V lines with 18A on each seems like a bad idea to start with. I wouldn't be surprised if that was related to (or responsible for) your problems. A better PSU (single 12V line with 30+ Amps on it) might solve the entire problem, I think.

  • I/O error when attempting to copy previously burned DVD

Copied and successfully burned a DVD when running MacOS 10.5.? using SimplyBurns. Currently running 10.6.2. Attempted to make copy of the previous successful copy using Disk Utility New Image command (Image format: compressed, Encryption: none) Get the Creating image "xxx.dmg" message and the desktop DVD icon disappears and name of the DVD displayed in the Disk Utilities side bar grays (Am able to select the grayed name and choose the Disk Utility Mount command to remount the DVD to be copied while the image creation progress bar continues). Result is the same whether the DVD is remounted or not: "Unable to create xxx.dmg (Input/Output error)"
Get same result if I copy the contents of the DVD to the desktop and move that file to my burn folder. And then the same result if I use the disk utility SimplyBurns (version 416 (416)) 1:1 Copy procedure. The technical error message is as follows:
    Burning Failed
    "DiscOperation_ErrorKey" = "HdiUtilError_CreateFailed";
    "DiscOperation_RealTaskDurationKey" = 1564.301000118256;
    "DiscOperation_ReturnCodeKey" = 1;
Have read 302925, "iDVD: Troubleshooting issues with burning disks" and "Factors that affect writing to or reading from optical media". The Matshita UJ-846 drive has an apparently later firmware version, but I don,t know how to install it and don't know whether that will screw up communications with MacOS.

    Hi,
If you still have the original footage of the movie you could go back into iDVD and instead of "burn disc" you could "save as disc image" and burn multiple copies from it.

  • Copying and burning dvds

    hi
i am wondering how you copy dvds and then burn them.
i went on a forum and they suggested mac the ripper. It is all above board dvd's, they are training videos that i have to copy for my boss, nothing illegal.
when i used mac the ripper it put the dvd into a folder (a VIDEO_TS folder ) that i cannot open.
burning them i guess i would use idvd, as i have made dvds myself and burnt with that.
i am sorry if i sound a bit stupid but.....so be it!
so the how do i copy a dvd???
    thank you

After you get the Video TS folder on your desktop, you simply drag it to Your choice of either DSK Utility , or Toast and put in a blank DVD-R and click burn.
If you are not familiar with DVD Burning it can get confusing in a hurry at first.
To help you out a little.
Standard DVD's are 4.7 gb in size.
Most Data, and Audio is not a problem.
Most people run into there problem when trying to copy a commercially made DVD that may have 6 or 7 GB on it. Thus it will not fit on a Standard 4.7GB DVD.
Here is where you need a top of the line software to accomplish this task.
    Roxio's Toast 7, or Popcorn.
What it does is read the Video TS folders size and content and then it automatically compresses the content to fit on a 4.7 GB DVD.
All of this is done with a couple of clicks of the mouse.
Using Apple's software to copy is fine through the Disc Utility for Audio, and Data, and some Video, Take note that Apples furnished software is entry level and there are only certain things it is capable of.
    Hope this helps. Don

  • Do not want dual audio after burning dvd

I have .avi movie with two different languages and after burning are both in movie while playing. I would like to set only one language before burning it with iDVD. Thanks

    Hi
I think You support to little info.
    • .avi is no Codec but just a container - so what's in it ?
    • iDVD has just a few video codec that it accepts
    • there are no multilingual funcion in iDVD - so each language has to be it's own free movie (will take up no: x places eg three movies = three times more space needed)
So may be I'm not really understanding Your problem - so Please Re-Phrase and add more info and step by step description on how You try to do this.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Burning DVD on another computer

    Hello all...
My burner on the G5 is out. I want to burn my DVD Studio Pro file on my iBookG4, so I hooked up the firewire with my G5 as the target. I need to know how to save my DVD Studio Pro file on the G5 so I can burn it on the iBook. I know I've done this before using Disk Utility but I forgot how.
    Please help
    Thanks,
    Hagen

I too have never used Disk Utility to burn a DVD. So today I decided to give it a try.
In DVD Pro make a disk image instead of burning to a DVD.
Open Disk Utility, click on the burn icon.
Your promoted to navigate to the disk image.
Select from the new window your settings.
    Burn.
At the end of the burn the finalized process can take a few minutes.
Ah... reading the link from David's post. Now I know how to make a dup of a DVD. So, now I'm free from Toast, yes! If you have already made your DVD follow the directions in David's link.

  • Does the last updated backup in Time Machine have all my files for "standard" file copy? (i want to copy and paste files to another computer that doesn't have TM)

My personal Macbook pro died, but I did have a Time Machine backup. I have a new iMac that I would like to use as a family computer. I would like to transfer some files to the new computer (and set-up a new Time Machine backup), but archive the remainder on a non-TM drive. I was planning to:
    1. File copy my last backup folder from my old TM drive to the new computer
    2. Copy (and then delete) the files I want to archive on another HD drive
    3. Wipe clean my current TM drive
    4. Set-up TM on my new computer
Is this a good way to proceed?
Is copying the last backup folder (vs. all backup folders) enough to move my files over?
    Any better approaches appreciated!

I suggest you visit MicroCenter and go to there Apple section and ask one of there guys if they are still offering the 2 terabyte Backup For the iMac, Mine was only $100.00.
So the iMac has Time machine plus the USB 2 Terabyte Backup for less than your $130.00

  • I want to copy edited files to a second computer, do I need to export the catalog or can I just copy

I find that I edit files on my laptop but I want the files, with their edits to reside on my desktop computer also.
I had been exporting the folder as a Catalog, but can't think of shy I can't just copy the folder with both the RAW and XMP files and import the folder on the Desktop PC. This option seems to work just as well as the catalog option.
Any reason I should choose one way over the other?
    Using Lightroom 4.2
    Thanks

I'm sure this isn't a complete list, but here goes:

  • Can I just do a straight copy of a DVD I made earlier?

I made a DVD last winter of my kids' christmas concert. I imported the footage and edited in iMovie and then exported it to iDVD. It came out really nice. Burned a few copies for friends and family, moved it to my external hard drive. Well, now some more people would like it, but I can't burn any more copies of it! I do have one of the original dvds I made in December and I tried just copying the folders on that to my hard drive, then dragging those files onto a blank DVD, but that didn't work (as in, it burned the dvd but it didn't play on my tv/dvd player). Please help! I REALLY do NOT want to redo it!
ETA info on my free space (both are about 20% which should be enough)
my hard drive on my powerbook g4:
    Format: Mac OS Extrended (Journaled)
    Capacity: 55.76 gb
    Available: 21.04 gb
    Used: 34.72 gb
    my external hard drive:
    Format: Mac OS Extrended

    Available: 61.47 gb

  • Copy a burnded dvd

sorry if this is old hat for all of you, but new to me...
a client has given me what was supposed to be a vhs tape to copy...turns out its an idvd created dvd. i offered to duplicate it for him for free (it's a charitly) but now i'm not sure if i can. is there any way to just copy the dvd? i've got idvd and fcp on a g5.
    thanks in advance,
    al

Just follow the directions in: How to Copy Previously Burned DVD-R Video Discs.
If you have Toast you can also do it. That's what I use (Toast Ti 5.2.3) and it's a little easier, for me at least. Post back if you do have it and want the steps.
    Good luck.

  • Copying my finished dvd

I made an idvd for my daughters wedding. Her copy quit working so I am trying to burn her another copy from the one I made for myself. I tried to make an image of mine (so I could then burn it) but I keep getting an error –5058. I want to keep all my chapters and selection menus operating on the new copy. What is the best way to do this? I don’t know how to make her a new copy from the last one I have that is working.
I am using a new MacBook Pro – I made the originals on an iMac G4 using iMovie and iDVD. Help please.

    Peggy,
Is this what you have tried: How to copy previously-burned DVD-R video discs at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42724
If it is, and that's where you got the -5058 error, you may need to start over. I hope you have your original iMovie project saved on an external drive someplace.
