I want to create a blog(s) - don't want a..

Create one easily? I downloaded Wordpress's zip file but I'm
no SQL expert. Does anyone know where to get something that I can
do this easily? I'm pretty good at code so it doesn't need to be
blogs for dummies... but at the same time I don't want to spent
forever doing it
or can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!
R

Hi,
There is a pretty good book called "blog design solutions"
(friendsofed). Lot of information on "howto" and "where do I
find" about
wordpress, movable type, expression engine and one more if I
remember
correctly.

  • I want to create a blog on my website but don't know where to start.

My server is Lunarpages and they have Wordpress for creating a blog.
Can you direct me to simple bulleted instructions on how that might interface with using my website template that is consistent for all html pages?
I already have eBlogger.com blog but when I try to use their edit HTML feature and paste in my template code, I get an error message that the "meta" code doesn't have an end tag. They say I need to add the end tag. Here's the code they pointed to:
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type"content="text/html; charseet=iso-8859-1">
My template works fine with my website. What do you think is happening here with eBlogger? Lunarpages forum recommends I set up with Wordpress. Trying to save time here. But if WP works better overall, I'll do it.
    I basically want these things:
use my template so it's consistent with all pages.
blogg not only allows me to post but also comments and automatic archiving (i.e. past 60 day)
    Have best security for blog.
I also want to add a button that lists those social networks I post on. I am hoping it's possible to set up one blog and have what I post automatically posted on the others (i.e. Facebook, Google, eBlogger). Is that possible? An example of a link Lunarpages has:
    http://www.addthis.com/pages/toolbar-landing?utm_source=hm&utm_medium=link&utm_content=ATI EToolDL_orig&utm_campaign=ATCMIE_DL

WordPress is in a class of it's own.  It began it's open source life as a blogging system but it has evolved into a powerful, feature-rich CMS (content management system).  In short, if you elect to use WordPress on your domain, you might just as well use it for your entire web site.
To work with WordPress, you will need a firm understanding of HTML, CSS and how PHP includes work.
WP requires you to set-up a dynamic work environment (see links below)
Find a WP Theme you like that won't require much customizing on your part.

  • Want to create private blogs / diaries for clients

Hi all - I am looking for the fastest, most effective way to create private blog (diary) areas for my site's readers.
In the distant past, I handcrafted an extensive diary and note system, but today, there are two problems. The first is that compared to what is offered today, it looks like an antique, and two, I want to minimize stress for the people who run CF and SQL servers and make sure I create the most secure system possible.
I want people to create an account that includes a private "note/blog" area. Their entries can be seen sequentially by, at least, date. It would be nice to search the entries by key words, however, I'm OK with keeping things simple.
I wouldn't mind using something like a very stripped down CMS like, for example, WordPress. The issue is that I anticipate making thousands of diaries. So I'm more concerned with the CMS than WordPress itself and all of its themes.
I am aware of FCKeditor and fooled around a bit with it 10 years ago. Possibly that is all I need to concentrate on. If you recommend that, do you know of a CF group/people who are expert in it? I have the skill to craft my own and currently, no budget for outside programmers (wish this was not true), but would consider buying a module including an enrollment system already done except for final hookups.
Last, I'm aware of forum creation services. I use WebsiteToolbox for one of my sites, for example. Does anyone know of any service that could create multiple "personal" topic streams?
    Hopefully, Karen

There are a couple of existing open-source CF-based CMS systems that are frequently used for blogs: Mura CMS and ContentBox. Might be worth looking into.

  • How can I create a blog?

How can I create a blog?

If you just want a blog on its own and you don't want a website, then go and use one of the free blogging systems out there such as Blogger or WordPress.com and there are others.  If you already have a webhosting account that you can install CMS's on, then consider installed WordPress.org and using that instead.

  • How do I create a blog?

How do I create a blog?

If you have never used iWeb, then don't.  This software is now unsupported and not sold and has not been supported for the last 2 years.
If you want to create a blog, then perhaps  consider using WordPress.  You can use WordPress.org and you can install WordPress on your host if you have hosting already, or if you don't then you can use WordPress.com instead.  This is free and is then published to the WordPress servers.
If you are starting from scratch, then don't use iWeb - it really is not worth it.
    Try WordPress for starters.

  • Creating a Blog Site

How do I create my own personal blog site?
I looked into getting a .mac account and then saw that Apple wanted OVER $100 for it! Screw that! Why does Apple charge an arm and leg for EVERYTHING!?!? Many of these things can be done FOR FREE if using
    browsers other than Safari.
Why are they always sooo over-the-top? I guess that's just a retorical question.
Does anyone know of an easy way to create a blog site that is compatible with Safari? Love to have .Mac account but I just can't justify $100.
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

iWeb (part of iLife 06) will create blogs that can be hosted on any web server (i.e. the free web space you get with your ISP.)Admittedly readers can't post comments unless you've got a .mac account by default but there is a work around in the form of iComment.
I don't think Apple is being 'over-the-top' is always /ever true
Check out this price comparision between a Dell and Mac Pro workstations.
BTW you can also find the .mac account for a lot less than the RRP if you shop around (it's a cardboard box with an activation code in it):
    Amazon ($79).
    eBay ($59).
    kind regards

  • Links in blog summary don't work

    Hi,
Ever since I upgraded to iLife '08 any links that I post in my blog page don't work in the summary (or RSS feed). For some reason when iWeb creates the summary it changes the links. For instance a web gallery link may end in gallery#10005 and the summary link changes it to something like gallery%2516278 and as a result .Mac gives you a "can't find your page" page.
This very frustrating as there seems to be no way to fix the links in the summary (as it is created automatically). Does anyone else have this problem or know what might be going on here?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did it happen only on those three entries or was it happening with new posts as well? (I had a harddrive failure and had to rebuild the site a while back so I think I have recreated the blog in iWeb '08.)
The fact that this is happening in my new posts is baffling.

  • About creating a blog

I am very interested in creating a blog website. From what I
have read it is nescessary to use the php format, someone correct
me on this if I am wrong. In the tutorial sections on the adobe
website one of the first steps mentioned is setting up the server
environment. Now have another website using flash and html that I
was going to purchase hosting space online in order to get them up
on the net. the question is: can I host a blog website in that way
or must the server be set up on my computer. I guess I'm kind of
confused and need some direction on this, someone PLEASE set me in
    the right direction.

Are you planning on creating your own blog code or using
    blogging software?
If you dont't want a unique name and are OK with not being
    able to add
advertizing to the site you can use www.wordpress.com you
    will be able to
set up a blog for FREE and it will have the URL something
    like this
www.yourblogname.wordpress.com But you can not add adsense or
    any other
    advertizing
    another option
Use Blogger - again your URL will be someing like
www.yourblogname.blogspot.com - but with blogger you can add
    advertising
    such as adsene etc..
If you want a unique website name then obtain the domain name
    and then set
up a hosting account with a webhosting company and then set
    up the blogging
software with this webhost. Some hosts already have blogging
    software
    installed.
You can use wordpress from www.wordpress.org - this version
    allows
advertizing (note you get the sofware from the .org site and
    it is fee)
There are other blogging software out there as well.
If you want total freedom, set up the blog with a webhost
    (just like you
    would with any site)

  • Cannot prevent authenticated users from creating a blog on "My Page"

I have a brand new Snow Leopard (10.6.1) 2.26 Ghz quad core Xserve with 12Gb RAM that will be used for web collaboration services. I've currently set up Wiki and Blog services with a group membership to allow creating wikis/blogs. The reason for this is for staff development purposes with the plan to add people into the group as they are trained. The process to set it all up was very simple, however, I'm having an issue preventing authenticated users from creating a personal blog. Although I can prevent the creation of wiki's to members of a group easily, any authenticated user on the server can log into "My Page" and will be able to create a blog. I've gone to server admin>choose the server>choose the "access" icon and set the column "for selected services below" (blog) to "allow only users and groups below" (the group) and it still doesn't prevent them from making a blog page. In WGM for the group on the "Basic" tab, the "enable the following services for this group" has only the choice of "none" and therefore since the site isn't showing as a choice, the Wiki, Blog, Calendar and Mailing List is grayed out. I've seen another thread that states in 10.6 that option for setting the service acl in the group settings of WGM is unavailable. Does anyone know a fix for my problem of security access for a "My Page" blog or is it a possible bug in Snow Leopard? Right now my only workaround is to remove the users access and enable it as they are trained. This isn't an ideal fix, however, because we have some users who want to limit their wiki or blog to authenticated users only, not public access. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Ran into this same issue.... Talked with a field engineer who confirmed the behavior. The question now is this a defect or "feature that does not work as as the audience desires". As I far can tell, the security setting for blogs in server admin does nothing at all. This has the potential to cause a few issues as you cannot limit who can have a blog.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that would prevent all users from creating personal blogs. I was hoping to be able to have a group of users that can create a personal blog outside of the blog attached to a wiki.

  • Create a blog

How would I create a blog? Do I need to download a program or
    is it all in Dreamweaver?
    Thanks in advance,
    M

ThemeDreamer isn't a blog. It is just a design utility inside
Dreamweaver used to edit the "Theme" files that make up a blogs
design or ‘look and feel’. You use your WordPress blog
like any other WordPress blog. You can’t tell if a WordPress
site was built using ThemeDreamer because its just a utility to
help edit theme files more easily. Here's the break down:
WordPress is a content management system (program) you run on
a webserver, it makes a 'website' with which you can interact with
to create posts or diary entries and web pages through a
special/hidden administration page. All the public viewable pages
inherit a 'theme', a common look and feel consisting of a header,
    footer, menu, sidebar, etc.
Dreamweaver is a design tool to create 'web pages' (not
necessarily websites). A typical web page designer usually designs
a good looking HTML page using Dreamweaver (what its good at) and
then passes it off to a software engineer that hacks it to pieces
to make it interactive. If you want to change the design, its
usually too late or you have to revert back the original HTML and
    start over.
ThemeDreamer is a utility you use inside of Dreamweaver to
visually edit the header, footer, sidebar, etc. directly. These
files dictate a WordPress site’s look and feel without having
to resort back to the original HTML files. Just do a google search
on WordPress theme files and you can find thousands of beautiful
templates that you can download and use for free. ThemeDreamer just
enables you to open up the thousands of free theme files so that
you can more easily customize them in Dreamweaver by seeing them
    visually in Design View.

  • Create two Blogs in one web site

I am planing to have two blogs in my website, because one is for me and another one for my baby.
But, when I create two blogs in iWeb and use comment function in both blog, the first one will fail to link.
If I close the comment function in second blog, the first one become normal.
Did any one use iWeb in the same way with me but without this problem?
    Thanks a lot!

I don't do blogs (or Windows ) but have you tried creating a separate site and just link the two with text based links. Each would be separate and might do the trick.

  • Can Someone Please Help Me Create a Blog Reader App For My Blog?

Hi ! I am trying to create a blog reader app by using RSS feed for my blog. I found this tutorial on MSDN here Create a Blog Reader using C# and XAML
But the problem is, it says some parts will not work with VS 2013. I even tried to follow each step of the tutorial but get stuck with some "navigation parameter" type-casted to a class. I couldn't understand what do I replace that with as it was

  • Can I create multiple blogs?

    Hi All,
We want to use Blogs in a school setting and would like our students to be able to create a blog for each of their subjects (if required). Any ideas about a way to go about this? We are running SL Server.
    Cheers,

    Hi,
We have Blogs, Wikis and Cal installed and running. As it is, my students can create a single blog, eg Humanities which is all well and good, but I would like them to be able to create one for the classes that they have eg. Maths, English, History, Science and so on.
Anyone know how I can go about this?
    Cheers,

  • Creating a blog in flash

I am trying to create a blog in flash. I am trying to figure
out where to start. I think that what I need to do is convert the
text to xml and then php to a mysql database and then back the same
way to post it. Is there a way to use loadvars to do that or should
I use the xml connector component?

You can also use something like Blogger and simply make your
Flash page import the template. There's one tutorial on this sort
    of thing
    HERE.
Here are a few Flash sites I've done using Blogger as a
    "back-end".
    http://www.nysbroadcasters.org
    http://www.msu-rentals.com
    http://www.hickokssteakhouse.com
    And of course our site...
    http://www.parkeastinc.com
So yes, it's doable, just have to learn to import the stuff
in. One way I'd suggest doing that is with
    Dynamic
    Text Feeder from Flashloaded.com
