I want to cry - I cannot load Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 on my new Imac.

I have tried three times without success.
I did trial the Microsoft Office for a month and the instructions were to remove all components of the previously loaded 30-day free trial program prior to installing the purchased software. I think I have done this but I am not sure. I wanted to phone and speak with someone but there is no phone number I can call.
Where are they all? Who can I speak with?
Frustated granny.

Did the MS Office free trial have an option to uninstall? Some software comes with an uninstall option, even though in Macs usually just dragging the application in question to the Trash is sufficient.
Where did you obtain the free trial version from to begin with? Although it sounds counterintuitive, "sometimes" after a user "partially" uninstalls a program manually, they may have to reinstall it (in your case "it" would be the free trial version) and then choose the uninstall option.
I'm just throwing this out there. I've had no recent experience with the free trial version of MS Office.

Steve M.

  • Is OSX lion compatible with microsoft office for mac 2008

Can anybody out there please give me a definitive answer to this question: Is OSX Lion compatible with Microsoft Office for Mac 2008? The technical support people of both Apple and Microsoft could not provide me wth a useful answer to a question that must interest hundreds of thousands of people, if not millions. I don't want to download the new OS and then encounter nasty problems.

Yes. The only problem you could face, is if you want to reinstall MS Office 2008 on Lion - this is not possible, because the installer runs on Rosetta, which is no longer supported in Lion. But if you already have Office installed, there should be absolutely no problems.

  • Excel - microsoft office for Mac 2008

Can someone tell me how to delete empty text boxes from an excel spreadsheet (microsoft office for mac 2008).  I must be overlooking something.  Thank you for your reply.

Hmmmm...I'm guessing somebody else has run into this...is there a better place for me to post my question in the forum?  Or does everybody in the forum see the question regardless of the catagory it is posted under?  I wasn't sure which catagory it should go under.

  • How to help my friend install Microsoft Office for Mac 2008

Hello, I have a friend in North Carolina whose mom recently got a MacBook Pro running OS X Mountian Lion (10.8), he will be coming on to join this discussion after I post it. He needs Microsoft Office for his mom and I just happened to have purchase 3 licenses (two of which I have already utilized). While talking to him over a Facetime call, I walked him through the steps of getting the free office for mac 2008 package from download.com (which seemed kind of sketchy). While the download actually looked legitimate, we ran the installer and it gave some kind of weird error message that said something like "Could not be installed onto Macintosh HD because the Mac OS X is not on that parition" (I'm paraphrasing my friend will contribute the actual message). Could someone please walk us through an easier (and preferably more secure) process? We just need to get to the point where I can give him my last license key. Thanks!

You will have to check with Microsoft but I think what you are doing is illegal. The 3 license pack I think means 1 user 3 computers, not 2 users 3 computers.
You might have better luck posting on the Office for Mac forum. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac?auth=1

  • Will Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 work on my iMac with Mountain Lion OS?

Help!  I have downloaded Mountain Lion (10.8.4) on my iMac. Now I can't open or use files that contained labels I made with Microsoft Office for Mac 2004 because Mountain Lion does not support Power PC and Microsoft Excel.  If I purchase and download Office for Mac 2011, will it allow me to continue using these label files?  If not, how can I get a database for my iMac that will enable me to create labels and catalogues?

Thanks, Niel.  I'm glad to know purchasing the Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 will enable me to retrieve and use my "ancient" database label files.  I did try to get OpenOffice, but my computer says "'OpenOffice' can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer" and my "security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers."  How can I do this?  I really don't know about the inner workings of my computer!

  • Having trouble getting Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 to run.

I recently upgraded my iMac to ML, but since then I've had difficulty getting the app to run.  It would give me an error message and an error log.  Then I created a new user profile to see if it'll run there (under system prefs, then under users & groups).  Well, it did run.  It opened just fine under the new user profile.  So it can't be a problem with the new OS.  So what is it with my primary user profile?  What is keeping Office from running in one user profile and not another?

I am assuming that you are attempting to download a copy of Microsoft Office directly from the Microsoft Store ... correct? If so, you cannot use the product key from the CD as this key is specifically used for the software on that CD. You would need to acquire a new product key as you would need to purchase another copy of Office for your MacBook Air.
The Mac version can be found here.

  • Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 crashes

I have recently upgraded (probably the wrong term) to Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac. Since then I have been running into stability problems. Excel just closes intermittently and my work is lost unless I have just saved. I use Excel a lot because Numbers doesn't have certain abilities I need. I did not have a problem with Excel in the previous version even on Leopard.
Now when I work with print layout and prefilling cells, the system is exceptionally vulnerable.
I've checked to make sure I have the most current versions of everything.
Is anyone else having this problem? Does anybody have any solutions for me?
Right now I have two files I can not print because each time I go to print excel crashes. I just tried 6 times before writing this post.
    Help, please.

Mac 2008 has many great features that I wish I could use. But when I try to use them, the entire suite crashes. Microsoft Word crashes if I cut and paste between different versions of the same document. You cannot cut and paste between 97-2003 and 2008 documents without a crash at some point. Trying to make brochures or any special projects are next to impossible. Cutting and paste within the document lends to a crash. Today I was reorganizing the layout on our company newsletter..3 crashes in 5 minutes just from moving objects. 2008 is the least stable product from Microsoft to date. I see updates for my 2004, but they are very slow issuing updates to 2008. My recommendation: don't buy 2008 until 2009.
I have 4 gigabytes of RAM and a nearly empty hard drive. Even after I close out all my programs and run Mac 2008 I get insufficient memory comments. I can edit a DVD and run a number of programs simultaneously without seeing much of a slow down. But Office doesn't just slow down, it crashes.
So anyone considering an upgrade..wait till guinea pigs like me have identified all the bugs. I use the office suite for 4-6 hours a day for work. And I do get around to using the majority of its more common features. But if 2008 does not improve soon, I am going back to my XP version that I am running on VMWare.

  • Maverick updated and now i cannot open microsoft office for mac

Has anyone come across this too?
It says "Excel cannot open this work book"  and "the file name or file path contains an invalid character, for example  " / "
Same thing for word and although not tried it, powerpoint too
    Any ideas?

You will need to uninstall Office 2011 and reinstall it.
You must remove it correctly, here are the instructions.

  • Problems with Microsoft Office for Mac 2008

    Hi,
I replaced my old mac around two months ago so I now own a Macbook Pro with Lion. Since then, whenever I open Microsoft Word, or a previously saved document, it also opens other documents I've saved since I bought the laptop. However, this does not include the documents I managed to retrieve from my previous Mac.
Is anyone aware of a way to prevent this happening?
    Thank you

I'm sorry, but I have the same problem and neither the article indicated or using First Aid on the keychains have fixed it - problems occurred after installing Office 2008. What else can I try?
    Regards
    mjf

  • Can I have separate pages (using Microsoft word for mac 2011) utilizing a new iMac and a second monitor?

Hardware - new iMac 21.7, Software Mirosoft word for Mac 2011.
I presently adjust the text to allow two pages on my iMac monitor.
If I add a second monitor can I have two different pages on it so I can
see four consecutive pages (e.g. pages 31 and 32 on the iMac and pages
33 and 34 on the second monitor)?  I am sure I can move items like
pictures from one monitor to the other, but will the word processing
software indicated above work like I would like it to?

why would one of the pages be split?
Because you'd stretch the Word window across both displays and the screen bezels would be larger than the page split. The page spacer in Word is much smaller than any bezel I've seen, so the two bezels would cause it to break up a page somewhere.

I did the same with Adobe Lightroom (bought the french version...) and it displays in english with no problems or issues...

Thanks in advance for your help !

To get your files remove the hard drive from the dead computer and put it into an external enclosure, connect to either the firewire or usb port of your mac depending on which enclosure you buy and get your files. The dead motherboard should have no ill effect on your files as long as the hard drive still works.
A good source for enclosures is

Arabic Writing Problems with All Applications of Microsoft Office for Mac 2008
Characters are not aligned property to compose the Arabic Words
MS Word for Mac does not yet support Arabic (or various other scripts). You should let MS know that you want that.
I have had reports, however, that PowerPoint and Entourage in MS Office 2008 will do correct Arabic. Could you confirm that for me?
For Arabic the best Mac word processor is Mellel. Others are TextEdit, Nisus Writer, iText Pro, NeoOffice, OpenOffice, StarOffice.

  • I just bought a macbook pro and am ready to order Microsoft Office for Mac. I use Windows 2007 at work and want to be sure I am able to work with files from that system. Do I need to buy 2 different editions of Microsoft Office to be able to do this?

Do I need to buy 2 different Microsoft Office products if I want to be able to use my new Mac with Microsoft Office for Mac and also use files saved on my work computer which uses Microsoft Window 2007?

Sorry, but your likely going to have to use Windows 7 and Office on your Mac at work using Bootcamp.
Although you can share files OfficeMac and Office on Windows, the formatting will be off because two platforms use different installed fonts and formatting. This will cause a productivity lost and require extra editing at work
If you could share just PDF's then your fine, but that will unlikely be the case.
So to share files seamlessly your going to have to install Windows 7 (another $300) full version, 64 bit, using Apple's Bootcamp.
    https://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
It's ok, though, you can boot into OS X to use that online and surfing etc at home. It's the internet and sharing of files from other Windows users that cause Windows to hoze up, so mimimalize both of those and you should be fine.
You can also run Windows 7 in a virtual machine software like Parallels or VMFusion. as long as you don't have any super demanding needs of the hardware, like running 3D games or super intense CPU actions like video processing. Office work is just fine and it's safer than Bootcamp, as in a virtual machine you can keep "snapshots" of previous states of the OS, and revert back to in case something goes wrong in mere seconds.
A real good piece of news though, Windows 8 is so radically changed from Windows 7, that your workplace will remain with Windows 7 as long as possible to put off all the retraining necessary with that new OS version.
So think of the $300 + $60 investment in Windows on your Mac as a longterm thing.
